The Best Restaurants in Spokane, Washingston | Eater Seattle

"From island to inland, Chef Sin’s homestyle Asian inspired islander cuisine is a regional breath of fresh air. That air is filled with the scents of crispy Filipino fried pork belly, coconut breaded chicken sandwiches and fries that are tossed with a blend of seasonings and furikake and drizzled in mango ranch sauce. Speaking of sauce, when you leave make sure to pick up a to-go bottle of Island Style’s famous spicy pika pineapple." - Kris Kilduff

Google
I am so glad I just discovered this little Hawaiian Gem amongst the restaurants of spokane and I strongly recommend it from the start. The dining area is clean, doesn't smell bad. The variety of the menu is very attractive and the sides complement the main entrees very well. The Fried Lechon with Garlic Rice...Fire; The Katsu Chicken with Grilled Pineapple and Mango Rice...FIRE; The Ebu Ice Cream... Double FIRE... basically you can't go wrong with anything you order

Stopped by with the family for dinner and it was totally worth it. The CHAMORRO was so good, meat was literally falling of the bones as I was talking with the owner. My wife got the LECHON another good option and the kids got their noodles. Will definitely come back and will bring more people to experience this food. Service was amazing as well. Keep up the good work guys. Oh and I forgot the sauces that they have as well are so good.

We got engaged in Hawaii 2 weeks ago and this place took us back. The food was amazing and their playlist. It felt truly special. Large portions, I used my knife so you guys can see how big plates are. One is good to share. We ended up eating our other halves for dinner.

Google
We have eaten here twice now and the first time I had the Teriyaki chicken with rice and it was amazing! Last time I decided to try something different and opted for the Coconut chicken with grilled pineapples with the mango rice and Thunder sauce. This was an excellent dish, great flavors with plenty of spice. If you are looking for great Hawaiian food with a cozy Island themed atmosphere and super friendly staff who actually come out and make sure you are satisfied, then this is your place.

Google
The service was great, and the staff was friendly. I had the beef island noodles with medium spice, which was perfect to me, could have done without the green peppers but that is just me. The macaroni salad along with the cucumber salad were great sides to the dish. I tried some of my wife's lechon kawali and it was tasty to me, my wife would have liked it a bit crispier, but she was satisfied none the less. My wife said the halo halo was good but being Filipino not as good as home. All in all, everyone in our party enjoyed their food and we would definitely return.

I am the show runner for a tv show that travels all around the US and I have to please a group of 20. This was by far the most universally loved crew meal of the season. Definitely stop by if you love fresh quality food with great flavor.

Google
My family and I are in Spokane for a couple days and are staying nearby Island Style Food and BBQ, the menu looked fantastic already so I went to get some dinner for us. The food is absolutely delicious, authentic, and worth every cent, service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is very welcoming. While I was waiting for my food, the owners mom and dad struck up a conversation with me, and even gave me some suggestions on potential areas to move to out here. I left with some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life, and more importantly, new extended family. Thank you all for your hospitality, people and establishments like this one is what makes a community. I can’t wait to come back soon! I was too eager to eat to take a photo of the food, but here’s a picture of my empty plate. ❤️❤️❤️

Google
I ate a good chunk of my island noodles before I remembered I wanted to take pictures!!! The food is amazing, the workers were so kind. It was a full house, with at least 5 people in and out while I was waiting, and even with so many people to serve I got my food in maybe 5 minutes. I will definitely be back for ube and the tatiyas!!

Yelp
Stopped here on a road trip for lunch! Place was pretty empty and filled up as we ate. Food was hot and fresh! They have a variety of hot sauces for the food - all of them delicious! We got the teriyaki chicken and rice bowl. It was steaming hot and portion sizes were decent and food was filling. I wish the teriyaki was a bit meatier. Also wish they had the option to sub out some of the sides that come with the main dishes. Service was great too! They have plenty of seating.

Yelp
We came here while passing through Spokane to get a quick lunch. We came with a big group mid day on a Friday and were able to sit together. There was also plenty of parking at the location. The staff was very friendly and happy to help us with any questions we had. Overall the food wasn't bad, but I thought it could be a bit better. We tried the teriyaki chicken which wasn't bad itself, but I wasn't a big fan of the cucumber and the pasta sides. I would return but I think I would try something else on their menu since they have a lot of variety. Their fries were really really good.

Yelp
First time here. People were very nice and food was great. First, I had the special fruit lemonade and it was really good. More tart than sweet but not over sweet. Only drawback is you get just the one smallish cup, I drink more than that when I eat so this was a downside for me. I had the #1 chicken teriyaki and it was excellant. The mac salad was awesome with the apple added. My sis had the island noodles and they were also very good. Food arrived super fast and was very hot and fresh. The egg rolls were ok buy didn't ring any bells for us

Yelp
I have to be honest this food was fantastic. I was just traveling through Spokane and I saw this recommended on several Reddit sub threads. I have always found Hawaiian/Filipino food to be excellent in Washington state and I was not disappointed. The cashier was lovely and helpful. I ordered the island noodles. The cucumber and Mac salads were phenomenal. Both were similar in some ways to Hawaiian styles of these dishes that I've had many times before, but there was definitely a twist to both. The cashier then informed me that these are typical of Guam. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would return if I was in the area.

Alexandra B.

Yelp
This food is insane. It's SO GOOD. Do yourself a favor and go!!!!! I got the lechon, lumpia & calamsi lemonade. 10/10 on everything.

Yelp
We were driving through WA and SO GLAD we stopped at this place! The coconut breaded chicken was delightfully crispy. And loved the sides, especially the pineapple in the Mac salad. Also they have an amazing self serv sauce bar - we love sauce and this place was the SPOT.

Jean D.

Yelp
The teriyaki chicken and egg rolls were so tasty. Real island flavors. The pineapple hot sauce was so good had to buy a bottle to bring home. The macaroni salad was perfect. Just like my sister makes in Hawaii.

Yelp
I travel to Spokane for work and this will be stopped by everytime I'm in Spokane. The food and friendly staff earned this place a S&F RATING

Yelp
It's honestly SUCH a surprise to find quality asian food in Spokane! I had a pretty hard time finding anything good when I moved here last year, but Island Style will definitely be a new go-to for me! Island Style is a casual restaurant, but definitely emphasizes on the family aspect of Hawaiian food. Everyone working was friendly and energetic -- they answered any questions my friends and I had and checked in on our table often. You can definitely tell they've built a community in Spokane as they seemed to recognize a lot of other people dining as well! The food was amazing -- my friend and I shared the Kalbi and Coconut Breaded Chicken. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical about the price at first, but they give you SO much food. One meal could've easily been two different meals (especially for a student budget). Quantity is one thing, but quality itself was amazing. The Kalbi was juicy and tender, and the marinade was like that of anything you'd find back in Seattle. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the sauce and pineapple were great touches that made the dish much more well rounded. Their sides were great as well, each plate comes with Mac salad (which is always delicious), and Cucumber Salad! I normally don't care too much for cucumber, but this was a refreshing side that helped complement the protein! I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Delicious food and generous portions. I got their teriyaki chicken which was soft and well seasoned and my husband got their adobo. The owners are very kind and showed my son their fireplace that glows different colors which was very sweet. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Finally got to try Island Style Food & BBQ today with my Dad. The restaurant was very clean (even the bathrooms). The food was hot, fresh, and delicious! I went with the Kalbi Ribs and and they both went with the Island Style Noodles. We were all very impressed. We also got an order of Lumpia and had to try all of their sauces. Would definitely recommend giving them a try, if you haven't already.

Jovita B.

Yelp
The food was 10/10 no complaints. The meat was well seasoned and tender, rice was soft and flavorful and the Mac was super good and had tiny apples in it which I thought I wouldn't like but ended up being the perfect touch of sweet and crunch. My Togo order took a minute to come out but they were busy and I could tell my plate was freshly made. The staff seemed very friendly and you get a lot of food for the price. Also my food was still hot and steamy after a 20 minute drive home. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Jacob S.

Yelp
Portions are worth the price. The chicken adobo was absolutely mouthwatering. They also have a mango furikake rice on the side that was fire emoji. Sauce bar was a nice touch. Finadene sauce went great with the pickled cucumber. Staff was friendly. Vibes were good. Lots of locals. Would definitely stop in again next time we're in Spokane.

Yelp
First impression - super clean and friendly. The food - so good! I ordered tofu Pancit Bihon which came with seasoned cucumbers (a bit sweet but yum!), and a little different macaroni salad. A standard Mac salad that had sliced apple and pineapple. Delicious. 3 people in our group had the Kahlbi ribs and they said they were great. They also have a coconut pita like bread that was unique and very good. I loved that their sauce bar explains what each one is. I especially liked the banana ketchup on the Pancit. They also have nice (non styrofoam) containers with sturdy lids for your leftovers. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Walked in and we were greeted warmly by the woman behind the register! When asked a question she knew the answer to anything and then when asked what was better she would tell you!! We ordered and sat down and waited for our food. The food came out and it was very plentiful and the taste was even better!! My only regret was not trying some of the sauces they had on the counter, but that gives me a reason to stop back in! Great food and great service!!!

Yelp
Very friendly and helpful in deciding food choices. Great amount of food for the price. Lots of tables and booths for a smaller restaurant. Order, get a number and wait for your food to be delivered to your table. You can tell they enjoy what they do based on the camaraderie between them. We waited about 15 minutes for food which came out nice and hot. The flavors of the coconut crusted chicken along with the mildly spicy sauce was heaven. The macaroni pasta salad and cucumber salad were awesome also. I picked the mango rice to pair with my #3 coconut chicken which was a good match...not sure I tasted mango though. We ordered two other plates also- #9, 10... Ana the lady suggested we also get an order of Lumpia- said we had to get some...she was a really good salesperson . We all really enjoyed our chosen dishes- the flavors and variety on the plate was great. The only thing we had issues with was the Lumpia- it was extremely salty to us. I could only eat one bite and couldn't handle anymore due to the extreme table salt- please reduce that salt and change it to sea salt . However that didn't sway us from eating it 5. We will come back if we come back through Spokane.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Very good! And big portions! The cucumber salad is very delicious and fresh, the Mac salad is also very good, the sesame and teriyaki chicken are good as are the kalbi ribs. Their fruit drink is also delicious! We had a to go order and they were quick and friendly! We've been back since and it remains a solid go- to.

Yelp
Oh my goodness peeps, listen to this. My better half and I spent some time in Spokane and well it's lunchtime. So obviously we found "Island Style Food &BBQ" on our quest to fill the void of our hunger. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with warm welcomes and some island warmth. We had many questions about the menu and the choices were fantastic. With a small island vibe I ordered the #2 Teriyaki Chicken with the red rice and the spousal unit (wife) had the #1 Smackin Sesame Chicken. Both dishes were fabulous and worth a second trip. Oh ya the Mac salad is fricken out of this world. So y'all do yourself a flavor visit Island Style Food & BBQ.

Sherrie B.

Yelp
First time here. Ordered the lumpia as an appetizer. It came out hot but i could tell they used bagged coleslaw mix which has an unfresh taste. Loved the choice of sauces. I ordered the pancit with grilled chicken that was accompanied by mac salad and a cucumber salad. My husband had the island noodles with beef. I loved the mac salad and the cukes were good. I loved the pancit but once again i wish they used fresh veggies instead of bagged. Probably coleslaw mix again. Husband loved his dinner. We shared a ube ice cream. It was good. Service was very friendly.

Angela P.

Yelp
The restaurant is clean, the service is friendly and caring. The portion sizes are ample and they have a wide variety of sauces. We ordered the teriyaki chicken and it was cooked well but could've had more teriyaki sauce, I don't really think I got any. The Mac salad had small apple bits in it, which I didn't care for. But the mac salad sans the apple was really good. The mango fries were absolutely delicious. I think the chef here has something to offer and I will go back in the future to try again because as I mentioned before, the staff was incredible.

Since our weather can't make up its mind we decided to go to the islands ... well not quite but the food at @island_style_food sure made us feel that way. Pleasantly surprised with this spot. Yelp
Their sesame chicken is hands-down one of the best I've ever had--packed with bold, mouthwatering flavor in every bite. It's perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. I'm usually not a big fan of dumplings, but theirs completely changed my mind. The flavor profiles are extraordinary, bursting with a delicious combination of spices and ingredients that made every bite unforgettable. If you're looking for a spot with incredible food that'll keep you coming back, this is it!

Rylee G.

Yelp
Wow where do I even begin... this restaurant is one of the BEST I've been to. The food is so delicious, the environment is warm and home-y, the staff is friendly and truly feels like family. We'll be coming here again and telling everyone we know about it! Here was the food we got: Coconut Breaded Chicken - Sooo good, my husband added the sweet chili sauce and he LOVED it! They offer the spice on the side too if spicy is not your thing. Mango rice - sooo delicious Kädun Mänuk (it is a chicken and corn soup made entirely with coconut milk, similar to chowder) and red rice (BOTH 100% GLUTEN AND DAIRY FREE)... AMAZING!! The red rice dipped in the soup tastes like HOME - so unbelievably comforting especially in this cold weather. Asian cucumber salad - so fresh and delicious... I could eat this all day every day!! Tropical Macaroni Salad (made with pineapple and apples) - very sweet and yummy! Lumpia (Filipino Fried Spring rolls filled with pork and vegetable)... need I say more?! YUM! and ... we cannot forget the UBE SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM SUNDAY ... vegan and dairy free upon request... WOAH! This hits different (in the actual best way). The color purple is fun but if you love vanilla you will LOVE this - we both were so full but could not get enough of this! Oh, we had fountain drinks and the soda was on point too. :) There were TONS of gluten free options including their sauce station where they used gluten free soy sauce. They were very cautious with my celiac allergy and made me feel very safe and took my allergy extremely seriously. They also offer dairy free, vegan, vegetarian... so cautious, courteous, and inclusive. Love it!! They do takeout orders as well as dine in (which we did) OH - and they cater!!! The best of the best!! Thank you Island Style Food & BBQ - we can't wait for MANY more visits in the future. (Not all food is pictured ... phone did NOT eat first in this case lol)

Cora M.

Yelp
The food was delicious, the venue clean, and the service great! We will definitely visit again!!

Yelp
Delightful place and had them multiple times. Love the noodles and pork belly, owners are so nice and helpful!
google avatar

Puppy L.

Yelp
Cute and clean. Owners and staff are friendly. I do not eat meat so the fact that they have vegetarian options for me is awesome! Very flavorful. The tropical macaroni salad was fresh and really balanced out the meal. We were to full to try dessert but I really wanna try the ube fries in the future!
google avatar

Shawn T.

Yelp
First time at Island Style Food and BBQ and I was very satisfied. Food was good and large portions. Ambiance was island feel with island music in the background. Coconut crusted chicken was really good. Service was friendly and fast. Restaurant was full and only took about 15 mins to get food.
google avatar

Rosa W.

Yelp
This was so tasty! We got there 2 minutes before they opened and there was already a line. I ordered the pork belly with garlic rice and it comes with a hearty portion. I was able to eat two meals on it. The pork belly was moist and flavorful and the cucumber salad added a nice clean flavor. The macaroni gave a nice creaminess but the garlic rice was fantastic. They also serve condiments on the side that you can add which add sweet, spicy and salty additions. My husband ordered the Filipino barbecue pork skewers and he thought they were really good. They were well seasoned but a little dry. We also ordered a side of lumpia which were great. They were freshly fried so they were very crisp but had mild flavor. You get three in a serving for $6 so a little pricey considering they're very small. The inside was very clean and modern. Everything was very nice and comfortable. Unfortunately at that time the lobby wasn't open as they were having an issue with plumbing. We will definitely go back! They provide fantastic service, a good product and a very nice Lobby.

Yelp
My wife and I were both amazed at the quality and look of the food, we even got to go and it was perfect!!!! Thank you for taking pride in what you do!

Brie B.

Yelp
The food is delicious!!!! Everyone was super friendly and helpful for our first time in. Gluten free sauce options. We got the kalbi ribs and adobo chicken. Wish this was closer to home and we would be here all the time! :)
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
Super super yummy. The Mac salad has some goodies in it which make it delicious. The cucumber salad is a nice light side. The chicken is hot and cooked perfectly. The rice is yummy and harmonizes the plate. Take advantage of their sauce counter and try them all. The spicy one is my favorite. Next time I'm going to try the kalbi ribs. Great service. Cool and casual inside with lots of lighting and a cool entry way!

Debbie A.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Polynesian food that is favorable. Prices are good and ambiance is a little rough but the food and service outweigh any negatives.
google avatar

Blaine W.

Yelp
Food was absolutely phenomenal!! We were immediately greeted by the owner as we entered and he gave us amazing recommendations! Cannot recommend highly enough! It's a must try!
google avatar

Deanna D.

Yelp
First time trying Island Style and it was great! The staff were super friendly and patience while I looked over the menu. It only took roughly ten minutes or so to receive our food and it was jot only super tasty but plated beautifully. Highly recommend!

Holly R.

Yelp
My new favorite restaurant! The authentic food is crafted to perfection Everything we have tried has been amazing. The coconut chicken, teriyaki chicken, and pork sliders were all on point! What a gift to Spokane to have this little gem in the heart of town
google avatar

Stas B.

Yelp
It was okay. I'm from Anchorage AK and there are LOTS of islander food there. If you know you know! Maybe I'm just used to their flavor pallet but this place was okay. Nothing to brag about in my option. I might've ordered the wrong thing too. Couldn't eat more than half my order because it got boring... nice portions and great customer service. Not sure if I'll go back but maybe try and order something different. Im white as they come and have experienced all kinds of foods around the world lol. That should tell you something about the flavor.

Min P.

Yelp
We got takeout, but the service was great. We got the sesame tofu and it was delicious, but we do wish we got more tofu for the price and how much rice there was. Overall, would order here again.
google avatar

Shinryu A.

Yelp
I am so happy that I have found this place! The staff are super friendly and willing to help you pick which food you want to try. The Lechon Kawali extra crispy and it was phenomenal. With the sides that come with it the cucumber and the macaroni salad and all the rice it was plenty of food for me. They have multiple sauces you can try as well. If you want the Hawaiian, Guam, pacific island taste then I highly recommend this place!

Dianna J.

Yelp
Food was really pretty good that I remember. It's been quite a while ago that I was there, but it was a positive experience.
google avatar

Aj T.

Yelp
We were always excited to catch the food truck at random outings, so we were happy to hear about the restaurant. It's nice to see filipino and chamorro representation in the area. Great food as always, and the calamansi lemonade is a new favorite.
google avatar

Leiza C.

Yelp
Visited Spokane for the weekend and saw that Island Style Food had our favorite, lechon kawali and had to give it a try. It was so good we went back every day for the 3 days we were in town! Lola's tropical mac salad reminded me of the mac salad my mom used to make and the red rice was LEGIT. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Hopefully we'll have a reason to visit again!

Malinda W.

Yelp
Island Style is amazing! The food is excellent and the service is very friendly. The coconut breaded sando is to die for- especially with the grilled pineapple. Huge fan of the garlic rice and the Mac salad too.
google avatar

Ellen P.

Yelp
Can't go wrong at this family-run food truck turned fast casual restaurant! The meals are rich in flavor and big in portion. One of my favorite items is the lechon kawali which is filipino pork belly on fragrant garlic rice w a side of mac salad (with apples and pineapple bits!) and tangy cucumber salad. There are fun sauces from Guam that you can dip the meats in if you want a little more soy sauce or spice flavor, but honestly to me they're already perfectly marinated and grilled in their own flavors. The saucy siomai, which is like dim sum shumai with a hint of cilantro and comes in five pieces, is a must. I recommend saving room for dessert (by grabbing a lid for leftovers--I've never finished a whole entree in one go here) because it's always a huge portion. We ordered an ube soft serve, which was rich and creamy, and the latiya cake, which was a little dry inside but it's new to me so maybe it's meant to be? Also, the service is friendly and helpful, really feels like a family-run business. I've already been several times but need to come back to try the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
This was very delicious the staff very professional. THE food was amazing the tofu coconut wow the taste and the ribs was so wonderful never had such good meat I will diffently go back for more. Wow it was so good can't say enough Thank you Kimberley Frunz

Yelp
I get unusually excited when mobile establishments get a storefront. I've been waiting to try food here for months. Several of my friends have shared pictures and excellent reviews. The restaurant was clean. We arrived right at opening so we had a lot of seating options. Loved how clean the sauce area was. I loved there was a sauce area period. We ordered 2 dishes. The wait increased due to the number of orders needing taken but we weren't on a timeline. We liked the house made sauces. The cucumber salad was a favorite. I really enjoyed the macaroni salad. We ordered dessert and it exceeded expectations. It was a huge combination of flavors and textures. We thought it was on the higher end for lunch pricing but as it's an all day menu it did make sense in that regard. The portion sizes were bigger than I expected or they seemed at first look. This restaurant is a winner.

Tom N.

Yelp
Came here for the first time today, and I will definitely be coming back. Really friendly staff, the owner Nick came to our table and asked how the food is and was just an awesome guy.The food is delicious, I got the number seven, "Lechon Kawali" which is fried pork belly, and it was delicious. Great place with great food and staff! Definitely give this place a shot, I assure you'll be happy you did!

Nicole K.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! The food is excellent and the staff are friendly and inviting. We will definitely be returning next time we are in Spokane.

Susan H.

Yelp
Food was great, highly recommend! Get the coconut chicken with the grilled pineapple and thunder sauce. So yummy!
