Isalita - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Guess what? The Mani Osteria crew is good at more than just pizza. Isalita is their Mexican cantina directly next door, and while the cuisine is different, the quality of food is just as good. Go nuts on Mexican food at one of the best new restaurants in Ann Arbor. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

11 Awesome Ann Arbor Tacos

"Isalita is the neighboring sibling to the popular Italian eatery Mani Osteria. Isalita features tacos filled with proteins like chicken tinga with crema and radish, carnitas with salsa verde, or rock shrimp and spicy aioli; tuna tostadas; quesadillas filled with pork shoulder and grilled pineapple; and a variety of margaritas and cocktails." - John Reyes

The Best Ann Arbor Restaurants For Group Dining - Eater Detroit

"Isalita’s elevated ode to Mexican street food features over a dozen tacos and quesadillas that are best shared. With a large group, that means everyone can sample a little bit of everything. The restaurant’s basement table seats 10 and is a great spot for a large group to escape the crowd." - John Reyes

This place has such a great vibe for a night out or even a formal dinner. The fajita was really tasty and the chicken tacos were also hot and fresh. Margaritas are very creative though personally find the classic one the safest and less weird. They are a perfect match with all the food! Quite small portion sizes for everything but chips though. Would've appreciated more for the price I'm paying.

We had an amazing experience here last night. Service was great and super friendly! The food we ordered was all flavorful and unique. We got chips with queso and roja salsa to start. The nachos with chicken added were such a generous portion, loaded with toppings! The steak fajitas were phenomenal. Great margs too. Can’t wait to go back soon!

Disappointing. The portion sizes were small compared to the price that we paid for them. Their chips and salsa trio was great, but everything else not so much. Ordered their Potato Quesadilla and it was super salty. The Mango Habanero Margarita was sour. Our server was pleasant and so was the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Authentic Mexican food with large variety, great combinations, and so tasty. Service was friendly and super fast. We’ll definitely be back.

The mushroom empanandas, shrimp & fish tacos, and pico was so delicious and fresh. All of the food was outstanding and so was the service. The only issue was the steak quesadilla was very small.

Lively and friendly place for fusion Mexican, or new and unique interpretations threof, food! All dishes were surprising as each of them were not one may expect from typical run-of-the-mill Mexican restaurants! The most surprising dish, for me, was the al pastor -- it was a slab of, I guess, pork and other ingredients, making it look like a piece of SPAM but with al Pastor flavor. This place is like a "tapas" restaurant, i.e., Mexican tapas, easily sharable with table mates, enabling tasting of many different dishes. That's basically what we did even with half (3) of us were vegetarians. The food was quite tasty in most cases -- Nachos, ribs, carnitas, various vegetarian dishes. The Al Pastor, a pork dish, needed lime drops to cover the underlying pork smell. Perhaps they need to add some more spices when they are creating the "slab." It could also be caused by what I suspect would be a two-step process - cook the pork, grind/mix/form the slab, and then reheat to serve. Double cooking of pork (and chicken) typically leads to such smell. The fish taco was also not so good as it was "fishy," indicating the fish may not have been as fresh as it should or could have been. I gave 5 stars even though two items had critical mistakes as the rest were very good and as all were very creative take on Mexican food! Hopefully, the two above-mentioned missteps will be fixed by the time I return.

Google
Mexican food—that cuisine that Mexicans often say is mostly alien to them. I can’t get into the debate of what’s real or what’s fake but I can on what tastes good and won’t give you heartburn or rather myself heartburn. This gem of a place serves elevated Mexican. It may not be generous, genuine or the food you’re accustomed to eating but it’s nonetheless flavorful without making compromises.

Wandered in off of the street, wasn't expecting much- but wow! Had the happy hour nachos and they were so good! Not your typical cheap nachos at all. Our server Liam was great, definitely added to the experience. Will absolutely be back! Update- went back to check our their Tuesday Happy Hour. The service you receive makes all the difference. Our server was very dismissive, and we did not enjoy the experience anywhere near as much. Food was still delicious, but the tacos and frozen cocktail were both so small. I would have been disappointed had we paid full price for either one. First experience was great, second not so much.
