Insomnia Cookies Opens by UT Austin This November - Eater Austin

"Insomnia Cookies operates both a bakery and a delivery service, which will bring still-warm cookies to your door until 3 a.m. The menu will remain the same as other locations, with 12 flavors of cookies (think chocolate chunk, s’mores, peanut butter chip), which can be made into ice cream sandwiches, brownies, and cakes. It also serves milk. Insomnia’s Austin retail hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. weekends, and 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. weekdays. Delivery hours are from noon to 3 a.m. weekends, and then 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. weekdays. Insomnia was started in a college dorm room at the University of Pennsylvania and has expanded to over 100 stores nationwide, including one in San Marcos." - Erin Russell

Today, we chose the same place again because we liked the ice cream, but my friend's ice cream had a hair in it. We waited for the customers to leave so as not to create a bad impression, but the cashier immediately threw the ice cream in the trash and replaced it with a new one without even apologizing. The new ice cream he gave us also had hair in it, and we were truly shocked and sickened. When we explained the situation to the cashier again, he said, "What can I do? This isn't mine," acted like we were at fault, threw the ice cream back in the trash, refused to let him refill it, and left. We will never come here again; the hygiene was poor, and the employee's attitude was completely unpleasant.

Google
There was a hair in my ice cream. I told them — they gave me a new one… that one had a hair too! Two times in a row! Zero hygiene and the worker was super rude even though I was polite. I’ll never eat here again. Totally disgusting. Be careful if you go.

Google
Never using delivery from here again. Scheduled delivery 9pm. Delivered 10:37pm!!! Cold cookies - yum. This was a surprise gift for a friend and I explicitly chose the option to NOT text the recipient. They texted her anyway (even before the order was delayed). Called the store and the employee I spoke with was apologetic and said they’d redo the box if a driver ever showed up (they use DoorDash) bec he said thee box had been sitting there, prepped for a 9pm delivery. But as I hung up with him, I got the text that it was on its way so we got the original box :(. Insomnia needs to notate that they use a 3rd party for delivery and orders may be subject to delay. I get an order being slightly delayed but almost 2 hours is unacceptable. Or just don’t deliver outside of a particular radius. The only reason they are getting 2 stars instead of 1 is bec of their product itself.

Google
Cool, little cookie shop. As a certified Cookie Monster, this place was a treat. The counter associate was very friendly and polite. The bathroom said out of order, but another customer was allowed to use it.

Google
cannot stress enough how awful my experience was with them. they sent a drunk delivery driver to deliver my food, which they never delivered (because they were drunk). food was never delivered and i waited 2 hours. it was through Uber Eats and they were no help either.

Google
We just had an incredible experience at Insomnia cookies!! The ice cream and cookies are delicious but more importantly, the customer service was incredible. Thank you Marquez! He made us laugh and answered all of our questions and genuinely seemed excited about helping us out and it was a delightful experience. Most certainly would recommend. As far as flavours, the red velvet cookie was delicious as was the smores ice cream! We also tried the carmelmilionaire ice cream and the mint ice cream and cookie and it was all incredible!!

Google
• Tried their limited time concoction: Bewitched Blueberry Swirl Classic, not much special, a little pricey for the size. • Classic Vegan / Gluten Free cookies available.

Yelp
a go to spot for a late night sweet treat when in west campus. various flavors of delicious, soft, and gooey cookies. a little on the pricey side for college students but the cookies make it a bit worth it. service is always friendly and fast to serve all the hungry students who want a late night treat. (nicely open very late for studious students) ps. insomnia always tends to have deal and sales on their app/participate in holidays!!
google avatar

Yelp
honestly, best cookies around. These are some ooey gooey cookies that always put a smile on my face. 10/10

Yelp
We had a late night sweet tooth and have been eyeing Insomnia for a while. I love a good cookie and I'm so pleased to say that Insomnia did not disappoint at all. There was a bit of a crowd but the service was quick and friendly. We had the classic 6 pack with a sugar, chocolate chunk, classic with m&m and 3 snickerdoodle. I normally don't even like chocolate chunk cookies but every single cookie was good, especially the chocolate chunk. They were warm, the chocolate was gooey, I have no complaints at all.
google avatar

Barbie M.

Yelp
These are some of the best Vegan cookies I have ever had. The balance was oerfect you taste the salt, butter, etc but the balance is perfect.
google avatar

Cam H.

Yelp
I don't understand the low rating. I ordered their cookies on ubereats and they were so warm and soft upon delivery! My favorites were the chocolate chip and the mint chocolate. The chocolate was literally melting when I tore the cookie apart, amazing. They definitely stayed soft for the next few days. You can microwave them if you want some melting chocolate.
google avatar

Yelp
Yasmeen is the best. Her customer service is stellar!!! Me and Granny stopping by Insomnia for a late night cookie session(ice cream). Excellent service once again by Yasmeen. Give her a raise please!

Yelp
oh insomnia cookies, how i have dismissed you for far too long. after trying too-sweet and too-over the top cookies at crumbl and other copycat places, i was not expecting much, even when my friends spoke highly of insomnia. we got a wide variety of regular and deluxe cookies. the brookie and triple chocolate chunk were my absolute favorites, while i thought the chocolate peanut butter cup was just okay. insomnia cookies (especially the deluxe ones) are quite pricey but are great for a fun chocolatey treat every once in a while.

Yelp
I heard some good things about this place, so I decided to give it a try during my visit. It was a small establishment, and it didn't have anyone inside, so I was able to get the cookies pretty fast. The guy seemed tired that we talked with but got our order done. They also had ice cream too but I didn't try it (good option though for hot summer). The cookies were definitely soft and chewy. I didn't mind the vegan confetti cookie and mint one. Other cookies were alright. I do wish they were cooked a bit more, but more my preference. It's not a bad place to give a try but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Yelp
Saved the gluten free birthday girl!!!! I showed up to the party w regular cupcakes only to find out the birthday girl was gluten intolerant! So I was able to place an order at 10PM on SUNDAY evening for 2 dozen gluten free cookies!! Easy to order, quick delivery and we loved the little delivery feature where it shows the driver on the move! Spectacular and will be order g in the future! 10/10 highly recommend

Yelp
I'm not sure how this place doesn't have great ratings. Despite what we read, we visited anyway and am so glad that we did. Pros: The service was great, kind, helpful and patient. And the cookies were amazing. (Warm, soft and super yummy) Con's: This location is in a college community, so it was a little crowded and a little grungy. Overall: we loved it, we'll be back

Yelp
Had to leave a review because I am craving these cookies a week later. I tried the s'mores, oatmeal chocolate walnut, triple chocolate, and chocolate chunk brookie. They were all really good!! My favorites were the s'mores and oatmeal chocolate walnut.

Yelp
Located by UT, Insomnia Cookies is well situated for late night cravings. As a cookie delivery operation, they offer an alternative to Tiff's Treats. I ordered the triple threat cookie cake online. Pick up was quick and simple!
google avatar

Melynda S.

Yelp
One of the better cookie delivery places in my opinion. They are not as sickly sweet as crumble - which I personally prefer. I also think they are better than Tiff's Treats as well. Double chocolate mint is my favorite flavor, the classic chocolate chip is also a solid choice. While they are definitely overpriced for what it is, and their delivery system is not the best (long wait times, or saying it "delivered" when in reality it shows up 20 minutes after that) it is the best delivery cookie I've had.
google avatar

Brianna Z.

Yelp
Insomnia's valentine's day menu is bussin. I would usually never pay more than a dollar for a cookie, but I'm a sucker for anything strawberry flavored. The strawberry chocolate chip cookie was pretty sweet, but yummy.

Amber S.

Yelp
Employees were nice and cookies were delicious warm and soft, the only down fall was the smell but that is it
google avatar

Ed S.

Yelp
Pretty decadent. Had 3 kinds and all good. Polite staff despite being very busy at 11 pm (insomniacs!) I'll be back!
google avatar

Tee H.

Yelp
Classic cookie flavor. M&M. Need to say anything else? Nope. Because that's all you need to know. AND that they're warm and gooey on the inside? Omg. Okay, so I said something else you needed to know. But worth it. Keep an eye out for their marketing specials because there's always opportunities to grab a free one if you've never tried. Oh, didn't I say more than I said at the beginning? Oops. Worth it.
google avatar

Dimples_ B.

Yelp
The cookies were top tier without a doubt and ice cream sandwiches were 10/10 since the cookies came out warm. If your the type of person to focus more on the food rather than service I'd say try it. Honestly the employees aren't super happy probably because they are working a night time shift but... don't go they expecting friendly service or a cool place to sit. It's more of a get your food and go.

Yelp
Insomnia Cookies was Amazing, As a Five Nights At Freddys Fan I was extremely excited at hearing that this Place would be partnering with them for the Movie with a delicious cookie like pizza with different cookies as a crust, Different cookies as a toppings, Cream Cheese Icing, Chocolate Drizzle on top and the one that I received was Delicious and the staff was extremely nice as well. I would recommend this place again for their delicious and amazing cookies!
google avatar

Yelp
Best cookie delivery in Austin! I recently decided to try insomnia cookies on ubereats for my late night sweet cravings and it was the best decision ever! Tiffs treats can be a tad too salty sometimes and the baked bear is not chewy enough. The chocolate chunk cookies and salty caramel was just the perfect blend of sweetness and chewiness. The cookies runs from $2.50 to $4.25 but totally worth it especially when you don't want to take the trouble to bake a ton of cookies and get fat.
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
While they were out of the peanut butter cookies when I arrived (granted it was after 7:30), I'd still say they're a 5/5 cookie spot. The service was splendid, easy-ish parking and the cookies that I did have, were phenomenal. Gimme S'Mo!
google avatar

Yelp
Since its inception, Insomnia Cookies has been slowly increasing its vegan options and I am all here for it! As of my visit today, they had four vegan cookie options including: birthday cake, double chocolate chunk, chocolate chunk, and gluten-free chocolate chip. I wish they also include a vegan ice cream option so that I can enjoy their ice cream sandwiches too! :)
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
I went because of TikTok advertising, the cookies where good but not really really good. They where also much smaller then I thought they would be. Decent price.

Jane S.

Yelp
Incompetently run location. As of writing, they have been out of milk for more than TWO WEEKS. At a different point, they were out of CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES for over two weeks. Horrible inventory management.
google avatar

Yelp
The cookies are good... But that's were I stop the positive. Went on a Saturday night and they were particular rude. I had placed an order online and pretty much tried to let them know and the one girl working the cash register gave me a nasty look. Luckily another guy working grabbed my completed order. Not worth the poor attitudes. Other cookie places to enjoy throughout the city.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has satisfied many a late night craving for me. It's close to campus and easily accessible. There's a good selection of flavors--I personally like the chocolate chunk, m&m, and double chocolate chunk--and they have some pretty standard ice cream flavors as well. My favorite thing about this place by far is that it's one of the only ice cream places I know that's open late, so when I'm craving some late night munchies, this is always a go-to place for me! Bonus points: When I went today, the guy gave me an extra scoop of ice cream!! Hehe thanks kind stranger :-)
google avatar

Darian C.

Yelp
I love their cookies! If you walk in they're super fast about taking orders and the cookies are warm and soft and the chocolate one is just so goooey and delicious. It's great for late night runs at 2 am and satisfy your sweet tooth!

Chelsea P.

Yelp
DELICIOUS and open late! If you like cookies with warm ooey gooey soft centers this place is for you.
google avatar

Minnie L.

Yelp
We placed a pick up order on Grubhub on a Saturday night. They didn't even acknowledge our order until we showed up and asked about the pick up order. Plus some of the cookies we ordered were already sold out. We stood there for another 20 minutes waiting for them to pack our order but then a couple of other people also showed up for their pick up orders and they never get to completing our order. Eventually the wait had gotten too long so we gave up and left. It seems to me that this store is run by mainly college kids from the school near by. The staff are very unorganized and missing a bunch of orders.
google avatar

Lily P.

Yelp
They're cookies are amazing, and HUGE!!! I ate on mine for 3 days!!! They're buttercream frosting is amazing and I can't wait to go back! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because their cookies are expensive. 2 cookies for $21?!
google avatar

Rl E.

Yelp
It's cookies available late night and they have always been fresh when I've gone. Service is good and cookies are good as well. I'll go back as much as I can.
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
They required masks, and they ran out of cookies quickly. Luckily, I was able to order the last chocolate chunk cookie and an oatmeal cookie. The chocolate chunk cookie was warm, gooey, and decadent. The oatmeal cookie was hearty, soft, and chewy. These cookies are a great late night treat to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings!
google avatar

Nahiyan K.

Yelp
I'm a Tiff's Treats devotee, but Insomnia is a formidable challenger. Warm cookies that melt in your mouth, plus you can join a club for $10/month that lets you get a free cookie each day! I walk past on my way back from class, so it's hard to resist. They also have ice cream sandwiches and some huge special cookies that really fills the void that Moojo left when they closed on the Drag. They deliver on campus too, so if you are studying late at the PCL you can get cookies for the whole group. They did have wonky hours and some hiccups during the pandemic, but seems like they got it figured out now. I hope they start to do on campus cookie tables like they do at Texas Tech and some other schools!
google avatar

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Great spot for a late night cookie run! There are so many flavors and the delivery service comes with a tracker so you can see exactly where your cookies are at. The cookies are really soft and crumbly, but they are too sweet in my opinion. Also kind of overpriced.
google avatar

Xia B.

Yelp
I'm honestly not sure what I paid so much for ($26)- Realizing this is a city favorite, like Voodoo Doughnut, I'll try not to step on any toes. My favorites are the original chocolate chunk and the triple chocolate chunk. But I was surprised with how bad the vegan chocolate chip cookie tastes- so threw them in the trash. I make vegan chocolate chip cookies all the time and they are delicious - I don't know what happened here. The white chocolate Macadamia Was the kind you get in a plastic container in the store, at least that's what it tasted like. But I'm rating a solid three stars because the vanilla ice cream and cookie dough topping really hit the spot on a stressful day.
google avatar

Kaitlin O.

Yelp
This was my first time having the cookies warm and straight from the store and they were crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside- my favorite! I also love the wide selection of flavors that they have, with my personal favorites being the double chocolate mint and peanut butter chip. We walked into the store on a Saturday night, placed our order, and got the cookies really fast. They also do a good job with social distancing- only 4 people in the store at a time and everyone else must wait outside. A great spot that's conveniently located by UT campus and is also open really late (3am) if you're craving late night sweets!

Yelp
I've had Insomnia Cookies before from the San Marcos store and they are absolutely delicious. Therefore I had zero qualms when ordering cookies from the Austin store for a friend's special occasion. Unfortunately there's more than 32.5 miles difference between the two stores. I ordered more than a day in advance. The promised information about curbside delivery didn't actually arrive until 5 minutes before my scheduled pickup time. That's a technical fail unless you're in the 'hood already. Moreover, the information that Insomnia promised to provide for curbside pickup is simply a Philadelphia phone number to call. The trail on curbside was an email that led to a text message that led to me having to place a phone call. That's kind of pointless. By the time I saw the text, I had already spent 15 minutes on the phone (most of it music on hold) trying to reach Insomnia customer support. In that time, I was able to drive from Oak Hill to the UT campus area before I got someone to answer. When I got there, the store was dark and closed. I'm not sure what sort of existential crisis I caught the store in on the day of my pickup, According to their support line, they were opening late at least 15 minutes after my promised pick up time, which was 7 hours after their scheduled opening time. And they couldn't tell me when my order would actually be ready due to their circumstances. Sorry, but I'm the customer and I'm not dancing for your business. Sad to say, my plans were time-based, and didn't allow for me to hang around waiting for Insomnia to get woke. Their last-minute crisis didn't leave me enough time for me to place a replacement order with Tiff's, so that part of my friend's birthday surprise will have to be on hold for next year. I cancelled the order and requested a complete refund for my order. The charge has processed, but I'm still waiting on them to submit the refund. They emailed me a coupon for six free cookies on my next order, which I will probably never use. After all, they've already failed me once, and they're not exactly convenient nor am I or any of my friends in their delivery zone. There's something else I should mention about this company. Their customer service is provided out-of-state. When you think you're calling the local store with a 737 area code phone number, you're actually reaching an out-of-state service bureau. They've never even seen the store. They don't have a picture of the store to look at to tell you where it is (Drive-by hint: Google maps shows it to be a Subway store on the corner of 24th and San Antonio). That's great if everything goes well, but it added to the nightmare of dealing with this company in my case. One star for a failed first experience and sketchy (if kind) customer support. Logan tried to make it right with the coupon, but I simply don't trust them now. I'm more than a little concerned that they haven't processed a refund yet. Insomnia may be great if you go by the store and buy what they have on hand, but they need to have a backup plan to avoid customer disappointment.  I wouldn't count on reliable pickup or delivery from this location. Now that I read the other reviews, I'm finding I'm not the only one.
google avatar

Suriya S.

Yelp
They have great cookies! I really like the salted carmel cookie but it's not salty enough. They serve bluebell icecream and their cookie cakes are great for last minute birthdays. The staff is also always really nice and helpful

Yelp
I placed an order through Doordash. First major problem is that this store "delivers their own orders" so I'm unable to track my order thru DD and I'm unable to see my driver's contact info, all because Insomnia thinks it's a good idea to handle their own orders. So I'm waiting on my order when all of a sudden I get a random text that says "I'm here's". No proper text to identify who they are because when Insomnia chooses to deliver their own cookies you get a really unprofessional driver engaging you with texts that seem random and out of place. I ended up calling the driver because he claimed to not know my address (which is a problem that all of my drivers for Insomnia claim to have), I told him to read the receipt for my address because I know how to do his job better than him. He eventually delivered my items by standing the box upright on my front gate instead of handing it to me like I instructed in the app (again, this is only a problem because Insomnia thinks it's a good idea to handle their own deliveries). I was never notified that my order was actually delivered and the driver never let me know that they found my place, and I wasn't able to track any of this because why? Because Insomnia thinks it's a good idea to deliver their own cookies. I then contact the store and spoke with a leader named Melissa to let her know how terrible of a delivery system they have and how my driver didn't know what he was doing. Melissa proceeded to blame Postmates and Uber because even though Insomnia claims to deliver their own cookies they actually outsource delivery duties to Postmates and Uber. I explained how no other business on DD has opted to handle their own deliveries and how Insomnia has made a choice to proceed with a flawed system is Insomnia's fault, not Postmates or Uber. This apparently is too complex of a situation for Melissa to wrap her brain around because she responded with "I don't get paid enough to know who's fault it is", she then went on to defend the driver who worked for Uber, saying that I'm asking too much of the driver and that I probably didn't tip so the service I received was satisfactory. Wow!!!! This store sucks. I've ordered 3x from this store and it gets worse and worse every single time. I'M TOTALLY DONE WITH THIS INEPT STORE, THEIR INEPT DELIVERY SYSTEM, THEIR OUTSOURCED GARBAGE

Yelp
I received the holiday cookie decorating kit from Insomnia. It came with sugar and snicker doodle cookies. They taste was just OK. The toppings included: icing, peppermint, marshmallows, dots, food coloring gel, a spatula and a knife to spread the icing. Hopefully I'm not leaving anything out. My daughter and I had fun decorating cookies just for fun. And since we had a sick family member in the hospital, we made some "get well" cookies and sent her a pic. It not the same thing as sending them to her to enjoy. But it's the thought that counts!:-)
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
Pulled up around 11:10 still closed. Tiktok says they are superior over crumbl. But crumble opens on time. I'll try again in a few days and hopefully have an updated review on these alleged best cookies
google avatar

Nicholas W.

Yelp
The cookies are great, the prices are not. Gave 3 stars because their desserts are good but I won't go again. The good: the cookies come out warm, and they objectively taste good (can't go wrong with that much sugar and butter). The bad: I paid $1.79 for a single, extremely average-sized cookie. The ugly: This was the only thing on the menu I didn't feel horrible getting. The deluxe cookies would've been $3.30+tax. The cookiewichs were $5.90+tax for a pitifully small half scoop of ice cream between 2 (again, average-sized) cookies. Using deluxe cookies would raise that to $8.25+tax. If I wanted ice cream cookie sandwichs, I'd just get a huge thing of cookies from Costco (I see a platter of 60 for $15.99) and a half gallon of Blue Bell (6 bucks).
google avatar

Shradha A.

Yelp
These were good reliable standard American cookies with few frills and flavors. Sometimes you just want back-to-the-basics done right and insomnia delivers on that expectations. Nothing to write home about but good enough to write on Yelp about!
google avatar

Cooper W.

Yelp
I was at an emotional low I didn't think humanly possible before I came to Insomnia at 2:50 am last night. Yasmine and Jamie taught me how to love myself and I have them to thank for the happy life I know I will now live. They each deserve a raise and the world
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
I love Insomnia Cookies. Insomnia is better than Tiff's. I love their raisin and chocolate chip cookies, and they're so soft even when they've gone cold. They're definitely a bit pricey for cookies, but I would pay for them over and over again because I've only had cookies as good in NYC. I really recommend giving them a try!
google avatar

Dave P.

Yelp
Three weeks later and I still have not heard a word from Insomnia. Hot cookies set on ground by front door with no notice to me equals ants on cookies. I guess owners care.

Cecilia C.

Yelp
Insomnia cookies are the best! They were delivered fresh and warm. What was so disappointing is how long it took to get the cookies delivered. Uber eats was our delivery of choice. It took over 1.5 hours to receive our order. Lesson learned!
google avatar

Tiffany P.

Yelp
Loved finding a place open late to grab an after dinner snack. We visited the location in OKC but figured I'd leave a more local review for my Texas friends. Salted caramel is where it is at so make sure to order that.
google avatar

Nasiah R.

Yelp
Nothing like a warm cookie! I ordered the double-chocolate chunk cookie. The cookie tasted pretty good. I'm glad I tried this place out now that it is finally open, but the prices were ridiculous. I paid nearly $2 for a small cookie. I wasn't wowed and I definitely don't plan on paying 2 bucks anytime soon for cookies. I'll be going somewhere else next time I have a sugar craving. I am giving a 3 star rating because I didn't get my money's worth and a tiny cookie of that quality isn't worth $2.
