We stayed here from 5/23 to 5/28. It is in a great area and within walking distance from lots of sites. First impressions, by the look of the lobby, the place is nice. The staff, from the front desk to the bellhop, were professional and courteous. Upon entering our room (15th floor), with difficulty unlocking the door every time, it felt like we were instantly transported to a much lesser establishment. The lobby makes you forget how old the place actually is. Maybe some rooms are nice, but ours seemed pretty old and outdated. There was curled up wallpaper edges. Peeled paint on the ceiling. Caked up dust on the sprinklers. No closet, but an old narrow stand up wardrobe. Where the ice machine should be on our floor, there was a sign saying we had to go up a floor for ice. I unfortunately went up the cigarette ash covered stairway instead of waiting for an elevator. The order of the bedding didn't make any sense to me either. It went sheet, comforter, then another sheet....and there must be no fitted sheets because there was a flat sheet tucked around the mattress first. In the middle of the night, I found myself laying on bare mattress because the sheet came loose. I'm not going to complain about the mattress, despite it hurting both of our backs because maybe it's just our preference. Maybe it's too soft or maybe it's worn out. Who knows? The bathroom was shockingly tiny. A small pedestal sink, maybe 12" wide and no counter to put things. I could sit on the toilet, reach forward to wash my hands, while putting one leg up on the tub at the same time. There is some sort of vent on the bathroom wall, but it doesn't do anything. There is no exhaust fan and that vent doesn't pull any air out. So, there seems to be mold starting to form on the ceiling above the shower from the moisture that stays in the bathroom. The worst was the wall behind the bathroom sink faucet. It appears that maybe someone changed the faucet to one with a single handle that you lift up and back, but it's mounted too close to the wall so the wall blocks the handle from lifting all the way back. How was this issue resolved? By knocking a hole in the wall so that the fixture can move up all the way. So yes, there is a small hold behind the fixture handle as well as peeled paint all around it. Despite everything else, that unsightly area alone made me feel like the hotel just did not care what anyone thought of this room. We went up to the roof at one point. Nothing like the pictures. Maybe due to the iffy weather, but there were no cushions on any of the furniture. We were given a notice under the door that said, for one night, between 2am and 6am, the water will be shut off for maintenance. I went to the front desk to ask for a second ice bucket, just so we could fill it with water in case we needed it in the middle of the night to was or something. The woman politely told me that one would be sent to our room. Great. Before getting back to the elevator, I was stopped by a security guard and told that I already had an ice bucket. I explained that I am aware and why I had asked for a second. I think it's the least they could do for shutting off the water. He said they only allow one, but if he can find another, he'll bring it to my room. That never happened and I don't know why I had to be questioned by security over an ice bucket.
The day before checkout, in the morning, we see a card that was slid under our door. For going green and refusing housekeeping (the housekeeping lady was absolutely great btw), we were rewarded with a $5 voucher to be redeemed at their bar/lounge downstairs, wonderful. We brought it down before we went out for the day, but the bar didn't open till 5pm. We came back to the hotel after 10pm and the bar was closed. So, we went to the front desk, told them we were leaving at 6am the next day, and asked if we could redeem the $5 any other way. The guy said "of course" and instructed us to show the card at the front desk in the morning before we leave and they will give us a voucher to use at the cafe next door which opens at 6am. Perfect! The next morning, we did just that, and we were denied. We were told that management has instructed her not to do that, even after I explained what we were told just hours ago, her response was "im not going to do that" and "I don't know what to tell you"......She obviously didn't care. I calmly handed them back their $5 card and we left because we had no time to argue over it.
Overall, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone else. I understand that the place is old, but things seemed blatantly ignored.
