This is the first ice cream shop in America to make soft serve with milk from Hokkaido. Love the light texture and how it doesn't feel like a heavy dessert! FOOD 4/5 Swirl Milk and Seasonal w/black sesame & yuzu sugar was amazing! PARKING 4/5 Parking structure CUSTOMER SERVICE 4/5 Standard attentive service, no issues. Ambience was clean.

Got Food?

Google
Definitely very hyped up through social media LOL! Soooo here is the deal, is the ice cream bad.. no, but is it the best thing I’ve ever had… also no 😹. I go the traditional milk with sesame sauce and mochi balls… $9 🫠. I’ll definitely go back again but I don’t see it being something I go every weekend.

Google
Hokkaido ice cream came to our neighborhood! Their soft serve is so tasty. The milk taste creamy and pure. I love the freshly made black waffle cone. The only issue is the price of the topping seems high.

Google
Yup, can validate the other reviews saying that this place is a bit overhyped. Obviously that shouldn’t be a knock on the place itself because they can’t control that, but just don’t have super high expectations that this ice cream is mind blowing. I got the Hokkaido ice cream with the mochi, brown sugar, and I forgot the last topping. The ice cream itself is nice and creamy, with a subtle milk flavor. A great sweet treat after dinner!

Google
Tasty soft serve that is smooth and not too sweet (like in Japan). Got the matcha toppings with warabi mochi. The matcha syrup had a good mild sweetness. Mochi felt fresh and complimented well. It wasn't busy at 4 pm on Wednesday. Good afternoon treat in sunny LA.

Google
I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now, so I'm happy that one opened in Sawtelle! The flavors of the matcha wasn't that strong, which is a bit disappointing, but maybe it would be different if I chose all matcha instead of a swirl.

Google
Mmm, I just love Hokkaido milk! If you've been to Japan, you know what I'm talking about! It is definitely not your run-of-the-mill American milk. The proof is in the taste, and Indigo Cow delivers with its Hokkaido milk soft serve. It's a different kind of gentle sweetness, but without the typical preservatives + whatever else is normally found in our pasteurized milk. Add the black bean and yuzu for an elevated taste to boot!

Google
Indigo Cow Sawtelle is a solid spot for a unique soft serve. The milk flavor was good—creamy and well-balanced—and the matcha was okay, though not as standout as I’d hoped. Overall, it feels a bit hyped for what it offers, the lines here can get very long and the day I went the machine broke for a few minutes slowing it down. The location is definitely a plus, nestled among other great spots in Sawtelle, so it’s easy to pair with nearby shops or eateries. It’s a nice stop if you’re in the area, but not a destination I’d go out of my way for.

Yelp
The Hokkaido milk is very tasty. The milk fragrance is strong. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. When I came, there was no line. I wish they have more flavors. I would go back here again. I just saw creme brûlée hidden displaying only on the wall.
google avatar

Yelp
The guy at the counter was so remarkably rude I almost started laughing. I asked about the flavors and he looked at me as if I was mentally inept. Wild how little time it took to get such a bad impression across.

Yelp
Indigo Cow opened recently, and I was interested in giving it a try. Touted as the first Hokkaido soft serve creamery in the country, I was curious in how it was, as I'd never had Hokkaido milk/ice cream before. We went after lunch in the area, and there was a small line out the door. However, the line went fairly quickly, and we got our soft serve quickly. I opted for a small Hokkaido milk soft serve with Matcha-centric (matcha syrup, powder, and warabimochi) while my partner got the small swirl (Hokkaido milk and matcha soft serve) with Belgian Chocolate Wall (and added black sesame syrup). There are no seats inside and only one bench outside; we stood outside the shop to enjoy: I enjoyed mine, as it was nice and matcha-forward-- the warabimochi tasted soft and fresh, too. My partner's was black sesame-forward, very nutty and the texture from the hardened chocolate was lovely. However, the soft serve, while cold and smooth, was a bit on the watery side and melted fairly fast. I'm picky about my soft serve/ice cream, as I like a thick, creamy, and rich texture. Overall, Indigo Cow is still a solid place for some tasty treats. A bit on the expensive side, but that's what you get for quality Hokkaido milk!

Yelp
MUST TRY! Big fan of hokkaido icecream and this is the perfect treat. Ordered a small in a cup with hokkaido milk icecream topped with matcha & warabimochi for ~$8. Not overly sweet, mochi add-on was worth it, and soft serve is smooth n creamy.

Yelp
This place recently opened up a few months ago. They're known to be the first shop in America that sells soft serve with Hokkaido milk. If you've never had it before then it is worth a try at least once. It has a very unique taste and is extra creamy. Some would describe it as a hit or miss but I enjoy it. We came on a Tuesday afternoon so there wasn't anyone there. So the ambiance was very peaceful. I learned from speaking with the worker there that if you come while everyone is at work or school, then there usually isn't a wait. But if you come during any other time, there tends to be a line out the door. I ended up getting the brulee softserve which is exactly as you'd expect. Soft serve with that signature torched sugar on top. It was good and pretty simple. We also got their Hokkaido milk with M.B.R. It had mochi in it and it was pretty good too. Overall this was a nice snack. Nothing mind blowing but still very enjoyable. I wouldn't mind coming back :)

Yelp
I ordered the Hokkaido milk and matcha swirl on a cone. While it's a bit pricey for the portion size, the soft serve was creamy, light, and full of flavor. The swirl tasted like a matcha latte, which I really enjoyed. However, the cone didn't stand out and tasted pretty standard. The service is fast. There is no seating inside the store.

Yelp
Indigo Cow. Swirl. Cup or Cone. Thank me later. Ice cream fanatic? Nope, not me. I'm not into ice cream, but wow was this ice cream SMOOOOTH. If you told me the cows were pampered, potentially eating (and living) a better lifestyle than me, I'd believe you. Were they even lotion'd up with silky smooth skin each evening? Because the ice cream here was SMOOOOTH, reminding me of a mix of quality froyo and one of my favorite (though expensive) Chinese yogurts. Overall, I was very impressed with Indigo Cow and despite its higher price point will be returning whenever my sweet tooth is activated in Sawtelle!

Yelp
5/5 for taste, quality, and value! I've been wanting to try Indigo Cow for a while and was really excited to have stumbled upon this new location in Sawtelle. I got the small Hokkaido Milk soft serve ($4.50) which was a more than satisfying portion size and so creamy and delicious. I love the slightly salty flavor of Hokkaido milk soft serve and it was done perfectly here, on par with ones I've had in Japan! The line was out the door when I visited on a Saturday evening but it was worth the wait, it did feel a bit packed and chaotic inside the shop though with all the people waiting to order and then waiting to pick up their food.

Yelp
Honestly this was disappointing. Did not really like the flavor at all. Ice cream plain just tastes like milk... not very sweet. The topping was recommended but the brown sugar syrup tasted weird and the mochi was just very squishy but no flavor or sweetness. Not work $9... Inside is cute however there's no seating. Service is friendly too.

Yelp
Wow such a unique and delicious soft serve place! I've been wanting to try this spot for a while since their milk is imported from Hokkaido, Japan. I got a regular Hokkaido milk and Matcha swirl with the matcha warabimochi. The soft serve was so creamy yet still light! Both flavors were delicious and balanced each other out. The matcha warabimochi had more of a jelly consistency to me, but I've never had it before so not sure if it usually tastes like that. But the mochi was good, and I'd get it again! The soft serve was on the pricier side, but that's expected as it's located in Sawtelle. Parking can be difficult, mainly street parking nearby. Service was quick but the workers were not too friendly, but that's okay. The shop is small inside so most people will eat outside. Would come back to try their other toppings!

Yelp
My SO really likes hokkaido milk so this is right up his alley. For me, it was good, but not amazing. We just behind another party on a Saturday around 5:30pm. Inside was quite musty and warm.. which is not ideal for a soft serve joint. Got the matcha/hokkaido milk swirl in a small cup ($5). The matcha didn't stand out to me, but the hokkaido milk was creamy and milky - what you would expect it to be. But because it was so warm inside the shop, it started melting pretty much immediately. I'll prob give it another shot when the weather's cooler. I also should've gotten the toppings as the mochi did look enticing. Pricey for toppings tho.
google avatar

Yumi L.

Yelp
Paying $12 for a soft serve was crazy to me. I had the mix soft serve which was hokkaido milk + matcha. I also paid extra for the Matcha topping so I could try the warabi mochi. I love how they used ceremonial matcha and could taste the umami notes. Line wasnt too bad on a Saturday evening. Parking is tough in sawtelle
google avatar

Jessica I.

Yelp
Got the Hokkaido milk, waffle cone, and mochi. It was very creamy, but I do think it can be pretty overpriced! On another visit, I got all three flavors, and the matcha was my favorite. The seasonal crème brûlée was not what I personally expected (less sweet), but my Japanese friend said it's because of the sweet potato and she really enjoyed it. I think I waited about 10 minutes after I ordered, so fairly quick. There is one bench outside.

Yelp
Yum! I rarely go out for ice cream but this was really good. We loved the black sesame, because it's rare to find at dessert places. Definitely recommend after lunch or dinner!

Yelp
Swung by with a friend a little before 4:30pm on a Saturday. The small parking lot nearby was a bit full but we were luckily able to find some metered street parking close by. The store was empty when we got there, so we took a couple minutes to decide what we wanted. We both ended up getting a small Hokkaido Milk in a cup with MBR (mochi + brown sugar + roasted soybean powder)! Service was super quick, and our order was ready within minutes. It felt like the ice cream started melting seconds after we got it, so make sure your camera eats asap lol. I was worried it would be too sweet with the brown sugar, but it was perfect! The brown sugar was def a necessity, and I also really enjoyed the little bit of roasted soybean powder. The texture of the mochi was super soft and chewy (delightful)!! Our only complaint was that there were icy chunks at the bottom of the cup. Overall tasty! Wouldn't be against coming back the next time I'm in the area to try one of their other menu items.
google avatar

Angelique A.

Yelp
Very light soft serve ice cream, but super tasty, subtly sweet, and good after a heavy meal. They only serve two flavors - the milk flavor that is like a light vanilla and then a matcha flavor. I got the dark chocolate shell topping that I liked, but can confess might have overshadowed the soft serve itself. The matcha mochi they use is not the mochi I'm used to, I think it's maybe made from seaweed, it's more savory than usual. No seating except for one bench outside.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
came here craving a sweet treat after dinner and was in the area! it was definitely popular with a long line coming from the small store. barely any seating (no inside, only outside with benches). parking can be difficult but there are public lots available but you may have to pay. i think the employees can be a bit friendlier, but they were definitely fast and efficient in keeping up with the orders. i ordered a small matcha/hokkaido milk swirl with mochi, brown sugar syrup, and soybean powder. it came out to be ~$8 which is kind of steepish. i can definitely taste the quality of the rich and creaminess of the ice cream. i think this overpowers the flavor of the matcha which was slightly lacking. i would def still recommend this place to others to try. i think they're still in their soft opening period so there's def room for improvement
google avatar

Yelp
Creamy Hokkaido soft serve! Located in Sawtelle, parking can be a challenge during dinner hours, but I am glad to see another dessert option in the area. Service was okay. The employees were not particularly friendly or welcoming. The Hokkaido milk flavor was creamy and milky, and I love that they offer different toppings. I ordered mine with the Matcha Centric, which came with matcha warabimochi, matcha sauce, and matcha powder. I am looking forward to switching it up and trying other combinations next time.
google avatar

Christian K.

Yelp
My friend raves about this place, saying it is one of the best vanilla soft serves that are out there and the quality is top notch. We were in the area and I wanted to see if the hype was real. I guess they import their milk From Japan and that is what makes it special. I just got the soft serve plain, and my friend got it with matcha on top. I think the soft serve was a little above average, however with the matcha on top makes it *chefs kiss*. The quality of the matcha is soooo good, and definitely recommend getting it as a topping if you're going to stop by. The guy taking our order was very nice and friendly. The inside the restaurant was super small, not much places to sit and enjoy it.
google avatar

Cassidy F.

Yelp
I have had the Echo Park location bookmarked for a really long time! I never had a chance to make it out there but it looks like they came to me instead! I came during their soft opening phase and was so impressed! I'm so happy I found this place and it opened on Sawtelle! We ordered 2 swirls, one with the matcha centric topping and the other with the black sesame and yuzu sugar. They both were so delicious. I loved both types of toppings. Definitely very unique and not something you can get anywhere! The ice cream was also perfectly creamy! The only this is the matcha definitely overpowers the milk so if you do want a strong milk ice cream, I would not suggest the swirl.
google avatar

Cece L.

Yelp
It's a small soft serve shop with no place to sit indoors, but there is one outdoor bench to sit. There was a line when I went and there looked to be 3 workers. Even with 3, they were pretty slow with getting the orders out but that could be bc they just recently opened and need time to adjust...so expect to wait once you order. The matcha tasted pretty generic, but the Hokkaido milk was tasty. The brûlée was also delicious but very sweet so if you don't have a sweet tooth then I would avoid. There's underground parking...there was a man taking $5 for 30 minute parking when I went.
google avatar

Yelp
This might be my new fav icecream spot! I believe it's where the old honeymee location in sawtelle used to be. The service is quick & fast, even though there is a line. Their menu is just the right size imo to come back to try new things & combinations but not be too overwhelmed. I got a hokkaido & matcha swirl - I really liked the hokkaido's consistency & sweetness level. I will be coming back!

Yelp
This is along Sawtelle, Japantown across the plaza from Daiso and all that. Parking is rough around here and this spot doesn't have any seating or tables but that's ok since it's made to conveniently eat on the go! We stopped by this afternoon before heading home. You walk in and smell the fresh, sweet, delicious smell of freshly made waffle cones. Although we got a cup for our Hokkaido Milk ice cream, the waffle was tempting! Of course, our ice cream came out really quickly which was fantastic. It was a little busy but no wait at all. Super good, creamy, and not overly sweet. I already want to come back for more and to try their matcha swirl along with their warabi mochi topping! Simple and easy to read menu as well. Overall a great ice cream spot and worth trying! Yelp
Delicious Hokkaido soft serve on sawtelle... run don't walk. It's delicious. The Hokkaido milk is delicious, as is the matcha. The mochi is a good add on. It's in the Olympic plaza, parking underneath.
google avatar

Yelp
Indigo Cow (already with an outpost in Echo Park) brings soft cream (soft serve ice cream) made from Hokkaido dairy to Sawtelle adding too the bustling ice cream/soft serve scene that includes 7Miles, Bacio, Wanderlust, and Brian's Shaved Ice next door. Soft opening this past week so service was getting smoothed out and there were still paint fumes but they have a select/limited menu. The soft serve is very light and delicate, yet creamy and delicious. Get it with MBR (mochi, brown sugar, roasted soy) to give it a bit more flavor and textual contrast. Pricing in line with shops in the area and there's cool wall art.
google avatar

Acira M.

Yelp
Loved the matcha soft serve with the matcha mochi and drizzle! It had a great matcha flavor, but the mochi isn't needed. When you bite into the mochi it's like eating straight matcha powder, a bit overkill. The hokkaido milk with the bruleed top also had some sort of potato filling in between the sugar and the soft serve. It was surprisingly delicious, and I can't wait for the future seasonal flavors!
google avatar

Matt T.

Yelp
This is a new spot and it is FANTASTIC. I can't wait to try this every time I'm in the area. It tastes real and it tastes like quality. Service is blindingly fast and even with a line this moves quick. Summer is here and I'm glad Indigo Cow is here too.
google avatar

S O.

Yelp
So glad that Indigo Cow opened up a location in Sawtelle! My partner and I shared a large Hokkaido milk soft serve with the MBR topping (mochi, brown sugar syrup, and roasted soybean powder). It was absolutely delicious! I loved the milky flavor complemented by the different textures of the toppings. My only complaint is that I wish they gave a bit more topping! We felt like we ran out of the brown sugar syrup pretty quickly. Would definitely come back and try the other toppings and flavors :)
google avatar

Crystal H.

Yelp
Came for their soft opening! There wasn't a line when I ordered, but once I received my order, there was a line out the door. Tried their Hokkaido milk flavor with MBR topping and the swirl with the matcha topping. The soft serve was very creamy and tasty, and went well with the peanut powder. The white mochi was pretty bland and not as soft as I would have liked. The matcha mochi was sooo good- soft and chewy. Would have preferred that mochi on the Hokkaido milk soft serve- I'd come back for that! No seats inside though, and pretty small.
google avatar

Candace C.

Yelp
I was having dinner nearby and caught the soft opening of Indigo Cow! I ordered a small Hokkaido Milk soft serve ($4.50) in a cup, with Black Sesame and Yuzu Sugar topping ($2). The portion was generous for a small. Definitely enough for a satisfying dessert after a meal. The soft serve was creamy and rich with a perfect milky flavor you'd expect from Hokkaido milk. I only added the Black Sesame and Yuzu Sugar topping because I wanted to taste the ice cream itself too. It was just enough to add a little texture and a unique flavor twist without overpowering the ice cream. My friend got the Belgian Dark Chocolate Wall topping, and she felt it overpowered the ice cream a bit. If you prefer to really taste the ice cream, I recommend going lighter on toppings. But other options looked interesting too, so I'll definitely try something different next time. There was a line out the door, but with only two employees working, they were still efficient and kept things moving quickly. I waited just a couple of minutes. There's minimal seating - just one small bench outside, so we ended up standing on the sidewalk, which is common for dessert spots in the area. Total cost including tax: $7.13. It's on the pricier side, but honestly probably on par with what ice cream shops charge these days. The quality and portion size make it worthwhile. Parking: There's an underground garage for this building - last time I parked there it was $5 on a weekday evening. There is also plenty of street parking nearby.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try the Hokkaido milk soft serve here for a while, but have heard how long the lines can be. We braved it on a weeknight around 7pm, & it was only a few people deep at the moment we arrived. Weirdly, at least 10 people arrived behind us - so I guess we just had lucky timing. We tried the plain Hokkaido milk soft serve, & the creme bruleé. I was super excited to try the creme bruleé bc I read that it is actually the classic Japanese yakiimo dessert, with sweet potato! Their version of yakiimo is a dlicious sweet potato layer, topped w/crispy bruleéd sugar, & yummy Hokkaido milk soft serve undermeath. I love the distinctively flowery-fruitiness of a roasted Japanese sweet potato, & I could very much taste it here. It was so yummy with their milky soft serve! Lots of people were getting the matcha & the chocolate topped versions, with fat mochi balls. I will definitely be back to try the matcha swirl & matcha & mochi toppings next. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jina S.

Yelp
I've only tried Hokkaido soft serve 1 other place so I was excited to stumble upon another one! Their soft serve options were between Hokkaido, matcha and swirl, so a friend and I got the swirl and the matcha mochi (it has another name...) topping. So so good!! Hokkaido milk soft serve is definitely not like vanilla, lighter and so fresh. And the mochi was a perfect chew !
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
I've loved Hokkaido milk soft cream since having it numerous times over our trips to Japan, so I was elated to finally find it in the US! Indigo Cow is an expansion from Seattle and they serve Hokkaido milk, matcha, and seasonal flavors. The milk's delicate, mild sweetness was simply delightful and I would best describe its consistency as a lightweight creamy. For reference, it's noticeably lighter than Somisomi, but not at all icy either. The matcha was nearly as derricious with a soft sweetness upfront that transitioned gradually to a pleasant earthiness towards the finish. A number of toppings can be added on as well, so we'll have to try some on our next visit!

Olivia T.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon! Service was fairly quick. I wasn't sure what to expect from Hokkaido milk, but I'd heard that Japanese milk is quite different from what we have in the U.S. I ended up getting the Hokkaido milk with MBR, served in their freshly made charcoal waffle cone. My first impression was how incredibly creamy it was--the combination with the brown sugar syrup brought the perfect level of sweetness. Surprisingly, the brown sugar syrup paired really well with the charcoal cone. It definitely exceeded my expectations of what Hokkaido milk would taste like and honestly took me by surprise--in the best way.
google avatar

Phillip T.

Yelp
Hokkaido milk soft serve! Got the swirl and cone with matcha and Hokkaido milk! The matcha was standard fare but the Hokkaido milk was very smooth and creamy! A bit simple but you can mix it up with some toppings! Paid street parking, can be busy on weekends. Inside was small and service was fast and friendly.
google avatar

Susie D.

Yelp
It was chilly and overcast, so it was the perfect day to avoid the lines and try a new ice cream spot in Sawtelle. Got a matcha/regular swirl, both light and creamy, matcha tasted like matcha but not a strong one. The mochi was super bouncy and delicious, especially the regular one, and the matcha one didn't have that overwhelming amount of powder on it. It was a bit pricey, the toppings add up fast, but glad I tried it.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
I've been in a matcha mood lately so I was happy to see that Indigo Cow has matcha soft serve! The interior is minimalist and modern - it's cool just like the ice cream. I added mochi to top my ice cream which was an interesting texture. It's not like the mochi I'm used to but I always love to try new things. The portion size is pretty good!
google avatar

Mina S.

Yelp
Ahhh!!!! I wish I could rate this place a 6 I'm so happy I work so close to this location and it's open late which is too perfect I usually see a line and a crowd of people but you don't wait long for your order at all... This time I got the Hokkaido and Matcha swirl with MBR, this will forever be a favorite, I love kuromitsu and kinako powder so it's delicious!!! The special yaki imo brulee ice cream was also SCRUMPTIOUS I'm so sad it's a limited time special, please keep it all year round
google avatar

Yelp
Came here to the expansion from their eagle rock location. It's just as good! Love the chocolate wall but the matcha was also phenomenal. Highly recommend. Service was quick and efficient. Fantastic addition to the sawtelle area!!
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
Love the soft serve. The swirl is the way to go. Pretty creamy. Not much seating space. Staff is friendly. May have a line. Street parking is available.
google avatar

Hayley Z.

Yelp
The milk soft serve is super refreshing! Not too sweet but delicious. Fast service too!

Nabiha K.

Yelp
Ordered the matcha swirl and the crème brûlée and it was delicious. My favorite was the custard and creme brûlée! Soph took our order and she was the absolute sweetest! Will definitely come back! My only request is that they include a tip jar!
google avatar

Marion S.

Yelp
This place was yummy to try! There were a lot of people outside but the line was short. The aesthetic was nice, they had a pretty mural on the wall. This was where HoneyMe was! We got the swirl MBR and milk matcha. They were both very unique and flavorful. The MBR would be better if it was a syrup more than a powder, or if there was more powder.
google avatar

Cody P.

Yelp
I was walking along Sawtelle, trying to digest the two dinners I'd just wolfed down when I noticed that an Indigo Cow had opened up across the street! Even though the store is brand spanking new, the store already had a cluster of people outside its doors. The wait was honestly not bad at all - maybe two parties ahead of me on a Thursday night around 8pm. I got the Hokkaido Milk and Matcha Swirl with MBR (Mochi, Brown Sugar, and Roasted Soybean Powder). The soft serve was so creamy and flavorful. The Hokkaido milk was rich, fatty, and complemented the matcha well. The kinako powder elevated it with its roasted nutty flavor. This was a delicious ice cream.
google avatar

Priyanka M.

Yelp
Not too sweet, in the best way. Also, I have celiac disease and didn't have any issue with the plain and matcha soft serve swirl.

Yelp
Bad customer service, talks rudely to customer, basically threw the ice cream cup on the counter for me to catch? Aesthetic is nice. Ice cream was okay.

Yelp
Been excited for their opening for a while so during a walk down Sawtelle just had to pop in. The place is very small and just for a grab and go type of sitch. The menu is focused on their key milk and matcha soft serve and toppings. I opted for the Swirl of the two flavors and that was a bit extra. Both flavors were delish at first scoop. The milk flavor was light and slightly milk-y while the matcha was pretty strong but also pretty sweet to cut the bitterness. With the swirl, I felt the got more matcha than the milk or the matcha overpowered the milk. Even with scoops of just milk, I felt I was tasting matcha. I enjoyed the little scoop overall but it did melt extremely quickly. I was barely half a block down and I could see a pool of melted soft serve at the bottom of my cup. Not sure if it's because the soft serve wasn't cooled enough to stay solid longer or if that is how it is but that was kind of disappointing because a few minutes in, I was drinking soft serve soup. I'd still come back but this time only get the milk as I felt that was more unique vs the matcha.
