"‘Research suggests vegetarian food can be really orgasmic’ reads one of the many posters in this hodge-podge Indian restaurant on Islington's Chapel Market. The walls look like the bedroom of a gourd-obsessed teenager, plastered in pro-vegetarian mantras, the benefits of diet, and icons of the scene like Paul McCartney and Plato. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch On any evening there are plenty of fans in the sprawling room too. Indian Veg’s £9.95 all-you-can-eat buffet is hard to resist in terms of price, but it’s decent in flavour too. A creamy, coconut-laced pea and paneer curry goes down well, and the vegetarian biryani has some hum to it. It’s all very mild, but follow the lead of any number of BYOBing students or old yogi heads in here, and attack the salad bar. There are some lively combinations, like a zingy grated cabbage and beetroot number, that will have you returning for a second plate. It's worth mentioning that Indian Veg gives away food to the homeless every day, too." - Jake Missing

"The appeal of Indian Veg is simple: all-you-can-eat buffet at an amazingly low price. Get the ace onion bhajis as soon as possible after they come out of the kitchen and bring a couple of beers—there’s no alcohol licence. Prepare yourself for some pretty intense anti-meat propaganda on the walls (‘Cancer danger in your fry-up!’) and a carb-heavy Indian meal. " - jake missing

"Indian Veg is the all-you-can-eat-buffet that you’ve always dreamed of: freshly made, tasty, with an unlimited supply of onion bhajis. It’s one of Islington’s best spots for a very tasty and very good-value Indian meal, with as much or as little booze as you like. The room is pretty basic and it isn’t enormous, so it’s best for ones or twos." - Jake Oliver, Sinead Cranna

I may struggle to put into words how utterly great this place is. The food is fresh, delicious, simple but full of flavour. It’s such great value for money, I may never be hungry again. And it’s BYOB with no corkage fee. The decor is outstanding. Do you like signs? This is the place for you. So much to READ! It really adds to the general wholesome energy of the place. We spoke to the man who owned it, and he said he’s been working there with the chef for over 40 years. He spoke so passionately about keeping the prices affordable for everyone to have a warm meal. They continue to provide free meals for people without housing. More of this kind of place. No, it’s not fancy or impressive. But it’s glorious. If i could give it 6 stars I would.

I first visited this restaurant in 2004 when the buffet was only £2. I was visiting London for the first time and I instantly decided I wanted to fill up on Indian Veg almost every day I was in town exploring the city. Cheap, healthy, flavorful food and friendly staff. 20 years later nothing has changed but the price. But that's just due to inflation. For a simple menu of all-you-can-eat Indian stews and quirky decor, £10 is still a good deal.

For 9.95 you can eat as much as you like. and bring your own drinks. the quality isn't super high but it's good. I like the lentil Dahl soup, it's well spiced albeit watery. There are a variety of vegetable Currys, mostly potato and lentil mixes. You grab a plate and can refill as much as you please so there isn't much service, however the staff is willing to help if asked.

Great buffet selection of vegetarian dishes bursting with flavour and quality. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The owner is a humble and kind human being who gives free food to the homeless. Recommend supporting this business which has been a staple in chapel market for years.

This is a 6 out of 5 stars kind of place. The food is brilliant - simple, wholesome and very tasty. It felt like a real treat whilst doing me some good! Equally wonderful was the atmosphere, so relaxed and cheerful, really lovely staff and a great vibe from all the customers too. People clearly enjoy being here as much as I have. Zero bells and whistles on anything surplus to requirements, all the effort clearly goes into exactly the right things to make for a wonderful dining experience - at an unbelievably low price of £9.95 for a high quality all you can eat, nourishing buffet. I cannot recommend this place enough, congratulations to those running this amazing restaurant!

I'm told this place is seen as a pillar of the local community, and rightly so. Fantastic food, served simply and directly in a characterful environment. Nothing pretentious or artificial here, a truly authentic dining experience. For a cheap price too. Strong reccomend for both locals and tourists.

I can’t sing the praises of this place high enough. Great filling food for £9.95 in London is crazy to me! As a vegetarian for six years, it’s been hard to find restaurants that serve a range of food I can eat but this has ticked every box for me. Staff are really kind and attentive too, they’ve fostered a great environment.
