The 21 Best Bars In SF - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"At this Lower Nob Hill dive, there’s always something to do. Thursday trivia nights, old-school Nintendo games like Street Fighter and Duck Hunt, and perhaps the most fun (depending on your fate) is the Plinko board. For $11, you can let the board decide your future drink—perhaps a bottle of mid-market champagne, or maybe a shot of Jägermeister. Be forewarned that complaining or bargaining for something else is not tolerated." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

Just a killer bar. Drinks are always solid, the atmosphere is always fun and the bartenders make sure to keep it a welcoming spot. Trivia nights are a must. Definitely worth checking out—just get there early if you want a good seat!

My fave spot on Polk St. Met the queen herself, and the tiny Asian was giving. I came alone— and left feeling like my dad never did. I’m moving to sf. Peace out I’m obsessed

I came here last night with some friends, and the vibe was just perfect. They had some 90's throwback music on a Sunday night, and it wasn't crowded. Love the low lit atmosphere and decor! For any gamers, there's some arcades that we saw. We hungout at the high tables and our server was so sweet. She surprised us with some fun cocktails! We'd definitely come back.

Google
Great local bar, various deals during the week on drinks. Mules on tap, Russian, Irish and Mexican, all are really delicious. Also check out their Plinko Drinko game if you want something random to drink.

This is such a cool bar, HIGHLY recommend to tourists and locals alike. Good prices on highballs and beer, free wifi, super nice staff, great 90s oldie music, and they have a sort of loft at the back where you can go upstairs and play an old Super Nintendo with your friends. AWESOME bar.

Cool post show vibes at 11.00PM. Friendly staff, good music, chill crowd.

Beware: The bar tenders will overcharge your tip! They assume you won't remember the final amount, and they add the tip as per their wish. I had a bad experience, hence tipped 10% (because the bar tender was rude). I took a picture of the receipt because I suspected he might do something like this - and I had guessed right - the amount on my card was higher than what I had tipped. Edit: Adding additional photo with the GPS tag of the previous photo, showing indeed it was at your establishment. With tip added, the amount was 21.53 -> So you may search for that amount instead of 19.53 (The base amount).

I have been raving about this place for weeks, so figured I should write a review. I live in Denver but have a jackalope obsession, so this has been on the list a while and I was very excited to learn it was near my hotel on a recent trip. I spent HOURS here having an absolute blast. Javi is the perfect bartender/host- he was super helpful/attentive, so much fun and introduced me to some great people at the bar! The plinko drinko game was hilarious- no ragrets with the hand grenade I had to suck down (thank gawd for high altitude drinking chops). Great beer selection for the number of taps they had, too. And of course the decor was everything I could have asked for as a 'lope enthusiast. I wanted to come back but ran out of time. Next time, Jackalope.

Yelp
Great vibe and people and bartenders--thank you, owner Javi! They also support a lot of local organizations and groups. Sometimes they are guest bartenders (guided by Jackalope staff) and a portion of the proceeds from the night go to that group! Love the plinko board and TVs. It can be packed, but if you time it right, you can snag a seat. Drinks are great. Location is great--you can bike here on Polk, a major bike lane street! It's also walkable and near quite a few bus lines. I keep coming back! They also have trivia on Thursdays and games!
google avatar

Yelp
Very chill little spot for drinks they also have plinko and darts for a little extra fun. The bartenders were nice and personable but I can't vouch for mixed cocktails because we had beers. The music was good, they have TVs and it was a younger chill crowd. The area isn't too sketch so I'd pop in again for drinks with friends.

Yelp
What a fun bar! My friends hosted his birthday party here and it was so neat that they made it a private event! Loved the ambiance here with the string and dimmed lighting, massive antelope decoration in the middle of the bar, and a cool second story lounge area upstairs with video games! Plenty of tv screens to watch things. I requested for a spicy margarita and the bartender made me one off the menu. She asked if I liked mango and honestly, this was one of the best spicy margaritas I've had! She definitely understood the assignment about making it spicy because she rimmed the glass with tajin and garnished with a jalapeno slice! I think we were both shocked how well it turned out considering she didn't have a recipe and used what was available. 10/10! I loved that they had this game with dropping a ball into numbered slots. My friend gave me one to play and I antiskid won the champagne bottle #9! That was super fun!

Yelp
Probably my favorite bar in SF. The plinko board downstairs pulls my friends and I in most weekends and I always love being able to go upstairs and play wii too. If you go at the right time its not too busy either which is real nice. Drinks are pretty affordable as well!

Yelp
Stopped here on a Saturday night. The vibe was hopping and not too noisy. The bartender was personable. I had beer, so I can't speak to the cocktails. There's inside and outside seating. And, it was a blast watching people play Plinko to win such fabulous prizes as tequila shots, PBR tall boys, and more tequila shots. I'd recommend this place for a drink of your in the neighborhood.

Yelp
The Jackalope was most definitely the worst experience i ever had in any city. The lady bartender with all the tattoos i beleive works on friday nights. Shes very rude, and i don't think she likes tourists. i am far from a bum .And how dare her to call the police/paremedics on me. i tipped her 35.00 dollars on a 23.00 dollar drink tab.even though she was horrible.
google avatar

Yelp
Jackalope is a fun bar to hit on Polk if you aren't sure where to go! The Plinko board is a unique way to pick your drink if you're unsure what to get or want to leave it up to fate. There is also an upstairs with a Wii if you want to game! The manager, Javier, is very friendly and kind and introduced himself to us while we were there.
google avatar

Yelp
Chill, mixology vibes, slight rustic look. Bartender was welcoming, BOGO shots from 5-7 for happy hour during the week. Didn't see any food available so that doesn't apply. All n all I enjoyed it and plan to return soon now that I'm mobile. Prices weren't outrageous either.

Yelp
Jackalope is a small but mighty bar. The space is minimal so it'll get cozy, but they have a few elements that make it stand out from the rest. First, there's a crow's nest area that you should take over as soon as you get there. They have a couple of screens where you can play old-school video games including Duck Hunt. For $11, you can play Plinko-Drinko with the best prize being a bottle of champagne IMHO. I rented out the bar for my birthday, and it was a lot of fun! I don't even remember them charging me a minimum, but this was pre-pandemic. If you're hitting up a concert at The Regency, it's a great place to pre-game.

Yelp
We love this bar! The bartenders are so friendly, always looking out for the patrons, and they have fun games like Plinko and some video games in the nice nook area upstairs!!

Yelp
Bar is great. Jess sucks. A good bartender makes the bar. Love the overall ambience though!

Yelp
My review is only based on the experience I received at this bar on Saturday Dec, 17th. I was here with a group of 6 hoping to get drinks while we waited for a table at Kuma Sushi. The female bar tender was going around like chicken with no head behind the bar. There were only about 10 other people inside the establishment. We waited for about 15 minutes standing at the bar as she was serving another group of four whom appeared to be her friends. After the long wait, when we finally make contact with her she said, "I am pretty busy and got a lot of drinks to make". We were surprised by what she said, but just by looking at her, we concluded that she had no interest in serving us. After 25 minutes, we finished 6 cups of their self service free cucumber water and walked out with out being served. By the time, we got to Kuma, we were glad that not a single penny of our hard earn money went to her. On top of it, we got the whole thing on camera. Yes, we won't be coming back here.

Yelp
happened upon this spot looking for our first cocktail upon arriving in the city. one of the owners (javier) was behind the bar - what an awesome guy! great conversation, fantastic old fashioneds, and we tried the drinko plinko and totally won. y'all boys and a shot of jame-o for $11! we will 100% be back.
google avatar

Brianna C.

Yelp
What a fun idea yet such a simple one. You pay $11 for a pong ball, test your luck, and get a great drink afterwards. The rest of the bar could be done up a little more, and music choice could be better, but drinks and service are amazing!

Yelp
"Every Thursday night, there is a Trivia night (sometimes it's canceled because of the host's absence and you can check the status on their instagram) and we went as a group of 15+ people. Usually, everyone gets there around 8pm and the Trivia starts sometime between 8:00-8:30pm. There are 4 rounds - current news, entertainment (usually movies), music, and general knowledge, and it usually lasts 2-2.5 hours. We occupied the second floor balcony where the old play station video game is located with couches and participated in the Trivia. The first floor was pretty crowded and it as hard to get around especially with drinks but that was explaining how much the place and the Trivia was popular so I took it as a positive sign. The view from the second floor was nice and we were able to see the entire bar with the nice background wall filled with a lot of liquor bottles which was beautiful. Some of us got beer and the taste was fine but the bar tender and the Trivia hosts were so nice, which made our experience satisfying - and what's better, we won the Trivia! We got $50 voucher for the next visit and the host offered to take a group picture for us, which was nice. This would definitely be my weekly activity."

Yelp
Best Trivia night in the city I have been to so far. Well thought out rounds with great questions and it's always poppin. They have plinko too which is always a good time (Won 2 bottles of champagne in 1 night). Highly recommend

Yelp
Great vibes, great drinks, love the people. Ask for a tequila old fashion they know what they're doing

Yelp
Favorite bar in the city. Great atmosphere, fantastic, attentive staff. Especially love Thursday trivia nights. Javi is the best in the business!

Yelp
Nope. Went there after work around midnight with two of my coworkers and ordered three drinks (cocktails). My order was accepted with the biggest and most annoyed eye roll I've ever seen. We enjoyed our drinks and decided to order another round. This time the other bartender took my order after trying to get her attention for about 10 minutes. The bar was busy, but not packed, so the wait time was not based on the amount of purple at the bar. After taking my next order of drinks, the bartender walked away and I was looking forward to enjoy another cocktail with my coworkers. Sadly that wasn't going to happen since the bartender decided ton rather take shots with guests and completely disregarded my order for the next 5 minutes at least. So the first bartender showed up again and asked me if I needed anything and I mentioned to her that I had ordered another round of the same drinks. This was received with another dramatic eye roll. At that point I felt almost guilty to ask for drinks at this bar and pay AND tip I received the second round after roughly 15 minutes. We decided to order one more round before closing and guess what... the eye roll was even worse. *excuse me for ordering drinks at your bar and paying you a tip* When we received our last drinks and asked for the check, both bartenders started doing karaoke for the next ten minutes and the door guy told us to leave since it was closing time - we informed him that we had been trying to pay our bill for the last 15 mins. So the gentleman at the door went to bartenders and asked them to give us our check... This bar is actually really nice - but if they would have bartenders who actually cared about ALL patrons and do their job they get paid for, this bar would make so much money. We would have ordered more drinks if the bartenders actually would have been attentive, and I am very confident that the bars revenue would spike with "actual bartenders"

Yelp
Nice small bar with Jackalope decorations on the wall. They have a small balcony upstairs with retro games hooked up to the TV that's wired to another TV on the main floor so people can watch the video games being played. I like to get the Irish mule here because they have it premade on tap and it's fast to order. Just wished it costed less than ~$12 for it.
google avatar

DeShar C.

Yelp
if you are looking for a small bar to watch the game or grab a couple of drinks for GREAT PRICES, this is IT! the guy behind the bar was amazing and had great service! i was the only one on the end so he put the football game on for me! THEY DON'T SERVE FOOD but you can bring outside food there which is pretty cool because there are numerous options for food around the area!

Wendy N.

Yelp
I went in last night 9/8 requested a drink and the bartender did not know how to make it. I told her step by step how to make it. When I requested a second one she refused to make it because I didn't "tip her"the first time. To me she should of know how to make a basic drink and be thankful that I taught her how to make a new one. But no, she refused to make a second one with a smile on her face. Will not be returning here. ( she was the Asian bartender) we were a group of 6 and she did get tipped on a second transaction. We instantly walked out.
google avatar

Kiyomi K.

Yelp
It's a pretty chill place to hang with your girls. I'm not the biggest drinker in town, but I had my share of fun at this little bar. I think the prices are reasonable ... nothing will be super cheap now a days. Friendly workers who are willing to ask questions. Overall experience was good. I might come again with a group.
google avatar

Yelp
I got perfect Saturday night because of baternder PAGE saved my day! well-aligned bar !sense of nice cocktails ! Friendly with each customer. Impressive she take care all of customers in the bar! I wish I knew this bar when I was living there years ago

Yelp
Visited Jackalope during SantaCon and it was great! Jackalope was probably the only bar that wasn't charging for a cover at 7pm so my group decided to spend our money here instead of paying for a cover somewhere else! The bartenders are really great here. Even though the place was packed, the bartenders were taking everyone's order super quick and it didn't seem like anyone had to wait a long time for drinks.

Jaquelyne S.

Yelp
Recently had the best mojito of my life here, when my fiance and some friends stopped in while waiting for a seat at a nearby restaurant.

Monsieur J.

Yelp
After two bad experiences here I can say without a doubt Jackalope does NOT like black patrons. You know how you come into a bar and just know the energy is bad? I came in tonight and the bartender behind the bar (white girl with dark hair) ignored me for several minutes before eventually giving me her attention. I asked for a drink menu which she provided but after I asked for a canned drink, I asked her what flavors do you have? " I don't know, it's a bunch of stuff in there" and walked away. I then asked her if she could look. She did and then immediately closed out my tab without a word. I asked her if she was comfortable serving me and she barely looked me in the eye before asking the Asian bartender at the end of the bar( who funny enough was the last bartender i dealt with there who was just horrible)what my problem was. I eventually asked for a refund and promised myself I would not return there. Please don't patronize this bar if you are BIPOC they neither want nor care for your money. San Francisco has fallen off.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
Dear Jackalope management, asked a staff member for more toilet paper but he told me there's a porter potty outside. Straight up rude and disrespectful. Here's a pic to prove the filthy bathroom. Cheers to the porter potty outside.
google avatar

Nancy L.

Yelp
Plink plink plinko! $11 to try your hand at plinko and win everything from shots of Tequila to something called Unicorn Tear? Some will be lucky and others, will not. It's great if you can get 4 shots of whisky or shots and another go at the game. BUT, if you're stuck drinking something called Motor Oil, it wouldn't be a very memorable night. Pretty cool spot on Polk, definitely crowded but drink prices here are average. It can get pretty stuffy in there though.

Jake M.

Yelp
Phenomenal weeknight vibe with the most friendly bartender! Highly recommended, check it out when you can!
google avatar

Elaine T.

Yelp
Jackalope is almost always the first bar I start out at whether I'm bar hopping or not. I especially love Plinko because you never know what drink you're going to get; it's a really fun surprise to see what you'll end up with while friends cheer you on. There are even some retro video & arcade games you can play. Really chill atmosphere and one of my favorite bars to go to! Will always be back. :)
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
This place so noisy it's the scourge of the neighborhood !!!How are we supposed to get our rest at night ?
google avatar

Marlon T.

Yelp
Jackalope is the epitome of an honest non-trashy bar in the TL where trendy finance/tech folks can flock for refuge from the bustle of the city. I was recently here to watch Game 3 of the NBA 2017 Finals and it was pretty damn crowded--we're talking butt to nut. I haven't been here on a non-busy day so I imagine I would've had more fun not stuck in the corner. The drinks are decently good and priced. The bartenders were friendly. I liked the Plinko game thing ($11) where you drop a ball through a gauntlet of obstacles and wherever it lands corresponds to what drink you get. If you're looking for a straight randomly-themed drinking establishment in the TL, this place is for you.
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
This place will get better I have a feeling. It is owned by the same people who own Soda Popinski's (which I love) The happy hour 2 for 1's have not hit here yet, but the bartender says they are coming...along with specialty drinks. It needs a paint job too. The do have the FRESH squeezed Grapefruit juice which i super enjoy (does't it negate the effects of alcohol?)
google avatar

Yelp
Don't worry Cory, I'll just pass on you & and dishonest employees. But for the record, I did ask the lady, but she seemed to "not be able to hear" my question. It's no big deal, I try to support local business instead of chains, but I'll stay clear of YOU & your staff simply because you would rather write a long counter review than to reach out directly and apologize or explain the situation. We all have choices in life, I choose to spend my money elsewhere. See ya!

Fola G.

Yelp
Bartenders here are very very welcoming. Great vibes and perfect cocktails!!! My spot whenever I'm in the area.
google avatar

Alice L.

Yelp
This place is a solid 3-Star spot! I've been here a couple times and went back here for the first time this year for a friend's birthday celebration. My friend reserved the upstair area for the party. However, even though it had a fan, it got really hot, so we eventually moved the party downstairs. They also have video games sat up but they are always not working and the staff member couldn't fix it. This seems to be the case every time I visit. Also I believe you need to order enough drinks so you don't get charged extra for using that upstair space. They have one bathroom for both men and women. The line moved pretty quickly and was surprisingly clean. Drinks here are pretty reasonably priced. I paid $13 for two drinks (Jameson and Ginger and a Vodka Soda). Oh, and I love the giant jackalope decoration!
google avatar

Mara M.

Yelp
I really liked this place! The Plinko is fun, the bartenders are nice and the art is super cool! A far cry from the other crazy bars on Polk like McTeague's, Maye's or Playland. Definitely recommend checking this place out!
google avatar

Kate W.

Yelp
10/5. This bar is the spaghetti party of bars. Great people. Great ambiance. Great music. #spaghettiparty
google avatar

Yelp
Oh Jackalope, you had potential. Your guest bartenders failed, hard. While a good concept, you bring in these 'guest bartenders' to serve cocktails for a few hours, invite their friends in, and then the money goes to charity. But, as a former bartender, this is an awful idea. What about that poor guy who is actually the bartender, getting slammed with cocktails during the 2 for 1 happy hour on a nice day. What about the fact that this 'guest bartenders' are not even sure how to pour a beer so you are paying for a little beer and a lot of head/foam. And these 'guest bartenders' who are too busy talking to all of their friends coming in to visit they can't pay attention to actual customers... Aside from the fact that the happy hour is a great deal and this place is pretty close to my house, I would not be back with a guest bartender, possibly a happy hour one day to give it a real shot.

Yelp
Great awesome bar on Polk! These guys can make a damn good drink. We came here on a Friday right after work and this place was fairly packed with most of the seats taken. There was one bartender at the time and he handled the bar by himself before we left, which is extremely hard to do by yourself! We were greeted properly and when he had a big order in front of us, told us that he will take our orders first but make theirs first - which was cool because he kept a positive attitude! We ordered two rounds of the Honey Mee and it's like gods nectar, super good and it's one of those cocktails where I feel like if I get a sore throat - it'll heal me. Definitely one of the to go joints if you are in the area - weird things do happen though if you sit by the window, it is close by to the tenderloin after all.
google avatar

Charissa H.

Yelp
I had an awesome experience at Jackalope! Great drinks, great people, great vibe. I really liked their mules and beer selection. Trivia night was really well done - it was challenging but really fun. They gave out shots along the way for the winning team, and gave a generous $50 gift certificate for winning! The owner Javier is great. I accidentally forgot my credit card at the bar, and he went out of his way to make sure I got it back. I really appreciate it! Although I don't live in SF, I'm going to make a point to visit Jackalope whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
The vibes here are awesome. Each bar along polk has such character and attracts a wide variety of clientele, and this place is not too douche-y, not too party-y, and not too quiet-y. I hate walking into a bar and realizing I'm surrounded by dads, and this place definitely attracts a younger crowd, though I did see a few dads sprinkled here and there. Kinda small, but it wasn't overly packed for 11pm on a Saturday. Javier behind the bar is super nice, and one of the locals I sat next to couldn't stop complimenting him on his refined bartending techniques. They have a themed cocktail list, and I tried the chupacabra ($10) which seemed the most similar to a margarita. Sippity sip sip it was delicious. Didn't get a chance to try Plinko game on the wall, but definitely will next time. Absolutely zero complaints about this place, and if I lived slightly closer I would definitely be a regular. Its clean and there's activities. What more could you want.

Yelp
Another spot by the people who brought you my 2nd, 5th and 13th favorite bar names in SF. The three spots may be identified by: 1. 25-cent Wing Night (with two drinks) on Wednesday. Animal is the drummer. 2. Nintendo. Wheel-o-drinks. 3. (Semi-?) Ironic reference (/homage?) to the previous bar, where I spent my formative first few months 'hooding it up with Tech Developers and Yo-Pros. Also, a REALLY good Bloody Mary. Put that in your Carnac envelope. ..."What are three other bars brought to you by folks who have Jackalope?" This used to be Mark's - on Polk/Post. The owner sold it, and now it is Jackalope. I've been in a few times - so far, pretty vanilla, but I love the space and the vibe. The re-do is in the works. If there's one thing I've learned from their bars, they know how to add value and create good spots. I talked with one of the bartenders, who was really personable. I'm really excited to see this place evolve, especially since this is even closer down Polk towards my office. It sure worked well with 5:07pm World Series starts. They have a cool little hide-a-way upstairs. The sign I just walked by the other day mentioned a Duck Hunt lounge. I need to find out what that means.

Yelp
Jackalope has the best bartenders on the block! Great service, delicious drinks, cool vibes, plinko, awesome happy hour... really can't go wrong with a combo like that.
