"The weekly food schedule at Wynwood’s J Wakefield is more stacked than the VIP list at a Bad Bunny concert. The laidback Star Wars and Marvel-themed brewery hosts some of the city’s best pop-ups, which rotate often but include names like Wolf of Tacos and Ted’s Burgers. Their Instagram is your best bet for finding out who will be there and when. The outdoor picnic tables are perfect for enjoying a smash burger and a very Miami-named beer while that one friend goes on about how, actually, Darth Vader was really just misunderstood." - isabel maza, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino
"Fans of beer, Star Wars, or reasonably chill bars where you can actually hear the person next to you will probably enjoy J Wakefield. And if you happen to like all three, you’re going to love it. J Wakefield is a small brewery covered in murals of Star Wars characters (including a Baby Yoda dumpster in the front). It’s a simple space with indoor and outdoor seating. There’s always a good selection of rotating beers, and also an incredible smash burger pop-up, Ted’s Burgers, that flips patties outside on Sundays." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"A Star Wars-themed brewery in Wynwood best known for its Florida weisse–style beers that use local tropical fruits announced it will close on October 27 after nearly a decade. The founder, Johnathan Wakefield, says the decision was driven by the global pandemic, rising rents, reduced foot traffic and street closures from construction that eroded the neighborhood’s earlier walkable, creative energy; the team tried cost-saving measures (like closing Mondays) but the numbers didn’t add up. While the Wynwood taproom will shut, core beers such as El Jeffe and Hop for Teacher will continue to be brewed and distributed, and Wakefield is looking for a smaller-scale production model with contract brewing and a taproom paired with a permanent restaurant (no more food trucks or pop-ups). Plans include a October goodbye blowout with industry friends, photographing the iconic Star Wars murals for possible prints, and offering the giant Han Solo–in–carbonite communal table to anyone interested." - Laine Doss
"One of the neighborhood’s original breweries is also home to the best rotation of nightly dinner pop-ups featuring some of the city’s most talked-about new spots. The lineup changes frequently, so check out its social media for the latest schedule, but expect appearances by Ted’s Burgers, the Wolf of Tacos, and more." - Eater Staff
"Fans of beer, Star Wars, or reasonably chill bars free from house music will probably enjoy J Wakefield. And if you happen to like all three, you’re going to love it here. J Wakefield is a small brewery covered in murals of Star Wars characters (including a Baby Yoda dumpster in the front). It’s a simple space, but there's always a good selection of rotating beers, and also an incredible smashburger pop-up, Ted’s Burgers, that flips patties outside on Sunday. The inside is small but there are picnic tables out front where you can eat, drink, and stare at Dumpster Baby Yoda." - Ryan Pfeffer
