Philly’s Absolute Best Cookies | Eater Philly

"What began as a modest operation in CEO Sam Berkowitz’s University of Pennsylvania dorm room two decades ago is now an international brand with over 200 stores. The menu features nearly two dozen varieties of cookies, including vegan and gluten-free options (try the vegan double chocolate or gluten-free chocolate chip), nostalgic classics (like snickerdoodle and sugar cookies), and extra special deluxe cookies (like oatmeal chocolate walnut and s’mores). In 2021, they even opened the Insomnia Cookie Lab —a cookie speakeasy experience where guests can try never-before-tasted cookies." - George Banks-Weston

Insomnia Cookies lived up to the hype! The atmosphere was fun, and the cookies looked absolutely divine. My family raved about their selections, and the staff were incredibly helpful, especially when my kids were overwhelmed by all the delicious choices. They offered excellent suggestions and were very patient. Unfortunately, due to a severe nut allergy, I couldn't partake as all cookies are baked on the same pans. While this was a major bummer for me, I can't fault the quality or the service. If you're not dealing with a nut allergy, Insomnia Cookies is definitely a must-try!

Visiting the Cookie Lab was a delightful experience! As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by an exclusive menu that promises sweet indulgence. The service is top-notch, making it a perfect spot to enjoy some quality time with loved ones. The cozy ambiance is enhanced by music, and there are ample tables for seating. Plus, the convenience of having a bathroom on-site is a thoughtful touch. And let’s not forget the star of the show—the delicious treats! Whether you’re visiting solo, hanging out with friends, or spending time with family, the Cookie Lab offers a sweet coma moment that you won’t soon forget.” 🍪🎶👏

My boyfriend and I had such a great experience at this location! We went late at night, close to midnight, and the guy working in the front was so nice and super friendly. You have to give them the secret password (found on their insta) to get into the hidden speakeasy behind the bookshelf. The worker at the front said they had just closed up the speakeasy but that he would go check to see if any staff in the back would be willing to help us out. We were actually able to go into the speakeasy, and the staff in there were also very friendly. Overall, it was an awesome experience.

Thirza has great customers service. Love her bubbly and positive energy. She definitely made me and my daughter feel welcome and excited about the secret lab. Really loved this place. We drove all the way from NYC.

It’s a hot cookie summer in South Philly. Stopped in Philly on my way home from vacation. We wanted cheesesteaks and Insomnia was right across the street. Parking is terrible over there. Luckily, I was able to get a spot a half block away. The staff was mostly friendly. One worker seemed a little short on patience. I realized after a few minutes it’s because we arrived the last 2 minutes of her shift. Good cookies and ice cream. We got a variety. My favorite was the mint chocolate chip followed by the chocolate chunk which was still warm. Both were soft and fresh. The chocolate chunk was warm and gooey. We also tried the cookies and cream ice cream. Very creamy and tasty. A secret hidden cookie lab in the back? Say the secret password and the book case opens to reveal a secret door. The lab is in back, also available for parties and events. I would rate the experience a 5, the cookies and ice cream a 4. Definitely worth trying.

Please don’t get a milkshake they are not good at all. Not worth the $16 bucks. Other than that the service can be better I only rate it a 4 because the one cashier was really nice to me.

I loved my experience in this top secret cookie lab where yummy goodies are created both night and day lol I'm being silly but that's what scrumptious desserts do to you! The staff was super kind and I loved my cookies n cream shake with a ginormous chocaookie perched on the side. I'll be returning for more indeed.

Love the brand, the actual experience of custom cookies is meh. It takes 25 minutes to bake and when you order a custom cookie and you MUST buy it in sets of three. Also the milkshake machine was out when I went. :( Also finding parking in this area if the city is nearly impossible, i ended up parking in a drug store lot.
