Ingo's Tasty Diner - Review - Santa Monica - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"We hate the word “tasty." It’s annoying and boring and undescriptive. It’s in that same annoying vein as when an acquaintance from high school posts a sh*tty picture on Facebook of ghost-white fettuccine alfredo alongside a liter of Arizona iced tea with the caption “YUMMY!” We doubt it, Kelly. We really doubt it. Facebook aside though, we can confidently tell you including the word “tasty” in any title is not just annoying, it's also pretty ballsy. Particularly when it’s not exactly the case. Ingo’s Tasty Diner, while having a pretty happening vibe inside, does not exactly live up to its “tasty” name. While we appreciate what the folks at Ingo’s are going for - a trendy atmosphere with good cocktails and hyped up greasy diner classics - the food is ultimately disappointing. Everything should be a bit more stripped-down and simple than what-do-young-people-like-to-eat-right-now. We don’t need lobster on our BLT. We want our fries to be hot and greasy. And we certainly don’t need yogurt sauce on our broccoli. Don’t get us wrong, none of it is outrageously terrible. But it’s certainly not the reason you go to Ingo’s. You go to Ingo’s because the vibe is fine, and you really want a few drinks with friends and some food to munch on while you talk. Bizarre detail alert: It closes at 10pm on weekends, which we're pretty sure is earlier than P.F. Chang's down the street. The early closing time is a requirement of Ingo's liquor license, but it's still an unfortunate logistical problem for a place that strongly pushes its cocktail menu. Because that’s why you come to Ingo’s - the cocktails. And a big bar with an unstuffy scene where you won’t be inundated by shrieking post-grads on the prowl. So let go off the whole “tasty” thing. It's weird and unnecessary. And Ingo’s Cocktails & Vibes sounds far more interesting. Food Rundown Deviled Ranch Eggs Pretty basic. However, we might have enjoyed these more had we known the massive letdown on the horizon in the form of spicy char-grilled broccoli. Spicy Char-Grilled Broccoli This was served cold and it weirded us out. We even inquired as to whether or not it was supposed to be cold. It was. When eating charred broccoli, we prefer for it be hot. And good. Kennebec Fries Much like the char-grilled broccoli, these were cold and soggy. But not intentionally. Blue Ribbon Cheeseburger We’d recommend ordering this if you’re coming in for a cocktail and also need sustenance. It’s probably your safest bet on the menu. Salted Chocolate Cookie These are provided on your way out. Try not to think about the fact that every hand west of the 405 has reached into that cookie bowl, and just enjoy it." - Amanda Williamson

"Five years after Ingo’s Tasty Diner closed, the same restaurant group has returned to the space with a new name. Diner Antonette pulls a few hits from Ingo’s menu like the crispy brussels sprouts and mezze spreads, along with dishes like Bombay fried chicken and pasta with crab and lobster. The space still has the look of a classic diner with big leather booths, and there’s an adjacent gift shop selling wine and books." - cathy park

Ingo’s Tasty Diner in Santa Monica Resurrects as Art Deco Bistro Diner Antonette | Eater LA

"Reopened on June 18 with a fresh look and a name honoring owner Bob Lynn’s late mother, this longtime Wilshire Boulevard diner occupies a barrel‑ceiling, Streamline Moderne building with an Art Deco facade, neon sign and original terrazzo flooring. The renovation added an adjacent retail wine shop, gift boutique and a spacious hidden back patio that seats about 60, while the interior shifts from darker teal to warm neutrals, sleek black leather seating and three showcase paintings by Sara Abbott. The menu, refreshed by Lynn and his son/culinary director Jordan Lynn, emphasizes California‑inflected seasonality and daily‑fresh seafood: highlights include poached baby artichokes, peaches with scratch ricotta and sorrel pesto, pan‑roasted Scottish salmon with braised Tuscan kale, the restaurant’s popular crispy Brussels sprouts with marcona almonds and baked goat cheese, classic mains like meatballs with rolled spaghetti and steak au poivre, a cheddar‑topped burger ground to order, whole roast branzino Provençal, and dungeness crab or lobster over handmade pasta. Desserts include an olive oil cake with saffron and gelato from Lynn’s Phoenix artisanal maker Grateful Spoon (with an option to sample flavors), paired with a concise list of smaller‑producer wines and inventive cocktails. Lynn — a trained chef and multiunit operator who aims to own his buildings for long‑term stability — intends for the spot to become a neighborhood institution; brunch and an expedited, reasonably priced lunch hour are planned. The restaurant is open daily for happy hour at 4 p.m., dinner from 5 p.m. and closes at 10:30 p.m., with lunch and brunch service coming soon." - Matthew Kang

This just reopened and totally nails the balance between old-school diner charm and a modern, curated vibe. The bold, colourful artwork, cozy booths, warm lighting, and great music all come together to create an awesome atmosphere. The service is top-notch. Every server we talked to was super friendly and knew all about the place, the menu, and the drinks. We tried a few cocktails, but the one that really stood out was the Ramos Old-Fashioned, so full of taste! The food was just as impressive. The cheeseburger is made with Angus beef that’s ground to order. You could tell the difference, it was juicy and fresh. The lobster pasta was incredible — the pasta is made fresh in-house and it totally shows. We closed with the olive oil cake, light, delicate, and probably one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. Parking’s not bad — plenty of street spots, just check for meters depending on the time of day.

It was a Saturday night around 9pm and was very dead. Food was good and would return. I wish they remodeled the dining room with better seating. I would like dimmer lighting with lights on the tables. I wish they used more colors and not just back tables and back seating booths. The smell was off when I came into the restaurant. Smelled like mens musty cologne. Lol

Google
Service and atmosphere were excellents! But unfortunately I can not tell the same for the food: The pasta sold for 34 dollars is not worth that price, it looks like spaghetti panzani ready in 3 minutes. Nobody asked me about cooking steak, it was almost rare. White wine is served in beer glass.

Google
Great menu and beautiful ambience and friendly staff. Our server Adena was so helpful. The presentation of the dishes is over the top incredible. We started with the Mezze which was just incredible and moved on to the peaches and burrata.. I really love burrata and can't remember it ever combined with peaches which was just perfect. But we were stunned with the most delicious crab pasta which was delicate and delicious and the homemade pasta better than Italy. Save room for the olive oil cake which was another show stopper and plated in a gorgeous manner with homemade ice cream. And shout out to the bar with their inventive and terrific drinks. My Basil gimlet was just the best gimlet ever. Can't wait to return and so happy they have opened this wonder spot in Santa Monica!

A Santa Monica Gem! Diner Antonette is an absolute standout on the Westside dining scene. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a warm, retro-inspired atmosphere that perfectly balances nostalgic charm with modern California cool. The staff is attentive, genuine, and clearly passionate about creating a memorable experience. The menu is amazing with flavors you want to come back for --- fresh, seasonal ingredients and LGO Hospitality’s signature flair. I am a huge fan of their restaurants in Phoenix - each one an unforgettable experience! The bar scene is definitely on the Hollywood hot list! And the signature cocktails are to die for! Can't wait to go back!

The service here is really really friendly and fast. We had the starter of Brussels sprouts and cauliflower flowers, the sprouts were awesome. Also had the ribs which we loved, the pasta was great but a little small. Drinks also very good

Google
Yay - finally reopened! The name has changed, Ingo’s is now history, but Antonette has resurrected the legacy. Same owners, great service, same great ambience, and my smash-burger cheeseburger was just what the doctor ordered (I have a peculiar PCP). I look forward to sampling the rest of the menu, and will probably add in a cocktail or two. If they’re not on my prescription list, they soon will be. Cheers!

Google
After a day of walking around, I was.glad to find a place that looked cozy. Live Jazz on a Sunday afternoon is a bonus. Food, beer choice, attentive staff makes the place worth visiting, the minimal (but well kept) diner atmosphere makes the place feel like it's from a movie.

Yelp
Ingo's is in the space once occupied by Callahan's, and they made a solid attempt to keep the local diner feel, but the comparison ends there. Ingo's is run by very experienced restauranteurs, and the food and drinks are first class. They have a wonderful rotisserie, and they're constantly changing the menu, so that the meat dishes are succulent and varied. They stress farm to table, and we love the variety of vegetables and salads, and if you want to add chicken to their superb caesar, you can be sure it won't have been boiled that morning and then popped on the grill just before they add it to your salad, it will have been taken off the rotisserie, pulled from the bone, and will be juicy and delicious. I usually eat at R&D Kitchen or Aestus, but the food at Ingo's is just as good or better, and their prices are more reasonable. They have a super nice staff and the servers are well-trained and friendly. We keep trying to sit in Lisa's section, but Bennette, Ananya, Tori, Layla, Brandon, Hayley and all the rest are wonderful. I like the place so much, I've been eating there 4-5 times a week. Callahan's never had a liquor license, but Ingo's has a full bar and creative mixologists, so you can be sure the drinks are interesting and also priced reasonably.

Yelp
I'm not so great with being put in a BOX. I don't like limits/restrictions. Especially when I go out. Call me crazy, but when I go out, I want to relax and have a great and leisurely time...isn't that the whole reason for going out?! I have a friend who insists on buzzkilling the experience before the experience has even started with all her rules. Anything that is quantifiable has to have a limit. "I can only consume x-number of calories, and spend x-amount of dollars, and can only be out for x-number of minutes and it has to be within x-number of miles." Fun, right? Anyway, we would end up here more often than I wanted to because to her, it checks off all of her BOXES. As mentioned, I don't like BOXES, metaphorical or literal. This restaurant is actually a BOX. A long rectangular BOX. And it physically feels suffocating. Like a BOXcar. And it's dark. And dreary. Like heavy dark textures. And closed in. Get me out of the BOX; I like light, open, and bright. The service feels contrived. Like they're following a script and bound by rules and timers. Ugh, there are those rules again. Something almost always goes awry with the service (something doesn't get delivered or what not), and almost always we get visited by the manager who is really at your table to check it off his list because something went amiss with service or expediting. It must be a rule for the server to report every little thing that goes wrong to the manager, and it must be a rule for the manager to do a follow-up visit to "make it right." Big kudos to them though because they actually do a really great job of making it right. Anyway if you like rules and BOXES and flow charts, this is your spot. Back to my friend's rules: there are a couple healthy options available and the $$ is very reasonable, especially during happy hour. Free street parking can be found, though not the most convenient. The food to me is super blasé. Drinks decent. Vibe hipster dreary. P.S. It's not a diner. And it's not tasty while we're at it. And I can't be too positive that it belongs to Ingo or if Ingo even exists. Feels too corporate. It's a manufactured name if I was a betting woman. Disclaimer: This review reflects pre-pandemic experiences. It is currently under construction, adding an outdoor patio...which should most definitely help with the heavy and suffocating vibes of its previous incarnation. The new incarnation was set to debut in autumn of this year (not sure if it's on schedule). I am open to looking at it again with fresh eyes.

Yelp
Wow -- I didn't realize it would be so difficult to find a place for breakfast/brunch in Santa Monica on a Sunday...! We parked in one of the garages on 4th, went for a wander (a long wander) -- and finally turned to Yelp to help us find some place to eat. Ingo's was our destination! I wasn't sure what to expect (based on name), but what a fun little place! Very chic interior -- it looks like it would be a place for a great date night, too. If you're a tea lover like myself, you'll be delighted to know they serve Steven Smith's tea! I wish I knew that before I ordered my iced tea. I ended up ordering the French omelette (without leeks). My friend had the chilaquiles. The red and green sauce that the chilaquiles came with was delicious! I'd be tempted to order them next time. The only thing that would have made the place five stars was better service -- I had to ask for an iced tea refill (my glass sat empty after the one refill I requested) and my water glass was empty, never to be refilled. The server was kind of MIA -- the restaurant isn't huge, so who knows where he was? 2019: 44/100

Yelp
What a fantastic place ! Well documented, thank goodness, because it was getting a bit late for thinking about dinner - and literally, the closest option that had some Yelpy love was Ingo's. Sounding intriguing, and this is a definite fun and tasty place to visit. They have Happy Hours, and on Sundays, there's a crazy wine special. Cost, plus like five dollars per bottle. Hard to go wrong there. Tried a simple, curious app of roasted garlic, and ciabatta bread. It's really more of a toast, and yes, you've got a great DIY garlic toast to nosh while settling into the menu and your first sips of, say, a crisp Sancerre from Loirre Valley. Wow. They have an abundance of more robust appetizers, but I really didn't want to fill up before an entree. Still, being pretty hungry, the burgers sounded great. And they are. There are a few choices, and I knew I'd be all over the Paris Texas Burger. LGO Reserve Beef, house made steak sauce, Applewood Bacon, Cheddar and more. Cooked perfectly, and extremely satisfying. Comes with fries, which I also loved. The fries were super simple, but very good. The house made steak sauce was solid, and not a distraction. I asked for a light dressing of it, plus some on the side so I could make sure if I liked or not. Happily, they effortlessly honored requests like that. Service needs a special mention. When walking in here, there were just a couple of seating options available. The Hostess was helpful and patient. And, because I was kind of cold, they did not bat an eye when I asked to move to a place a bit further from the (open) door. It's a very friendly place. So glad to have come across Ingo's. They are Tasty indeed. Oh, and a fun bonus: On the way out, there was an open jar of cookies..seemingly complementary. Grabbed one for the walk to the car - a delicious oatmeal/chocolate chip cookie. Mmm. Cannot wait to dig a bit deeper into the menu at this fun, welcoming modern-day Supper Club.

Yelp
I got an invite from a couple friends who live close by to Ingo's, it was pouring cats and dog and having a second thought if I should even go... I'm glad I did. So our party arrived and immediately got seated, the place looks cool and has a classic diner vibe almost deco-nouveau'ish but not quite... anyway - it was cool and the staff were very nice. Looking at the menu I found many things that I wanted to try but finally opted for the fried chicken with banana bread with bananas and blueberries in top - oh my... it was delish! The side of roasted Brussels sprouts dis not disappoint either, it was yummy to say the least. Our group had a great time, amidst the pouring rain we get to have this delightful lunch while downing a glass of iced coffee laced with vodka! I love it! I would definitely visit Ingo's again! Btw to top off this lunch we truly appreciate a visit from I believe the owner/manager who chatted with us for a bit, I thought that was very nice. Anyway, I really like this place, the food and the awesome staff - the price isn't too bad either! Check them out, definitely a thumbs up!

Yelp
I've been to Ingo's Tasty Diner twice and both times were filled with great surprises! The first time we ended up sitting at the bar where they offered us a batch of freshly baked cookies as we figured out what we wanted to order. Pro tip: If you ever have to wait for a table, grab the complimentary cookies from the jar at the front! The second time was for a more affordable Valentine's Day dinner. We called ahead to get on the priority list, which means less of a wait, and they were even sweet enough to give a small bouquet of flowers for the holiday - so thoughtful! We got pulled in by their live music (originally the website said it was a jazz dinner, but turned out to be a xylophonist. Sundays apparently have great live jazz). Otherwise, my English Cut Prime Rib was all kinds of juicy and delicious. Great local joint with locally bought ingredients. Easily gets 5 stars based on the customer service as they'll take care of you well (even if it's packed!).

Yelp
Awesome place to dine or have a drink. Farm to table and the best Brussels sprout dish on the planet!

Yelp
I came for the Sunday night wine deal, I'll need to return for the free cookies- which apparently I missed after my meal! Inside Ingo's combines retro diner style in a more upscale, classy package. For Supper I kept it simple with the Pan Roasted Scottish Salmon: perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and a rich, savory interior. Exactly what I needed for a lighter dinner. However looking at all the other diner fare, I will have to come back again to try something a little bit more greasy spoon.
google avatar

Yelp
We came for dinner on a Sunday night and judging from the dishes we ordered I'd say their food is about 3-star. The curry mussels was the best one, the spaghetti with meat balls was so so, and the two salads were... well just underwhelming. There are many good reviews for their brunch but most of those dishes were not available for dinner. It's mostly a drinking place at night, it seems. If you like old fashioned bars, this may be your cup of tea (no pun, of course;) but otherwise I'd say brunch would be the better value for your money. An extra star for the Service staff who work very hard - attentive and customer oriented. I ordered the beef carpaccio and it wasn't what I expected; they took it back and let me ordered a different dish. Many street parking spots but since it's Santa Monica, Parking can be very hard to find. And don't forget to READ THE SIGNS (can be up to 3 or 4 on the residential streets). The rules are many and the signs can be confusing. Be careful so you don't end up with a ticket.

The food and service exceeded all my expectations. We certainly loved the environment of this place. Amazing place to take my family for lunch

Yelp
Don't let the "Diner" name fool you, this is a very good restaurant with a chef-driven menu and craft cocktails and a good wine list. It's not a traditional diner like Santa Monica's Rae's, which is very good in its own right. Much of the food is locally sourced and is prepared with a chef's touch. I've had some great seafood, especially fish, the burgers are very good, and salads are crisp and fresh. I've never been disappointed with vegetables here. There are very good cocktails here, crafty without being too precious. They offer about 10 house cocktails - the Risky Business with Ford's Gin, Amaro Angeleno, lemon & bitters is excellent. They also have a good wine list and a few beers on tap. Service is excellent. The bartenders are capable and there are plenty of staff who are very attentive. They have a great happy hour, available every day of the week. House cocktails are half off, and appetizers and burgers are discounted. They also offer wines at wholesale prices on Sundays and Mondays. Good food and drink at good prices. Don't forget to treat yourself to a free cookie on the way out!

Yelp
Thank you, Christine, James and the rest of the Ingo's team for inviting us to try your diner again. Our second experience was awesome! We went for brunch this time, and both the food and the team were outstanding! The deviled eggs with goat cheese, toasted hazelnuts, and chives provided a scrumptious entry to the meal. I was torn between the brunch-y Crispy Chicken and Crepes and the lunch-y Signature Prime Rib French Dip and opted for the sandwich. Tender in-house made rotisserie prime rib slices piled high between crunchy ciabatta bread, warm au jus, and eye-wateringly pungent horseradish - YUM! I'm not even a sandwich person, and I'm looking forward to polishing off the second half of my French dip tomorrow. My friend's Farmers Daughter Cheeseburger came appealingly plated, with a buttery toasted bun, juicy patty, and crisp fries. We finished with a gorgeously-coordinated dish of fresh fruit including strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, bananas and grapes for dessert. Our server was super sweet and friendly! She let us know that Ingo's offers daily happy hour until 7pm including $6 cocktails and wine and beer specials. The General Manager, James, stopped by to chat and was wonderfully knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Such a sincere, cool guy! We will definitely check out Ingo's live jazz during Sunday brunch and Wednesday (Tuesday?) nights. IWe had an awesome weekend brunch and look forward to our next meal with Ingo's.

Yelp
Really liked the feel of Ingo. It's cozy and has a comfortable feel. The service is really good. The menu has a lot of unique options. The Brussels Sprouts are amazing! Our burrata and meatballs and noodles was cold... that was a big let down because it looked delicious. Also parking was pretty difficult... but it was a Fri night at 6:30 so we get it. Overall it was a really good experience.

Yelp
Very good food, very good atmosphere and very good service. Came on Sunday for brunch with a live band. Mixed crowd. From hipsters, families, and seniors. Found free street parking! In SM that's a deal. I had the burger, and it was classic. My friends had the shakshukah(sp?) and it was really phenomenal. Another ordered something healthy with lox.

Yelp
I've been coming to Ingo's for a number of years now. I started as a regular, coming once or twice a month for a couple years, but have grown tired of their ever increasing food prices and generally small portion sizes. The food is good, don't get me wrong, but I never quite feel the value of what I ordered. Their cocktails are a solid deal on happy hour only - they're truly delicious and a good value at $8; they're a bad value at the full menu price of $14. And let's talk about happy hour, and specifically how they bill for it. The receipt from my most recent visit required some serious mental gymnastics to figure out. 1) So if you don't know, happy hour is for drinks only, not food. On your receipt they list your drinks at full price and include a "happy hour discount" at the bottom. In my case, we ordered 4 drinks for a total of $54 which was accompanied by a "happy hour discount" of $24. 2) A Kitchen Fee of 4% is included on your bill. This is 4% of your un-discounted price, and for me, it ended up being 5.5% 3) Tax is paid on your discounted bill + the kitchen fee, so you're paying tax on the Kitchen Fee, unlike a tip which is something you pay after tax 4) The Suggested Gratuities on the bottom of your receipt is based on your *un-discounted* price. So, if you're just trying to pay your bill and leave, and not go through this whole review process, and you pay the suggested 18% gratuity listed on the the bottom of your check, you end up paying 33% on top of your bill for gratuity + kitchen fee. Yikes. A request for Ingo's - itemize happy hour like every other restaurant. The way you're doing it now is at best confusing and at worst deceitful. Also, pay your kitchen a decent wage instead of tacking on 4% (or more) to each person's bill.

Yelp
The name is entirely appropriate. This isn't your average greasy spoon diner, but it does feature approachable comfort food, but is by no means boring. The atmosphere is casual, somewhat dark and loud in the evenings, so its not exactly the kind of place to have a serious discussion but definitely a good place for relaxing meal and drink at the end of a long week. Service has always been pretty prompt and friendly. The menu seems to be the kind where everything that's on there, no matter how mundane it sounds is really special and worth trying. For example, during my last visit, we ordered the potato yanks thinking they would probably be some kind of fancy (ie better ingredients, smaller portion) version of potato skins, but it was actually most of the way towards a very delicious baked potato with all the toppings. Definitely enough to be a meal in itself, too. Same for the radicchio salad, complete with its delightful tiny wooden serving spoons. We loved the crisp, not too bitter greens and the tangy but not overpowering dressing. The French dip was also excellent -- tender meat and delicious bread. I know I'll be missing the Freddy Smalls (RIP) french dip, but this is a great substitute. The drinks here have been mostly good, though the blood orange cocktail I got was basically a cup full of tequila. (: Still tasty, though. I would not recommend the cookies in the bell jar by the door if you, like me, are over the salting every dessert trend, but everything else I've had here has been good so I'll definitely be back to try more things.

Yelp
Okay. I'm already in love!!! Just got out cocktails... Came in for dinner and walked in on happy hour! Can't wait for my French dip and Marcus' Paris -Texas cheeseburger! I have a very strong feeling this place is gonna be a regular spot!!

Yelp
Fun new age American cuisine with that classic American diner feel. The place has booths which are great for groups of 6 or less. The service was good and the food was tasty. Apps - deviled eggs - yum with a slice of beet on top - Brussel sprouts - crispy, flavorful and comes with a pot of goat cheese Salads - corn salad was decent. I added turkey for protein Entrees Spaghetti and meatballs - sauce did not taste homemade and was a bit underseasoned Crab cakes - delicious but would have liked them a little more crispy The music was fun and on your way out they had some homemade cookies yum!
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
I started with a happy hour glass of Chardonnay which is their brand. It was great since I'm not a big wine person. I shared a cob salad, the turkey was moist and tender. I also shared a full rack of baby back ribs. The ribs were just tender but not off the hook great as the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. We also enjoyed some of the Brussels Sprouts which was extremely plentiful and tasty. This place is loud! I really don't see a need for the background music, it makes that much harder to hear people at your table. Overall a good experience. It get busy so make a reservation.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing!!!!!!!! Did I say amazing?! When you read the name you think of that southern diner with really good breakfast, but I was mistaken and greatly surprised. It is a farm-to-table restaurant with a well thought out atmosphere, from the floor plan to the decor! There is plenty of street/meter parking available along side the restaurant and across the street with constant turn arounds. I was immediately greeted by a smiling host, got a nice booth (my favorite) for two almost instantly. After a smiling face, I was greeted by another from my server. It's like the dining version of Chick-fil-a, everyone is having a fantastic day. Being from the south, we pride ourselves on making people feel like they're at home and feel appreciated, southern hospitality. I felt that and I hadn't even had the food yet. We ordered a few things because we are small women but my friend and I eat like 10 men a piece. I heard the executive chef was from down south so I had to try his baby back ribs, we also ordered the mussels, Brussel sprouts, halibut, heirloom tomato and avocado salad, and spaghetti and meatballs with hand made pasta. Everything was delightful!!! My favorite were the mussels and the Brussel sprouts, oh and the ribs!!! The spaghetti I wish had more pasta but it didn't take away from the flavor of course; tasty dish overall. On the way out we were offered a cookie! Awww refreshing experience, I will be back!!!

Dude. This place is cool. It's like walking back in time but, with a nice modern twist. Not only is the space beautiful but, the menu is thoughtfully planned. Oh, and they have a killer happy hour! Pulled this from their site: HAPPY HOUR UNTIL 7PM EVERY DAY. HALF PRICE ON OUR ENTIRE LIBRARY OF SPIRITS, OUR SIGNATURE HOUSE CRAFTED COCKTAILS, AND SELECT TOP SHELF WINES. See, told you this place was cool. I just popped in for a drink with a friend but, wished I hadn't eaten lunch an hour earlier because the food looked great! I'll be back ASAP!

Yelp
COMPLIMENTARY CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES!!! Okay now that I have your attention , Ingo's was a pretty bomb experience for me. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and zucchini bites. The Brussels sprouts came with a buttermilk goat cheese dip which was insanely good. The brussel sprouts were seasoned with balsamic vinegar and sugar. Pretty standard flavor I do prefer savory brussel sprouts to sweet just my preference . The zucchini bites were perfectly fried, but you wanna eat them fast before they get soft. The filling consisted of Potato and chorizo , which had a nice lil kick to it 7.5/10. On your way out the host will offer some salted chocolate chip cookies which are out of this world good. Accept them and enjoy :)

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon around 1230pm! You can find residential parking for free or street parking! I came w/ 3 other people are we got seated right away. FOOD: We ordered the deviled eggs to start - which had goat cheese, beets, toasted hazelnuts and chives. It comes on a wooden platter - 6 egg halves. This is one of their most recommended and popular appetizers! For happy hour, it's only half the price - so worth it! It's so tasty :') I got the shakshuka ($15) in their brunch menu which includes moroccan braised eggs, spicy tomato gravy, harissa, lebani & homemade sausage (additional $4). It comes in a metal bowl which keeps your dish nice and warm! It's very tomato flavored - it kinda overpowers the entire dish! I wish they added other vegetables in there to give it more variety. It comes with 2 slices of toast of crunchy and buttery goodness. The service here is great! The waiter asked if we've been there before, recommended popular dishes, he knew the menu very well since we asked many questions and overall very friendly! They also had free cookies near the entrance - perfect way to end the meal!

Yelp
This place is owned by the same owners as The Misfit but the ambience is more diner than fine dining. The seats have a very diner feel and there is also a long bar area. They have all day happy hour until 7pm and all draft beers, wine, and speciality cocktails are $6. We came on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. They have free cookies in the front which were pretty good. I ordered the french omelet which I thought was okay. I liked the cheese; I thought it complemented the omelet well and the asparagus bits added a nice crunch. I also ordered the greyhound drink which tasted very grapefruit-y, maybe a little too much for my taste but I still liked it. I'd love to come back during the evening when it's more packed and has a more upbeat atmosphere.

Yelp
Was invited back to give this place another try. Thankfully the servers were more attentive this time as it wasn't as busy as my first visit. The ambience made for a nice date night. My friend has the steak strips which were the best thing I've had here so far. The guacamole was good just a bit overpriced for the amount I felt. Parking is sometimes a hassle here but it is by the college and beach area so that's kinda to be expected. Decent spot to check out if you don't mind spending on average 20$ a plate starting.

Yelp
4.5 stars. I have been here a few times recently and really enjoy it! The restaurant is sort of an up-scale farm-to-table take on a diner with a medium noise level. I've never had any issues with waiting, but also have happened to eat early whenever I come here. The service has always been excellent! Every sever that I've had has been pleasant, efficient, and so on top of it! For appetizers I have had the guacamole and the tuna tartare, both of which were excellent. They only use the freshest ingredients and what's in season, so your dish is guaranteed to be super fresh. The guacamole had great flavor and their chips weren't too greasy and salty. The ahi tuna was very fresh and went very well with the avocado mash. For entrees, I had had: Crispy brussel sprouts (with marcona almonds and a goat cheese dipping sauce), club salad (rotisserie turkey, mixed greens, white cheddar, bacon, egg, dates, avocado, and sunflower seeds), and the loup de mer (with broccolini and a lemon caper beurre blanc). All of these entrees are delicious!!! Their crispy brussel sprouts are to die for. They are crispy without being oily and they go perfectly with their delicious goat cheese dip!!! The club salad is one of my favorite entrees because every ingredient in it is so fresh (even the egg yolk is bright orange because the egg is so fresh). Their rotisserie turkey is so flavorful, tender, and moist! I literally could not make a better salad at home if I tried. It's drop dead delicious. Their loup de mer was also great! The fish was super fresh and their broccolini was done perfectly. The only reason why I gave 4.5 stars is because my glasses have had lipstick stains on them on a couple occasions. Whenever I have told my server, they have been super nice and have immediately gotten me a new glass. I know that the glasses are sanitized and that it is just the waxy residue left over, but I can't get past it because it feels yucky. Since this has happened to me a few times, it might be something that they need to work on to make sure that their glasses are extra clean. The prices can be a bit up there, but honestly I think it's totally worth it for what you get. The food is delicious and the service is superb. Overall, fantastic food, superb service, great ambience, fair prices! I highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Yelp
Ingo's is kind of unassuming from the street, and that's why I've walked by here a million times before peeking inside. That being said, everything impressed me when I finally did take a chance on it on a Sunday morning. I sat at the bar and ordered eggs Benedict and the giant hash browns, both of which are housemade. I got a side of their (also) housemade fermented hot sauce, too -- totally delicious. Everything was flavorful and interesting without being gimmicky. I even appreciated the fact that the side of fruit was strawberries/blueberries/blackberries, because I usually expect some crappy cantaloupe and one (1) grape from a diner. Service was impeccable. Caleb, Sam, and Lyric took great care of me -- these dudes seriously understand good food, drinks, and customer service -- but, beyond that, there seemed to be a solid sense of camaraderie between servers at the bar vs. the rest of the place. Even the bussers seem happy to be here. Management clearly knows what they're doing, and it shows. They had a jazz band playing at the front, which took me by surprise because (though the restaurant is cozy) I didn't expect them to show up in this kind of venue. Apparently, a lot of people show up here in the evenings for happy hour, too. I can see why. They have a really compelling happy hour that goes until 7pm every day. Once in a blue moon, I find a restaurant that's so enjoyable it makes me miss when I worked as a server. This is one of those places. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Meh, it doesn't live up to the hype if you ask me. The French dip was good, so stick with that, because the chicken and veggies were rather underwhelming. Not only was there no sauce, making the dish as a whole dry, and there was nothing special about the seasoning, but it was also pretty expensive and I wasn't full afterwards. That kind of combo - expensive and not full - makes me angry, or should I say, hangry. So my recommendation if you want to play it safe with something that is good and filling is to stick with what they're known for, which is the French dip.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night to have some food and drinks with friends. They don't make reservations, instead, they put your name on the list so you still have to wait for a table. We only had to wait 20-25 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday night. The service was great, as it didn't take too long for the waitress to notice us and get our drinks order. Ingo's Tasty Diner is Great place to meet up with friends. Quiet without getting silent and the food is amazing. The drinks menu was extensive. Portions were good and I didn't feel like going into a food coma after leaving. Try their Brussel sprouts, it's delicious! Get ready to spend some $$$, as this place is pretty pricey but worth the price in my opinion. There is no parking, expect the metered parking on Wilshire.

Yelp
Leaving this place very very full. We came for a Sunday morning breakfast and enjoyed every bite. We had the summer vegetable scramble, shakshuka + chorizo, and side of hashbrowns. The meal included everything you want in a breakfast. They even offer fresh baked cookies on your way out -- we had no room so we didn't take the hostess up on her offer. If you end up going, make sure you leave some room - they looked delicious!

Yelp
Came here late night and thank you Yelp. This place was so amazing, the food and drinks were great, and service was on. Came here one night with a few friends and each one of us enjoyed our experience. This place has a old diner vibe and kinda dark at night. I enjoyed the black bean burger. My boyfriend enjoyed the french dip sandwich. Totally suggest these items on the menu. There is street parking available.

Yelp
The service here is absolutely perfect. Attentive, but not overbearing. Friendly, but not over-solicitous. Our server recommended some good items when we asked. The interior is classic diner meets mid century modern and I love it. What we ordered: 1. Meatballs with handmade spaghetti 2. Vegan black bean burger 3. Broccoli The meatballs and spaghetti were the best thing we got. My friend was very happy with them. The veggie burger was a mix. The patty was super good, but soft and crumbly. It fell apart as soon as I picked it up. The bread was too greasy, making my fingers a mess. It looked like it was soaked in oil before toasting. The broccoli was alright. Very basic roasted broccoli. We should have ordered the Brussels sprouts like everyone recommended. The french dip was also highly recommended by our server. We didn't drink, but the drinks looked really good at the bar. I think the menu needs more good vegan main dishes, but for non-vegans the menu is solid. Make sure to grab a cookie on your way out! They're free and delicious. Street parking. Bathrooms are behind skinny doors labeled WC.

Yelp
Ok, they didn't have any mac and cheese. At all. But still, this was one of the better Bourbon selections in town and the happy hour specials are fantastic. I saw someone order the Eggs Benedict at another table so had to try it myself. It did not disappoint. The whole reports her chicken was good - not wonderful - but the cocktail she ordered... the "Miss Callahan" was extraordinary. Friendly staff, good ambiance (check out the school photo on the way to the bathrooms) and this place is one of my local favorites.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the name, Ingos isn't your average diner around Santa Monica. It's an incredible farm to table restaurant with elevated entrees with a trendy interior. The food is a bit pricey, but for good reason. Its prepared well and portioned well. The white fish sandwich and the lobster BLT are incredible. The brussels sprouts with goat cheese is a must try. But then again I'm dying to try all of their vegetable sides and entrees. Its a great date spot for dinner. I'm excited to try their brunch. Their cocktails are delicious and they do have a happy hour to check out! There isn't usually much of a wait and when there is they offer champagne to 21 and over guests. The servers are all friendly and efficient. Also the salty chocolate and chip cookies are excellent that they offer to you when they leave. This place is a gem and I could not recommend more.

Yelp
I love Ingo's! I actually prefer Ingo's over the Misfit because there's actual plates of food here, but at the Misfit, they are all small tapas. SERVICE: Service was impeccable. We didn't make any reservations, so had to wait about 30mins, and during that time, we were offered pink champagne! I don't know if it's the trend of West LA restaurants, but this is the 2nd restaurant in the area to offer us complimentary alcohol as we wait. After we were seated, the server came by to give some recommendations and answered any questions we might have about the menu. Since it was our first time there, the server patiently described some of their most popular items. FOOD: We ordered the famous crispy Brussels sprouts ($11) with melted goat cheese on the side as an appetizer. This was such an amazing combination because Brussels sprouts can be a bit dry when it's too crispy. We also had the deviled eggs (3 for $4), and that was ok. Nothing too amazing about the eggs. I had the rotisserie jindori chicken ($21) and it was super juicy and tender. Eating it was pretty effortless since the meat is so moist that it just falls off the bones. That way, the ladies out there don't have to look barbaric while eating chicken on a date. My boyfriend got the ribeye ($25) and its a good quality piece of meat for a great price and huge portion! Just like the Misfit, they offer these amazing complimentary cookies on your way out. My boyfriend said he was too full to grab one, which was a big mistake!! Because he had a bite of mine and immediately regretted it. If you don't want to drive all the way down to Santa Monica and deal with the loads of people and cars just to dine at the Misfit, Ingo's is a great alternative!!

Yelp
This was a neighborhood jewel for causal yet satisfying food where both my husband and I went. The one place where I can get an amazing vegan and gluten free burger and he can get a prime rib sandwich. Now, they have changed their entire menu around and no longer accommodate those who are vegan. Their vegan burger is now vegetarian and can't be gluten free. This was literally the only dish they had on their menu that was an entree for those with dietary restrictions. Now you have the options. If getting sides and making it a meal some how. Like Fried Brussels sprouts or a side of smashed potatoes. Even after requesting the chefs, the managers and everyone I can think of there to bring back an ENTREE that is vegan AND gluten free friendly, they refuse. They have alienated an entire crowd of people who follow this type of Durst especially in SANTA MONICA. It's so disappointing to know that they had an amazing thing going and they had to go change it around. I refuse to go to this place and sit and watch my husband enjoy a meal while I get a side salad or a side of potatoes and wish they had an actual menu item!

Yelp
Everything Ingo's diner did was good: The service - good The food - good The ambiance - good The bar - good Parking on Wilshire - good The prices - a bit high but not by a lot A rock solid three stars! If I wasn't using the star system rating but using the Olympics 1 to 10 rating system, Ingo's would get a 7.5. So, when is good seem not to good? When a city like L. A. raises it culinary bar so high, like it has done the last several years, anything short of very good to excellent seems to become irrelevant. This shouldn't be happening, but it is. Oh, I could get pick-y-uny with some antics at Ingo's; like serving a chop salad in a Udon bowl. Or giving me my crab salad with the Louie dressing on the side without a spoon in which to disperse it, only a fork that didn't fit in the tub of dressing. But that's knit picking and Ingo's doesn't deserve that. After all it's a diner and good is just fine!

Yelp
Very pleased with the Brussels sprouts! A bit pricey at $14, but you do get a good-sized bowl of them. Love that kinda smoky, slightly blackened outer layer they had. Cooked to crispness and softened by the moisture of their dark sauce. The flavor is good, although a bit too sweet at first. They are meant to be dipped in an accompanying goat cheese dipping sauce. And ooh man, are they divine in that sauce. I think I actually closed my eyes in bliss the first time I tried it. Also liked the olive oil roasted head of garlic ($3). It was wonderful on ciabatta (+$2). The cloves spread like creamy butter onto the bread. I just wish it came with more than the two tiny ciabatta slices! Luckily, it also tastes good on the sprouts. They have a happy hour going as well, so their specialty cocktails, beers, and wines are all only $6. Fresh Basil Gimlet was a refreshing cocktail. Was light alcohol-wise and didn't feel much from it. But it did have a really nice flavor, especially if you love basil. The Bruery Mischief Belgian Ale was nice and strong at 8.5%. It wasn't sweet and sneaky like the equally strong Golden Chaos, but it was still enjoyable! The staff here is really friendly and they check on you often to make sure you have everything you need. Ambiance is nice and becomes darker and candlelit as evening begins. Also, they do have a bathroom. Just look on the far side of the bar table for the little door that says "W.C." (Water closet)

Yelp
Ingo's Tasty Diner is a bit of a hidden gem! The place has a diner vibe, but doesn't feel old at all. You could call it a modern diner. The food is similar - a lot of classic dishes with some twists (crispy chicken & crepes on the brunch menu, for example). Best part, it wasn't crowded at all when we stopped by around 10:30 AM - which is typically prime brunch time in LA! I ordered the house-cured salmon toast, which was just the right amount of food and so delicious! My boyfriend and I shared the hash browns, which was tasty. I'm not typically into hash browns (unless they're from McDonalds...), but I actually enjoyed the ones I had here. Our server was prompt & friendly! Other things to note: - They have live jazz during brunch every Sunday between 11 PM and 2 PM! - They sell wine! When you dine with them on Sundays and Mondays, you can buy wine at their price, plus $5.

Yelp
Arrived around 6:30pm on a Tuesday and this place was pretty empty. We were seated right away. We ordered: Chicken soup: 3/5 decent hearty and savory soup for a diner. Shredded chicken with tons of different veggies. Cheeseburger: 4/5 nice fluffy bun with a little crunch to it. The patty was tasty although it fell apart here and there. I ordered it medium and it came out med/rare. Served with plenty of fries. Roast beef sandwich: 3/5 this was a ok. The burger had a lot more flavor. Stick to the burgers. Served with a few slices of cucumbers. Service: our waitress was awesome except for some miscommunication which led to my mom having to reorder her burger. When the burger finally arrived she really enjoyed it. They even provided a mini etch a sketch for my toddler to play with. Overall: tasty burgers, loud diner/ booth style seating, great service, yummy complimentary sea salt choco chip cookies when you leave. Plenty of metered street parking (free after 6pm). Oh and hh till 7pm!

Yelp
The name of this restaurant really turned me off at first -- Diner? Tasty? I figured my date must be nuts to ask me to go to what I expected to be a slightly better version of Denny's. Well, Ingo's turned out to be flat out awesome. Nevermind the name. The dining room still feels like a diner with its layout and old fashioned seating but the drinks, food menu, and dimly lit vibe just scream hip gastropub. Right now it's decked out with Christmas decorations which makes it feel even more cool. The beers, wines and craft cocktails are only $6 during happy hour, which is until 7PM. I had the fresh basil gimlet which just burst with fresh grapefruit. The deviled eggs, served with either 3 or 6 and are topped with bacon and beets, were the best thing we ate during the whole meal. I highly recommend getting the half dozen; you won't have any leftover. There is a rotisserie section on the menu, and our server said that the roasted chicken is the most popular thing here. I decided to try the leg of lamb rotisserie, which was thinly sliced like gyro meat and served in au jus, with a vinaigrette cabbage salad and a harissa yogurt. I wasn't too fond of it (too healthy, maybe?) but my companion loved his burger. Our server was super cool and pleasant and checked on us frequently. As you exit, the hostess invites you to take a sea salt chocolate chip cookie on your way out! Even though I didn't love my main entree, I'll definitely be back and order better next time! TIP: Valet parking right outside for a fee.

Yelp
Went here for the first time last night after saying we wanted to try it for a couple years! It was worth the wait. Everything we tried was delicious. The meatballs with burrata cheese was my favorite. The Brussels sprouts with goat cheese dipping sauce = out of this world. The deviled eggs were different and amazing. The service was friendly. The vibe of the place was relaxing and fun. We will definitely be coming back to sample new items and enjoy the ones we already love.

Yelp
Ingo's Tasty Diner is oh so tasty. Came here last night right before 7pm and there was no wait. We had the brussels sprouts, prime rib and the NY steak. The brussels sprouts were the most amazing brussels sprouts I've ever eaten and I'd come back just for those alone. The prime rib came with arugula salad and a baked potato. It was great, although on the smaller side. The NY steak came with fries and was delicious as well. Will definitely be back to try everything else on the menu. P.S. Don't forget to grab a salted chocolate chip cookie on your way out!

Yelp
We went to Ingo's for Saturday night dinner. The restaurant does not take reservations, but you might be able to get on their waiting list the day before, which will move you up to the front of the line. I had the chicken hash, which was mediocre at best--not much chicken and a lot of greasy green and red bell peppers. My wife had the French dip sandwich, which was excellent. Our friends had the filet mignon--a little dried out and lacking flavor (for $39 it should have been much better), and Mary's chicken, which was good. To start, we split an order of roasted brussel sprouts, which were excellent. Service was good. The noise level is loud, but not unbearable. Given the other choices in Santa Monica, I doubt we will be back.

Yelp
Had high hopes for Ingo's knowing it was the sister spot to The Misfit and it didn't disappoint. The locale is awesome, it has a 50's vibe but everything is clean and new. The best part was that it was not crowded at all. If you've ever been to The Misfit, or any other place for a weekend brunch in LA for that matter, you can expect a lengthy wait. Not only did we easily find parking, we sat down right away. The drinks were awesome, the menu was fun and had a lot of things I wanted to try. I was in the mood for an old fashioned burger with a high class taste. Ingo's had exactly that. The Blue Ribbon Burger was cooked perfectly and incredibly tasty. The sesame seed bun gives it that old school feel and while the fries could be better, I was still very happy. The wife got the Crispy Chicken and Crepes which was basically a high class chicken and waffles. She loved it. We finished with a Banana Cream Pie and a Sunday's Best (iced coffee with horchata vodka) and went home full, happy and ready for a nap. Part of me hopes this will stay a hidden gem, because we'll definitely be back, but I certainly wish the folks from Ingo's and The Misfit the best.

Yelp
Santa Monica is filled with brunch/ breakfast options, but Ingo's is one of the few that's walking distance to my friends apartment. Food -Chicken and Banana Bread plate- sounded amazing as I'm a fan of both these items, but was a bit disappointed. Chicken was extremely bland and the bread was a bit dry. Portion size is tiny for a $19 plate of food. -Blue Corn Tortilla Chilaquiles- meh, not impressed by this item either. The tortillas were completely drenched in sauce and soggy. Food was lukewarm when it came out and the sauces themselves were underwhelming. Portion size was mediocre. Service -the saving grace is the excellent service. Staff is friendly and attentive, and they give a free cookie at the end. The best part of the meal was the thing we didn't pay for. Environment -interior is cute, not a large restaurant so seating can get packed. Overall, indigos diner didn't impress me. With all the options nearby, I'd rather go elsewhere with better food and prices.

Yelp
Comes from the same owners of Misfit bar, also in Santa Monica. Cool vibe, good food, great drinks. Diner format with lots of booths, and a modern hipster twist. Ordered the burger, deviled eggs, and Brussel sprouts. All really good! Really wanted to try the prime rib dip, which I heard great things about but they ran out! Service was attentive and friendly. They offer free sea salt chocolate chip cookies as you enter.. they are amazing. Don't forget to grab a few going in... and of course one for the road as well!!

Yelp
Ingo's is great. Upscale American food with a good cocktail selection. We normally start off with the Brussels sprouts which are indeed very tasty. They come with a warm ramekin of honey goat cheese. They're expensive, $14 for an order, but you get plenty; more than enough for 4 people to share as an appetizer. They have happy hour drinks (half off) until 7 pm and half off apps until 6 pm on weeknights. Be sure to grab a delicious salt dusted chocolate chip cookie on the way out.
