"Off the beaten track near the BQE, this atmospheric sushi bar is a great date spot, and the prices are less than one might expect for high-quality sushi. Sushi assortments are priced at around $40 for 10 pieces of nigiri and a nori roll, which will fill you up despite the lack of accompaniments (no soup, no salad). The higher-priced omakase contains fancier fish than one might expect." - Robert Sietsema

I’d consider this a hidden gem. Though it did pick up after 7pm, I wish to have seen more people there prior because they deserve more recognition! The seafood is very fresh! We loved it all. I will definitely be back. Our waitresses Elle & Sebika were also very sweet. Elle offered great suggestions. We started off with 2 dishes and ended up order 6 when it was all said and done! Lol

I recently dined at Iwak Sushi, and it was an incredible experience! The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The sushi was absolutely top-notch, with fresh ingredients and beautifully crafted presentations. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and the variety on the menu was impressive. The service was impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff who made sure everything was perfect. I highly recommend Iwak Sushi to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. Definitely a 10/10!

Sushi was sooo fresh! I also love their iPad menus and the variety of appetizers. I might come back just for apps! The staff was very kind and attentive. I also loved how calm and quiet the vibe was on the patio.

Google
Everyone there was extremely kind and the food came out at a reasonable time. The food was full of flavor and delicious! The restaurant was very clean as well and looked beautiful. Overall amazing experience, I will be coming back!

Genuinely one of the best sushi in Brooklyn — they deserve 5 stars. Quality of fish was top notch. Ambience was great and service was personable.

Google
Unbelievable experience ! They deserve 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 You must try omakase 🥰 The space is not that big but the flavor very bold, never underestimate this place .. The price is really reasonable and worth every penny 👍🏻 Will come back again when we visit NYC !!!

Had nice lunch with my family on not too crowded Sunday afternoon around 12.30 pm. I got their ramen and chicken karaage for my kids. They also serve fresh orange juice for the kids! My wife and I had omakase sushi, sweet diablo rolls and their filet mignon (surprisingly, they serve it with something puree NOT ordinary mashed potatoes like everyone else). their octopus appetizer and their scallop appetizer with truffle are very very delicious! Will be back again to try their other food!

Lovely spot with delicious and high quality sushi and friendly service. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for good sushi.

Yelp
Came here for a friend's birthday dinner and we tried every appetizer on the menu and 6 or 7 different rolls. Honestly, every appetizer was very good. Each being unique from each other. Saying that I guess I'll only mention that one that was just ok, the grilled octopus. It wasn't what I expected, so it was just, especially in comparison to the other appetizers. One of the fun sushi rolls we got was the Big Mac. It's 100% worth it. It sounds so off to get a sushi called that, but it was one of my favorites hands down.

Yelp
My friend and I have been on a sushi kick lately and since we were in the Williamsburg area, we decided to stop by for a light, quick dinner. It's a nice restaurant with moody lighting, perfect for a date night or a small birthday celebration. Their menu is hosted on an iPad, so you can tap through the different categories and read about each food option. The only thing is that the tablet can get a little glitchy. My friend has a gluten allergy and our server was patient. She took the time to ask the kitchen about whether different ingredients were GF-friendly. The staff also brought over a bottle of gluten-free soy sauce! I ordered a Crunchy Spicy Kani Avocado Roll and two Salmon Nigiri, and the food came pretty quickly. The rolls were tasty but I do think avocado could have been a little more ripe. Also, I didn't think my Crunchy Spicy Kani Avocado Roll was at all spicy. It felt like the kitchen added a little bit of an original twist to the items, for example, lemon zest to the salmon nigiri, which wasn't bad but not necessarily needed if you just want classic, hearty sushi.

Yelp
This is a review based on a Takeout experience. Quality of food was decent but overall plagued by shrink-flation portions. The $5 soup was in a small 8 oz container. I ordered a signature roll ($18) and a classic roll ($9). Special roll was double the price however it was exactly the same size as the classic roll, which on average, was smaller than a classic roll at other sushi spots in the area. I don't want to feel scammed after ordering from somewhere and unfortunately that's how I felt. First and probably last time I order from here

Yelp
Went here on a date. It is your typical Chinese sushi place nothing amazing nothing terrible

Leemor Y.

Yelp
To be honest, it's closer to a 3.5 stars than 4 but I'm rounding up because the service was very nice and attentive. I went for dinner here with my sister and partner and we ordered a bunch of items and shared. - Mushroom miso soup (5/5): this was the best miso soup I've had. - Brussels sprouts (2.5/5): lacked texture and crunchiness. Was fine but needs improvement. - crispy tuna (3/5): these felt like fried balls of rice more than crispy tuna so I was a bit disappointed since I usually love crispy rice. - Big Mac (4.5/5): this was unique and delicious, the clear winner of all the rolls we ordered. - banana dessert (4.5/5): delicious!! Textures are great. We liked it more than the matcha finger one Overall a nice spot for dinner and we didn't have to wait when we arrived on a Thursday night.

Yelp
My bff and I were in the area on a rainy day and both craving sushi. We came across this find on yelp because it was very highly rated. It did not disappoint! Possibly the best spicy tuna roll I've ever had. I also recommend their crispy rice spicy tuna app! We also ordered a nigiri entree, all the fish was so fresh and I can't wait to go back. The employees there were very kind and attentive and the aesthetic of the restaurant was very cute. I think It would make for a great date spot! From my pics you can see the cute aesthetic! It's not too far from the metropolitan G/L train!

Chelsea Z.

Yelp
Cute new upscale sushi spot in WB, great for date nite or just vibes. We started with some delicious and strong drinks and ordered sooo much food - it was so good! I'd thought we'd stop after apps and entrees but we wanted to try more of the menu and really pigged out. The Big Mac Roll, Yoda Roll, crispy rice spicy tuna, and saikoro steak were all fantastic. If you want a classic, their Philly role was fresh too. I liked my drink the lycheetini. Service is on point and also special note that the chairs are so comfortable!

Julia H.

Yelp
I had high expectations for IWak, having read many reviews and also having scoured the menu a handful of times. I ordered delivery which may have been my mistake since it's literally less than a five minute walk from where I live. I often just stick to rolls if it's not a sit down or omakase situation because it's just more reliable. I did the spicy salmon, california, and spicy shrimp crunchy something or other. I thought the vinegar rice on the rolls was well done. Something that's usually butchered. The insides of the rolls were what threw me off. None of the spicy stuff was actually spicy :/ It was hard to tell if the fish was fresh or not, but perhaps dining in and trying the nigiri or sashimi would be a better indicator.

Yelp
I'm embarrassed to admit I've never been much of a sushi person. I tried it once when I was younger and wrote it off as raw fish. But in an attempt to expand my palate, my friend took me here to re-try sushi and sample an assortment of things. Take this review with a grain of salt, as I am a novice sushi eater. But for those venturing into the land of sushi just a little too late into adulthood, Iwak is definitely a perfect place to start. We ordered an assortment of appetizers (gindara, spicy tuna), rolls, and a la carte sushi pieces. My favorites were the gindara, eel, spicy tuna, and spider roll. Will definitely be back to try more and to save room for dessert. Also, shout out to the very kind and friendly staff. They were super helpful with choosing pieces to try and offering recommendations, and they gave us complimentary sake!

Luis B.

Yelp
I heard about this recently opened place and decided to give it a try. Initially, I tried calling in early for a reservation, but I learned that it operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Arriving ahead of time, we put our names on the waitlist and waited for over an hour. However, once seated, we were pleasantly surprised with swift service and even offered complimentary sake. The highlight, of course, was the exceptional food and impeccable service. Each sushi dish was a burst of delightful flavors. I'm eagerly looking forward to my next visit.

Taylor T.

Yelp
spicy tuna crispy rice is foie gras is service time is shumi is next time i'm in the area, i will def make a return!

Sydny F.

Yelp
10/10 food Shiitake Miso soup is a MUST. Best miso ever. Definitely order one when you go. Love the spicy tuna roll, all the special rolls and the sweet potato roll. Can't go wrong honestly. They do not disappoint, more fish than rice usually which is unheard of. I'd recommend going in over ordering as I've never ordered. Usually plenty of tables available but best of all was when they had complimentary sake. I don't think they serve it anymore much to my disappointment. Petition to bring that back!! :) But it's BYOB now so definitely bring sake or beer or wine.

Yelp
A relatively new restaurant along Grand in Brooklyn. Just 5 months old in a growing community. Iwak was a quick walk from hotel indigo and satisfied my urge for Japanese food tonight. When you can eat nigiri without dipping each piece in soy sauce or wasabi, you know it is good. Very fresh pieces of fish. The little touch of adorning the top of each of pice of nigiri made iwak stand out of the ordinary. The grande nigiri comes with a spicy tuna roll that wasn't that spicy. Tasty and not spicy. If you are around here and has the urge like me, give iwak a try. Start with a pot of their bottomless green tea. Nothing special but it comes in a heavy tea pot with a geometric design.

Yelp
Was craving sushi and found this little gem in Willyb at 8pm. Not a lot of good sushi in willyb and I was doubtful but the reviews were good. Walked in and there's a 4 top sushi bar on the left and regular seating on the right. My friend and I opted for the sushi bar. We both got the omakase and decided to try the cooked appetizers and entree! First off, great sushi rice! Right amount of vinegar to compliment the fish, chef jeff knows his stuff. Foie gras is a must!!! Drooling! Miso kana was good! But you can get that everywhere. Ribeye was cooked perfectly but the sauce was a little overpowering, ask for the sauce on the side. It's delicious! Definitely coming back! Service was impeccable, staff was so friendly and helpful! So glad willyb has a good sushi spot now!

Sanjana S.

Yelp
This is a cute little restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg. I came here with a group of 6 people including a 2 year old and the staff was very patient and understanding with us, especially as we made messes on the table with the baby! The food came out very quickly. Some highlights were their edamame and salmon lover's roll. I also tried 2 of their nigiri combos and I wish that it had more flavor. I couldn't get a sense of if they put any type of oil or dressing and I felt like I had to have it with a lot of wasabi, ginger and soy sauce to get any flavor. However, the quantity was great and the prices were reasonable for sushi. We even took some to go and it still tasted great!

Jolie S.

Yelp
They may be the "New Kids on the Block," but you would never know that given their top notch service, and nearly perfect dishes. My water glass was never empty, which to me, is a basic indicator of the overall service you can expect from a restaurant, and IWak did not disappoint. We tried the Shrimp Shumai and Rock Shrimp for our appetizers. The shumai are larger than what is typically served elsewhere, hence the smaller portion. The Rock Shrimp were tasty, although the aioli was a touch on the salty side (perhaps bc it's miso based...) We ordered the Tuna Madness and Killer Scallop signature rolls for our mains, both of which were super fresh, with delicious flavor profiles! We were too stuffed to try dessert, but we will definitely save room the next time we visit this new and sexy sushi spot!

Tori T.

Yelp
I went here with my friend for dinner and we were both extremely impressed. I got the miso soup and it was probably the best miso soup I've ever had. I also did a tuna and a salmon roll with a side of spicy Mayo and it was fantastic, very fresh and a lot of fish. My friend got a special roll and really enjoyed it. The service was good, our waitress was extremely attentive. Highly recommend checking it out!

Claire L.

Yelp
Great experience here! Have been twice in two weeks, the service is great, they are friendly, knowledgeable, and quick without feeling rushed. We had a sashimi plate that was great, interesting bites and great quality. We also had some rolls I can't remember the names of but were really tasty and fresh as well!

Johnny W.

Yelp
The service here is extremely friendly and attuned to providing their customers with the best service possible. They replaced our plates in-between transition from appetizers to entrees, and replaced a plate that seemed a bit stained without us having to say anything, showing that they inspect their silverware thoroughly, which is very considerate of them. Now let's talk about the equally amazing appetizers and entrees. Appetizers: Foie gras with raspberry reduction sauce and figs - very smokey and tender bite of foie gras. It was incredibly rich in flavor, which pairs perfectly with the sauce that accompanied it! We saved some to pair with our steak, which was phenomenal and I definitely recommend it since it was both delicious and a pretty big portion! Torched scallop and fluke - incredibly tangy and sweet, with very fresh scallop and truffle slices to top it off! The fluke was mild in taste, especially in comparison with the incredibly fresh scallop that has a nice bite to it. The tomato and yuzu were both very citrusy and sweet. A perfect melody of flavors! Entree: SuSaMa - a beautiful construction of assorted sushi and sashimi as you can clearly see in the picture! Ours came with o toro whereas others I've seen came with uni. The waiter explained that it depends on what's fresh so you can ask them before you order to see if it's too your liking! Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious; highly recommended! Saikoro steak - incredibly tender filet mignon with a savory soy based sauce that paired perfectly with the mushroom and potato! The sauce infiltrated every piece of the entree and infused it with a sweet ye6 savory flavor. Highly recommend trying this as your main entree, for its incredibly generous and very deliciously filling! Dessert - Ginger and matcha ice cream with banana tempura - the ginger ice cream was a brand new experience for us and wow, it was delicious with actual ginger pieces! Overall, Steve and his colleagues took really good care of us and I will definitely be coming back to try their expansive and ever changing menu, for they are striving to take in customers' feedbacks to better their dishes. Highly recommend giving this relatively new restaurant a try and I promise you won't regret it! P.S. Get the yuzu mock tail, it's delicious! Thanks for reading and good luck!

Branden C.

Yelp
The quality of the fish can't be praised enough. All of their cuts were tender and delicious. I had the grande nigiri and I regret nothing. Their tuna was so fresh it was practically still swimming lol. The best part, the service was amazing. Every server was attentive and kind. I'm definitely coming back with friends and family.

Yelp
Had the WORST experience there. Very bad service! So unprofessional! Had such bad experience there that we left before ordering. We got there asking for a table of 2, but there was only a 4-ppl table open. They hesitantly asked us if we are okay with dining on that big table but would move us to a smaller table once one is open, or if we want to wait for a 2-ppl table. We were confused about this uncommon choice and their own indecision, and the servers just left us to decide. They didn't come back to check on us so we just sat down to wait since we were fine with switching table later. The host came because he noticed no one was helping and sat us at the 4-ppl table. But one of the previous servers noticed this and the two discussed and the host reiterated the situation, albeit he was confused. We were fine with this situation and already came up with what to order when two smaller tables became available. The host asked us to move to a smaller table which we did. But when we moved to one of them, the server asked us to sit at another table instead of the one we sat in, because they "already gave that table" to two other customers who were AFTER us. That just doesn't make sense--why were we left with no choice...? Why is it that the way we (2 Asian faces btw) were treated was so confusing and self-managing but the two white faces after us were treated so differently..? I said you could have just asked all of us to wait outside before assigning any tables, and the server answered annoyed and angry saying that they did ask us if we were okay with temporary seating, and they left us waiting because they "had so much work to do." Girl we were okay with that even when you left us hanging without returning. We were not trying to be difficult. Your attitude just ruined the whole vibe. Such an unprofessional way to handle the situation. It was so confusing and frustrating that I am writing my first ever Yelp review just to recover from this distasteful experience. We regret not getting the name of that server. Would not eat there as long as she works there. Such a shame cuz I was genuinely looking forward to their food. I don't know if this story was told properly. Maybe it is impossible...

B G.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! The service was attentive, friendly and fast. Food? My goodnesss, where do I begin? The appetizer Uni Gyu was beyond excellent, tender, flavorful and probably the best thing my boyfriend and I have ever eaten! Wow! We also got the salmon appetizer and the spicy yellow tail roll and the shrimp tempura with eel roll, both were delicious and fresh. Highly highly recommended if you are in the area!

Daniel K.

Yelp
One thing I hate about Williamsburg is the lack of mid tier quality sushi. The majority of sushi joints in Williamsburg all buy from the same wholesaler. With that said, I'm shocked with the quality of iWak's fish. Price justifies quality here.

Lein And Bein N.

Yelp
This restaurant could absolutely be included on a Michelin guidebook. The yellowtail and tuna appetizer was absolutely fantastic. The sauce was delicate and complimented the fresh fish perfectly. The miso soup had a rich flavor that is unlike other miso soups I've had. The sushi rolls were flavorful and the rice was moist. The restaurant staff did a great job catering towards my sesame allergy. We will be coming back! 5/5.

Zoro R.

Yelp
The food at Iwak was so good! We were beyond impressed by the presentation and quality of the food. All the dishes were delicious and the vibes were immaculate. We highly recommend coming and giving them a try. You won't regret it! Our server is so amazing too !

Tara G.

Yelp
Really creative recipes and incredibly beautiful presentation. Service was fabulous. There was a nice open air feel to the restaurant. Some of the best sushi I've had in a long while!

Tony K.

Yelp
Food was good, sashimi was alright but the steak was very nicely prepared. Restaurant was quite empty, doesn't seem to be too busy usually and the servers are great.

Jordy A.

Yelp
Easily the best sushi delivery experience I've had in quite some time. Every single thing we got was delicious.

Laura C.

Yelp
3.5 stars for our first try. Firstly let me preface that the waitress offered free sake for a good review which we declined. We started with a gimlet (non virgin) and proceed to appetizers. Gyoza needed more cook time as they were pale and look almost steamed rather than pan fried but they were pan fried ever so lightly. The shumai not pictured were just regular. The chicken katsu appetizer was dry and bland. So these apps for us were womp womp. The crispy tuna that was by far my favorite of the evening. They were bite sized and perhaps my only constructive criticism for these would be the form of the crispy rice instead of a rice ball I would have opted for a rectangular form but the topping was nice and this was flavorful. We all ordered rolls. So you will see on their menu the Tres Amigos; Big Mac; Three Musketeers etc..these are very typical names of nigiri pieces from places like Sushi by M and to be honest I prefer them in those other establishments. The Big Mac roll was big and great for roll lovers. But all the flavors just mesh into one and you can't tell what is what. The sushi was fresh I must say. Nothing spectacular that would have me driving back to Brooklyn for. The uni piece I ordered was also disappointing for me. I love uni and try to give it a shot at newer places to see where they stand on this for me. Again a place rolls lovers may enjoy. Service was good and place had its appeal. I was disappointed that they try to sweeten you up with sake for a good review. I hate it when I refer to Yelp and always now have to take it was a grain of salt because of the "bought off" great reviews

Chelsea D.

Yelp
Really yummy and quality sushi! A bit overpriced for where it is and that they don't have a liquor license, but very good food.

Randy S.

Yelp
Surprisingly good. Focus on fish quality. I'm not normally a fa of salmon sashimi but this was amazing. Service was top too!

jul j.

Yelp
Really good sushi. I find it's so difficult to find a good sushi spot. There are a lot of blah sushi places and a lot of pricy omakase but not solid simple sushi spots. Well this is it! We had sushi combo, yellowtail roll (fresh but just ping taste wise) and spicy tuna crispy rice. Loved the sushi. Had good selection of fish which was so fresh. The spicy tuna roll that came w it was amazing too. Will def be back.

Richard L.

Yelp
I find a few things laughable with this place, all the 5 star reviews make me scratch my head. I understand the fish is good I won't take away the fact of that. The price to the portions is crazy to me. The sashimi grande is everything but grande, I liked the selection of fish but I really don't see what I paid for. I would love for someone to order the miso mushroom soup and see what $6 gets you, I laughed when I saw it. I'm the last person to talk about money when it comes to food because I careless of the price, but the 74$ I spent didn't get me much. The $13 "regular roll" of yellowtail jalapeño, is a standard $8 roll anywhere. I wouldn't write home about it. Try the place for sure but not something I would probably have again.

Emily H.

Yelp
Fav sushi place I've been to in a while pictured is the Mango Dome (forgot to take pics of the rest). Don't skip out on dessert! Great service and ambiance Obvi can't go wrong w/ the (love the tuna madness) but was blown away by the roasted Brussels sprouts (w/ truffle, parm & ponzu) & the Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna - I will be back

Irv I.

Yelp
Sushi was excellent as was the service . I only wish they'd serve Saki that was the only negative i can think of

Ang M.

Yelp
New fun sushi resto in Williamsburg. Sushi was fresh and they have a great variety of dishes. They even have a superb crispy tuna rice. Staff was friendly. Right now it is BYOB so the check was very inexpensive for us. I hope they do well in the hood.

Tassan J.

Yelp
Great Restaurant and delicious foods Best Yuzu Salmon in Brooklyn The fish is fresh and high Quality

Nina G.

Yelp
We first tried this new spot in Williamsburg by ordering sushi to pick up. We had a very good experience and were surprised how fresh the different fishes were and how the seasoning of each sushi piece was flavoring. It was so good that we decided to come back to have dinner at the restaurant this time. We seated at the counter and had a wonderful dinner, watching and talking to the chef while he was preparing the sushi in front of us. We shared the Grande Nigiri set and then tried uni sushi and eel sushi, everything was again so fresh and delicate. The staff is so welcoming and attentive. They even offered us sautéed Brussels sprouts (they are delicious, you should try them). If you are looking for an excellent and affordable spot to get sushi, this is the place !

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this new Williamsburg location! Great food, good atmosphere, great price point. Would recommend-- SO YUMMY

Jacqueline N.

Yelp
I just stumbled upon this place while on a work trip from LA and let me just say, it was absolutely incredible. They have lots of great sushi options but I got the omakase, which is extremely reasonably priced for the top tier quality. Every single piece of fish had unique flavor that shined and no fishy taste what so ever, even with the uni which tends to be too fishy for me but theirs was perfection. If you are looking for your new omakase go-to spot, this is 100% it. Service was fantastic as well and everyone in the restaurant is extremely nice and they have great hospitality. Cannot recommend enough.

David A.

Yelp
New sushi in Williamsburg! Awesome quaint spot with some of the freshest seafood I've had in the area. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts and the sexy yellowtail roll. On top in the picture is the 3 musketeers roll. Would recommend as well but preferred yellowtail

Aaron W.

Yelp
Our meal was incredible! I highly recommend the grilled steak on a skewer topped with a dollop of uni on each piece. It was fantastic!

Nita S.

Yelp
Great experience! All of the foods from the sushi bar to the kitchen are tasty and amazing. Service is top notch, very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this new hidden gem for people whose looking for an affordable modern sushi spot in Brooklyn. Will definitely be back!

Zoe C.

Yelp
Truly a hidden gem in Williamsburg! It's not everyday that you find a great spot like this that serves traditional dishes - like A5 Wagyu, signature sushi rolls, and Foie Gras - with a creative twist, which is always refreshing to see. Not only was their food amazing and mouthwatering, but the level of detail they put into each of their dishes and decor really adds to the dining experience - not to mention their staff was very attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend giving this place a try. You will not be disappointed!

Julia G.

Yelp
Incredible service and atmosphere! Planning my next dinner here already. The food was great!

Chris L.

Yelp
Delicious, authentic sushi spot that is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. Presentation and service were on point too.

Deasy N.

Yelp
was strolling around Greenpoint and we were craving for sushi so we googled what's good around this area and we found this little gem! Beyond happy with the food and service . I don't usually write a review but this place need more recognition also their menu is hella cool! like literally they are using an ipad . If you are around this area you should consider stopping by

Colton W.

Yelp
What I tried: Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Narita Roll, and Crunchy Spicy Shrimp Avocado. Overall I loved the place, the atmosphere is great, food is really good, and the staff is extremely friendly. I definitely recommend it for anyone in the area.

Nectar S.

Yelp
Modern interiors, food was fresh and the staff was really friendly and accommodating.
