3.5 / 5.0 - My friends and I were looking for a cafe for some coffee / tea and decided on Irving Farm because they have a spacious seating area in the back with a skylight. It was completely full, which is understandable for a Saturday afternoon, with a mix of people catching up and others on their laptops. Fortunately, a table opened up soon after we arrived and we were able to sit. Our table was in the corner and sectioned off, so we had our own little quiet corner, which was nice for catching up. I ordered the medium Matcha Latte ($6.25+), which was good. I also wanted a cookie or something sweet, but their selection of pastries was limited at 2pm. Perhaps, mornings are better for a wider selection.

All around great experience for quality coffee a spacious, clean spot to enjoy either some reading or Journaling time or a catch up with friends! Plenty of seating inside, a few tables outside. Enjoy!

Simply put, they've got delicious coffee. And they also serve iced drinks with cold foam. The vibe seemed to be great for co-working.

The time I went I was served a poor cup of coffee and service. I ordered an americano and a scone. The lady sounded friendly but took no care at all. She put hot water and milk in my cup then add in the shot - which is not the method for an americano. Then the scone was like rubbery on the ends and not even that good. Seems like she was overworked and trying to get stuff done with only one other person there. Not a good experience. Also had some issues connecting to my wifi.

As a coffee aficionado, I’m are always on the hunt for a perfect cup, I highly recommend their Cortado 😍– it’s rich, velvety, with the perfect balance of espresso and steamed milk, it’s hands down the best in UWS! If you love a cozy spot to work or hang out with friends, check out the seating area at the back with a skylight !

Cosy and chic coffee place with excellent pastries. The banana and chocolate scone was delicious, as well as the peanut butter cookie. Highly recommend. Paid 20$ for a latte, americano and the two pastries.

I would rate higher, but I'm tired of coffee shops, especially ones that charge a premium, only serving their drinks in to-go/single-use cups. Please, start using actual cups for your customers that wish to enjoy their drinks in the shop. It's an outdated practice from the pandemic, and it's very wasteful.

I don’t know what the deal with Irving Farm is. I feel they have a lot of corporate money behind them. Every time I go there is a barista that says the espresso is not pulling correctly and makes me wait 15 minutes which is time that I don’t have I think the service is really bad.

3.5 / 5.0 It's a spacious cafe with seating in the back of the store.But the cafe is full of customers who enjoy coffee. The staff makes coffee with great efficiency. It is recommended to have the pastries warmed up! What I ordered was: ・cinnamon cardamom bun ・whole wheat banana bread ・hot latte ・hot chocolate

This place used to be great, but it's steadily gone downhill over the past few years. I keep thinking I'm going on "off days," but enough of those and it's clear it's just the norm now. The biggest negatives are prices, which have gotten prohibitively expensive, and service, which is inconsistent and just unfriendly at times. Yes, it's New York, and yes, prices have gone up everywhere, but they've shot up here more than nearly anywhere else on the UWS. A regular latte is $6 after tax, and if you want it iced, that's closer to $7 (as an aside, I will perhaps never understand the surcharge for iced drinks; you get the same amount of espresso with a bit more milk, which hardly seems like it should cost 50+ cents). This also used to be one of the friendliest cafes in the neighborhood, and while there are some great baristas here, it can be very hit or miss with others. It's less of "oh I miss how it used to be 5 years ago" and more that it's started feeling like you're imposing on them by ordering anything. If the coffee quality or neighborhood feel made up for it that would be one thing, but compared to spots like Black Press or Solid State, it just doesn't feel worth it anymore.

I look forward to Irving Farm every morning I'm in the city. Best coffee on the UWS and the sandwiches, while overpriced, are still worth it.

This is a popular cafe in the UWS! It's got good coffee and pastries, though on the pricier side for sure (not surprising for the area). Unfortunately there's no wifi here, but I like to come here to read or write so that's no problem for me. I always see a lot of people here doing some work, reading or chatting as well. I've never had a problem finding a seat, as there's plenty of seating both in the front and back section of the cafe. This is a good place to catch up with friends or come get some work done if you don't need wifi.

I really love it here! The staff are extremely kind and the ambiance is perfect for working or socializing. There's tons of space, which makes it easy to come at any time of day. They're also open until 7, which is nice for an after work coffee.

If a business feels that it is fair to charge $6 for a tea, they could at least hire another employee to help the poor guy preparing orders for 60 people on a Sunday. Corporate greed is everywhere.

A friend recommended this coffee shop to me a while back, and I am so glad I finally got to come! It is quite spacious inside and would be a good place to get work done or do some reading. I got an oat cappuccino, which was good but nothing special in terms of the espresso flavor. The pastries looked really good though, so I would want to come back and try them! If I am in the area again, I would definitely bring a book with me to chill inside!

I was here before the holidays. Great outside seating! Irving Farm Coffee is a favorite of mine. I remember when it opened on the Upper East Side. I had a delicious Bacon Egg and Cheese Sandwich. I also visited other locations with my Yelp friends. I love the food for some reason. The sad thing is that two of the three locations I've reviewed closed. They were closer to home than this one on the Upper West Side. The third location I've been to is in Gramercy Park and I didn't care for that one. It's too small a space. So here I am on the Upper West Side at 79th Street praying this location in my old neighborhood stays open. I can't visit as frequently. It's the same delicious coffee and pastries. I like the vibe here and employees are nice as always. I'm recommending.....

A great little coffee shop on the Upper West Side. Their Cinnamon Cardamom Bun is awesome, though messy, and goes well with their hot peppermint tea. Their croissants looked incredible, too. Lots of people were sitting in here to work on their laptops. I had a business meeting here for over an hour, and it was a great place to chat.

The hubby and I needed a caffeine fix and added Irving Farm to our list of roasters to check out during our most recent trip to NY. The shop was way bigger than I thought it would be and had plenty of seating inside. It's a long, narrow shop on the upper west side that you walk downstairs to get to. There's seating in the front of the shop and then more seating and a long table in the back of the shop. The hubby ordered a hot drip coffee while I did a double espresso and grabbed a bag of their beans while I was at it. The coffee was carefully crafted and results were smooth and no bitterness to them. Next time you're there, stop in or check them out online and order some beans and merch from them.

Lack luster and expensive in my option. I was struggling to decide what I wanted and the baristas suggested the matcha (their favorite). Is that a red flag for a coffee shop? Went with a cortado, it was really good. Wish they had flavors listed on their menu as someone after me ordered a maple latte and I would have loved to do a maple americano. Sandwich was fine, but the bacon was cold and the cheese was scarce so it was just plain old eggs and cold bacon on a warm bun. The biggest downside, no wifi! Came here hoping to work but after ordering and sitting down to set up I saw the no wifi sign. Ugh! Was able to complete a little writing and side work, but couldn't get down to what I really needed to get done. Big disappointment for me honestly, especially with an empty cafe. Overall a cute and aesthetic coffee house, but not suitable for what I need a coffee house to be.

What's with the snobby, rude staff? Pretentiousness is not a good look and so unnecessary! I kindly asked if they could remake my iced chai oat milk because it tasted very watery which is not typical when I order this drink here. The barista acted like it was such an inconvenience and walked away as I was explaining maybe more milk might help, came back and set it on the counter. I thanked her, no reply no smile just walked away. The remade drink was just as bad so I waited in line and asked for a refund, same attitude and very cold demeanor. As I walked away she took the drink and slammed it into the trash, it was such a weird interaction. I also waited 15 minutes for my breakfast burrito which apparently had been sitting out on some counter over by the kitchen area? When I got home it was not cooked in the middle and had to heat in the oven. Overall poor experience. Staff should drop the attitude and be kinder, this place never used to be like this.

first place i stopped at after i landed on nyc. now def do navigation because i literally walked past place. wanted a latte with a picture in it. theres simple syrup and raw sugar at the counter if you needed it more sweet. and of course a salmon bagel because i was in town. they dont offer lox bagel but they had smoked salmon and it was so good! (glad they didnt have lox so i ended up with this!)

Irving was ranked one of the best coffee shops in NYC by Lonely Planet unfortunately I have to disagree. You walk in to a cramped bar area where a crowd of people are either waiting to order or waiting for their order. There's no where to properly stand and no proper flow. The cappuccino was pretty typical to any other small coffee shop in NYC. The roast tasted more like a blonde roast than dark. Definitely on the mild side for those that don't like coffee super strong. The milk was also overheated leading to large bubbles in the foam and not the best mouthfeel. Ranked this place 3 stars due to lack of uniqueness, taste, and ambience.

We came to this breakfast joint on our last day in New York. This restaurant was near the hotel. We were able to pick up food online. I had the veggie breakfast burrito, which was better than I expected. Definitely recommend coming here if you like breakfast food.

I came her looking for a two things: a cup of coffee and a comfortable place to read for an hour. I got exactly what I was wanted and more. The drinks are quite good and the baristas are so quick! My wife and I ordered an oat milk latte and a cortado. Both drinks were waiting for us by the time we scoped out seats and set down our bags. The weather outside was miserable, exactly the rainy, January Sunday in New York that will eventually drive all New Yorkers to move to Florida before we die. Irving Farm was the perfect respite from it all. Despite the inclement outside and the fact that it was 3:30 on a Sunday, Irving Farm offered plenty of space and comfort. The commodious backroom provides an ideal place to kill time with a good book and a hot drink.

Lots of space and seating that's worthless since they have no wifi and receives no outside service (I couldn't even connect my hotspot.) Also, enjoy paying 8 DOLLARS for a mediocre latte to sit in a place that, once again, has no wifi.

I really love this coffee shop, the space is large with warm lighting. Ordering a cup of coffee & opening up my laptop. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon over there

What happened to this place?? Lovely neighborhood spot has turned into an understaffed mediocre cafe. I received very slow service at the counter (for a coffee and bagel) and a huffy attitude when -- after waiting several minutes -- I politely asked for a check on my order. Too bad, hope they their act together. I would be thrilled to revisit this and revise to five stars soon!

Lattes are over steamed ; not drinkable (airport location); Though the ambiance is welcoming and overall clean appearance and kind staff.

My favorite oat milk latte in the city is here, and my favorite study/working environment is here. So close to where I live and nestled in a very cute area. 2 good size seating areas - one in the front and one in the back. The seating area in the back has loads of seating with a BEAUTIFUL skylight making it the most perfect place to get in the zone. People are always working here so it is a great understanding of quiet coffeehouse vibes. Perfect marriage of coffeehouse and library ambiance!

Honestly an okay place to grab a cup of coffee. Looks cute from the outside. There is sitting inside, but all the tables were taken when we came in on a Sunday around lunch time. To be fair it was raining outside, so maybe it was busier than usual? It did take a while to make our drinks, which we didn't mind. I had an oat milk latte which was alright, and my friend had a chai which she also said was okay. All in all, might be a good place to grab coffee if you live in the area or walking by, but not worth a trip.

The coffee was good and the service was ok. Was in the area and my friend wanted to come here because she liked the coffee. It was a Sunday afternoon and it was drizzling so we decided to pop in here while we wait out the rain. I got the latte with whole milk. Unfortunately, the place was a bit busy so there wasn't really seating available inside, but we asked to wait. Luckily someone left while we were waiting for coffee and was able to go in. There seemed to be a decent amount of space, but they might be following social distancing rules still. They ended up closing at 3pm. It's weird to me places close down on Sundays in a city like New York, but it's great for workers so they can have some real time off and spend it with friends and families. Overall, not a bad place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon

Good lattes, albeit overpriced for what they are. Still in search of the perfect cafe to work or read in, but this one is not it. They play really loud music for some reason so impossible to work/write/read. Honestly it's even difficult to maintain conversation with the level they keep the music at. The search continues...

Where is a really long line goes out the door street. Only one person working. Every seat is full. Only seats in outside. This place needs to pay attention to the place next door add staff and make a killing!

For me, Irving Farm has been a good cafe for slowing things down and escaping from the usual pace of the city. I go every few weeks for a leisurely coffee and an occasional breakfast sandwich, always with reading material in tow. Both the drinks and the food are great, and there are fresh pastries brought in from known bakeries. The menu is on the pricier side, in my opinion, so you'll pay for the quality. The place doesn't have WiFi, and my cell usually has poor signal, especially in the seating area in the back. I personally like having a place to go that forces me to unplug, and while I see some customers on their computers, I'd recommend this cafe for offline reading and/or good conversations with. My local Irving Farm is in Millerton, NY. I have gone there for years for great food, espresso & ambiance. But lately something has gone very wrong; the food has cheapened, the baristas seem inexperiened and the counter help untrained. Too bad. I won't go back.

Rude staff and my ham & cheese croissant had almost no content inside the pastry. Wasted my money and time by going here. The area is very nice though and the ambiance was okay.

Coffee is good. I ordered iced vanilla latte and it was delicious. Breakfast burrito was good too- they do put chipotle sauce so it's an Americanized version of a breakfast burrito but the bacon is LEGIT. Not too fatty, not too crispy, and just right. They have indoor seating area available towards the back of the store and it is socially distanced out and I felt safe eating there. They get busy most of the time so be sure to not be in a rush when you enter.

Weird, I'm told this one of the better cups of coffee in the city, cool. I'm in line thinking thus COVID thing is killing the place. There's one person working the bar, she looks tired. The more complex the order the greater the line grows! Hope the coffee is special

Came here on a Saturday morning to try their coffee since it was reccomtnded by a friend that lives in the neighborhood & while the latte was good, the terrible service did not make the $7 worth it. The girl was so rude & unwelcoming. What a terrible way to start anyones day.

Ample seating and well-spaced. Some surprisingly nice natural lighting for an underground café. Very quick service, but the coffee is expensive and tastes pretty average. Decent study spot as long as you keep in mind that the wifi is slow here.

I absolutely love their iced oat latte! it's kinda pricey but it's super delicious. they have brunch as well and probably will try that next time! the inside is also really nice, has a great seating area for those who want to dine in. will be coming back again!

Such a large space for working as long as your work doesn't involve wifi. They don't have wifi as they will smugly tell you if you dare ask. Also this is one of those places that tightly controls your sweetener options to syrup, brown rocks that don't dissolve, and Stevia. If you're diabetic and think Stevia tastes like medicine, you're out of luck! Splenda?! How low class of me. Just way snobby and the bathroom toilet was covered in feces.

Now I am learning to be a coffee pundit. Thus I went to lots of coffee roasters on my recent visit to NYC. They have pour overs, and many different varieties of coffees from all over the world with ingredients I would have never thought of (ie: peanut butter). I even told them what I want and they educated me a little, thanks for helping Irving Farm. I also love that they don't have wifi, which means talk to the people, or the person you came with or enjoy a good read. The environment is relaxing and hip for sure. They even have classes you can take to learn the genius of coffee. I really felt like this was taking coffee roasters to the next level, I loved it all. Plus we had breakfast as well, their homemade cheddar and chive biscuit with scrambled egg and my choice of guerye, was a perfect breakfast sandwich (it was huge and filling, look at my photo I added to Irving Farm to see. But it was very good and for $5.50 you can't beat that price in NYC. There are many locations throughout the city, so Irving Farm can become your favorite coffee roaster in NYC no matter where you are. Enjoy, I can't wait to enjoy when I'm back in the city again.

I was looking for a very casual coffee shop where I could get some studying in and have a good meal with coffee, and Irving Farm fit the bill. You seat yourself and the majority of people are in their laptops or reading. The atmosphere is quiet with a couple of parties having quiet conversations, and also clean with great wall decorations. I ordered the Harvest Bowl which was much larger than I expected, a great problem to have. Maybe it was the quinoa or the sweet potatoes, but I was stuffed and had to toss the last few bites. Seriously delicious, filling, and healthy. The coffee was also good. A large variety of options and they make their single pours with a Kalita. Hard to find many faults.

Made my way back to Irving Farm nearly 5 years later from my last review and while Covid's definitely had an impact, coffee and pastries are still top tier. If you've not been to Irving Farm before, you'll find that the layout of the store front is nestled down a small flight of stairs into the actual coffee shop. Because it has a deep inner seating area, from what I remember, the outdoor seating arrangement leaves much to be desired though is still about average for most coffee shops operating through a pandemic in NYC. Entering the shop, you're greeted with the echoes of what once was: a spacious opening into the coffee counter. Imagine this space cramped with small intimate tables and the sound of music and conversation and you'll have a better impression of how this shop can and, and by all accounts, should feel. I visited in the early afternoon on a Sunday without much of a line so there was a lot of space between the few people inside. Things still moved fast leading up and into the register despite the single barista behind the counter. The narrow space leading from the entrance to the register was cramped and make for an awkward shuffle as you inched away from those leaving the registers. I ordered a large cold brew and an Olive Oil Orange cake, both made the wait and cramped quarters worth the visit. Note: if you're looking to enjoy your coffee and treat but there's no available seating outside, take a small walk two avenues west to Riverside Park where there are benches galore. Much scenic as well. I'm not going to lie, I miss the way Irving Farm felt inside. It's a nice coffee shop gem in the heart of the Upper West and it's good to know that while this gem might not look or feel the same, it still tastes how I remember. P.S. Once you're up at the register you'll see a fridge blocking the further ends of the coffee shop; past this spot is a hallway opening up into a much more spacious seating area that could easily seat upwards to 20 people. When I think about this Irving Farm location, that's what comes to mind. Coffee drinkers, laptop workers, and food eaters alike in a cramped yet shared, communal space. There's a skylight inside here, a big rectangular block of light in the ceiling. You can make it out in some of the photos on yelp and online but, really, you really have to be there to see it - make sure you do.

Drinks where great! Food was disgusting and came cold. Cold eggs? For how much money? Embarrassing. They say they have a kitchen but it's someone throwing cold sandwiches onto a panini press.
