The 9 Best BBQ Spots In Nashville 2024

"Ask an old-school Nashvillian about their favorite place for brisket, and there’s a 99% chance they’ll say Jack’s—it's been hanging around Broadway since 1989. The Trinity Lane location has better food and less crowds, though. Naturally, you should order the brisket, but don’t overlook the Tennessee pork shoulder—its nicely smoked and shredded to juicy, tender bits. Go ahead and sample each of the homemade sauces, like the mayo-based Music City or the Texas sweet hot which has nabbed Jack’s a few awards. And make sure the cornbread and mac and cheese are in the mix, as both live up to proper Southern standards." - jackie gutierrez jones 2

The Best Barbecue Restaurants in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"This barbecue temple has stood on Broadway since 1989, thriving since long before the area was nightlife central. Jack’s also has two additional locations now: one on Trinity Lane and another in a historic former music club at 1601 Charlotte Avenue. All three share a no-frills vibe and serve the full slate of barbecue styles, from St. Louis to Texas to, of course, Tennessee." - Eater Staff

Where to Eat Gluten-Free in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"This Broadway barbecue spot is pretty savvy about celiac needs — not only are the mouth-watering meats gluten-free, but so are the corn, slaw, beans, potato salad, and all of the sauces. The staff at Jack’s Bar-B-Que take care to change gloves, cutting boards, and utensils for gluten-free diners, so load up on meats and sides and skip the bun. And if you’re not downtown, you’ll find additional Jack’s locations on Charlotte Avenue and Trinity Lane." - Eater Staff

A true temple of smoke, this joint delivers a religious experience for any BBQ aficionado. The brisket is the star of the show – a celestial slab with a peppery, dark bark yielding to impossibly tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef. Each slice is a testament to low-and-slow perfection. Don't dare miss the St. Louis-style ribs; they're a masterpiece of meaty, savory, and sweet. Glazed to a beautiful mahogany, the meat pulls cleanly from the bone with just the right amount of chew. The smoky aroma alone is worth the visit, but the flavors will have you planning your next pilgrimage before you've even paid the bill. This is Nashville BBQ at its absolute finest. And has a drive thru!🇺🇲

Google
Prices went up since last time I was here. At $24 a plate. Should be amazing, it’s good but not that good. Green n potato salad pretty plain. Meat was good, but should be more for the price. Won’t be back. Trinity Ln.

Google
Went out of my way to go to Jack's on my trip North. So worth it. I had brisket, pork shoulder, baked beans, and apples. All were right on. Make sure to get the corn bread. Check out the smoke. That's what you want to see. Enjoy

Google
This is overall my favorite bbq spot in the country. Every time i pass through Nashville it's not even a question if I'm stopping by. I'm making it happen. They have some of the best brisket i've ever tasted. Sweet potatoes, baked beans, and greens are my go to's and they never fail me. I've been here a bunch of times and i will say it's not always top tier, but on a good day, you see exactly why their name has a reputation it does. Truly exceptional barbecue.

Google
Some of the best BBQ I’ve ever enjoyed. High quality, huge portions, and delicious. Tons of sauces to choose from, and no cheap white bread on this BBQ plate. Great service, too. We’ll definitely return next time we’re in Nashville.

Google
We drive a thousand miles to get this good. A barbecue the portions are large. The beans are good. The greens are awesome and the people are friendly and helpful and man they make a mean barbecue

Anthony Lauer

Google
This is the best BBQ restaurant I’ve been to, fantastic all the way around.

Jarod Sadler

Google
In my opinion, it's the best BBQ location in Nashville! The smoked sausage is the best I've ever had. Potato salad is amazing as well. You can go to the Broadway location if you want to but this one is the better of the two. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Togo review: Overall visit 8/10 Order: 2 meat plate comes with 2 sides The meats were good definitely hit the craving however everything was lukewarm and I'm only a 6 min drive from the location. The sides were basic Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and baked beans. The baked beans however were so good! Service was polite are quick. The best part was that they have a drive thru!

Yelp
Jack's Bar-B-Que is a great option for barbecue if you are on this side of Nashville, Tennessee. The place has a great ambiance and vibe for a barbecue restaurant. You know the type, kind of a hole-in-the-wall type place with an eclectic mix of bric-a-brac adorning the walls and they have the prerequisite pig statue. The ordering process is pretty simple. You go.up to the counter and order your meal, they fill your plate, you pay and either take it to-go or sit at a table and enjoy the feast. I went with the pulled pork dinner and for my two sides, I went with turnip greens and potato salad. I also went with Texas toast. I also went over and tried quite a few of their barbecue sauces. They have a table with their sauces available. The pork was fantastic and the sides were pretty good, as well. The staff was friendly and again, the ambiance was definitely enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Jack's Bar-B-Que and I give it five stars.

Yelp
A must stop place for me any time I'm in Nashville!! By far my favorite bbq place in all of TN!! Their Carolina and TN bbq sauce is amazing. Husband and I shared the brisket plate. Plenty of food for us to share. Normally I get my own plate and don't share but we were on a road trip and didn't want to over eat. I've been to both the broadway location and this location. Both places are clean. Will gladly continue to stop by any time I'm in the area!!!

Yelp
I stopped in this Jacks Bar-B-Que location while visiting Nashville for the weekend (From NC). The location was very convenient to our hotel. Being from NC, there is a plethora of good Bar-B-Que, but I know Tennessee also has some good Que so I was intrigued. I ordered the pork BBQ sandwich with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was very good and they have a lot of different sauces you can add to it if you wish. I liked the potato salad also. They have other sides to choose from which looked great such as the baked beans and mac and cheese. I wanted another side, but since they are a la carte and it would have been a bit pricey for lunch. Overall I think Jacks Bar-B-Que was a good choice for a BBQ lunch in Nashville.

Yelp
Overall a place I would go to if I lived in the area. The place was very clean and this was around 1:30 pm after the lunch rush. I stepped up to the counter and It took a few minutes to be greeted. The meat carver seemed annoyed that I even walk in. I ordered a three meat plate of brisket, pork and sausage. The meats, brisket and sausage were cut into very inconsistent and odd shapes. The pork was very moist and delicious 4.5 out of 5. The Sausage was my favorite of all the meats, it had a nice taste of smoke with a good snap from the outer casing 5 out of 5. For me the brisket was fall apart tender, like pot roast, I like mine with a little chew or pull to it and I also felt it lack seasoning 3.5 out of 5. I got two sides with my plate, the mac-n-cheese which was very creamy, the way I like it and not dry at all but needed seasoning to make not taste so bland, 4 out of 5. I also had a side of turnip greens that were tender and delicious, but I needed to add some hot sauce for my liking 4.5 out of 5 This was all served with cornbread probable the driest, most dense cornbread I every had, In fact I could not eat more than a couple of bites, 1 out of 5. All the BBQ sauces that I tried were delicious, well balanced and not over powering to the meats 4.5 out of 5. Will stop in again my next time through town.

Yelp
Yes, just yes... some of the best BBQ I've had!!! A little pricey but you're paying for quality meats. And the staff was super sweet and friendly. Sauces were all amazing, I'm a sauce person through n through!
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
So I may not look much from the outside, but oh my God the food there is amazing the brisket smoked tender melt in your mouth ribs the turkey, the pulled shoulder, pork, barbecue beans, green beans, banana pudding, right down to the sweet tea. Service was amazing and I would definitely be coming back to this place.

Flappy C.

Yelp
Got the Texas Brisket Sandwhich and it's not even close, there was no smoky flavor characterized by brisket. It tasted more like pot roast cause it didn't even have a flavor, just need some carrots and tators and it'll be good. I got the mac and cheese and it tastes like KFC's, for the price it's not worth it. I will say that for the quality and price of the sandwhich, it's okay. But it ain't Texan. Dallas Texan P.S. you bring dishonor on Texas and dishonor on your family.

Yelp
We were in Nashville and found this joint in downtown Nashville. The bbq was good and the brisket was better. The portions were large. I would visit this place again.

Yelp
"They used to have some good ribs back in the day, but when I visited on Monday, 4-21-24, I stopped in and truthfully, it's overdue for a remodeling job. The BBQ ribs were overcooked to the point where the bones turned into mush. It was like eating boneless ribs that had been boiled for 12 hours and then wrapped up in foil for a smoky flavor. I ended up throwing most of it away. By the way, I bought a slab for around $36. I assume this place has been bought out and new owners have it. I don't remember the ribs being in such bad shape."

Mac H.

Yelp
While visiting from out of town, your restaurant came highly recommended. However, the truth is, I received the some of the lowest quality service imaginable. I ordered through DoorDash and upon delivery, more than half of my order (5 sandwiches and sauces) were missing. Luckily, I was only 5 minutes away so I called and arranged to pick up the rest of my order. I drove to the store on Trinity Lane, only to be presented with a cold bag of food with two sandwiches still MISSING! At this point I was so disgusted, I gave up and chalked it up to apathy and a lack of proper training and concern for the customer.

Chris K.

Yelp
Food was delicious, had the smoked brisket and the chicken. Sauces are all good and the sides were good too!!
google avatar

Mike V.

Yelp
Had a great lunch here the other day while working with a business partner in the area. My friend was from South Jersey and wanted to try some good Tennessee BBQ so we came here for Brisket and he loved it. The only downside is that they cut the fat off of the brisket (at least our pieces) before serving us, but it was still very good
google avatar

Lauren N.

Yelp
Ordered brisket and chicken with sweet potato for sides. There was the potential for this to be super fire. But both meats were horrifically dry, the chicken lacking salt as well so pieces of the brisket were seasoned well, others needed salt as well. The sweet potatoes were very yummy. And customer service was awesome, super friendly! I would eat here again in hopes that the meats would be juicy
google avatar

Yelp
Restaurant was wonderful. Food was delicious from meats to sides. The employees were wonderful. So good service. The Ambiance is a home town feeling

Yelp
Yeedoggie...Barbecue at its finest!!! Nashville is on the map for BBQ and this place on W. Trinity is the bombdiggity for BBQ. Good eatin' and really nice people. Say hi to them these nice folks when you stop by. Oh, everythang is good and I mean everything is good!!ChowChow Time!!
google avatar

Yelp
4 stars for convenience and speedy service. The food was fine. I had pork shoulder with Mac and cheese and beans. The cornbread could have had more flavor as well as the meat. Overall, this is a good choice for lunch if you aren't super picky or expecting superb bbq.

Yelp
Great bbq brisket, pulled pork and pork ribs. Friendly service too. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

Yelp
I was visiting Nashville and visiting a bbq restaurant was a must for my trip. I read through reviews on multiple locations and decided to give Jack's a try- I am so glad I did! Immediately upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by the smell of delicious, smoky bbq. My boyfriend and I both opted for the Texas Beef Brisket sandwiches, I had the regular and he had the jumbo. The gentleman helping us was kind enough to trim off some of the fat for me (don't judge, I just don't like fatty meat). We also ordered sides of potato salad, mac and cheese, and pickles. The brisket was so tender and had a delicious, smoky flavor. We tried a variety of sauces, which are kept warm, the XXX-911 was addictive! It was a combo of the Texas and Tennessee sauces with a kick of spice- the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I'm not usually a sauce person, but I was dipping everything in it (including my pickles!). I was tempted to buy a bottle to take home, but I was worried about it breaking in my suitcase. My boyfriend enjoyed the potato salad and the mac and cheese was good- nothing special. The star was definitely the brisket, as it should be. I'd recommend this spot, between the flavor and the price you really can't beat it.

Yelp
In Nashville a few days and wanted some BBQ. I really hope this place is not indicative of the BBQ in the area, the brisket and ribs were drier than the Sahara desert. I don't think I'll ever eat bbq after this place. Horrible horrible food

Royce Y.

Yelp
Absolutely freakin phenomenal from the service to the food, I'm what you would call a bbq connoisseur, I'm from Kansas City and have competed and cook my own Kansas City bbq, I've had tons of Carolina bbq and we currently live in Texas so I've definitely had it. I have to say Tennessee comes in second but barely over Carolina only because I like vinegar over mustard. This place was hands down the best choice for my first Tennessee bbq experience. I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a quick and easy delectable bite.

Yelp
Food is good service good if your close by I recommend it. The food is already prepared no wait

Yelp
Amazing food! Stupid delicious. Every one there was super friendly. Next time I'm in the city I can promise you I will be there to eat

Yelp
Love all their plates...excellent barbecue and awesome sauces! Couldn't recommend Jack's barbecue more. Staff is also very friendly.

Yelp
This place made my visit to Nashville complete. As a Chicago native my bar was set pretty high. The service and atmosphere was GREAT, for a line that went out the door and a location right on broadway, they move quick. Everything is cut in front of you and you can see the slabs of meat being taken out of the smoker. I had the 3 meat tray with ribs, brisket and sausage. Among the best. Don't forget to try their sweet tea!

Beverly C.

Yelp
I don't eat pork, but I sure will eat the beef brisket! Everything I had was good! My husband and I went there before a concert and because of Jack's Bar-B-Que and the concert, we had an amazing whole day! I cherish that day!
google avatar

Hakim M.

Yelp
This place was cool. I got the three meats plate, the seasoning on the ribs and brisket was good, I didn't feel my sausage was cooked properly and my sides were not good... I still would recommend to try it but I heard good thoughts from other people in my group
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
I've tried many of the well known bbq joints in nashville and this place is heads and tails above the other bbq restaurants. I had the brisket and it was phenomenal. I tend to stay away from brisket bc it's dry but this was outstanding. Their sausage is well known and a cult favorite. Their chicken is also darn good! They have about 6 different bbq sauces to chose from as well and all of them were great!
google avatar

G G.

Yelp
Recently stopped in for lunch. Used to frequent more often when I worked on north side of town. It was much better a few years ago. Had a brisket platter with two sides. While the sides were acceptable the brisket was dry and not warm enough. Additionally, while I understand inflation, a lunch platter with sub-par brisket with two sides and a drink for $30 is a joke. I won't be back. Much better choices out there. Good luck in the future. Sorry to see this landmark go downhill fast.

Yelp
Craving some Nashville BBQ, we swung through this place's drive thru after finding promising reviews. We ordered brisket BBQ, corn bread, green beans, baked beans, and macaroni and cheese. We paid, they gave us our food, and sent us on our way. However, I'm glad we didn't drive off without checking for utensils in our bag. Cons: We weren't given utensils. Once we asked for them, they gave it to us AND two single serving bags of BBQ sauce. They didn't give us the BBQ sauce either until now! We thought the BBQ sauce was already poured on the meat, not given to us seperately by forgetful employees. We almost completely missed out! Also, the corn bread my husband ordered was missing. My corn bread was spongy and lacked butter and/or flavor. The green beans were significantly salty. Pros: The brisket was the HIT in the car, it was very juicy, flavorful and memorable! If they didn't remember to give us their BBQ sauce, it would be different. The baked beans were also delicious with a unique flavor. In the end, would like to give this location another shot if we're in the area. Luck wasn't entirely on our side that night, but with brisket and BBQ sauce that delectable, it's too hard to resist.

Mike D.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch on the way to a sibling get together. I got the so-called Texas brisket plate. Jack clearly has never been to Texas. Barely detectible smoke ring, almost no bark, just the faintest hint of smoke - hickory, not mesquite. Taste and texture were like pot roast. The mac and cheese served that way in the South was an abomination. Kraft in a box would have been a vast improvement. Baked beans and cornbread were OK. I will drive right past on the way home.
google avatar

Mayra C.

Yelp
Got the ribs meal with mashed potato Mac & cheese was delicious. The bread was tasty too added apples So good. I do recommend this place Will definitely be back
google avatar

Jeanne M.

Yelp
I don't get the hype. Tried the pork shoulder and my husband had the brisket. He would say 3 stars. That Mac n cheese isn't made with real cheese. I thought they were supposed to know how to make that stuff in the south but I've yet to see it. The sweet potatoes were good. The slaw is a vinegar slaw. The sauce options are not great. All are hot except one. You order and get your food in styrofoam containers and eat with plastic utensils in a booth. Nothing on our do-again list.
google avatar

Dagan B.

Yelp
Remember Brown Gravy. I tried all 5-6 BBQ sauces and picked one. None were bad. The pork shoulder and sausage were my favorite, The ribs and brisket were good also, The mashed potatoes with brown gravy, green beans, baked beans, and slaw were all standard but good. What kicked everything up was some brown gravy leaked into the pulled pork and wow it was good. I have never been a big BBQ sauce person no matter how good, So I tried the gravy on the ribs and the brisket, I have found my heaven. Doubt me try it, Get a little dip cup full of gravy and dip away.

Yelp
Yummy!! Is the first thought that comes to mind!! Found this place on a whim driving through Nashville. It smelled amazing outside, all that smoke aroma! The staff was friendly and greeted us upon entering. Me being indecisive went with the 3 meat combo which was turkey, brisket and sausage. My sides were potato salad and corn. But only because I couldn't decide with all the side dish choices! The turkey and brisket were soft and moist. Really didn't need any of the many choices of sauce but I did anyway. The sausage had a good flavor too and not spicy. The potato salad was average, the corn was tasty. I would've preferred more butter in the Texas toast but it was still good soft and fresh. It was a little pricey but well worth it and average for a really good and authentic bbq place. Definitely recommend this place to everyone! Can't wait to try the one in Charlotte!!

Jaliyah M.

Yelp
They have bad customer service and they are slow I asked from BQQ suse and didn't get some

Yelp
Rude drive through employee, mediocre quality food. My brisket was dry with bone of the juicy fatty bits. Taste was very good but dry. Coleslaw was disappointing as it was not super crunchy and it was a bit flat on flavor. What really got me was the service from the skinny young man. "What's your order " in a terse voice. Me - "hi how are you?" No reply. Silence. Get to the window. Window opens. I get "$19.23" or some such. I say "how are you?" No answer. Takes my card and closes the window. Comes back with receipt and card. No words. He says "what kind of sauce?" I say "I'm sorry this is my first time here what do you have?" Him - sigh "spicy, sweet, mustard based". I ask for mustard. Window closes. Window opens and he hands me my food. I start saying thank you have a great d......" window closes. What. An. A&&h@@e.

Yelp
This place will never get another penny from me. I moved into town from out of state about 3 months ago. My son and I were looking for some authentic local bbq several weeks ago, and some locals recommended Jack's. We went to the Trinity Lane location, and had lunch. I had the brisket, and he got the pulled pork. The food was good, and the service was ok. So today we were on our way back north, and stopped at Jack's again for an early lunch (same location). The open sign was not lit, but we saw cars in the parking lot, and the schedule on the door said they open at 10:30. We tugged on the door handle, like normal, and it was still locked. We realized it was only 10:27, so we chuckled and assumed we would wait the 3 minutes for them to open. A moment later, a female employee came out of the same door, locked it behind her, threw her nose up in the air, and with a displeased look, blurted "10:30!" at us, as she walked around the side of the restaurant. We looked at each other, without saying a word, each of us knowing what the other was thinking, headed back to our vehicle, and drove away. Our first experience at Jack's was good enough that we returned for a second visit when we were back in the area. Never again! There are too many other options in Nashville to tolerate this pathetic treatment. Because of the way we were treated today, I have zero interest of ever visiting any of Jack's other locations.

Yelp
Synopsis: Not my taste in barbecue at all. This place has a drive through. That seemed very considerate. I ordered a 2-meat combo platter with chicken and brisket. I prefer the excess fat be removed from a cut of meat prior to serving. The brisket is served with the fat still on it. It tasted funny but not necessarily bad. The chicken skin was crinkled; the chicken did fall off the bone but it was dryyy...as if it had been boiled, then baked. The cole slaw was principally some VERY course white cabbage with what tasted like sweet pickle juice. It was not good. The potato salad was neither exceptional nor exceptionally bad. It just wasn't worth the price, in my opinion. Walmart potato salad is at least on a par,if not better. The barbecue sauce wasn't really bad either. I thought it needed more citrus. The corn bread I thought was good, though it would be best served with butter. All-in-all, I was very disappointed. I really wanted a good barbecue meal. I felt this was not even close to a professional quality nor worth the price
google avatar

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
Could be past its prime. Just saying the brisket cut was not the best and the turkey was dry. Cheese sauce for Mac and cheese seemed like from powdered mix. Won't be going back. $22 for one meal.

Yelp
10/10. This place is the cats meow. Great brisket , delicious sides , had the green beans (super flavorful) and baked beans (hot, I like it). Brisket was flavorful and moist(lol). I read a few comments about attitudes of employees. Everyone was great to me and it was perfect. Will be back and bribing people here too!!! 10/10!!!!

Yelp
Pulled off the highway on our way to florida. So glad we did. Nothing fancy but the food is soo good. Service is fast since it's cafeteria style BBQ. Portions are large and collard greens were awesome.

Yelp
So I've been to the Broadway location last year and loved it. I was craving BBQ again this time around and wanted the family to try it but didn't want to wait around 20 minutes for a table as we were all starving. So we decided to go to this location instead. I was a bit disappointed this time around. I'm not sure if I came towards the end of the day and all the good bbq was out, but it didn't seem as fresh as I remembered it to be. I ordered the St Louis style ribs and it was not the "fall off the bone" type as I remembered experiencing at the Broadway location. The meat was a little tough around the edges and seemed kind of dry. It was just alright. Next time I'm in Nashville I think I'll stick to the Broadway location.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
Jack's has the best BBQ in all of Nashville. ive been eating here for several years and i have never been disappointed!
google avatar

Sanitra C.

Yelp
I ordered a Rib Sandwich & Brisket sandwich thru Uber Eats. I was very tired after working 10 days @ the hospital and just wanted to go home..For the very first time ever, The Ribs were tough and dry and the Jumbo sandwich looked like a $5 meal from Burger King, not to mention the fact that it was very salty. I called to speak to the manager who told me to bring the food back to them. Okay???? what am I to do get the Ribs out of the dumpster??? Sorry Jack's can't support you or advise anyone to come there till you get your act together. I don't have $31.00 to throw away.

Yelp
This place is right on the strip, of down town Nashville the food is so great, I ordered the smoked chicken and it is so juicy and tender every bite is perfection I got the hot and spicy sauce and the sweet sauce and it's topped off great with the chicken as dipping sauce! My kids loved the food as well they give cornbread which is very sweet and yummy I loved it it tasted like sweets bread I didn't even notice it was corn bread they give 2 slices per meal the pieces of meat are big the FUTURE TIP the kids meals is basically the same size as the adult meals !!! And they are couple dollars cheaper Only difference is the box LOL and they give you maybe 1 or 2 bites less worth of the sides but it comes with the same size chicken breast as a adult meal just the sides are smaller and the drink is a kids cup so if you are hungry but not starving you should get the kids meal! LOL anywhoo, there brisket was very juicy and tender top it off with the seasoning of your choice and BAM perfection !!! Baked beans my dad got the baked beans he loved them a little too sweet for my tasting but they were good! Cole slaw my mom said was good but very creamy! BUT 9/10!

Love the ribs fall of the bone every single time! Always a quick time at the counter getting your food then it's on and pooping!

Yelp
This is the best bbq in Nashville. My favorite is the pork! Can we please mention the mashed potatoes, super creamy and buttery! If you go inside they have a hot bar with the gravy and all the different sauces. the slaw here is super light and refreshing not heavy/mayo based to where it's weighing your sandwich down. Idk why people insist on talking about these other places in nash when this is the true winner. There is zero comparison. Saying edleys/peg leg porker or anywhere else is close would be an absolute insult to jacks.
