The Best Coffee Shops & Cafes In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This sprawling Bridgeport coffee shop has a patio and spans multiple rooms—all of which feature hilarious and unsettling decor like a poster of a bloodthirsty zombified Thumper from Bambi, and disembodied arms sticking out of a wall (holding a coffee cup, of course). But besides the entire sale section of a Spirit Halloween, you’ll also find wifi, plenty of tables, good coffee, and a few baked goods and sandwiches at Jackalope." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru

Absolute gem of a place. Tucked just off Halstead on a section of 32nd that dead ends, this cafe has both great food and coffee, but also good decor and a solid community feeling. There's a wide variety of seasonal drinks ontop on the standard fair. On top of that are a selection of good pastries and unique hot sandwiches. In the front is a small merch shop and their brands that are co branded with Hexe. Decor is all horror / spooky themed with a dash of punk. Very worth your while to go out of your way to visit.

The team of individuals were sweet and kind, great collaboration, communication and diligence. Location is what I’d consider to be a hidden gem. Prices are average for coffee chains/shops. Coffee 6/10 (bitter and lacked flavor despite asking for drink to be on sweeter side), breakfast sandwich 8/10

Jackalope is my go-to for a chill coffee run in the Loop. Their lattes are fire — nice and strong, with just the right amount of froth. I grabbed a panini the other day, and honestly, it hit the spot; crispy on the outside and loaded with flavor inside. The vibe is real cozy, with a cool mix of colors that just makes you wanna stay. Prices are pretty reasonable, usually about $10-15 for a drink and a snack. The staff’s always friendly and efficient, which makes the experience even better. If you’re looking for a solid spot to fuel up, this place has you covered.

Had the dirty horchata and it was good. Cinnamon forward, less so on the ricey starchy goodness of a horchata. But it was fine. We also got a breakfast sandwich and the signature jackalope sandwich. I was shocked at how small the sandwiches were. The breakfast sandwich was okay, just a little small. The jackalope? I don’t mind paying $8 for a sandwich. But not when it’s two pieces of thin bacon, one thin slice of tomato, and a small bit of cheese and jam. It tasted good and was very fresh, and I loved the pretzel bun! But there was nearly nothing to the sandwich. Maybe we just had an off one, idk it’s possible! The vibes are good. This is definitely a cafe where you can hang out and either work or chat with friends. So that was appreciated.

I was viewing an apartment down the street and really needed to use the restroom and a cup of coffee sounded nice, so I stopped by Jackalope. And I was pleasantly surprised by the whole vibe and aesthetic of the place. It reminded me of when I lived in Austin, TX or Portland, OR. People of all types were hanging out and enjoying their morning. I asked about the area and the folks working there were extremely friendly and informative. I really hope we get the apartment in the area. The Jackalope felt like one of those truly neighborhood places that people come to meet and congregate. I hope to return soon and often.

I’m a local who’s lived near Jackalope for many years. The place is fine if you like gentrified coffee shops but I think it’s a shallow excuse for a local cafe. I’ve gone here a few times and every time I’m disappointed by my experience. The staff always treat you like they’re trying to get rid of you as fast as possible, and they hardly make eye contact or even say anything besides “what do you want.” And it’s never busy when I go - it just seems like the staff hates people. Why would you work at a coffee shop if you don’t like talking to people? Plus, the sandwiches and coffee are subpar. My drink was more than 50% ice, and they forgot to add the syrup I wanted. And I still got charged for it. I used to like the Jackalope sandwich, but this last time I was so underwhelming I let my dog eat it. I’ll probably never shop here again, because why would I want to spend my money at an establishment that 1) doesn’t respect my time, and 2) doesn’t even taste that good. The only redeeming quality of this place is that it seems to sell local artists’ artwork but there wasn’t any advertisement making it clear what the art was.

This is one of my favourite places in Bridgeport. I have met a lot of people here, I have finished a few books here and spent a lot of time at this shop. The staff has always been pleasant to me. The ambiance makes Jackalope an eccentric place. This eccentricity is what makes this place better than a lot of other cafés.

We stumbled across this awesome coffee place this afternoon and decided to try it. Great spot for good coffee and some quick bites. Absolutely loved the quirky ambience here. The baristas were very nice and polite. Will definitely visit again.
