I've had Insomnia Cookies before from the San Marcos store and they are absolutely delicious. Therefore I had zero qualms when ordering cookies from the Austin store for a friend's special occasion. Unfortunately there's more than 32.5 miles difference between the two stores.
I ordered more than a day in advance. The promised information about curbside delivery didn't actually arrive until 5 minutes before my scheduled pickup time. That's a technical fail unless you're in the 'hood already. Moreover, the information that Insomnia promised to provide for curbside pickup is simply a Philadelphia phone number to call. The trail on curbside was an email that led to a text message that led to me having to place a phone call. That's kind of pointless. By the time I saw the text, I had already spent 15 minutes on the phone (most of it music on hold) trying to reach Insomnia customer support. In that time, I was able to drive from Oak Hill to the UT campus area before I got someone to answer. When I got there, the store was dark and closed.
I'm not sure what sort of existential crisis I caught the store in on the day of my pickup, According to their support line, they were opening late at least 15 minutes after my promised pick up time, which was 7 hours after their scheduled opening time. And they couldn't tell me when my order would actually be ready due to their circumstances. Sorry, but I'm the customer and I'm not dancing for your business.
Sad to say, my plans were time-based, and didn't allow for me to hang around waiting for Insomnia to get woke. Their last-minute crisis didn't leave me enough time for me to place a replacement order with Tiff's, so that part of my friend's birthday surprise will have to be on hold for next year.
I cancelled the order and requested a complete refund for my order. The charge has processed, but I'm still waiting on them to submit the refund. They emailed me a coupon for six free cookies on my next order, which I will probably never use. After all, they've already failed me once, and they're not exactly convenient nor am I or any of my friends in their delivery zone.
There's something else I should mention about this company. Their customer service is provided out-of-state. When you think you're calling the local store with a 737 area code phone number, you're actually reaching an out-of-state service bureau. They've never even seen the store. They don't have a picture of the store to look at to tell you where it is (Drive-by hint: Google maps shows it to be a Subway store on the corner of 24th and San Antonio). That's great if everything goes well, but it added to the nightmare of dealing with this company in my case.
One star for a failed first experience and sketchy (if kind) customer support. Logan tried to make it right with the coupon, but I simply don't trust them now. I'm more than a little concerned that they haven't processed a refund yet.
Insomnia may be great if you go by the store and buy what they have on hand, but they need to have a backup plan to avoid customer disappointment. I wouldn't count on reliable pickup or delivery from this location. Now that I read the other reviews, I'm finding I'm not the only one.
