How Texas Monthly Taco Editor José R. Ralat Got His Job | Eater

"After college he seriously considered attending culinary school and even toured the institution that bore that name at the time, but ultimately did not enroll; financial realities like ongoing student loan debt shaped that decision and steered his career toward writing about food instead." - Amy McKeever

We ate here for lunch yesterday and experienced the new menu. $15 includes your choice of entree, starter, beverage, and dessert. The starter we chose was the Street Corn Soup. The flavor was delicious, but fhe soup came out lukewarm, but we ate it and didn't affect the experience. I ordered the beef tenderloin and my wife ordered the Barramundi. The beef tenderloin came out a perfect medium rare, but the fish was undercooked in the center. We replaced it with the Smash Burger option, and they replaced it quick, and it was delicious. Dessert was also fantastic. $15 is a great value for all you receive, and you're helping the experience and learning of culinary students. I'm sure we will return.

I was at the last Bistro lunch today, 4/21/23. I ordered the miso soup which was lukewarm, the swedish meatballs were to be on herbed rice pilaf and it was on plain white rice and the sauce tasted like white flour gravy. Meatballs were dense and no flavor of allspice or really any flavor. Our server cleaned other tables instead of bringing M out our dessert. I realize it was the last Bistro meal of the spring but it should have been the same quality as the 1st meal of the spring season. Not the quality t I've been use to in past.

Amazing food and great service! We went for the luncheon. Seafood cakes were great and the October's buffet was out of this world!

I guarantee you've never seen presentation like this! The food's almost too pretty to eat, but the taste is by far the best part.

Fun place, they need to invest in water treatment equipment... Ankeny water taste is not up to standard for a high end establishment like this.
