The 20 Best Restaurants In Fort Lauderdale

"Jack’s is a Broward classic that serves burgers that taste like the year 1972, which is when the little burger restaurant opened. Since then, Jack’s has been the place to celebrate youth sports victories, consume aggressively thick milkshakes, and dive headfirst into burger nostalgia. There’s really nothing trendy about these burgers—no smashed patties or secret sauce. It’s just beef, bun, and there’s a little toppings bar in the center of the dining room so you can customize to your liking. The roughly inch-thick patties range from a quarter-pound to a half-pound and are cooked on a flat top that remembers when Nixon was president. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo

"Lots of fancy-schmancy burger joints have come and gone, but Jack’s remains an Oakland Park mainstay (and broader Fort Lauderdale favorite) 50-plus years in. Its beef is ground daily on-site – you can order ‘em in quarter- to half-pound varieties. Spin a classic tune on its jukebox, and you’ll fully understand its charm."

"1970s nostalgia abounds at both Jack’s locations in Broward – in Oakland Park and Pompano Beach. Google
First time here. On vacation and walked up there. It was ok. Not exactly what we had hoped for. Loved the condiment bar! The soda was not good. And the burger was pretty greasy. The fries needed salt. But the staff was nice and caring. The portion of food was a good amount. But they were busy even for a random time at 230p

Google
Everything you would expect at a traditional hamburger place. Great flavorful, juicy burgers. Extra condiments and wonderful service. My Mom & I ate our burgers on site while the food was hot. The third burger we ordered at the same time for my Dad, upon request they waited to fire, so it would still be hot when we delivered it to him. Thanks for helping me with my parents great burger experience!

Google
Atmosphere is great, employees are friendly but all in all the food was not worth the $35 price tag. No combos paid separately for everything. However the place was clean and the staff was very pleasant unfortunately I couldn’t afford to tip !

Google
Stopped in the restaurant last week with my best friend. We were in a hurry, and needed a quick meal. It was not my first time but it was my friend's first time. The burgers are cooked to perfection, the fries are insane, and there are no words for the shakes. The staff was super quick to respond when I noticed a small issue in the bathroom involving lack of toilet paper. By the way,Broward Sheriffs Dept absolutely loves their food. Several officers were there enjoying their meals while we were present. This must be the fuel that keeps them going. We will be back also

Google
Been coming to Jack's since 2007. Never had an issue. But now all of a sudden they raised the prices so high that I won't be coming back. The final straw was them raising the price of the damn fountain drinks absurdly high. $2.95 for what is a small anywhere else. Also, often times the burger is overcooked. $21.13 for a damn burger & fries is outrageous. Get lost!! I am never coming back again

Google
Great burger joint! Kind staff and delicious burgers and milk shakes. Love it

Google
I have been coming here my whole life and it has only gotten better. This is a true fort lauderdale local gem. These are classic old school burgers. They aren't piled so high that taking a bite is difficult. They are affordable. They are freshly ground daily and cooked to order. Even when we're there at a weird time, they never use old fried left over from lunch service or reheat things. The buns are always fresh and warm. Husband tried the patty melt and it was the best one he's had in years. This is Ron Swanson's type of place. Classic, no bells and whistles, good food. ¼ lb with cheese was $9. Husband's patty melt was *massive* and cost $11. Fries are extra but they give you so many we can never finish them. Oh and they still have that excellent crushed ice. It's so much yummier than regular ice.

Google
Loved the vibe and the burger/fries were good. Compared to my best burger, I'd say it's a 3 though. Very fresh, hot, but burger was a little pink inside so I wish they would have asked my preference of wellness. A little pricy. Bathroom clean but the hallway shows the full garbage can but the can was indeed empty the next time I went to the bathroom. Friendly staff, prompt service, The music and juke box is cool. Parking and location is good. Steady customers coming in which is always a good sign. Condiment bar is a nice touch and clean. I would bring guests to experience the burger and vibe.

Yelp
Good ole fashion hamburger! Simple and super tasty! It's a landmark in Fort Lauderdale! Definitely a must try, not the best burger I have had but it's simplicity make it nostalgic! Love the fixings bar and the place/decor is classic. Be sure to try a shake! Super tasty!

Yelp
Jacks will always hold a special place in my heart. It's a no frills burger joint. I removed a star bc last week was eeeeextra greasy (way worse than I remember) and the fry quality has gone down. Also, the prices are astronomical! It was $50 for 2 burgers, fries, drinks. Still delicious but not as good as it once was.

Laban Y.

Yelp
Started coming here on spring breaks. Now that I live in the area I make it a point to return. Hamburgers are always freshly made and delicious.

Yelp
My daughter asked for burgers so mom delivered. Haven't been here in a number of years and couldn't ember how it tasted, but this day it was great. Freshly made, great sweet tea, no frills type place to just indulge and enjoy your burger. We both ate it all!!! They also have these amazing cookies...I'm upset that the server didn't tell us about the deal on the cookies and we only bought one but she also saved my waist line.

Yelp
Its been long time since last here. Simple counter ordering from a clear wall menu but new prices did shock me a little. Large burger, small burger and fries (NO DRINK) $21. Food was hot and ready within five minutes. The 1/2 burger was a huge smash burger type and i loved that they included a self serve condiment bar. I loaded the burger up with hot peppers, onions, mustard, ketchup and hot sauce. The fries were a surprising $3.45 but was a large crispy portion. The 1/2 pound burger was juicy and tasty as i remember it. All the food was amazing. BUT, i noticed a customer ask an employee for a refill for his fountain drink, and the customer removed the top and straw from his used styro cup and handed it to the employee who used the SAME cup to scoop out ice cubes from the ice chest then refilled his cup with the new fountain drink. Dont know if this was common protocol for this place but i hope not. The place appeared clean including the bathroom. Will return for the great hamburgers.

Yelp
both locations just recently sold out to a corporation-Sicilian oven. I was told the food quality is the same- however I've had two different people tell me that it's changed in the last few weeks ..the recipe is different and also -the ham quality has never been good, it's always been a real fatty quality but now it's even worse! it's more like what you get at Burger King now. So obviously it's not true... they did change the quality or the recipe of the burger. Bummer !!that's what happens when big corpse take over

Yelp
This is a great stop for a quick yummy burger in Ft Lauderdale. They have been there 4ever and have that old school appeal. Nothing fancy, casual but comfortable. The condiment bar in the middle of the room is my favorite attraction along with a burger. Ive been here many times and was happy to see it is still a hopping place. We were there at lunch time on a Saturday. I ordered the small 1/4 lb burger. It was a small bun but turned out to be filling. The 1/2 lb burger would have been too much for me. My boyfriend did order that! My only disappointment were the fries...they were crispy but had no flavor even with lots of ketchup and salt. Regardless, i left satisfied with my burger, some fries and a root beer.

Yelp
My son LOVES it here ! My son is a very picky eater ... doesn't like to try a lot of new things and wasn't interested in cheeseburgers ... until ... he tried Jack's ! He loves the bacon cheeseburger with fries. He can afford to put a little meat on his skinny body so we like to get at least a few times a month for him. Staff is always super friendly and always consistent! I love the cookies haha. If you haven't tried, you're missing out !

Yelp
I have heard of Jacks as it's been around for a long time. Today I drove by it and was hungry so I thought about giving it a try. Order at the counter and the condiments are on another table. Gosh choice of sauces to choose from. The 1/2 pound burger was delicious. It was sooooo juicy. Many burger places don't have the juice like st Jacks. Loved it. Fries are just ok. But the juicy burger will have me coming back for more in the future.

Yelp
Having visited & enjoyed the food here dozens of times, I was surprised that I had not previously written a review. This is a unique hamburger local institution. Throwback to fresh fresh ground beef burger & fresh on the side in plastic zip lock bag lettuce & tomato. Enjoy the relish topping bar, as condiments on your burger. Fresh FF & best value of Not self serve. large fountain drink. Parking is convenient, expect at peak lunch hour. Service is good, prices fair for the good quality & location is older, but kept clean by the staff.

Yelp
Very fresh burgers and reasonable prices. Their fries are not greasy and always crispy. You can dine it or get it to go. They have a condiment bar that offers different toppings. Very casual spot.
google avatar

Peter Z.

Yelp
Great old fashioned burger joint like you may have grown up with. Things are very simple and old-Timey better. No frills.. great simple burgers. Legendary place I love to eat at.

Tom L.

Yelp
This is the classic burger place. The food was fresh cooked and delicious. The staff were very friendly.

Suzanne C.

Yelp
I love these burgers, and now they have amazing onion rings! Your classic tasty American burgers here!
google avatar

Miso J.

Yelp
Best burger I've had in my life! So juicy. I got the big jacks cheese burger with bacon. Never disappoints. I have dreams about these burgers. Anything less than 5 stars you a hater fr also, the sweet tea is divine.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
First time visiting with my two friends and had an excellent cheeseburger. Highly recommend their signature sauce with the burger. Had an issue with my order and the lady that took my order made sure to make things right and make it a fantastic experience. Also had the best chili hot dog I've ever had. Excited to come back
google avatar

Aileen N.

Yelp
My husband raved about this place so I got to try it for the first time today. The burger was delicious! Nice and juicy. I like that they have a place on the side where you can add whatever condiments and toppings yourself ( mayo, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles, jalapeños, relish, etc.) You can also add bacon, mushrooms, sautéed onions upon placing your order as well as lettuce and tomato. Otherwise , you get the bun, meat and cheese. Service was quick and they also provided iced whatever for free. This is definitely one of the best burgers I've had.
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
You either love Jacks or you don't. I've love it since the 80s. I'm mostly pescatarian but if I'm in that part of town imma get me some Jacks. It's nostalgic and the fresh ground burgers taste the same as when I was a strapping young man.
google avatar

Susan L.

Yelp
Such sweet service I found out where to get my good hotdog, and my little dog got a cup of water

Bruce G.

Yelp
The burger is very good. Beef is never frozen. Very good on the fries and vanilla shake. The counter service is quick and efficient. The place is clean with a simple old fashioned vibe. Way and above any fast food burger. I have been a few times and will go again
google avatar

Bruce B.

Yelp
I was sadly disappointed today by the experience at this establishment. They lost my order and had a broken shake machine... after letting them know we were still waiting on our food they brought us an incomplete meal, missing an order of fries. The food delivered was NOT worth the price and the apology given was half hearted. I won't return.
google avatar

Yelp
I am embarrassed to admit that I've lived in Broward my entire life and have never been to Jack's. Always drove by and never had a reason to come in. My boyfriend brought me here and we went THREE times in one weekend... THREE. The inside is very old fashioned but the food quality was great. We initially got a burger and shake just for him and I ended up drinking the entire chocolate shake myself so we had to come back and get another. The burgers are generic run of the mill burger but the never frozen fresh beef is really the stand out there. But I do have to admit... these chocolate shakes are to die for. I would come back just for a shake. Definitely get the larger size because you'll regret getting the smaller one by the time you get in the car and half it is is gone. The staff was friendly and the inside of the restaurant was very clean. Absolutely looking forward to visiting one of their two locations again for another shake... maybe a burger too. 9/10 recommend.

Justin K.

Yelp
Good grease guy burger! Yup. Lots of condiment at the condiment bar too Including mayo, the most important.
google avatar

Ashley V.

Yelp
This place sucks. The burger and fries were over $10 with no drink. The drinks are like $4. The burger isn't seasoned and probably 70/30 beef because it was dripping grease. The cheese fries came with two square cheese pieces on top and was white American or provolone but not cheese sauce or even yellow American. Outside didn't play music that was playing inside. The strawberry shake was pretty good, but overall 2/10.

Jimmy P.

Yelp
Jack's old-fashioned hamburgers I come from the West Coast we're in and out is seen as one of the leading top burgers Jack so fashion gives you respectable old mom and Pop shop food prices seem to be very high for a meal for tomb I pay nearly 45 bucks. I get it fresh ingredients for 45. I can buy some lobster.
google avatar

Rusty O.

Yelp
I have been coming to Jacks since 1979. It has always been my favorite. Since the wife took over the restaurant the quality has gone down and the prices have climbed to all new highs. I ate here this evening and I'm sad to say that this is my last visit. Two hot dogs, fries and a coke was $15 and change. That's ridiculous!!! It's like breaking up with your girlfriend. I will really miss this place but they have priced themselves out of the market!
google avatar

Bonnie L.

Yelp
Disgusting burgers and hot dogs! I remember I use to liked their burgers over a decade ago and decided to make an order since I was in the area. I really don't know how they are still in business, my burgers were dry and over cooked with no flavor and the dogs were tiny and cold. I took a few bites, threw out the rest and looked for somewhere else to eat. I understand this burger place has been around for ages but they need to revamp the burgers if they want to stay relevant.
google avatar

Stephen G.

Yelp
Bland, bland, bland. The quality was much better before Jack passed away. I'm very disappointed. $14.00 for one cheeseburger with tomato and lettuce and fries. No way ever again.
google avatar

Larry S.

Yelp
This is a no frill no thrills place. If you want 24K gold leaf on your burger, go elsewhere. But if you want a quality very consistent burger, then you've found your spot. Jacks will forever have a place in my stomach.
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
The worst experience possible. I took my two boys. It smelled like a bathroom inside even worse so we decided to sit outside. We ordered three hamburgers, when they came mine smelled funny, but I tried to pretend and have a bite. My other two boys smelled theirs separately and told me they couldn't eat them, we all smelled again and everything smelled very stinky and off. We end up, throwing away all the burgers and brought the fries in our cars and left to go to burger fi. A real disappointment
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
This place is a huge disappointment. They pride themselves on using top freshly made meat, but it's so overdone you don't enjoy it. I ordered a side of mushrooms and they served. 3-4 mushrooms for .75 cents. I confess we wanted to support the local place however we won't be back. One of the worst hamburgers I have ever tasted. Please do better.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Duplicate as the one in pompano . Both equally consistent and worth a try . Closest thing to in n out burgers as these are also non frozen and fries are unique and 90% of the time freshly fried and crispy
google avatar

Holly K.

Yelp
This burger joint shouldn't have anything less than 5 stars. Jack's has been around for years- since day 1, they have never sold a burger that was previously frozen. Burger patties are made fresh DAILY. You can taste how FRESH and well-seasoned the meat is; there's no need really for any other toppings or sauces (that's when you know you have quality meat). Throughout the years they have added more available toppings, such as cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, chili, onions, or cheese. You also have the option of a juicy 1/4 lb or 1/3 lb or 1/2 lb burger (large amount of beef). The bun on the burger is always fresh, and I never feel like it's "too much bread". The fries are soft (but not soggy); add a piece of melted cheese to them if you want to take them to another level! The shakes at Jack's are THE best. The mixture is thick and the (chocolate) flavor is so rich; one of the tastiest milk shakes I've ever had. Been to Jack's (all locations included) a couple hundreds times, absolutely love it (and all the nostalgia that comes with it). Menu IS limited, so would only recommend coming here if you are craving a solid burger!
google avatar

Val V.

Yelp
When craving an old fashion cheeseburger, this is where I go. Jack's has always had great burgers and hotdogs, especially when in the mood for a quick stop.
google avatar

Angelo R.

Yelp
The food is excellent, but the fact that I can't simply call and place a take out order SUCKS!!!! When did answering a phone and taking a to-go order become a thing if the past?? Lost my business.

Len C.

Yelp
Best hamburgers in town! Nice cozy, homey atmosphere. Go back often, love it! Great, quick service, friendly staff! Well worth it!
google avatar

Kayla S.

Yelp
BEST BURGER JOINT AROUND! & don't get me started on how amazing their fries are!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Barry A.

Yelp
It's been years since I had gone to Jacks. My wife wanted to go so we did. First of all there was no social distancing as to many customers were inside. I ordered the 1/3 pound cheese burger and my wife ordered the 1/2 pound Big Jack. We also ordered fries. When our order was ready we went out side to eat because the place kept filing up. Have to say the food was just average and over priced. The soft drink was 80 percent ice. Looks like the place needs a good cleaning. Overall I was disappointed and the lack of social distancing really bothered me.
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
If you are craving fast food it's worth a visit to Jack's Old Fashion. And yes, it does seem like a throw back to the 1960s. You can order a 1/2 or 1/3 pound burger, fries and a drink. My cheeseburger was very decent and the fries warm. Not sure what else you would want.
google avatar

TJ H.

Yelp
Have been driving by for years, saying we need to try Jack's, Finally found the perfect time to stop by, great burgers, the type that taste like fresh ground beef. There is a reason why the have been around so long, not the gourmet type just a good Old Fashioned Hamburger. Keep up the tradition please

Arnie M.

Yelp
If you want great burgers (and great fries S O M E T I M E S)ddd go to Jack's. PREVIOUSLY A 5-STAR BURGER HOUSE with great burgers and fries, but these days, a few things need serious attention. FRIES - generally are very good, but in the past month I had to return 4 orders, as they were, in my opinion, too dark, too greasy and too hard. The fries were almost always EXCELLENT but maybe some days there are fry cooks that need some direction. SERVICE - If a customer needs a plastic bag to load everything, employees should at least open the bag before handing it out to the customer. Reminds me of veggie bags at publix that stick together. Some employees are very gracious, a few seem oblivious. PARKING LOT - There are bone wrenching and suspension endangering potholes in the back of the building that should have been fixed months ago that I feel are enough to keep some customers away. SOUTH ENTRY DOOR - watch it when you enter because if you let it go too soon, it can slam you fairly hard in the arm or the back. The door closer needs adjustment or replacement. ------------------------------------- INTERIOR - THE PLACE DINING AREA AND RESTROOMS ARE KEPT VERY CLEAN. HAMBURGER QUALITY IS EXCELLENT, but with limited lunch hour sometimes time and having to re-order fries, get slammed by the door and badly jostled in the parking lot, the overall experience is lacking. My people are going there less than before, and I hope that things will be restored to how they were in the past. ---------------------- Last minute item, check your milkshake for dripping or leaking from the cap or straw hole. That happens about 1/4 of the time.
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
What a disappointment! Bland greasy unseasoned burgers and you have to add your own condiments from a ramshackle bar in the middle of the floor. I normally make pictures of food for my reviews but since this was the ugliest and greasiest burger that fell apart as I ate it, I decided against pictures. Floors were extremely greasy and hard to walk on. Will never dine here again.
google avatar

Michael F.

Yelp
Lonely and greasy burger. Take our order was pretty simple: 1/2 lb hamburger medium with extra lettuce, ketchup, and mayo. 1 well done burger with 1/2 a piece of lettuce and no mayo later, here I am at work... irritated. I've tried jacks so many times over the years. I wish they'd get it right. No clue how they stay in business.

Tracey W.

Yelp
We usually enjoy a burger and fries, but not today. I ordered extra cheese on the burger and didn't get it. It was also very dry. The fires were cold, dry and terrible. To add insult to injury, one of the young ladies came to our table and took the ketchup bottle and said we were not allowed to have it at the table, though there is no sign to that effect. The same girl said nothing to another table who also illegally had a ketchup bottle on their table. Extremely disappointing experience.

Drew B.

Yelp
I would hate to see this landmark historical burger place go out of business, but I can't say I'll be back, after 37 years of patronage. $16 for a burger, about a 2/3 cup of fries and a drink. This is the insane pricing as disney world. I can't tell if something has changed in the quality of the burger or not, but they used to be like "holy sh*t, this is awesome!" Now it's more "holy sh*t, THIS is $16?"
google avatar

Danny K.

Yelp
Fast service, food was great, ambiance was very 1980's but chill. Burger was fresh and I was able to make it how I liked it. Definitely a repeat.
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
classic vibes. a fort lauderdale staple. anyone leaving less than 4 stars is a hater. cheese burger + fries + strawberry shake.

Justin N.

Yelp
Food was average. Toppings bar a little disappointing, but does allow you to tailor your hamburger to your taste. 3 stars for nostalgia. Moody teenagers operating what should be an awesome restaurant, disappointing. Burnt French fries should have never been sent out. It is a simple menu should be relatively easy to put out a consistent product. High expectations, failed to deliver. I guess if you went on your first date there, then cherish the memories.

Timothy W.

Yelp
A good hamburger (slightly pressed) and simple. Old Fort Lauderdale atmosphere. Hires teenagers from the local high schools. Great small cube ice.
