"The takeout box from Island Tings tends to overflow with gravy. So place a towel on your car seat on the way home. The Jamaican steam counter makes tender brown stew chicken and provides generous portions of it. Get it with rice and peas and even though there will be spillage, say yes to the additional gravy pour. One box is enough to satisfy two people, but don’t leave without a spicy beef patty as a form of savory dessert." - mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo

"Island Tings is a Jamaican hot bar in Miami Gardens that’s making excellent brown stew chicken, sorrel, and spicy beef patties. Everything is served in takeout containers, but their cushy booths and bumpy Jamaican playlist are convincing reasons to stay and eat. They’ll ask if you want gravy poured onto your rice and peas. There is only one right answer—yes. They sell out of beef patties around 3pm, so come before that happens. These glorious flaky creations have a sneaky kick and are too easy to inhale in seconds. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC" - Mariana Trabanino

I visited this restaurant based on an app. It was almost closing time but the app instructs you to come at specific hours. The doors were locked and entrance was obtained when the lady patron was leaving. Service was quick, food selection of various Caribbean foods was abundant. I bought 2 plates: brown stew chicken & curry chicken, both with rice & peas with cabbage. It may have been Caribbean but it was seasoned to perfection, just enough to say there seasoning. Overall it worth a try.

The food is decent. The problem is them skimping the customers through the 3rd party partners like “Too Good To-Go” and “Uber eats”. If uber eats offers buy 1 get 1 free on the large plates why are they (Y’ALL) sending these small kiddy plates to customers because y’all don’t want to honor the actual promotions giving by the third parties? The proof is in the reviews. This is the second time they’ve done this and i spoke to someone about it but clearly the memo wasn’t put out or they just simply don’t care. I ordered delivery trying to give them another chance but nothing has changed. This will be my last time. The third party just needs to cut ties. My plate is the first picture (Not even a medium plate)…. How the large plate are suppose to be is the second pictures (another customers picture & review). I’ve been to the restaurant before outside of third parties and that’s when they’ll give you the correct size plate but when it’s third party or discounted with a promotion they give you the tiny plates.

The stew conch with rice and peas with cabbage was not the taste you expected from Jamaican restaurant. It had no flavor and was bland. The jerk shrimp was great. However, the pasta was a little runny to my liking. This food was not worth the wait and money.

Food is average. And waaaaay to pricey. 2 pieces of chicken with a bit of rice for $12. Nah, this looks like a lunch special from Dutch pot or tropical oasis and pay half that. It's not worth the cost.

My daughter and I had a great experience at Island Tings, they were recommended by local people when asked about Jamaican food. The staff were personable and kind (see pic), and Dora and Boots were sweet young ladies. The Brown Stew Chicken and Jerk chicken were 🔥. My only disappointment was they had already ran out of oxtails for the day 😔. Other than that, we were pleased… all the way from California 👏🏾

I ordered the jerk chicken pasta. It had an unexpected sweet taste, but definitely wasn't bad! I love the after-kick it has! The spice was perfect! I loved how I asked for it extra creamy, and they didn't disappoint! The staff was really sweet and unexpectedly pleasant! (IYKYL) I'm looking forward to trying more dishes! Oh, and the establishment was nice and very clean!

Island Tings has long stood as a cherished cornerstone of the community, its presence a testament to enduring quality and dedication. Though my own patronage spans merely a few months, I can confidently affirm that this establishment is nothing short of exceptional. The culinary offerings are a paragon of consistency, each dish a harmonious blend of flavor and reliability. The staff, ever gracious and welcoming, exhibit a commendable ability to cater to patrons from all walks of life. It is this unwavering commitment to their roots and principles that solidifies my admiration. I find myself deeply appreciative of their ethos and eagerly anticipate continuing my visits. In time, I hope to have the pleasure of meeting the proprietors to extend my personal congratulations for their admirable achievements. In a landscape where many falter, Island Tings not only endures but thrives, its brilliance undimmed. I await, with great optimism, the growth and continued success of this remarkable establishment.
