Meg’s Hamburgers Oozes Old-School Charm in Pioneer Square - Eater Seattle

"Last Friday, chef Megan Coombes and business partner Lex Petras opened Meg's Hamburgers in Pioneer Square, where they’re paying homage to old-school burger joints with retro elements like cushy baby-blue stools alongside modern touches like fries cooked in beef fat and shakes made with high-end chocolate and coffee from neighboring Intrigue Chocolate Co." - Adam H. Google
Quick visit with my chocolate crazy daughter. Too many choices for my uneducated knowledge. Very friendly service and extremely knowledgeable people. Ended up getting some for myself, for my daugter and wifey. This is how to end a diet. It did not last long anyways. Lol.

Google
Huge chocolate person. Hands down some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had. The service is great and the staff is very knowledgeable about their chocolate and can recommend the best chocolates for your tastes or ideas. Lots of amazing chocolate from all over the world to try in convenient tasting bars and much more. Truly makes an amazing gift or to satisfy that chocolate craving.

Google

Google
Awesome place to try exotic chocolate chocolate flavors that come and go with the seasons, including herbal and savory flavors. They have over 300 flavors throughout the year and allow you to taste test them before you buy, which is super fun. And delicious, so hard to pick a favorite!

Google
As a Chocoholic, am always in search of the best locally owned and operated Chocolate place and INTRIGUE got me good. Meeting the owner Aaron and sampling most of his offerings was and is a fabulous Pallatially Orgasmic experience..wait till I taste the hot chocolate brew... If you are a Chocoholic, a chocolate lover, or Intrigued (double entendre) , do yourself a favor and get to Intrigue Chicolate either by King Station or up in Capitol Hill... Chocolate Heaven.. The also ship across the US..

Google
The best chocolate I’ve ever had and the company is lovely. I’ve placed a few orders and they always include a lovely personalized note. Plus it’s great to support a small business.

Google
This is a great place that has high quality chocolate truffles with interesting flavor combinations. They also have great hot cocoa and other chocolate related items. They also have a cool photo wall as you walk in and you can take a photo for free but a 3 dollar donation is encouraged.

Google
Had a long lay over in Seattle and found this shop wondering around. The owner was very friendly and help me pick out some dark chocolates which turned out to all be amazing. The Sobolo was delicious and had a very unique flavor that I recommend anyone to try out.

Yelp
I was near Pioneer Square and I was on this kick of getting chocolates from cities I visited for work. Intrigue came up as pretty highly rated and close by so I made the quick drive over and walked in. My day was over relatively early so I was there at a weird time on a weekday so it was dead quiet. Moreover, I was looking for truffles because they're small, easy to stick in a carry-on and allowed me to get a variety. They were out! Well, they were made but not cooled or cut yet. I was going to walk out empty handed but I got lured in by who I think was the owner's story about Intrigue and their approach to chocolate. He definitely had an approach to chocolate that winemakers have towards their products or a cheesemonger would have, where there's a respect for the raw foodstuff and a definite skill and care to making something else out of it. I don't know if it was a sales pitch but it definitely won me over and I walked out with a Rainbow Collection box as well as a few of the chef collection bars. I told myself I would take a picture of it when I got home but they didn't last that long.

Yelp
The two gentlemen who were helping us were very friendly and attentive. One of them was Wesley and I didn't catch the name of the guy in the back breaking the chocolate. They gave us a chocolate tasting which was fun, we tried 3 different chocolates. I think they are a bit too dark for me, but I love milk and white chocolate. I ordered the chocolate and banana pieces and they were so delicious! I have never had dried bananas before but it did not disappoint. Also, I ordered the chocolate covered marshmallow and the marshmallow was so soft and chewy and yummy! Glad we were able to stop in!

Yelp
Amazing staff and even yummier hot chocolates wow! It's such a cozy spot in Pioneer Square, where their hot chocolates are made with fresh ingredients. My friends and I stopped by before an evening work event and the girl working there was incredibly friendly and helpful in helping us with our orders. I ended up getting the oak milk chocolate with peppermint (iced) and it tasted amazing. It really is far superior than your mixed-cocoa packets. If you check in on yelp, you can get a free truffle from their large selection in the display case. Love it and would most definitely be back!

Yelp
Call me a grinch, but I do not like hot chocolate...unless it's from Intrigue Chocolate! This is the one of the best places for hot chocolate and CHOCOLATE. Every time I'm in Pioneer Square, I find myself stopping by Intrigue Chocolate. It's a small space that's inviting with the most patient and friendly staff. There are a variety of truffles in the case to choose from, especially since if you check-in on Yelp, you get a free truffle with purchase! And there are different, high-quality chocolate bars for sale, in addition to the bar they have where you can order your chocolate-y drink! Plus, there's coffee here in case you need a caffeine fix. In my most recent visit I tried the French Laundry drink and for someone who does not like flavored coffees, this one was outta this world! Although you should try the hot chocolate if you haven't already, the French Laundry is one I recommend for anyone who loves lavender flavors and needs coffee! The French Laundry is made up of milk, cold brew and lavender syrup. Simple but tons of flavor! There is a lot to intrigue you at Intrigue Chocolate! This is such a treat in Seattle and is one of my favorite places for chocolate. It will soon be yours too once you visit!

Yelp
This review is long overdue. I first discovered this Intrigue location a few years ago, while visiting Seattle from Los Angeles. We tried the sipping chocolate and enjoyed a chocolate tasting as well. We obviously couldn't leave empty handed, and purchased some lavender hot chocolate powder so that we could relive the experience at home. It was absolutely delicious.  On a subsequent visit, we discovered the Intrigue coffee shop in Capitol Hill. The lavender latte was what dreams are made of! Unfortunately, that store recently closed down. On a whim, I replied to one of Intrigue's newsletter emails asking for the recipe to the latte. To my surprise (and delight), Aaron responded with the recipe! How amazing is that?   Since then, my husband and I have been making online orders of hot chocolate and seasonal chocolate flavors.  Aaron remembered who I was and even added this handwritten note (photograph attached) to my last order. The customer service and products are wonderful. We're planning to be in Seattle in a few weeks and are looking forward to our next visit. I can't rave about this business enough (even though they're constantly ruining my diet!)

Yelp
I've been by Intrigue Chocolate a few times. The first couple of times was to purchase one of their many flavors of chocolate for myself or for a loved one. All of the flavors are very unique, bold and delicious. Yesterday I was really needing a cup of hot chocolate. I wanted more than just the powdery confection you buy from your everyday grocery store. I also wanted more than just steamed milk and chocolate syrup. When I walked into Intrigue the lady at the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. There were many flavors of hot chocolate offered by Intrigue. I chose vanilla bean and was also offered their homemade vanilla bean whipped cream. Worth the $4.95 for this decadent drink.

Yelp
We went out of our way today to find this little spot during our few days in Seattle, hoping it was the gem it sounded like in the reviews. We walked in excited to get a few chocolate bars and cups of hot chocolate on this cold day. I told the staff member (the owner?) that we'd read wonderful things about them on Yelp and was met with a cold "We don't have any hot chocolate or samples. We have retail on offer," gesturing toward the small wall of products. The tone was clearly 'buy your sh** and leave'. I can't recall ever feeling dismissed like that in an establishment in my life. We proceeded to spend $17.50 on a bar of chocolate and a small packet of chocolate bites, and skedaddled out of there. Do yourself a favor and spend your cash on the many chocolatiers in town who'd be grateful for the business, not bizarro snobs who've forgotten basic human kindness.

Yelp
Wonderful aroma of fresh made chocolate throughout the store. Wonderful variety of flavors available and staff is eager to share their knowledge of the tasty results. Highly recommended this chocolate maker

Yelp
This was a pleasant surprise... taking a walk downtown and I stumbled on this little hidden gem. Sundos greeted us with a great smile and a "Do you like chocolate"... she had me at Chocolate. She gave us a tour of all the drinks from teas to cocoas and ended with some chocolate samples. This place is amazing and so is she.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my time at intrigue chocolate. We had a team event first and the space at locus wines was so lovely. We then went over to the actual store and the selection is incredible and the owner is so knowledgeable about ALL things chocolate. The amount of care that is put into the product and packaging is noticeable and not only did I buy things for myself but also perfect for gift giving! I highly recommend intrigue chocolate as a wonderful team building activity or just for some fun out on your own or with friends!

Yelp
Found this place on accident. We did the chocolate tasting which was delicious!! Every chocolate piece was so unique and great in its own way. Sundos was super helpful and fun telling us about each chocolate. Also she took the time to make my mocha horchata perfectly with love!! This is a great little place I definitely recommend to come to. Also the tea is AMAZING!!! Tastes creamy like butter... just try it.

Yelp
Tried the lavender chocolate, not a fan. 70% super dark and more like eating a dark chocolate baking bar with zero sugar. Everyone has different tastes so if that is up your alley, go check it out. If I had known it was that dark, I wouldn't have made a purchase. Intrigue is a small shop that sells specialty chocolates and they change the flavors often. The one guy working was a really strong salesman, pushing his wares heavily. None of the flavors spoke to me and/or had alcohol or coffee in them, which I don't care for either. Go see Intrigue if you're a super dark chocolate lover.

Yelp
More than just a hip place with good chocolate, it's a learning experience in itself. Seriously did not know there was a difference between hot chocolate, hot cocoa and sipping chocolate. I also realized that theres a huge difference between eating chocolate, smelling the chocolate before eating it, and smelling the chocolate before and opening your mouth to get more oxygen while eating it .. Both to help it melt and enhance the flavors.... Flavors are complex and hit at different times and intensities. Super good and interesting. Seriously try it out and see what you think. Flavors are all very good. Loved the mocha, pear, basil, Jamaican and orange one... My fav part was the free art wall. Such a cool Idea and another reason I'd make a point to drop in again, besides being able to taste the new flavors they brew up all the time.

Yelp
I had signed up for a Yelp Elite event here the other night. I had not heard of Intrigue, but after the event, I am a customer for life! Their chocolate is TO DIE FOR! They have special flavors like rumplemint (yes, like the liquor), basil, mocha, cranberry and more... if you want to know what flavors they are offering, follow them on twitter @intrigueflavors and @intriguechocola . Their hot cocoa is really good too! They have a lavender flavor, Jamaican and vanilla. I only tried the vanilla and I bought the Jamaican. It's not too sweet, just perfect. I bought two truffle bars that I haven't opened, but had sampled them... I was in chocolate heaven! Last night I ate my small cranberry truffle (good way to transition to sleepy town). The truffle bars are $9 each and the small truffles are $2. Hot cocoa is $12 a tin. They also offer flavored syrups (cardamom, hibiscus & lime, lavender, nutmeg and vanilla bean), cold brew concentrate, gift sets, tea blends, cacao beans (tried one, too weird and bitter with out the added sugar), nibs, hulls, flavored sugar (vanilla bean, lavender, rose & hibiscus, cardamom and lavender & loomi), Conduit Coffee Beans and even have a Truffle of the Month Club Membership. . . ( it's $264 for a 6 mo. membership or $525 for 12 months). I'll be coming in about once a month on paydays! I love me some artisan and local chocolates!

Yelp
This place is awesome - super expensive, but worth it. If I'd just walked in and seen how expensive it was, I probably wouldn't have bought much, but they know what they're doing, so they absolutely do offer a free mini-tasting, of small samples of 4 random truffles. My only complaint, everything they do is micro-batch, so the truffle I got to taste that I thought was the most interesting (rosemary) wasn't available for purchase. Also, their truffles are $2.50 each, but they have truffle "bars" that are 10 truffles worth of chocolate for $12, so basically half off, except those also run out super fast, so they only had them for half the truffles they had (again, including the one we most wanted to buy of the truffles they did have). Small batch stuff is awesome, they're just a little *too* small batch. Doesn't change the fact that this is incredibly big, bold, creamy, flavorful chocolate, with both typical and far less typical flavors (though interestingly enough, the flavor I thought would be the most interesting, "brown butter", the butter apparently actually just makes the chocolate even richer and chocolatier, it doesn't actually taste like butter. It's just like the chocolatiest truffle ever, not that I was complaining.) In addition to the truffle samples, they also gave us each a complimentary cup of cacao husk tea, which was also pretty fun, as I'd never had that before (it doesn't taste anything like chocolate, though.) You also get one free truffle with yelp checkin and a purchase.

Yelp
My husband's company hosted a virtual chocolate tasting event through Intrigue chocolate. The chocolatier walked us through all the steps on how to actually taste the chocolates. He also provided a description of how their chocolates were made and what kind of ingredients they use to make the chocolates. I loved all their chocolates except one or two due to personal preference. Their chocolates literally melt in the mouth. Loved it
google avatar

Ron M.

Yelp
This wonderful chocolatier is dangerously close to my office in Pioneer Square! They have a great selection of non-traditional flavors/pairings that you would not find at other shops in the city. I stop by on a semi-regular basis to see what is available. Their website is always up to date also! Truffle bars are a great deal at $9, but keep an eye out for BOGO deals for chocolate that is coming up on their expiration dates.

Yelp
A true gem of Seattle. We walked in and I promptly told her it was our first time and we didn't know what we were doing. She was super nice and friendly and immediately started a tasting. DO A TASTING! We tried 5 crazy chocolates, paired with chocolate tea-- for free!! She explained everything to us as she went and it was just a really cool experience. The raspberry/cream tasted exactly like a jolly rancher! It was like Willa Wonka up in there. I ordered a hot chocolate with vanilla and WOW! It was so incredibly potent. I have never had anything like that (in a good way). Also, surprise, their whipped cream is incredible too. They actually had a ton of yummy sounding drinks! Some even used coffee from a local roaster which is a win in my book. After trying the cocoa Husk Tea during the tasting we had to buy a bag ($4). It was all of the flavor of chocolate without any sweetness or bitterness. I don't know how else to describe it. Just try it! We bought the Chef's Collection ($24) which is 12 of the chocolatier's favorite truffles. We said we were traveling with it and she put it (for no extra charge) in an insulated package with an ice pack! She said it would keep in there for 48h and told us a million ways to store it! They really just go the extra mile to make it accessible and fun. I can't recommend it enough! They also had a 'free' art wall which took $5 donations for wood mounted photos from around the Seattle area! We donated and grabbed a photo as well to remember our time. What a nice touch!

Yelp
Great quality chocolate with interesting ingredients. I suggest you share the sipping chocolate because it is so rich and powerful. They will cut the truffles for you.

Yelp
Who would have known that a place like Intrigue Chocolate Co. would have existed in the outskirts of Pioneer Square? As we looked around, someone from Intrigue offered us some free tastings. But this wasn't just any tasting. It was one chocolate after the other - rich, sweet, savory, herby. We ended up trying six or so flavors. There were a couple of flavors that we were completely blown away by, and decided to get some to take home... -Basil: For anyone that loves basil-infused desserts (me! me!). The marriage of basil and chocolate is a wonderful thing. -Jamaican Hot Chocolate: A complex mix of flavors - from honey to rum to habanero chilis. A small kick with the most fragrant of after tastes. Deliriously good. -Mocha: Sweet, deep and creamy. This place is not hype - Intrigue definitely deserves these rave reviews. So, so gooood.

Yelp
Seattle is blessed with incredible artisan chocolatiers and retail shops. Finally, I had the opportunity to visit Intrigue Chocolates in Pioneer Square. Lovely shop with items that got my baking mindset going. I can only imagine what folks can do with the wide variety of sugars and syrups with inventive cocktails. Really liked the counter person, she was very approachable and helpful in demeanor by answering my questions and brought items off the shelf for a whiff. She clearly stands behind their product line. I ended up purchasing the following: a bag of Conduit's Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Ghana Abaya coffee ($14), an 8 ounce bag of Intrigue's Lavender and Loomi flavored sugar ($14), and a dozen assortment of their truffles ($22). The flavors lean towards exotic combos, savory, and sweet: coconut paradise, mezcal, long pepper, basil, tarragon lemonade, cilantro and lime, chipotle and lime, blackberry and thyme, blackstrap rum and lime, bourbon and cherry, cacao nib, and pear brandy and honey. I tend to stick to gianduja, so this will be quite a stretch for me. I was given instruction to let it melt on one's tongue and not chew. This only cracked me up because it reminded me of a former senior manager who chomped through an expensive Italian chocolate offered. These hand crafted gems are meant to be savored. Make sure to pick up a stamp card, a stamp for every $10 spent. Once filled, it's $10 off a future purchase!

Yelp
I'd been here before when they made truffles so I was really disappointed when I learned they don't make those anymore. They had other things and I settled on some chocolate bars, though it was my second choice. I would have bought the truffles they did have but they were mixed with white and milk chocolate ones which I didn't want. So disappointed, for they used to make interesting and unique truffles. Probably won't be back unfortunately.

Yelp
Ordered a sparkling coffee drink while randomly stumbling upon this spot while exploring Pioneer Square. The coffee could have been stronger and more potent in taste, but overall the drink a refreshing afternoon treat. Also received a free piece of truffle with yelp check-in. The truffle was very flavorful and creamy, a tiny piece went a long way! Service was a bit slow, as only one employee was working as cashier and making drinks. It was no problem though, since there was only one person ahead of us when we went. Interesting bar counter where we could watch them make the hot chocolate and other drinks.

Yelp
Came here with a friend trying to buy some truffles, was offered a free chocolate tasting and I took it and it was very impressive. I tried truffles with rum, habanero, cacao nibs and other really interesting ingredients. The lady that was giving the tasting was very friendly and she patiently explained the unique features of each type of truffle. I decided to keep a constant and rotating stock of their chocolate.

Yelp
Interesting boutique st store tucked away in Pioneer Sq. Two young men run the business and made all kinds of chocolate truffles. We walked, walked up, and walked around to find the store. The samples really intrigued us. I like the chocolate and their spirit. The quality of the services was high and the prices quite reasonable. If you are a chocolate person and in the neighborhood, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Excellent service. Delicious. Crazy new chocolate experience. And an education lesson.

Yelp
This was a great chocolate find for me. I like trying local chocolates. The chocolatier was on site making creations. The shop had an open concept to it. Full view of the kitchen. The selection of chocolates were limited. Don't expect a huge glass display of their wares. They have chocolate covered marshmallows, caramels, and an exquisite chocolate called pate de cassis (so freaking good!!). This is a soft center jelly like filling. Not too sweet so it offsets the chocolate a bit. I tried a chocolate tea and it was good. They have sipping chocolate but I don't know if it's meant to be enjoyed in the shop. There are no chairs or tables that would encourage you to linger and enjoy your chocolates. They have shelves with packaged chocolates including Forte's chocolate. They collaborate together on some ideas. I believe this shop is a work in progress. They have their own bars. I'm not a fan of spicy in my chocolates but I'm "intrigued"by the hops and honey and the rosemary bars...can't wait to try my purchases!

Yelp
This is a small, super cute and unique, chocolate shop - from truffles to chocolate drinks. Come on in and enjoy a complimentary chocolate tasting! You start out with some chocolate tea and get to sample and learn about a variety of truffles. As a fan of dark chocolate and unique flavor combinations, this spot was right up my alley. And my mom loved the hot chocolates. Purchasing some truffles isn't cheap, but it's worth the money. And if you're just visiting Seattle, they will package up your truffles with an ice pack and everything so it all stays in an ideal environment. Great service and neat experience.

Yelp
If you're ever around Pioneer Square you HAVE to go here! It's a magically cozy little chocolate shop blasting all the good vibes. Our eyes were immediately caught by their hot cocoa mixes given all the unique flavors: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Lavender, Mint, Jamaican to name a few! We were sold on the idea of Cardamom cocoa and decided to order a cup to try. It was WONDERFUL! It felt like Christmas in July. We could definitely taste the cardamom - truly exquisite. She let us also try the lavender by swirling a bit with water, which I appreciated. They also allow you to smell from the tin to get an idea of the taste. Intrigue also makes really interesting flavored syrups (for drinks and cocktails) and flavored sugars - it's really innovative! If you're a cocktail connoisseur / mixologist I'd recommend checking these out! After purchasing two tins of the cardamom hot cocoa mix, we were also given two free truffles using the Yelp check in. These were decadent! Go check out this beautiful store in Pioneer Square and do enjoy the best hot cocoa you'll ever have :).

Yelp
Intrigue is a cute boutique chocolate shop in the heart of downtown Pioneer Square, serving eclectic chocolate truffle squares like basil and strawberry (all chocolates are flavored and come in dark or milk - no plain flavors). You can tell each chocolate square is made with love, the owner is really passionate, friendly, and offers free tastings! Also I liked Bourbon, but surprisingly I didn't like coconut ginger because it was too gingery - and I love ginger! Each chocolate is quite pricey - $3 or so per tiny square. Intrigue is for the chocolate fiends seeking quality truffles with a unique flair, ideal for a stop if you're nearby for a free tasting and as a gift.

Yelp
I might as well give this store my whole bank account!!!!! Their chocolate is sooooooo good. I wanted to buy everything, but sadly I have bills to pay lol as soon as I walked in, we were greeted right away. The store associate asked if we would like to try their chocolate tea and 4 other flavors of chocolate, UM YESSSSS PLEASE. Let me tell you, all their chocolates have different flavor profile. It's not one of those chocolate stores that just put different "ingredients" into the same base chocolate. They sell chocolate from different part of the world, so the flavor, acidity, and sweetness are all unique. I went to Belize's chocolate farm and tasted real chocolate, and this is not far off. Btw, BUY THEIR COCOA HULL. Taste like chocolate butter tea.
google avatar

Dana O.

Yelp
As people trickled in, Justin offered complimentary flight chocolate with chocolate tea. He was passionate and enthusiastic which made us all excited. They had unique flavors and ingredients from all over the world. These are people who really care! There are items at various price point and they give away tile art!

Yelp
This is my go to gift to bring friends when they're either visiting Seattle or when I'm visiting them. A yummy taste of Seattle. I love that the majority of the sugar comes from the fruit or natural flavorings they use. You never know what flavors to expect when you visit. The staff is always friendly. They even have small ice packs and thermal bags if you tell them you're shipping or traveling with the truffles. I also love the Free art wall was one of the main things and pulled me in when I first walk by.
google avatar

Yelp
This small Pioneer Square chocolate shop is a bit off the beaten path, but worth hunting down if you like free samples, tasty truffles, and cool wall art! It was a little early in the day when we walked in, but I wasn't going to say no when they offered a free chocolate tasting. They have it set up in a fancy wooden case and take you through a rotating selection of five flavors, explaining what makes each one special and what you're tasting. They offer a small cup of tea to cleanse your palate between samples, too. We really liked the orange and peppercorn truffle, which had a bit of a kick, and the loomi truffle, made with dried limes, which had a strong, bright citrusy flavor. You can buy small $2 truffles individually, or a box of 12 for $22. They also sell $9 bars, which are relatively big -- the same amount of chocolate as maybe 5-6 truffles, so it's a better value if you want just one flavor. They have a rotating list of truffles on any given day and they encourage you to check their Twitter feed for the day's flavors if you have your heart set on something in particular. The store also carries coffee beans, cacao nibs, flavored sugars, loose leaf tea, hot chocolate mix, and chocolate bars from other brands. You could easily put together a very nice gift basket here for a hostess gift or your favorite chocolate lover! My other favorite part of the shop was the Instagram tile art wall. Most of the back wall is covered with a mosaic of photos mounted on small wooden squares, depicting a variety of Seattle landmarks, Washington-themed images, or just fun and colorful photos. For a $3 charitable donation, you can take home the tile of your choice. I saw one of a local character, a guy who wears a coonskin cap and furry vest and has a long-haired shoulder cat, and knew it had to be mine. These would make a great Seattle souvenir and are worth a stop just by themselves! Sure, it can get a little spendy once you start picking out tiny truffles and fancy beverages, but if you're looking for a fun experience and unique flavors you might not find anywhere else (prune chocolate, anyone?), you'll find this shop quite intriguing.

Yelp
Aaron was awesome!!! Stopped here with the seattle by foot coffee tour. Tried the warmed cold brew with 1/2 cacao nibs and 5 different infused truffles. The wealth of knowledge and friendliness made this visit the best in my opinion. Try the chocolate cream with your coffee (or eat it straight up)!! Bourbon vanilla infused truffle was the best. If you don't go here, you're missing out.

Yelp
Bakhtin cute little place love the free art wall suggested five dollar donation definitely worth it for the cute little pictures on the wooden plaques. The girl and the guy that were in the store we're very welcoming offered immediately for me to try the chocolate tasting not knowing whether I was going to buy anything or not chocolate amazing especially if you like dark chocolate. I ended up going with a caramel real hot chocolate definitely amazing and delectable will be back for sure

Yelp
Based on the glowing Yelp reviews I've read, I'm not in the majority unfortunately. Intrigue was at the top of my list for must visits on my last Seattle trip. I appreciated the free truffle with Yelp check in (score!) and I adore the Pioneer Square neighborhood, but I didn't love their truffles like I thought I would. The store wasn't too busy when I walked in but there was a group doing a chocolate tasting so I had to wait a little bit since there was only one person behind the counter. No big deal, it gave me a minute to peruse the truffle flavors and the cool art wall (for a $3 donation you can choose any photo on the wall, which makes for a great souvenir). After the tasting was done, I decided I wanted a box of truffles and had a few questions about some of the flavors. Although the person that helped me wasn't rude in any way, she seemed a little overwhelmed since other customers were coming in and she was still the only one behind the counter. I found myself choosing flavors quickly because I felt kinda rushed like I was taking up too much of her time. On to the chocolate. I got a variety of flavors (rum raisin, raspberry liquor, coconut hibiscus, Jamaican hot chocolate, mocha, etc.) and I have tried at least half of them and...they all taste very similar. The flavors were so subtle, almost too subtle for my taste. The quality of the chocolate and cocoa used are top notch and I would still recommend them, but I think I was expecting more of a punch of flavor in at least some of them.

Yelp
I have a friend who looooooves chocolate. Obviously, when I see a chocolate shop in a new city, I stop by to get my friend gifts. Obviously, I needed to stop at intrigue because it was rated so highly on Yelp. The only problem was that I literally had 3 minutes before I was getting picked up. I ran in and asked the girl working behind the counter what her favorite product was. She explained that Intrigue is known for their truffles, but that she really liked the hot cocoa mix. I thought hot chocolate mix might be a nice change, so I scanned the display. There were different flavors, including vanilla and lavender. The workers and I had a pretty lengthy discussion about the lavender flavored hot chocolate. I'm not particularly a fan, but they both were and strongly recommended it. Unfortunately, I didn't know if the person I was buying for liked lavender, so I stuck with the vanilla to be safe. The girl working at the cash register was kind enough to package my present with a rubber band so that there wouldn't be accidents on the plane. Very nice! The chocolates are s little pricey here, but everything is packaged very nicely and I'm sure the quality is great. I would definitely come back to buy gifts here.

Yelp
What a gem! We were just casually sauntering back to our hotel when we saw this place from across the street. Chocolate tasting bar?! Yes please. We were so glad that we stopped by. This is a small chocolate startup of about 20 people who are truly passionate about chocolate. They make some interesting and unique flavors and are really hitting home runs on many fronts. While we did not like all the flavor combinations, we thoroughly enjoyed the clover and hops as well as the lavender. We also really, really loved their coffee hull tea made out of roasted cocoa bean shells. The resulting tea is very delicate with a hint of sweetness and it smells like warm buttahhhh. Someone please make that into a candle scent! The last thing we tried was their Roman Holiday drink - hands down the smoothest and yummiest and the most well balanced coffee drink that I have had anywhere and I have been spoiled by the great SF Bay Area coffee shops. Too bad the boyfriend and I only got one to share. It's a combination of cold brew coffee, milk, and house vanilla syrup. I will definitely miss this drink when I'm back in the Bay Area. Needless to say, we came out of the shop laden with their goodies. Will surely be back the next time that I'm in town and I hope this startup becomes super successful. :)

Yelp
I love dark chocolate. Intrigue specializes in dark chocolate. :-) The samples and accompanying explanations were very helpful. Even the "unique" combinations tasted surprisingly good. We liked all 5 that we tasted, and purchased Bourbon Rum and Chai chocolates. Milk chocolate and sipping chocolate also available as drinks.

Yelp
A tiny local shop making the most of a so-so location and serving an amazing selection of heavenly chocolate ganache truffles (with the all natural flavors mostly dusted on the outside), along with great chocolate drinks and a nice (but small) selection of some great craft chocolate bars. Who could ask for more? How about a friendly and warm staff that will accommodate your requests as well. Yep, they have that too. This place is worth a visit. In fact, it's worth seeking out--which you will probably have to do because of the wonky location in an area where parking is a joke. But your efforts will be rewarded. Once in the shop, life slows. Your taste buds can be coated by the smooth ganache truffles (this is the stuff that's inside the hard chocolate covered truffles you may be used to eating). The playful and creative blends of flavors are exceptionally executed. In the hands of others, these flavor combos might be absurd and overpowering. Not so here. The drinking chocolate also offers amazing flavors (I had lavender), and they can be made with water instead of milk if you prefer. All the ingredients, from truffles to drinks, are top quality. Make the trip. Your mouth and psyche will thank you.

Yelp
This is a seriously classy chocolatier! So fancy! The service was warm and friendly. I was immediately informed that they are currently offering tastings. This sounded great so I said yes please! He gave me five different samples. I enjoyed them all, but I think my favorite was the Ginger. When it came to purchasing, I deciding to pick something I hadn't tried. One Cardamom and one Toasted Sesame. The truffles are $2 each, but make sure you use your Yelp check-in to get one truffle free. Between the two Cardamom was my favorite as it burst with a little more flavor. But I also might be bias as that is totally my kinda thing!

Yelp
Delicious chocolates that come in widely unique flavors. They give out free samples, and they serve hot chocolate as well. The shop is small, but very artsy and fun to explore. They have tile art on the walls. Very cool concept.

Yelp
Was super excited to get to visit for the Yelp event. I was lucky enough to be able to sample about 5 very different kinds of chocolate. The imagination of these guys in making really special and unusual flavors is top notch! The quality of the chocolate is unparalleled. My favorites were the mocha chocolate and BASIL! Sounds weird, but you've gotta try it! Amazing! These guys really know their stuff and they're not afraid to try new things! I learned a ton from them!

Yelp
Came in late one afternoon to sample some chocolate on a friend's recommendation - it had been a bit chilly out so it was nice to walk into the warmth of the little shop. The shop itself is well-kept and simple. David guided the sampling; he was friendly, knowledgeable, and our interaction didn't feel awkward or forced. He offered me a cacao tea to cleanse my palette between tastings and we took our time trying different flavors. My favorite among the truffles was star anise, but my big take home was a jasmine green tea bar with Turkish bay leaf and lemon - yum! The shop also features a donation-based wall of free art - it was explained to me if you use a certain hashtag affiliated with the shop on Instagram, the owner will print and adhere the photo to a wood block for hanging in the shop and people can 'take what calls to them' - neat!

Yelp
The woman who gave us our tasting was incredibly friendly and helpful, she was very accommodating and gave us great insight about chocolate; Her energy was amazing, her knowledge about the chocolate-you could tell she loves her job and that she loved people. Now, The chocolate. The chocolate is the shit. Every piece was incredibly tasty, even flavors you wouldn't think would be tasty, were. It melts in your mouth. It was incredibly savory and sweet.

Yelp
Cute hot coco shop in pioneer square. They have loads of different flavors and types of hot coco. The employee was very knowledgeable about the options. We got one hot coco and since I checked in on yelp we got a free truffle too. The chocolate was so good but the flavors were strange. I really prefer a plain chocolate vs infused with spices etc. Hot coco was $5

Yelp
Wowee! The lady that works here is super nice and adorable. She gave us the daily 5 free samples of truffle chocolates and cacao tea which tasted like chocolate. She also says "boop" when she does things which I think is adorable. She is very warm. They have unique chocolates here like sage, rosemary, and other flavors. This is because the creator was a botanist so he likes to use all the herbs in his chocolates. So yummy. You get a free tiny truffle if you check in. They also have these free wall arts on their wall that you can take if you like, but you can give a donation too. I think that's wonderful. The chocolates here are quite pricey. You should refrigerate the chocolates if kept outside for more than 3 hours. Overall, very interesting and unique chocolate flavors.

Yelp
Stopped in while we were in Pioneer Square. Did the complimentary chocolate sampling (5 chocolates and tea). The woman who helped us was so sweet and friendly. She gave us the history of their shop and products. We tried the Jamaican hot chocolate, and it was unique but pretty tasty. They also had a cool wall of customer's Instagram photos to purchase/donate to a local charity.
