"Zilker neighborhood coffee shop and bar Irie Bean is now closed. Its last day on 2310 South Lamar Boulevard was sometime this November. Owner Leslie Stovall confirmed the shutter to Eater over email, writing, “We were not able to come back from the pandemic.” Irie opened in 2006, serving coffee, espresso drinks, teas, beers, and wines. It had taken over what had been Swerve Coffee Lounge." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
Enjoyed the latte here. They only have paper/plastic cups, so that was a bummer but nice vibe otherwise. Not sure about the “organic/fair trade” claim - saw nothing in here to indicate that was the case (coffee bags didn’t say it, and some of the coffee flavor pumps were Ghirardelli, but they did have organic bananas- so who knows). You have a selection of hot and cold coffee, beer and wine as well as some food, mostly prepackaged. They have outdoor picnic tables as well with umbrellas. Everyone but us was on their computer so seems like the place to come to get some work done. We dug the music they had playing and it wasn’t too loud (weekday morning). Think they have live music as well. Give it a try!

Google
Came in, greeted kindly, ordered a cold brew and picked up a Thunderbird bar. The facility is cozy and the there is an easy-going feel to the place. My order was handled promptly and received service with a smile. I will definitely come back and repeat. I recommend this place if you want an alternative to corporate coffee. That and I like smaller coffee houses. Thumbs up.

Google
Coffee was too strong for me and almond creamer very blah! Lol it’s ok I still give 5 stars for nice patio and friendly attentive service! I will try something else from their menu next time 😁👍

Leah Burg

Google
Reallyyyy love this place! Backyard jams and chill vibes all around. Everything is always irie here!

Robert Cardoni

Google
Good coffee. Friendly staff. Get there early if you want a breakfast taco !

Madison Warner

Google
Love this place! Great patio in the back that is quiet and perfect for social distancing. Cold brew coffee is super and I would definitely recommend the breakfast tacos. Friendly staff 10/10

Google
The experience at Irie Bean is Austin in a nutshell. From the soft spoken, friendly staff to the worn hipster-esque esthetic, this place is more than a tourist trap. Although a little more than I’d like to pay for flavored hot water and a stroopwaffel... this is a great way for an out-of-towner to start their day.

Google
Busy road and a gem of south Austin. It is very cute inside and the coffee (iced americano) is not watered downed at all. Strong and flavorful. It is not acidic, it taste groundy. Fans of Colombian or Guatemalan will love the coffees here.

Yelp
Overall score 4.5 out of 5 Iris has a great vibe inside and a nice outside patio in the back. Great location The coffee, cold brew, lattes, macha's are great. Definitely a great Coffee shop worthy of checking out.

Bern B.

Yelp
I ordered a lavender latte and was super excited however when I tried it I did not get a hint of lavender which was pretty disappointing. Female to took my order was nice. Place was clean and had a cut patio in the back.

Katrina B.

Yelp
The cold break here is great, and the baristas are super friendly and knowledgeable. A quiet spot to study or work during the day, the have a variety of specialty drinks and snacks, as well as plenty of seating inside and out and good free WiFi. Open until 5pm, this is a great work from coffee shop option with yummy coffee!

Christine L.

Yelp
Wow inside is chill but outdoor patio and personal hammocks are the bomb and there's even bamboo and a weird large art piece you can step inside. Cold brew is refreshing and tasty flavor. So relaxing and funky and so Austin! Highly recommended!

Shashikala P.

Yelp
From outside IBC&W looks kinda old but as soon you enter it has that Austin vibe, unique interior, it's clean, they have a back patio too. Girl at the coffee was counter was cool, friendly and welcoming, ordered cappuccino, it was pretty decent, definitely check out this cute coffee shop

Lauren R.

Yelp
I love coming here for a coffee and to read a book! This small coffee shop has a fun vibe, old austin charm. I usually get a hot or iced mocha with oat milk and I'm never disappointed. The staff is always friendly and makes the drinks quick. Parking can get get pretty tight and hard to get in/out of the lot because of south Lamar traffic, just as a heads up, but I've always found a spot. There's outdoor seating, and small stage that kind of share the courtyard space with the tattoo shop nextdoor. It's a great place to hang out (when it's not 100 outside!). Love this place, will keep coming back!

Catherine M.

Yelp
Relaxed and unassuming coffee place. They have a cute selection of funky mugs, puzzles and local art for sale which helps pass the time while waiting for your order. The outdoor patio in the back is a gem! It's shared with East Side King which makes it super convenient to have your coffee and place an order for delicious food next door.

Tammy H.

Yelp
I think I've reviewed Irie before as I've been coming here for several years. The atmosphere here is so relaxed and welcoming. I can come and chat if I want or tune out the world and just hang out. Great coffee (of course) and the owner is fabulous! Quintessential Austin!

Ray S.

Yelp
This is an essential stop for me basically every morning on the weekends. I open Saturdays and Sunday; but, close Friday nights at my job. As you can imagine, caffeine is absolutely necessary for me to be engaging and on point while working; but, thankfully Irie Bean's Iced Cold Brew is a guaranteed way to give me the boost i need to have a chic fil a smile while working (not at cfa, lol). Love the small niche style they have in a sea of corporate coffee chains out here so every visit is a nice reminder and Sorin (sorry if i botched the spelling) is always super helpful and helps solidify the vibe inside as being chill and laid back which is nice compared to other places. Definitely recommend trying this Coffee shop out! Parking lot is next to chipotle so dont park in the tmobile parking lot since they are different properties.

Darren C.

Yelp
Very negative and uninviting vibe and atmosphere. My wife and I agree we would not return to this establishment. Cheers!

Liz N.

Yelp
Really solid coffee bar on south Lamar. They had so many flavor options that it was hard picking just one but I went with the cookie butter and settled on an iced cookie butter latte. It was delicious! Really hit the spot for an afternoon pick me up! Would def come back to try some other coffee options! But I would also beware of not parking in the wrong lot. Last thing you want is to get a boot on your car or have it towed!

Priya S.

Yelp
Ended up going here two days in a row because I left my wallet there lol. They were so nice and responsive when I reached out about my wallet. I initially got their cold brew with some oat milk creamer which was very good if you're a cold brew fan. The next time I got a hazelnut mocha half sweet and it was perfect! The workers are fast and efficient, don't mess up your drinks. They have some pretty cool drink options, even some caffeine free stuff. Definitely worth checking out!

Gabe K.

Yelp
I love this place, the baristas are all very kind. My favorite stop of any morning! Also some of the best coffee I get the bags too

Jordan N.

Yelp
If I knew what the word "Irie" meant, then I'd know straight up that this is a hippie hangout place. Which is cool, because it keeps in line with keeping Austin weird. And we're here to promote the "weirdness" of the city rather than glamming the influx of mass-produced chain franchises. Well, this place got the friendliness right. It has the vibe right, with hammock chairs out in the back along with a small stage for live music. It has daily specials like 1/2 priced wine bottles on Tuesdays and community events like game night. And yes, they serve wines and beer, as well as kombucha in the fridge - many of them being locally made as well. So what's wrong? Well, even though they get their coffee beans locally from Texas Coffee Traders, their selected beans are not good. It tasted overly burnt and bitter, even with the addition of milk for my cappuccino. I feel that part of the blame should be on TCT rather than Irie, because TCT should be focusing on providing all quality products, rather than having a large variety to choose from (if you visit their establishment in east Austin, you'd know what I mean). And unfortunately because of this, Irie also suffers. At least, Irie was smart to make sure she has more to offer than just coffee alone. Her image that she portrays will continue to allure locals and visitors who are curious of Austin's roots as the city matures.

Allison R.

Yelp
Great service and a lot of options. The shop was cool too. I got a sugar free hazelnut iced coffee with non fat milk and it tasted good. It didn't taste amazing, and the prices were high.

Nikki A.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee spot in Austin. I've loved it from the first buzz. The shop always has pictures or paintings from local artists. So, you can come hang out awhile. There's also plugs and WiFi which I find useful when in between appointments for work. Choose from coffee (iced or hot) or non-caffeinated lattes, like my supergreen latte that I got. That also have a variety of milks, regular or vegan. If you need a little snack, they have that too. Did I mention that all their coffee is fair trade and roasted locally? What's not to love about this place? It's so uniquely Austin. If you've been going to the chains, you're missing out! Find Irie Bean and live Irie.

Cameron N.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly and allowed us to sample one of their special drinks. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but I'd be aware of parking in the wrong lot to avoid being towed or booted!

Emily H.

Yelp
This is my new favorite coffee place. I love a nice smooth americano. They have super cute buttons and stickers for sale along with some food at the counter. I absolutely love the outdoor seating. There is plenty and it's nice and shady with cute decorations/art. There's even outlets outside so you don't have to worry about your computer dying. Both times I've been the workers have been so friendly and sweet. If you're on south Lamar or close definitely check it out!

Kaeleigh S.

Yelp
New favorite spot!! Checked this place out with a friend. Super cute hole-in-the-wall type place. The baristas are really friendly and helpful to those who are extremely indecisive (me). I had a iced tea mix, hibiscus mint and pomegranate green--as suggested by the barista man--and it was delicious! Super refreshing and fruity, perfect on a hot Texas day. My friend got an iced mocha with almond milk and it was just about the best iced mocha we've tried. It may even top Summermoon and Bennu for me--a big deal. It was a perfect amount of espresso vs chocolate flavor, not too sweet but not watery. Great coffee! And this place has an adorable hangout in the back, outside. Tons of seating and even hammocks! A great spot to come work or to talk with a friend. This may just be my new coffee spot!

Lucy C.

Yelp
Went here for blended and strong matcha in the past. It was weak and chunky most recently. Beware matcha lovers

Virgil I.

Yelp
Sad to see such a fine business go to decline. It used to be a lively local place for coffee and conversation...the bar seating lead to a powerful community of regulars. Now its run down cluttered and empty. Tge poor barrista looks miserable in her job.

Kandice K.

Yelp
You really cannot get more local than this place and I highly recommend getting there. Great Wi-Fi, solid coffee and very friendly staff. The art on the walls (and in the bathroom) is really fun. Low key and easy to park. Reminds me of the old Flipnotics on Barton Springs. Better music here though!

Shradha A.

Yelp
This is the quintessential neighborhood spot - pre-covid, they used to have so many cool themed nights and orgs weekly meeting. You can totally imagine this to be someone's living room and the atmosphere has that ease and warmth about it. The chai was missing the spicy kick I like but I will certainly return for a latte and so much more. This place is so unique and simply lovely.

Sydney S.

Yelp
Came here during the boil water notice so I can't comment on the espresso. However, the cold brew I got was excellent. The vibes of this place and very nice with plenty of seating and good music :).

Megan G.

Yelp
Such a cute patio!!! I love the hammocks! And it's nice bc it's enclosed and feels like it's not right off busy S Lamar. I got a iced vanilla latte, very good. Espresso was super fresh. Excited to go back.

Katie G.

Yelp
Great coffee spot! ATX hipster vibe and they have hemp milk lattes I saw that they sell CBD drinks here too! Would love to be back!

Lloyd B.

Yelp
Just had the best French Vanilla Latte I've had in Austin . If you're looking for a good coffee, nice vibes. This is the spot, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating

Faina G.

Yelp
I love this place....it's small inside but they have a cute outside area with ample seating. They make my americanos with steamed oat milk perfectly every time & they have an assortment of other plant mills as well. Whoever is working at the counter that day has always been super friendly with quick service, which lets face it, when it's that morning weekday cup you need to get in & out. And shout out to whoever named it Irie Bean, my daughter is named Irie & we stop every time she visits!

Kyla N.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop on south Lamar. I've been in a couple of times after class at sukha yoga, and it is always a couple of things 1. Not overly crowded 2. Not too loud and 3. Has good service (the girl who works the weekends is very nice!) I will say that the drinks have been hit or miss for me. One week the latte was great, another it wasn't. I had matcha for the first time and it was clumpy and bitter, so will probably stick to my regular espresso based drinks for the future! But I'm sure I'll be back!

Kelvin P.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. The coffee bar really is a local bar. Four people were lined up with their laptops at the counter chatting with the barista bartender. My smoothie was just Naked juice with ice, but that's what I get for ordering a smoothie at a coffee bar :/

Corinne E.

Yelp
Love, love, love the lavender latte!! There are a ton of coffee shops close by, but this has been my favorite by far. The staff are sweet & helpful. Especially if I'm feeling particularly indecisive (which is how I found my love for their lavender latte).

Florence C.

Yelp
One of my favorite Austin coffee shops!! Really love the friendliness from employees and quiet study area inside and AMAZING drinks. Keep it up irie bean!!!

Spencer B.

Yelp
Great staff and coffee. Stop here after Wast Side Kings every time. Please don't eat the sugar cookies. Need to make sure they have them when I come in.

Rachel G.

Yelp
This place is a great, locally-run establishment. All the workers are very friendly and it has that nice, neighborhood vibe. Coffee, beer, wine, and pastries/snacks are what you will find here. The outdoor area is definitely where it's at. Hanging hammock chairs, tables, and an outdoor bar all make it a chill place to hang out. East Side King is right next door and will bring food over to you to eat here. Come and check out Open Mic on Thursday nights for a great rotation of local talent!

Donna S.

Yelp
The best chai tea I've ever had. They also have lots of snacks that I liked. It's cozy, small, friendly staff, great art for sale! It's near my house so I'll definitely be back

Christina H.

Yelp
Sera, was very polite and helpful! This place has Austin written all over it. Very cool Decour and amazing keep up the good work and good job Sera

Hayley G.

Yelp
I've been coming here daily for around 3 years now (with the exception of during my 2 pregnancies ) and I certainly don't keep coming back because they suck. The sign out front that says beat cold brew in town is 100% accurate, and the baristas are awesome. Ben and Cera are my personal favorites. They're the type of people who make customers want to be regulars in a place. Like, I love this place so much that when I travel, I bring growlers of the cold brew with me because nowhere else actually compares to how consistently fantastic it is. It may not be the most instagramable, aEsThEtIcAlY pLeAsInG, fancy cafe you can find all over town these days-- but I'll take actual great coffee and badass baristas who remember my order and call me by my name over that any day.

Marcia R.

Yelp
Very cute spot but DO NOT PARK ON THE BACK SIDE that parking is for the plaza in front of it ONLY they will boot your car if you park there and then walk to the front for the coffee shop ... I learned the hard way

Manasa D.

Yelp
I can't not do a review for this one. I also can't about the food here (but I'm sure it's good) coz I didn't try any. Patio + hammocks + stuff for kids to play with + bar + east side king as neighbors. What does that equate to? Do the math. Patio = totally cool. Hammock = totally hipster. (Patio + hammock) = amazing. Stuff for kids to play with = win. Bar = easy way for parents to relax while their kids play. (Stuff for kids to play with + bar) = win win. East side king = great food. Service = A+. Add it all up. What does it say?? Amazingly win win situation. I docked off a star coz the margarita is kinda not very margarita like, and the restrooms remind me of public toilets in Miami beach. (No need to elaborate on that one. ) The best drink here is obviously the watermelon yum yum. It's freshly ground watermelon with moscato garnished with lemon. There's a lot of beers to choose from, they also have rotating. And of course, mimosas for you lovely ladies out there. I like this place the way it is. Easy, friendly and not trying to be cool. That's what makes it so cool.

Greg K.

Yelp
My local coffee stop, while staying in Austin for work, and couldn't get much luckier than to have this joint in the neighborhood. The building also houses some tattoo/piercing businesses and one of my favorite Austin food joints: East Side King! Irie Bean and ESK share a great backyard and IB hosts an open mic on Thursday eves. It's always well attended and worth the effort. Movie nights, trivia, a few other things all make this my favorite local day starter and finisher. The one complaint I saw on here was AWESOME! The guy who came up from San Antone, a huge fan of coffee and reggae and, to his bitter disappointment, they were playing Stevie Ray Vaughan. Despite the fact they don't play reggae 24/7, it's a solid place to hang out any day, any time

Tracy I.

Yelp
Love this place. Coffee is great and the backyard atmosphere is even better. There is always something fun going on out back. Some days it is live music other days it is a DJ. The flamingo ring toss and giant jenga are a way to pass the fun. If you are not feeling up for the game challenge, then just kick back in the hammock chairs and watch as others play.

Andrew L.

Yelp
Fast friendly service. Decent cup of Joe. Chai latte was delicious. Looking forward to my next visit for sure

Daniel C.

Yelp
Great "Austin" coffee shop on South Lamar PROS Coffee: Good cappuccino Environment: As Austin as it gets (hippie, "weird"), good ambiance Backyard: Live music, cool decour Music: Minimal and quiet (good for studying) Parking: Decent parking availability (don't park in 2300 lot nearby) MEH Seating: Slightly cramped seating (my table was wobbly and unbalanced)

John K.

Yelp
I'm used to going to Starbucks and getting my cold brew but here, their coffee taste much better. Doesn't taste as bitter or moldy as some places. Plus it's a cool environment and great to support local businesses. When I have to work for long hours on my laptop, I'll keep coming here.

Jessica A.

Yelp
Irie Bean Coffee Bar A relatively new place in my rotating selection of coffee houses. This place gets mad props for several reasons: open mic nights, coffee AND beer, super pet friendly. And super helpful (and cute) counter staff. The seating area inside isn't the largest or roomiest but the backyard more than makes up for it. Like the vibe of Fair Bean-maybe not the coffee house vibe for everyone-but a breath of fresh air for those of us tired of pretentious cups of joe. 4 out of 5 stars and I can't wait to go back. Try the Guiness/Espresso beverage (forget what it is called, "Irie Bomb" maybe...but MAN is it GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Lindsey N.

Yelp
Looking for something a place with an Austin vibe? The Irie Bean could be your new home. I ordered a hot chocolate and it was tasty. My fella ordered an Americano and he said it was perfect. The environment is very eclectic with lots of movement. This is good place to work, do homework or hang and chat with you friends. You can also order beer but we were there for hot beverages.

Patricia M.

Yelp
So weird! Are the other two reviewers talking about the same Irie Bean I enjoy going to? All of my experiences have been quite pleasant. After my second visit, the barista already new what I wanted to order. Now, that's service! I've also had several interesting conversations with one of the owners, the baristas and other customers hanging out there. The coffee bar is cozy and friendly. They have free wi-fi and plenty of power outlets which is a plus! Also, its dog friendly - major plus! I recommend this place if you want to hang out for a couple of hours to work, chat, surf....very relaxing and the music selection is most interesting (mainly depends on the person working.)

Jackson R.

Yelp
Irie Bean had two types of coffee on the menu when I visited there on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately they were out of both. A coffee shop out of coffee? On a Sunday morning? What's next, a video store without videos? I guess it might be understandable if they were super busy and ran out, but I was the only customer in the store. I was told that it would take three minutes to brew the coffee. I didn't say anything, but the guy at the counter could sense I was disappointed and offered me a large for a small price. OK, whatever. He acted unapologetic and tried to play it off as if it were no big deal. A coffee shop out of coffee. Happens all the time, right? I'd have been cool about it after that, except when I was served my coffee well over the three minute estimate he sarcastically said, "See, that wasn't so bad, was it?" Like I was a little kid who was scared to get a shot at the doctor. What the dude didn't know was I was then in danger of missing an appointment that was very important for my career. Thankfully I made it, but I didn't know that getting a simple coffee to go would be such a hassle. In their defense, I was going on a recommendation of a friend, so maybe your experience will be better. As for me, I probably won't be back. I found their coffee to have a good flavor and quite strong (which I prefer), but I like to take my coffee without cream, sugar or attitude.

Julianne S.

Yelp
$2.75 well spent on my cold brew! This place is definitely an Austin gem and I stepped in while waiting for a friend to eat next door. The people in there looked like regulars or like they were there to get some work done. Not a ton of dialogue or seating space, for that matter, so I took my coffee to go. But it's delicious and inexpensive so I will definitely return!
