"Izzy’s is a Westside staple and one of the only full-service restaurants in Santa Monica that’s open 24 hours. Walking into this Wilshire spot on a late Saturday night is like stepping into a random diner on the Upper East Side. Expect elderly couples reading the newspaper and eating matzo ball soup, workers filling up on big plates of eggs before a night shift, and underage kids who are still a little too drunk to be seen at their parents’ house. Get the turkey pastrami." - Brant Cox

"Izzy’s Delicatessen in Santa Monica, a classic Jewish deli, has permanently closed. The deli, which opened in 1973, had been a staple in the seaside city offering pastrami sandwiches, knishes, and other all-day classics. Owner Izzy Freeman decided to retire after facing difficulties during the pandemic." - Matthew Kang

"We’re up here on 15th and Wilshire. Luckily, they left us alone. They ransacked the Rite-Aid a block away, and they ran through the Gap store on 18th and Wilshire." - Eater Staff

*sigh I was so excited about this place. We actually even detoured from the place we were headed-to; I am an East-coast girl at heart still, so diners are very nostalgic for me and generally are reliable for a decent meal. This place is coasting by on it's history but it's overpriced mediocracy, at best. So, so disappointing. Disappointing doesn't even cover it, actually. There is nothing worse than looking forward to a great meal out, checking out the options, selecting a place and committing to it, and then the food arrives and either at first glance or taste you know you're already disappointed and it's already too late. And you have to pay for that. The restaurant has shabby-chic look, without the chic. Look - it's fine to hold onto that 'original' retro look, I actually love it when places stay more true to their distinctive original vibe, but faded and dirt-embedded isn't a vibe. Service was not the worst, definitely not the best; many mistakes were made. It was the food though, the food, that made me want to cry. Awful just doesn't and can't fully encompass how terrible it was, from the drinks to the food, all of it. Flavorless, colorless, soulless, worthless. Please don't go here, you'll be sad too. It'll be so sad all around. We've been to a lot of food places, a. lot; we agree this is and remains the worst meal we've ever had, ever.

This must be only of the old fashion NYC Style Deli in LA, Open 24 Hours, very old style menu, simple food and huge portions, Pastrami was very good, the chopped liver very classic. If you looking for a health late bit, where this is not the plante, but if you looking for good food and large portions,,, no questions you should try this

Huge sandwiches (meat was tender) and great soup options. Soup was over salted but flavor was delicious. Huge portions, definitely shareable.

They nail the deli standards: pickles & portions. 👌 bonus lovely service & open 24/7 including holidays. How can you ever feel alone again.

I ordered the Corned beef Reuben and it was pretty decent. The matzo ball soup was subpar and I wouldn’t recommend it at all, not even to curb a craving. This place is ok, but I feel it has seen better days.

I used to live in Brentwood and would eat here once in a while. I'm a huge Curb Your Enthusiasm fan, and a lot of my friends work in film and tv location departments, so I kinda pay attention to restaurants and stuff in tv shows. I remembered Larry David and Jerry Seinfel argued in a window booth here while Richard Lewis was waiting. Awesome late night place. The service was easily some of the best I've had in LA! Btw, the service at Comfort LA was great too. I got a couple cups of coffee, a bit pricey, but hey, they got rent and staff to pay. Plus they're open late night. They gave us extra pickles for free too. I got the pastrami and Chopped Liver sandwich in rye w a side of potato salad. Looking forward to coming back here to try more food.

Stopped in for a late night supper. Went with the stuffed cabbage, small side salad and veggie medley. It was delicious! Ordered a side of their deli rye bread with whipped butter to properly get every last bit of the gravy. Perfect late night meal - not too much, great taste, with enough room left for some strawberries and whipped cream for dessert. Thank you Izzy's! I will be back.

So glad I walked up the street from my Dr. appt. and discovered this place!! My only regret is not ordering the Pastrami! Had the chili dog with some fries and an iced tea. Service was awesome! I read up on the history while I ate and felt like a part of it just being there. I went to my appointment and came back to order dessert. The gentlemen at the counter pointed out all the go-to desserts for me and I even had help with my selections by a lady from New York that's a regular! I bought $26 worth of desserts alone to bring home to the family and hour and a half east. Definitely going back for rou d 2!
