16 Colorado Venues for a Royally Good Wedding and Reception | Eater Denver

"An hour south of Denver in Colorado Springs is the transformed Ivywild School, a former elementary which now boasts a brewery, distillery, music venue, restaurants, and more. It has unique spaces (see gymnasium, principal’s office, study hall) for various event sizes, plus a grand entrance staircase for photos. Just like a school dance, only boozier." - Josie Sexton

Google
We were visiting Colorado Springs during Thanksgiving week and looking for Bristol Brewing Company. We didn’t know that it was located inside this place. It is an interesting place that has restaurants, bars, and shops. The bathroom decor is super cute. We went on a Friday afternoon and it was lively.

Google
Great atmosphere and crazy cool building! The food is a little pricey but the experience is nice. I don’t recommend the BBQ. I’m from the south and this BBQ isn’t the greatest. Their BBQ sauce is sub par. But for beer and cocktails this place is it!

Google
What up everybody, it’s your girl Plum back with another review. This is such a cute little eatery. I really love how much of the authentic school they kept in the remodel, especially in the bathrooms and hallways. They have de-lish pizza for vegans that I would go back to eat daily if I could. The beers are out of this world. The lemon beer? Better hold your socks tight or they’ll get knocked off!! Overall, unique spot that is well worth a visit.

Google
Cute place, but I’m tired of all these places that make you tips regardless of the service. An old converted school that was done pretty well and has elements. I had to wait in line to order, standup while ordering, go get my food from the counter when ready, then bus and clean my own table. So what is the tip for actually?

Daniel

Google
Freakin great place to hangout at night. Really good drinks, and food. There's at least two different bars inside and like maybe 3 to 5 restaurants to choose from in here.

Mark Pitts

Google
This converted school is a really neat place to stop for a lunch or dinner, or just a few drinks. You can sit indoors at several seating areas, at a bar, or outdoors in uncovered and covered seating spaces. They have many options for food at walk up counters where you place your order and wait for your food, or at outdoor food stands. They have salads, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, desserts, ice cream, and several other options. They have two bars with draft beer, and the largest bar has plenty of drink choices. There is plenty of free parking. Prices are a little higher than expected, and for the most part, the food is fairly average at best, but it’s still a great place to spend some time relaxing with friends or family.

Google
I work for a nonprofit and was able to rent the new "library" space for an event. The process was incredibly easy and affordable! The room was the perfect size, nice and quiet which allowed for great conversation without having to yell over music. The staff was WONDERFUL! I will definitely utilize Ivywild again for their event space. 10/10 would recommend.

Google
Hoo wee! This is not your ordinary distillery. This is a house of flavor. Very apt at creating concoctions of excellence from an extensive library of homemade potions. Their version of Chartreuse is pure green gold. Just watching them whip out the blow torch is a treat (and they use 4 different types of wood blocks).

Yelp
I really like the idea of Ivywild. The setting has a great vibe and repurposing the building this way is a good use of it. It's a food hall with a variety of food establishments. You grab your own silverware and water. Then bus when done. It is quite loud so a little difficult to have a conversation but I think it likely depends on who else is seated in the same area as you. I had Bristol's Spark bbq, it was just okay. Green beans had good flavor but were so greasy. It was all really greasy. 1/2 chicken was very salty. Brisket was decent. Bbq beans were terrible-one bite and I threw them out. They tasted like cow crap smells (only way I can describe it). There are other eateries that have: pizza, salads, bakery, burgers/sandwiches. Overall, a good experience. For a group that wants to eat different things it's a good option.

Yelp
Such a fun place! I love what they've done with this school. We came for trivia at Bristol, but enjoyed walking around and exploring. We didn't get a chance to try any of the food, we had just eaten before coming. But we look forward to partaking in some eats next time. The cute shop was also closed at that time. So that's another thing to check out at a later time. We hung around outside after trivia. Nice Adirondacks around a fireplace (not sure if these get lit or not.) Great spot to enjoy drinks & laughs. Will update after we visit again.

Yelp
Holy cow is this place cool! I wish we had a renovated school like this where we live. We came mainly for Bristol Brewing, but we loved walking around the old school. We ended up enjoying delicious cookies from one of the vendors and perused the cute little shop at the end by the stairs where we picked up a few trinkets. The fun facts painted in the restroom were fun to read. Adding some nostalgia to being back in school. This is definitely a must stop for travelers and a must visit for locals. Can't wait to come back to Colorado Springs someday just for this fun spot!

Yelp
What a cool place! They took an old shutdown school and turned it into a food court campus with bars, restaurants and a brewery. There is a bakery and some shops in here as well. Loved the vibe!
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Such a special and unique spot. We stopped by here on our trip to Colorado Springs and it was definitely a highlight. Loved the school theme, the options for food (we had the bbq and loved it) and the beer/cocktail options. It's a huge space with both inside and outside seating. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
Super cool concept having multiple different bars and restaurants all held within one location. Having the ability to rent out spaces for private parties is great too. Only issue was the inability to walk around with drinks because of the different liquor licenses held by different establishments. If everything is in one building you have to expect that groups of people will roam to different locations.
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
It feels like it's really close to being great but something seems to be missing. The best part though is the shuffle board in one of the reateraunts, more places need that! It does have a couple options for everybody though.
google avatar

Claudy C.

Yelp
It's an old school that now has a few restaurants inside. I went with the pizza and a flight from Bristol Brewing. Detroit style was great. The place is so cool. Clean and the staff is very nice. There's plenty of seating inside and outside. I definitely recommend coming here after Garden of the Gods.

Yelp
Very fun day at Ivywild School. This reminds me of the McMenamins Kennedy School in Portland (just much smaller). Bristol Brewing has a big presence on one end of the two story school and Axe and Oak Distillery on the other. Spread amongst other rooms are restaurants offering pizza, burgers, sandwiches, coffee and cakes. Outside, there was live music and plenty of seating to enjoy the sun and sounds. Parking is rough here and I had to find a spot in the neighborhood (just up the street next to a park). Overall, I recommend checking this place out and spending a few hours if you're in Colorado Springs.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome drink menu & environment! Service is great! Establishment is cool with several food options within.

Yelp
Wow, What a cool place! So its an old school building turned into a venue. They have shops, bars, walk up windows for all sorts of foods. They have tables and chairs inside and out. Surprisingly my two Favorite things about this place was Cloth napkins and a Walk up water station. Let me explain the water station. There is a spot that has a bunch of full water bottles that you just grab and take to your table. You don't have to wait for someone to fill your water, you just go grab a bottle or two, Fantastic! Five stars right there alone! I love it! We got our food from a BBQ spot called Bristol's Spark. I had a smoked sausage glizzy with slaw, delicious. My brother got the pulled pork sando, delicious. My niece had the loaded waffle fries, delicious. My nephew had a slice of pizza, from a different spot, delicious. It was such a cool place. They had music going, lots of people just having a great time. It was like a carnival over there. Definitely check this place out.

Yelp
This place is very interesting. It's a great idea and I was surprised they had the Detroit-style pizza (not a fan of it, but it was good to see out in CO). I got a dessert empanada from Lazo's that I'd highly recommend, a beer from the brewery, and a BBQ mac-n-cheese from Spark. I didn't care much for the mac, but there's another place inside that also has interesting mac that I will try next time. Overall it's fun to park and walk around the school. There are some random places to eat, like an area with comfy chairs or you can have a party (looked like it could be rented out) in the gym. The bathrooms are the boys and girls rooms and have a lot of educationally motivating decor inside. I'm glad the group I hiked with introduced me to this place, and I'll be sure to stop in again.

Yelp
Goldstar Bakery is the standout here. The people are beyond kind and welcoming and the baked goods are decadent. We split a berry pie and it was impossible not to finish despite the generous portion. Gluten free options are available in cookies and pies. Highly recommend for a stop!

Yelp
It was our first time to Ivywild and the Principal' office. Very cool how they reinvented the school with shops restaurants and bars
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so cute! A food hall in an old school, clever use of a space. My daughter ate a burger & fries from Ivywild Kitchen & she ate every last bite of it including her fries, the guy at the counter was so friendly & had great energy. Great service! They had decent BBQ Bristol's Spark but id skip the brisket, it was a little dry. The ribs were tender and tasty & they have a mustard & regular BBQ sauce. The mustard sauce was a little tastier than the regular one. The regular BBQ sauce was in the sweeter side.
google avatar

Yelp
Such an amazing concept! Also love the food hall style with such an array of options. I opted for salad or bust with the Hippy Love sandwich and sweet potato miso soup and both were so fresh, flavorful, and well made! I also grabbed a vanilla pear iced latte at The Principals Office that was amazing! I chatted with the staff at the bar for a bit and all of them were so kind. One had pink hair and butterfly clips in it and we talked for about 20 minutes about how to achieve the color without damaging the hair, where we were from, and what she recommended on the menu! The vibe here is unmatched. The decor is so beautifully on brand and the theme is carried out perfectly!

Yelp
Obsessed with this spot!!! What a cool way to repurpose a school that otherwise would have been torn down. I love that they actually kept it like a school inside - my teacher friend was almost too familiar with it, lol. Lots of great food options too. I went intending to get a salad, but then I saw Detroit Style Pizza!! I can never pass that up, and it was delicious. They offer build your own pizzas which is great. The cocktail bar was packed but the menu was huge and super unique. The bartenders were attentive and friendly. The brewery and tap rooms were more chill with faster service. There is definitely something for everyone here, and it's a great way to spend a couple hours when in the area.
google avatar

Lili C.

Yelp
I finally went to check out this place. It's super cool, and I love that it once was a school. What a way to repurpose and still keep it alive! There was an event that day, and they were playing live music. I'm disappointed that the empanada spot is not there anymore. Fear not! There are plenty of other options in the different classrooms to choose from. There were turkey legs and pretzels, and they were good. There's plenty of outside seating to enjoy the nice view, but the parking lot can fill up quickly. I also saw a playroom for kids, and that was pretty cool. It's a school, after all. Go check them out. Get a beer or two, and enjoy the view and the relaxed atmosphere.

Yelp
This was just a cool atmosphere to be able to relax at for a while. It is a company that bought an old school and turned it into multiple mini-restaurants (based on the type of food) and had a brewery here as well. The beers were great, I stuck with the IPAs but I was very happy. The food was pretty good too, we had a mix of pizza, burgers, salads, green chili fries, and empanadas. It was largely self-service, you go place your order and they will text you when to come pick it up. Outside is a chill area where kids can play and you relax with a beer. I would definitely go back here again.

Brady A.

Yelp
This is ONLY for the principals office. The distillery Axe and Oak i would rate a 5/5, amazing service literally can't praise them enough. The principals office bar straight up told us they closed at 11 pm. It was 11:25, they didn't serve us. Look at this photo, clearly they are open but didn't want to work. Lazy as hell.
google avatar

Yelp
This is such a cool spot on Colorado Springs! I love the idea of repurposing this space into a cool new spot for lots of different businesses. The little gift shop has adorable stickers and knickknacks of all kinds. I definitely recommend checking out the old cigarette machine that now dispenses little art pieces! I love the creativity in this and the way to buy little art pieces from artists! The food and drink options are great here, and I love that everyone can try something different while with a group so that everyone can get what they want! The interior is so cool and has fun art all over. The bartenders at The Principal's Office were great, and I really enjoyed the empanadas from another vendor as well! If you live in Colorado Springs or just visiting, Ivy Wild is definitely worth a stop!
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
It's a bit haphazard, but lots of choices and something for everyone. Service is a bit off. Just make sure they get it right.
google avatar

Joshua R.

Yelp
Been to almost every place the school has to offer and they're all great! Principals office is a cool spot to grab a drink. Axe and oak distillery has very good drinks. Decent pizza is a solid spot for deep dish pizza. I haven't had anything from here that I wouldn't recommend. Customer service was always good at each spot as well. I'll definitely be hanging out here this summer with the beautiful weather.
google avatar

Yelp
This place warmed my heart so much! It reminded me of the times I was in elementary, middle, and high school. The days you so badly want to get back that you took for granted. Everything was spot to the decor to the verbiage they used. The only thing that didn't correlate with the whole school theme was the food, THANK GOD! There were some hits back in school, you have to give credit where credit is due. But Ivy Wild does it better. I decided on pizza because Ivy Wild itself was closed unfortunately. I ordered a build your own pizza with sausage, bacon, and artichoke hearts. When my pizza was done I asked for extra sauce and the cashier was nice enough to provide me with some on the side. I'm not sure if it was the sangria talking but the pizza was IMMACULATE. I don't think I inhaled a single breath the entire 15 minutes I ate. Who needs air when you have delicious pizza. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
This is a favorite stop of mine whenever I visit The Springs. What a great concept, to take an old historic building and turn it into a great community oriented place. This is a reclaimed Elementary School that was built in 1916. A favorite place of mine within Ivywild is the Principal's Office. I love how they subtitle it, "Libations For The Troubled." You may order coffee or cocktails there. It's great to walk around Ivywild and feel the history of the place. There are plenty of eateries within Ivywild that feature empanadas, Detroit style pizza, burgers or BBQ. There is also a nice brewery on-site. I would be skeptical if someone were to tell me that they couldn't find anything good to eat here. I already tried the empanadas that are sold at Lazy Empanada. It was one of the best I've had! Loved the crispy (not burned) crust. There is plenty of parking on the side streets. This is a great place for a first date or subsequent ones. The Principal's Office has a nice outside patio area with plenty of seating for the warmer weather. When I visited the Principal's Office for the first time, I sat outside with a friend in the summer while enjoying drinks and had a wonderful time. I love all of the cute paddles with holes in them for door handles on the cabinets. They should make key chains of them. They have a small gift shop to buy hats or shirts. Overall, this is a great place to visit, if you haven't been to Ivywild. If you're visiting from out of town, I recommend putting this on your list of places to see. Great place to have lunch, dinner or to end your day with a refreshing cocktail. I hope that you have a pleasant visit!

Yelp
We had a great time! Super family and dog friendly hang out. Lots of cool ambiance and different options for every persons taste and experience expectation. They offer outdoors, indoors, and secluded quiet nooks if that's your vibe. We ate the Spark BBQ truck with our beer from Bristol Brewing. Really fun hangout - definitely recommend.
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Cool concept in a 100 year old elementary schoolhouse! Great food options and excellent beers!
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Really cool spot to hang out and explore for a few hours on a nice afternoon. Former school built in 1916 that's been turned into a brewery and food hall with five different restaurant choices. We ordered beer from the Bristol Brewing company and split a pizza from the Decent Pizza Company for a late lunch. Several different seating hours inside and out. Just a neat spot. Looking forward to going back.
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
very cool concept & use of what used to be a school! I thought it would give creepy vibes but it's actually so cute and trendy inside. We went right when it opened on a Friday for some beer and a quick bite to eat. Everything was good and lonely given it was Friday morning. I do wish I would have stopped later in the day to check out some of the spots that were not open yet.
google avatar

Yelp
There are times wherein I am absolutely amazed that I have not taken the time to explain a 5 Star rating both from the perspective of the business owner, employees and as well as my fellow Yelpers. This is by all means a unique experience simply from the ambiance itself (a repurposed school) that is segregated into a series of different establishments dedicated to food, and incredibly creative drinks (served in appropriately labelled "The Principal's Office) an Emporium containing creative gifts and a Kitchen. I'll restrict myself to the Principal's Office (a common setting for me) and address the creativity and service orientation of the bartenders of whom are passionate about their craft. In my particular care it was an Old Fashion complete with muddled fruit , an orange twist, bitters (both Scrappy's bitters and Angostura) and Luxardo cherries with just a drop of cherry syrup. At my request the Bourbon was with heavy Rye (Redemption) since it tends to reduce the sweet signature of the classic "Punch"...I have no doubt that had a G-Man been present he would have thought that I had a glogg all perfectly served over a single 'brick' cube in an Old Fashion Glass...expertly made and an expert experience you should not forego while in Colorado Springs.

Yelp
Awesome, cool, huge public market. They turned this old school into a huge food court! It was pretty awesome. Different shops and different places to eat! The bathroom was pretty nostalgic! This was cool af!!
google avatar

Ida S.

Yelp
IvyWild was great! Got empenadas, a. Urgent, fries and tasty beverages! Kudos to all the various vendors there!
google avatar

Yelp
I thought I wrote a review here some time ago. Great fun place. Spread out but fun. Enjoy the school facilities made into multiple venues of food and drink. Pizza. Salads. Burgers. Empanadas. On the weekends...bbq. We enjoyed the bbq. Brisket that tasted amazing. Tender. But cold. Home made brats that were fantastic. Nice beer selection. Cool atmosphere.
google avatar

Hope M.

Yelp
This place was super cool. I went there for a get together with my coworkers. It's pretty nice inside with an open area to find different food choices and places to get drinks. It's nice you can grab whatever you want and sit wherever. It's great for a big group to come her because everyone can find something they like. I tried the empanadas with pineapple lemonade at Lazo Empanadas and it was really good. We sat inside the Bristol Pub. It was busy for a Weds night. Fun place with some games there like chess and shuffle board. I would recommend to anyone visiting Colorado Springs to check this place out!
google avatar

Tyler C.

Yelp
If more elementary schools fed people like this, students would never leave. IvyWild Elementary opened in 1916. And in 1994 it was converted to a event venue, restaurant, brewery and distillery. It is fun to climb the stairs of the school, decide if you go to the gym for a party, the principles office for a coffee and a drink or one of the stalls with pizza, burgers, empanadas or beer.
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
Very unique concept!! We were a little confused when we walked in, but quickly figured it out. There's a bunch of different places to eat and drink, all in the school. Got one of each dessert empanada from lazo, a beer flight from Bristol brewery, a chicken sandwich and a burger from the burger joint (can't remember the name). All were good. Loved the different seating areas, both indoors and out! Great atmosphere!
google avatar

Donna A.

Yelp
This place is so cool! I loved each room...even the bathroom murals! We didn't eat today, but we enjoyed the beer at Bristol Brewing Company. The workers were very helpful too. The library was a cute gift shop with lots of fun and unique merchandise

Courtney R.

Yelp
It's awesome; you have to experience it yourself! Cocktails, vibe, and the cute little shop had us hooked.

Mark R.

Yelp
This is not for the overall of the place . This is for spark bbq - place is literally hot anus. It's like bbq.... if bbq was disgusting tasteless and cooked in an oven . For real place sucks - sandwich- pure fat . Brisket - no smoke ring - should have thrown my $30 into a river that would have been more enjoyable than what I ate here . Will say dudes working were cool tho.. if I could turn back time like cher I would have had a cactus for dinner to stop my mouth from ever tasting this .
google avatar

Kylie C.

Yelp
Such an interesting set up! So..it's kind of a co-op of different business working together. The service at each restaurant is level 10. You can order delicious craft cocktails at one place and food at another. Keep in mind to use the QR codes. The seating is open which is super cool, each place offers a different vibe. Flagging as this is my new social spot In Colorado!
google avatar

Kelly W.

Yelp
This place is SO cool!!!! It's super nostalgic (check out the bathroom, it's like a time warp!) and it's large enough for any group size or type. There's numerous food outlets so everyone can be happy as well as two areas for beer and a bar called The Principals Office (love it!) We ordered pizza and spinach dip, all items were delicious! I got a beer from Bristol and my friend got a weird cold brew/ginger beer drink. There is a ton of indoor and outdoor seating and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I loved the jungle gym type structure over the outdoor seating and the fresh hops growing in the front. I wish I lived in Colorado, I would frequent Ivywild!
google avatar

Jenna L.

Yelp
Visited this place back in August and finally have time to review it! I really liked Ivywild when I came here because it was super old school and modern at the same time. This used to be an actual school back in the day and eventually was turned into a bunch of food/beverage places, along with Bristol Brewing Co. where you can get tours of the place. I love that they kept this building as its original layout but still turned it into something great/useful for the community to enjoy. The food is really tasty and you have multiple options to choose from, as well as beverages to try! The staff is super friendly and helpful. It's a great place to come hang out and relax. Check this place out for sure.
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
Some friends recommended this place to us so we had to check it out! Super cool concept. Can walk around with your drinks! Shuffle board, cool spaces to hang, & our bartender Justin was the best! Sour beer was delish.

Cade C.

Yelp
This is one of the more unique places I've ever eaten at! The vibe of restaurants that act similar to food trucks was really neat. The staff are quick and friendly! All around a fun experience with great dining options.
google avatar

Valerie H.

Yelp
Super cute concept! We were visiting from out of town and wanting to check out some cool and quirky places and this was definitely it! Several food and drink options all in one place is my jam. We stopped in for some drinks and lunch, we hit up Bristol Brewing first the staff was super nice and the beers were refreshing. Then we moseyed over to the Principals Office for drinks which was very cool, the Moscow mule was one of the best I've had. The pizza from Decent Pizza was delicious. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area, there is something for everyone.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
I seriously love this idea of this place and the execution is almost spot on. Imagine your beloved elementary hallways filled with restaurant & bar storefronts, tables and all around fun! There are several places to get a drink (whiskey place in the basement, Bristol brewing on the main floor and the principals office). Plus there is a variety of food from empanadas to burgers to pizza. Basically you can order food from any spot and bring it to the bars and (mostly) freely move around the school with it. The only think that would make it better is an app to allow you to order your food and then notify you when you can pick it up (otherwise you have to wander from your nice table at said bar to order food and then get up again to go get it). Parking is OK - it can get busy. Also, seriously notice where you walk in from the parking lot, because we didn't and had a moment of.....um, how do we get out to our car (we figured it out).
google avatar

Regina A.

Yelp
Nice concept for food court. Little high priced for a salad but it was packed full of premium salad veggie toppings so YUM!! Cute little curiosities shop!

Christy H.

Yelp
Food was not very good (we had Decent Pizza Co. and BBQ place). Cool place and concept though in converting the old school!

Yelp
After hearing about this place for yearrrrrsssss, I knew it was a place I had to check out. So with a friend visiting the springs, we opted to head over to see what the fuss was about. Let's just say, this spot is downright awesome. ++ Located in an old Elementary school house just south of downtown Colorado Springs, this food hall/market place is truly one of a kind! As if stepping back into time, the spacious lot offers ample parking, a variety of seating - including a killer outdoor patio - and gives off all the school vibes! The bathrooms are decorated in local children's art, old desks have been converted into booths, various classrooms were converted to vendor operations and the Principal's Office... IS A BAR! ++ Although the vendor list is small, the large building offers a Whiskey Tasting bar, Bristol Brewing Co, Decent Pizza and the famed Principals Office, all of which are fun to explore, eat, drink and shop! There is something for everyone! ++ Staff at the various establishments inside were friendly, engaging with each person who entered and fostered a fun and interesting experience! When in the springs, I'd easily venture here again!
