"Orange County’s Irenia restaurant is popping up at Lasa in Chinatown on Thursday night, showcasing a number of the Santa Ana restaurant’s favorite Filipino dishes. Reservations and walk-ins are welcome." - Farley Elliott

"Sad news for Santa Ana diners down in Orange County: modern Filipino restaurant Irenia is going to close following service this weekend. In a letter sent out to customers today, owners Ryan Garlitos and partner Sarah Mosqueda say that they are moving on from the four-year-old restaurant with their heads held high. Irenia helped to transform Santa Ana into a standalone culinary destination, and helped to push forward a conversation about modern Filipino food that is still being had at places like Ma’am Sir and Lasa in Los Angeles." - Farley Elliott

"Named for chef Ryan Garlito's grandmother and muse, Irenia is a casual hipster hangout and local treasure for Filipino staples. The chef’s tenure at Taco María shows in the careful presentations, with plates that command a serious Instagram following. Adding to its group-friendly nature, the menu is widely appealing and prices are reasonable. Start with lumpia, Filipino egg rolls, served golden brown and steaming hot from the fryer. Filled with pork and vegetables, these crispy bites are accompanied by a wonderfully spicy vinegar dipping sauce to cut the richness. Don't miss out on dessert though, including halo halo, served as a tall glass of macerated fruit, coconut jelly and shaved ice topped with lightly sweetened purple yam milk." - The MICHELIN Guide

I came here on a whim but the flavors were magical. We got the melon salad (possibly seasonal) and it was super interesting in all its flavors. I personally wouldn't order it again but my friend loved it. We also got the pork shoulder with the pork blood and wow! It was so good. The meat was soft and the sauce was so tasty. I will definitely be coming back! They warn you ahead of time it’s fusion and fantastic. Service is nice too!

Fantastic! We had most of the entrees on the menu, and shared amongst a party of 5. Delicious and highly recommended. Pork belly, strip steak and chicken dishes were all incredible with the presentation and sauces! Casual dining in a clean cool vibe. Friendly staff and very attentive. Don't miss this place!

This place is a unique Filipino dining experience in Orange County. We had a couple lunch bowls. My wife had the pork bowl and I had the chicken. They were both an interesting mix of flavors, if a little on the salty side. (The fact that we started our meal with the fried anchovies appetizer only emphasized the saltiness of the meal) The flavors were distinctly Filipino, with a flavorful twist. I am looking forward to going back to try out more dishes.

We came here based upon previous reviews. The restaurant is nice visually and we were seated quickly. We were told the portions were family style, so we were thinking big portions. We were certainly misled. The portions were very small and for the prices, we felt like we were robbed. The food was good, but it is not really authentic. We had the adobo pork belly and it only included two pieces for $18. We also ordered the lumpia and it only came with two pieces for $4. As anyone who has experienced Filipino food will attest to, it is all about a lot of food. Irenia failed in this respect. At best this is a fusion restaurant. So eat something before you come, because otherwise without spending a lot of money, you will leave still hungry. How they have received all of the high reviews, I do not know. We were disappointed with our visit.

Irenia's food is pretty tasty, it's kind of a hefty price tag so be prepared for a pricey night out. The food tastes great but it feels a little limited compared to what you would expect from a traditional philipino restaurant. I understand it's fusion so it's meant to be a little different. Over all great taste but a bit too pricey. It may make sense if you are planning on splitting a plate. As a huge fan of bisktek I was thrown off by the cost of 33 for a small serving vs 60 for a dinner portion.... Maybe they can add an even smaller size for those that want to try it before committing to the price.
