What an incredible dining experience. This restaurant is the absolute definition of “no frills,” and that’s part of what makes it so special. We arrived slightly after 7 PM, and there was only one other table of guests. It’s an open-air spot, and the chef, Ko Daeng, was seated at a desk by the entrance when we walked in. He personally greeted us and seated us at a table by the road.
After we placed our order with the server, Mr. Ko Daeng got up, walked to the small open kitchen, and began preparing our meal himself. I started taking photos and videos, and a gentleman who seemed to be a friend of the restaurant encouraged me to get even closer for a better view of the kitchen.
From there, everything was top-notch. An older woman brought our food to the table and handled both running and bussing. Our server checked in to see how everything tasted, offering us toppings and chili for our dishes. Shortly after, Mr. Ko Daeng came by himself to ask how we were enjoying the meal. The staff continued to stop by, guiding us on which toppings were the most popular pairings for each dish. Everyone was incredibly attentive and welcoming. We also saw the same level of hospitality extended to a table of guests who arrived shortly after us. A few minutes before 8 PM, they put up a “sold out” sign, so your best bet is to come early.
The food itself was outstanding—exactly what you imagine and hope for when people talk about amazing, authentic mom-and-pop Thai cooking. The value was just as impressive; we easily would have been willing to pay three times as much for a meal like this.
Highly recommend, and we’re really hoping we get the chance to visit again before we leave the area.
