Island Vibes - Review - Hapeville - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Island Vibes is a mostly takeout Jamaican spot in Hapeville where the portions are humongous and the scotch bonnet runs heavy. So this spot works when you need a heavy lunch or a quick dinner that feeds more than one. Locals trickle in all day, grabbing takeout. A few take their savory goat curry to the small seating area. It all works as long as you make sure to have a shot of milk on standby when you order their very spicy jerk chicken plate. Some of the items, like the crispy fried whole red snapper, are made to order but well worth the 20 minute wait. Use that time to contemplate whether your questionable parking job in the weirdly shaped lot is tow-truck bait." - Jacinta Howard

Google
Today’s lesson “do not make decisions when you are really hungry“ because I KNEW I should not have gotten a roti from a Jamaican restaurant but it is what I really had a taste for and I did not want to drive to Marietta or Covington Highway. I ordered a “boneless“ chicken roti. The roti had in more chana (chickpeas) than chicken, it was swimming in liquid, and the dough was tough. I’m not even mad with them though because I knew better. I tried but I couldn’t get past halfway.

Google
Everything was so flavorful. Jerk chicken was falling off the bone. Oxtail gravy on the rice is the perfect touch. The lunch specials are great prices especially for ratio of food you get. And the workers were very friendly. You definitely gained a new regular.

Google
Food taste as if it was microwaved. Rice was too soft cabbage too soft neither had flavor! I would give 0 stars! Ew so glade I didn’t order the Mac and cheese. Jerk patty had little to no meat! I’ll never go back

Google
We placed a catering order for Christmas. The service was amazing, the communication was excellent. The food was delicious , all of my company loved the taste and flavor. Thank you for making my life easier ! Great job

Google
I recently visited Island Vibes Caribbean Grill and have mixed feelings about my experience. I ordered the six-piece chicken wings, but to my disappointment, it turned out to be just three wings cut in half, essentially making them drumettes. This felt misleading and not up to expectations. I also requested curry goat gravy to be heavy on my rice, but the gravy was unfortunately quite light, which was another letdown. On the brighter side, the cabbage was okay, and the plantains were cooked just right. While the wings lacked the strong jerk flavor I was hoping for, they were still flavorful in their own way. For dessert, the lemon cake was decent, and I enjoyed washing everything down with a refreshing Calypso. Overall, I would rate my experience a 2.5/5 due to the wing situation and the light gravy. There were some positives, but the key elements I was looking forward to fell short.

Google
I ordered here once a few years back and couldn’t remember if I enjoyed it so I stopped by again yesterday. I ordered a small jerk chicken, I wanted a beef patty but they were out. The jerk plate was good, food was fresh, I asked for just rice and meat but they gave me cabbage and plantain as well (it was tasty but I didn’t eat cause I didn’t want it). The chicken and rice & peas were so good; I wish they gave a little more rice, but they meat was plentiful. Customer service wasn’t friendly but they weren’t disrespectful or rude to me, and although there was a bit of a crowd as I came in, I was served quickly and out the door. Oh just a heads up, it’s 27 cent for extra jerk sauce (for anyone who likes a lot of sauce for their meat). Will be returning for the food for sure.

Google
Authentic Jamaican Food and the portion sizes will make you thank the Creator :D -- I've explored most of the menu as an American, and not only LOVE everything that I have had, the seasonings and the flavor in every dish are SUBLIME; tender fall-off-of-the-bone meats (yes, even in the Chicken Noodle Soup!), ox tail, wings, you name it. One word: TENDER. This is another staple restaurant, they are also very consistent and are my meal of choice when recovering from any illnesses; the Chicken Noodle Soup.... I've said enough. Stop by, give it a try! You'll be back, I'll be back!

Google
My first time eating from here, everything was very good. Oxtails were full of flavor and melted in my mouth. Second time eating from here, oxtails weren't tender at all and could've used more flavor. Rice was a little bland. Mac n cheese was delicious tho! Please continue to put love into the food when cooking and before serving, especially the oxtails.

Yelp
Bad: Parking is horrible, because they sit on a corner lot There may be 11 spots including I think 2 handicap spots. I actually backed in front of the dumpster..tight. fit. I was nervous the car next to me would leave before me..they were angled a little slanted..but yay I pulled out before they did. Good: Service was good, food came out fairly quick. If you cared to dine in there are a few tables. I over heard a guest say the hot water in the bathroom was HOT , so clean up before eating..you good. The noise level was medium not too noisy. Fair: I got small oxtail meal..rice and peas cabbage and 2 plantain slices. Smelled good..looked good. Got my food to go. I asked for medium sauce.. (no extra cost) but look like I barely got any sauce. I had to move the oxtails to get the little juice to put on my rice, ugh.If you wanted extra sauce there was a upcharge.(REALLY)The oxtails were tender but lacked flavor. The plantains were DRY. Only took one bite. The cabbage was tender but still had a little crunch..I liked that..but cabbage is my FAVE VEGGIE. Sorry to say I got no Island Vibe from this place. I was disappointed . You go try it and I will SYOY.

Yelp
Ordered a small plate brown stew chicken meal which included protein, rice, cabbage and plantains, plus got an order of veggie roti. The wait was probably about 15-20 minutes but the food came out fresh. The serving size for a small plate was pretty substantial surprisingly and food was all very good.
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
The red beans and rice was good, and the gravy for the oxtails had a good season flavor but the oxtails were over cooked so it was disappointing. The service was friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Looking for much to waste some time before my flight and found this place on yelp. Walked in and ordered the Jerk Chicken white meat lunch special. The food was good. The portion was large for $12. The only thing I would've liked was more cabbage. The lunch portion only comes with a few pieces. The meat was well seasoned and flavorful with the right amount of spice. The rice and peas were not dry and cabbage was cooked to perfection (hence me wanting more). The service was fast and the cashier was friendly. It's a a little small space nothing too fancy but the food is good so that's all that matters.

Mookie J.

Yelp
Not real Jerk sauce. It's bbq sauce. You can literally smell and taste the tomato base and Worcestershire sauce. HUGE disappointment. The service was quick and nice though. Won't be going back.
google avatar

Jack F.

Yelp
The food is mid. I would almost say not very good. Everything looked delicious until I tasted it. The rice tasted burnt. The cabbage tasted like they could have came out the can , and the proteins are just whatever flavor wise. The service was great and they're very nice. But the food was extremely disappointing

Sophia P.

Yelp
I went yesterday 10/1/25 and wanted some good oxtails, rice & beans and cabbage. The service was good l, quick and food looked delicious. When I got home and ate it, it was so disappointing. Where was the Caribbean spices and flavor? It was fresh and cooked well, but had little to no flavor. I had some Jamaican dry seasonings I had from earlier this year, so I had to still get in the kitchen and cook to make a gravy to help this bland food out. I live on the other side of town so I wasted my gas. You fool me once and it's a wrap for me. No thank you.
google avatar

Desiree L.

Yelp
Sorry I have to take back my past review of this establishment. I was there a few weeks ago and I ordered jerk chicken and rice and pease... the jerk tasted old and when I seen them pop it out of the microwave I knew that it was my last time visiting this restaurant. The rice and peas did not have any flavor and the oxtail sauce was bland as well. The only thing that did not change was the juice pineapple and ginger is still my favorite.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Wanted some jerk chicken but went to another place that wasn't open for lunch but I couldn't go far from my job and seen this spot several times but decided to try and the spot I use to go to near here can cancel Christmas This lunch special we special . The rice taste like real rice and peas and they don't short you on the coconut flavor in the rice . Chicken was a little better than mid but the jerk sauce made it really good . They have other options but the service very West Indian but with a smile from the cashier lady from the looks outside it looks like a old car shop , but limited parking but good to grab and go or dine in . Your lunch also comes with a can soda which is undefeated because most spots will not do it and that's what you call a lunch . A fresh spot to me and I know I found me another gem . Big Up yourself island vibes caribbean grill

Yelp
Great service, friendly workers. This place was packed so I knew the food was going to be great. The workers were nice so I was a bit nervous (IYKYK) but the food was amazing, I always get lunch specials at places I've never been before just to try the food out. But I'm wishing I would've gotten a bigger plate because this was amazing!

shikiera c.

Yelp
terrible service and always running out of patties 4-6 hours begore closing time! parking is terrible, overall their food is mid.

Lina F.

Yelp
The food was decent, but the service was really disappointing. The person at the register was super rude and acted like they didn't want to be there. Definitely felt like they didn't care about the customers at all. I probably won't be back.
google avatar

Calais L.

Yelp
Service was horrible. We was a party of 4. I placed my order first and then everyone else placed there's and then I asked what we get she said in a very mean way you didn't order So I placed again. Ticket was $92.00 dollars We had two of the same order but one had extra gravy. I asked the lady could she right on the box so we can know the difference since they was similar. She bag the food and said here Then, when I got to the Airbnb and was eating there was plastic in the bottom of the gravy. Far as the food...... I have had better but I will give it a 2. As much as I spent everything was a totally turn off. We had two plates of jerk chicken and 2 of oxtails. Everybody shouldn't work in customer service nor own a business. Rude and mean people and she act like I owed her.
google avatar

AJ B.

Yelp
Best Jamaican food in Atlanta area! Amazing menu options and delicious food! I got the brown stew with rice and peas with plantains and cabbage. I loved the beef patty! The restaurant was so homey and the staff was very helpful. Loved it here
google avatar

Valerie P.

Yelp
The food 1 out of 5 I rate it a 5. the service was good The restaurant needs to have more seating for the customers The only thing I see is the waiting area needs to be looked at.
google avatar

Tracey R.

Yelp
Everything is great here jerk wings sell out pretty quickly not enough parking small place for eat in but we'll worth it...

Laura T.

Yelp
Nice and friendly and warm. Food was good . They have fasting service. Family runs the restaurant. Fresh to order. They even make there on drinks that they bottle.
google avatar

Yelp
Omgee! I love this place. I work nearby and I kid you not, I eat here everyday. I eat here like twice a week (on a diet now lol) The food is ALWAYS hot! Like fresh off the skillet hot! I've never had a cold or warm meal from them. They have lunch specials everyday until like 2pm and they give you a great portion amount for the price. The food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. I've literally tried mostly everything on the menu (jerk chicken, curry chicken, curry goat, oxtails, etc) and all have been really good and most importantly, always hot and fresh! I'm currently in my car for lunch enjoying the brown chicken stew that I purchased for lunch.
google avatar

Loreto M.

Yelp
I love this spot! When it comes to Caribbean food, I don't need a menu.. it's always going to be oxtails. I dropped by during my lunch break, placed my order, found a seat and two minutes later, my food was ready. I must've timed it perfectly because a line quickly formed thereafter. As I opened up my to-go box, the smell of deliciousness hit my nose and got me excited! The vegetables, plantains, rice and oxtails.. everything was on point. I only wish I was at home, demolishing the goodness so I could use my hands to pick up and suck the oxtail bones clean. Will I be back? You damn skippy I will be!
google avatar

Derrión B.

Yelp
I'm sitting down about to eat while on lunch break. I come here all the time for lunch. The food is always on point and they have a wide selection.
google avatar

K L.

Yelp
Food is just OK. Everything is definitely prepared early in the day, so if you're getting dinner your rice will be extra dry and veggies not taste fresh. If the staff would acknowledge their customers and showed the smallest amount of kindness I would recommend or even return.

Sydney E.

Yelp
The oxtails and rice and peas are really good although I feel they could add more seasoning to the vegetables that come with but super good

Y R.

Yelp
Food was amazingggg best jerk chicken I've had in Atlanta yet!!! Don't expect good customer service when you go lol but that food, very authentic and soo so good!
google avatar

Tanya C.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. The food is DELICIOUS and the service is EXCELLENT! I've eaten the curry chicken, curry goat, oxtail, brown stew chicken, jerk pork, callaloo with food, red peas soup, cow foot soup, rice and peas, fried plantains and cabbage. . Thanks to them I can say I tried roti and I am hooked. Their food is fresh and some items are made to order. So make sure you allow the extra time that is required. You can't rush perfection. I should also mention that they have a variety of patties, but my favorite is the beef patty. If you are familiar with authentic Jamaican food. You have to try this restaurant.
google avatar

Shelby B.

Yelp
Oxtail was really good. I didn't care for my sides though. The pineapple ginger that's made in house is also really good.
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
Reading the reviews, everybody was talking about the jerk chicken. I'm usually a curry chicken dude, but I decided to follow the reviews to the jerk. I have to say THIS IS, HANDS DOWN, THE BEST JERK CHICKEN IVE HAD IN GA. This is. It was juicy and tender, with flavor through and through. THEY PUT THEIR FOOT IN DIS SHIT! Can't wait to try other stuff.
google avatar

Keshia J.

Yelp
Yes, just yes. I am always on the hunt for better lunch options in this area when I forget (or simply don't feel like) bringing lunch to work. I've passed by this location several times while on the other side of the railroad tracks and finally I decided to stop in. So so so good. I was expecting Golden crust-esque food but no, this is way better imo. I've since been multiple times since my first visit a few weeks ago. I have had the curry chicken and jerk chicken lunch specials and although both are good I am HOOKED on the jerk chicken lunch special with the curry gravy on the rice. I've also tried the curry chicken patty and it was fantastic. Def recommended especially for lunch time because their lunch special is such a good amount and very filling. I'll be going back to try the Roti soon!

Daena S.

Yelp
Brown Stew Chicken Lunch.... That is what I ordered. This is what I got. I am Jamaican and have never seen brown stew chicken look like this. No flavor, not seasoning, just "chicken" that looks like liver and some nasty rice and peas with an under fried plantain. Do not waste your time because this is not it.
google avatar

Emmanuel N.

Yelp
Good food, fast service, but the front desk cashiers are stiff, unfriendly and could use training on smiling

Kody R.

Yelp
The oxtail was excellent paired with yellow rice. I don't typically like plantains or cabbage, but these were so good! Food was hot, fresh, and lots of flavor and portion sizes were pretty large, even for a small order. Served within 5 minutes or ordering. Restrooms were clean. Only reason I gave it 4/5 is because the beef pattie tasted like dog food. Definitely will come back!
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
If you are near the airport and have an extra 30 minutes to have a hearty stick to your bones kinda meal this is your place! My family and I stop here whenever possible! Everything is fantastic! Our go to meals are the curry or jerk chicken with rice and peas. You must get a beef patty with coco bread as well! My husband normally has champagne cola and I have a Ting a grapefruit soda! Portions are large so most times you will be able to take home leftovers. Don't plan on wearing white when you visit because you will be gnawing down on those bones getting the last bit of meal and juices.
google avatar

Ciara D.

Yelp
One of my absolute favorite Jamaican spots! This place is close to my office, so I'm a frequent visitor. I always come during lunch and get the jerk chicken special which comes with cabbage, rice and peas, plantains, and a canned soda, but I ask for double rice and peas with heavy oxtail gravy. In addition to this, I get a curry chicken patty. Island Vibes has a plethora of patties...jerk chicken, curry chicken, beef, crab, callaloo, and more. The food is some of the best Jamaican I've had and many of my coworkers agree. Definitely a must try if you're in the Hapeville area.
google avatar

Grecia C.

Yelp
I ordered the goat roti and it was okay. It just didn't have much flavor and it was more bone and fat than meat. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy my food today, so I'm not sure I'll come back. The good part about this was that the pepper sauce was really good and very spicy which I did like a lot, but the food was just alright. I've had Roti before many times and I've always enjoyed it, this time just wasn't enjoyable.
google avatar

Ken C.

Yelp
I called to place a phone order at 7:35... she said they close at 8, don't take phone orders this late and the doors close at 7:50. I said ok I'm 12 mins away, I pull up at 7:47 they see me pull up and lock the doors and then tell me they are closed. I said but I just spoke to you and you told me 7:50 and it's 7:48. She shrugs and walks off. Keep in mind the door says they are open til 9pm. I swear we try to suppose to black businesses and this is what you get in return. I'm sitting in the parking lot writing the review At 7:50... the time she told me they would lock the doors. Piss poor

Tekoa H.

Yelp
I am from Brooklyn NY with the best Caribbean food. Staff precise; establishment clean, and food impeccable. I know longer have to wait to go home to Brooklyn to get real Jamaican food!!! And they even serve breakfast!!! And cow soup! Try it out!!
google avatar

Ralph C.

Yelp
Place is by all means the best value for your money! Its by the airport but without the noise. The Food and service is DOPE (as my nephew would say). The meat pies are the best.
google avatar

Zach S.

Yelp
Island Vibes is the perfect Jamaican restaurant if you want tasty, yet affordable Jamaican cuisine!! Everything from the Oxtail, Curry Goat, Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork have never disappointed me and this place is definitely the best Jamaican restaurant inside and outside of Atlanta!
google avatar

Mysti J.

Yelp
Some of the best Jamaican food I've had! Jerk chicken is moist, smoked and tasty. They have some good rice and peas especially with the oxtail gravy. Their curry chicken is very flavorful and I like the carrots and potatoes in it. Worth the money, will definitely keep going. The only thing is not a lot of parking due to size of parking lot but worth trying to figure it out.

Fran H.

Yelp
The jerk chicken spelled and tasted like it was day old upon picking it up when the young lady opened the container. I didn't want to complain or make a scene, so I was hoping it would have at least tasted good. I have been visiting this area for some time now and was eager to try the food. The cabbage was bland as if it were a plate for diabetics. I went shortly after noon, which is why I really expected fresh, tasty, good quality food.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Order the Jerk chicken rice and plantains. Chicken flavor was bland; I wish it at least had a hint of spicey. It was a good amount of food though. It was okay, but not impressed.

Kim M.

Yelp
Just stopped in on my way to airport and enjoyed this delicious food. Now I know it is here I will be back for sure.
google avatar

Chan F.

Yelp
I've gone twice. The first time they were getting prepared to close up. The young lady at the register was friendly and took my order very quickly. The food was good (I had ordered stew chicken with rice and peas). The next day I was sick, but I attributed it to the scotch bonnet peppers sauce they have on the tables. I added to the sauce to my chicken before leaving the restaurant. A week later I visited again and ordered a curry chicken with rice n peas and a small chicken soup. In the morning I was violently ill, much worse than before. I'm sure this go round it wasn't the pepper sauce as I avoided it. The urgent care doctor said it was in fact food poisoning. I'm not sure if they aren't storing the food at the correct temperatures or if it's old food they are serving but either way it's not okay to serve the public bad food. I'm not a happy customer.
google avatar

Cedric H.

Yelp
I happened to be in the area and saw a lot of cars in the parking lot yesterday. Checked it out today on Yelp and it looked good so I decided to try it out. Walked in and the staff was friendly. I'm not much of a Caribbean guy but they helped me choose my meal based on the food that I like. I ordered the curry chicken roti, a side of rice and peas with curry sauce, a beef patty & a pineapple soda. EVERYTHING was piping hot and delicious as promised. The dining area was clean with good vibe music playing and the bathroom was clean as well. Definitely will be returning and recommending.... great job! P.S. I had to stop halfway through my meal to ensure I could properly leave this review before entering a euphoric coma having stuffed myself. Goodnight
google avatar

Shilly C.

Yelp
I had the spinach and cheese patties it was delicious while it was hot. And I also had the jerk chicken over rice. They have like 3 sauces you can get over your rice. I pass by this place all the time and wondering why it be so busy I see why now they have great service and great food
google avatar

Tamira M.

Yelp
I always drive pass this restaurant and finally decided to stop to checkout their beef patties. The staff are very friendly. The inside decor resembles the colors of the Jamaican flag and provides intimate seating if you'd like to sit down and enjoy your meal there. The rice & peas were tasty. You have the option of 3 different gravies. Next time I'll opt for no gravy because the peas & rice were flavorful enough. The food is freshly made & served hot. The outside of the beef patties were a little too flaky for my liking. To the point they would easily fall apart. The inside filling was good. This is the only Jamaican restaurant in Hapeville that I know of. It's good enough to satisfy my craving for a beef patty for a fair price. The restaurant sits on the corner of Central Ave and Metropolitan so it's easy to find. There's free parking in the adjoining lot. Nice neighborhood restaurant to support.

Jonathan O.

Yelp
I called the restaurant at 6:20pm to get a Goat Roti and got more than what asked for! Very good service with a family vibe and even better food. I absolutely never had a bad experience at this place. I always recommend this place to other people and even people coming from out of town. Keep it up!
google avatar

Mimi G.

Yelp
Food is always good!! My go-to for lunch is the oxtail and the curry chicken and my coco bread.
google avatar

Larry F.

Yelp
Love the food here it's the real deal.I had the Oxtail few weeks ago it was very good. I came back to try wings and soup delicious.

Valerie S.

Yelp
My order was incorrect. The worst part is that the food is microwaved once you order it and mine was cold and bland.
