The Best-Value Restaurants in East London Are Cheap, But Not Cheap Eats - Eater London

"Lorraine Paul’s family’s pease pudding stand has stood here since the utopian days of the 1950s that birthed Chrisp St Market, but both are on borrowed time. While the market gets regenerated, Paul will relocate away from London, perhaps permanently, but there’s still time to try this dying East End tradition at London’s last pease pudding shop. Her pease pudding is pleasingly soft and whipped, the texture of baby food, enlivened by juice from cooked onions and a slick of mustard: yellow on yellow. With taut, snappy red torpedoes of saveloy, a bread roll and faggot stuffing, a creative diner can pay homage to that lasting edifice of north-eastern ingenuity: the saveloy dip." - Jonathan Nunn

The only and only place serving PEASE PUDDING as well as saveloy and faggots in East London. They only open from Wednesday to Saturday. Overall good but I feel that they should list their opening times to avoid disappointment for new customers. I went there twice as it was closed on the first visit and they did not even tell me when they were open until I asked again. Stuff like this is going out of tradition and yet they are lamenting why people are not trying it yet when some customer is clearly interested they didn't seem to bother to even mention when they were open which is frustrating as not everyone lives locally.

Totally get why so well rated. Plain and simple and all the better for it. Not only very reasonable prices but Clean friendly and value for money. Just a real nice experience sitting in the sunshine eating nicely prepared simple food. Go for it if in and around Poplar. 👍

I am giving this place five stars because the women working there were infinitely kind. The coffee was just instant coffee but the live that came with it made it special. If you get a sandwich, get the onions. They were caramelized to perfection and made the sandwich. The conversation with the ladies sitting out front made it a special morning.

Protect this place at all costs. Proper east end heritage and good to see the culture of the east end alive and well. Can’t beat the prices for the quality you get!
