American comfort food & strong cocktails are served at a warm bar with a patio & vintage accents.
"Irene’s, a downtown Austin restaurant and bar known for its booze and drag brunches, will close its doors on Sunday, November 24. The lease for Irene’s wasn’t renewed when it expired in December 2023. Plans to turn the block — including Irene’s and next-door Mexican restaurant Taquero Mucho — into a residential high-rise building mean the restaurant would have to be demolished for construction. Irene’s parent company WIP Hospitality is looking to reopen Irene’s elsewhere. Ahead of its final day, Irene’s is hosting farewell events including throwback parties, bubbles brunch, College Night, and its final drag brunch." - Nadia Chaudhury
"The downtown restaurant and bar offers a menu of American comfort classics and stiff drinks, making it the perfect spot for a lazy weekend brunch. But one peek at the dessert display might have you lingering just a little longer for a giant slice of Irene’s unbelievably delicious strawberry cake, which is basically biscuits and strawberry jam in cake form. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Courtney E. Smith, Britt Hayes
"Irene’s is one of the best places in town for a laid-back but still festive birthday meal. This all-day place is ideal for a big group to hang outside, drink frozen margaritas or Aperol spritzes, eat some fancy toast, and potentially migrate to West 6th if the night’s going well. There’s tons of seating, and you can even order a whole strawberry cake (just give them advance notice). " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion
"This is one of the most convenient patios Downtown. The location is prime, and your crew can grow and shrink while the jugs of wine continue to flow and the snacky food keeps people from getting too drunk. " - adele hazan, nicolai mccrary
"When you first think of Irene’s, two things come to mind: fancy toast and that fluorescent sign. But what deserves just as much attention is their housemade butterscotch almond-cream coffee. Irene’s is a strong move for just about any meal or situation—and that includes a killer breakfast. Stop by their window in the early AM and go for the savory bacon toast to feel better about the fact that you’re on your way to work." - raphael brion, nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs
