4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: June 13 | Eater LA

"A relaxed Gardena spot channeling Busan's famed Jagalchi market, it serves a range of regional dishes from bubbling stone-pot soups to chilled fresh seafood. The owner may offer live sannakji from a tank, and the pork gukbap is a standout — tender pork belly in a milky, umami-rich broth that becomes even better with extra fermented kimchi and radish. The hwedupbap provides a cold, bibimbap-like experience of raw fish, lettuce, vegetables, lukewarm rice, and chojang, making a fun hot-to-cold contrast during a single meal." - Eater Staff

The funny thing is I was headed to Grand Fish Tacos & Ceviche (next door) but then I saw pictures of food/soup on the window of this place. I love Asian soups, and that's where they "got me". 🤣 I was greeted by Lisa (I think she's the owner) friendly and limited English but we communicated well! I also met Sato👨‍🍳, the cook, the food really spoke of his many years of experience! They've been open 1 year (since November 2023), and the food is excellent! I ordered the (non-spicy) Beef bone broth with brisket soup AND much to my surprise I LOVED the kimchi. I want to go back!! (I use to never like kimchi so for many many years never tried it again, but when Lisa presented me with all these dishes to go alongside the soup I could not say no 😉). The soup broth was flavorful! Next time I want to try the spicy soup! Top sellers: Lisa says among Koreans, soups, fish and fried fish are most popular. Among American/non-Korean, most popular is BBQ. Come check it out, support local. #KimchiConvert😆

Super yummy! We were in the area and found them through google maps. We were hesitant at first because of the low number of reviews but we couldn’t have been happier. It’s a family-run business, they give you unlimited banchan (side dishes), their portions are big and the food is actually yummy. We got the beef spicy stew and the oxtail brisket stew. Staff are also super friendly and nice. We’ll be back!

Came here based on good reviews on Google looking for a Korean restaurant in Gardena and wasnt disappointed🤙Friend made reservations for 7 people for a birthday party and the waitresses were very friendly and helpful as this was our first time here. Ordered the Spicy Beef Brisket with Seafood, along with the Beef Bulgogi to share and others ordered the Bibimbap which looked real good🤙 Complementary Banchans are excellent, they came around several times asking if we needed refills on water and any if the banchans too. Food was excellent and more on the larger portion size(I think the soups and plates are for sharing fyi) which we did end up sharing through the meal. Korean soju and beer are also served here along with fresh octopus and sashimi that are market price. Would highly recommend as this is a newer restaurant only opened for 6 months? Forgot exactly what the server said. Limited English spoken and customers were mainly Korean so you know its legit. 5 stars🤙🤙

Google
Of the many korean restaurants my partner and I have visited over the years, we both agree this is the best Korean food we’ve ever had! Banchan are high quality and well seasoned, the owner couple (wife handling front of house, husband as chef) are adorable and welcoming. I’m surprised this place doesn’t have more reviews! This will be THE local spot I’ll bring visiting family members and friends to!

First time trying this place I ordered the bulgogi which comes with a soybean stew. The banchans were okay. The bulgogi wasn't as sweet as most places, which is what I prefer. You can taste the mirin. The small pieces of meat were okay, but the large pieces were super chew that I had to discard. The stew was okay. I do not recommend the bulgogi. I may someday go back to try something else off the menu.

Google
A new restaurant in town, at where Kyodong Noodles used to be. Friendly staff and tasty soups, giving us a decent Korean comfort food option in South Bay. Even the side dishes (a few types of kimchi) were great. Hope they last long. :)

Google
Jagalchi is a Korean comfort food restaurant. Although the menu is not as extensive as other Korean restaurants in the area, the food is decent. The owner is very friendly and provides excellent service. However, the prices are higher than other places in the area and the portion sizes are on the smaller side. The free appetizer is standard, but I wish there were more options. I'm deducting one star due to the pricing and portion ratio. Quick tips: Jagalchi is located right next to Grand Fish Tacos & Ceviche, and there are plenty of parking spots available in the same plaza."

The service from the staff was excellent, the portions were just right, and the food was delicious. Plus, the cleanliness of the café added to the overall great experience.

Yelp
This place is so good. I can't stop raving about it. I love the food here. Everything reminds me of Korea and eating the delicious food. The banchan is the best selection and fresh. I've ordered the bibimbap, the spicy brisket soup, galbi ribs, and the dumpling soup. All of it was delicious and was not disappointed. The "halmoni" here made us feel like family even though we are different cultures. It's very heartwarming and look forward to coming for the experience, for the service, and the relaxing atmosphere here. It will not disappoint.

Yelp
Lunch on a Saturday. Hours were noted as 11:30am opening. However, they were already open at 11:15. Shared: Beef bone broth soup with rice cake & mandu. Rich clear beef broth with tasty mandu & rice cakes. A winner. Also ordered Boiled pork belly. Served atop a propane cooktop. Side of sliced fresh garlic & miso gochujang sauce and boiled nappa cabbage. While the pork was very tender, it was rather plain without a lot of seasoning. We were expecting something similar to Bossam. I guess it's an error on our part. If they offered Bossam, the menu would reflect that. The banchan was very generous with 8 little dishes. Adding these to the pork belly wraps really enhanced this dish. Since my cousin lives close by, we'll be back. The piggies got so excited, we didn't take photos of our meal(just the banchan).

Yelp
We love Jagalchi. I have tried their bimbimbap, yukdaejang and kalbitang, and they were all delicious... like Ktown level good. This is coming from someone who used to live in Ktown, too! They are also so sweet and welcoming to the kids. We have a picky eater and he has no problems finding something he likes there (I.e dumplings). Both the food and service are wonderful. Their bathrooms are clean. We will be regulars here for sure!

Yelp
Loved this place! The bibimbap and banchan were incredibly fresh and delicious (stone pot bibimbap was a popular dish that a lot of people ordered when I was there, and the non stone pot version was also excellent). The service was so lovely and the hostess and server were warm and absolutely delightful people. Very family friendly neighborhood feel, plenty of parking outside.

Yelp
Location is easy to get to, parking is easy as it has a parking lot, so you don't need to worry about street parking or valet. Service is impeccable. They are constantly checking to see if you have enough banchan and are quick to refill it if you need it. They are super friendly and nice. Food came out quick and piping hot. I had the #1 and it was delicious! It was more than enough food for me. It came with purple rice and they do not skimp out on ingredients. Place is clean, spacious, and I literally have no complaints besides that I wish I lived closer so I could eat here more often! Easy 5 stars for me, and I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Jagalchi is a lovely restaurant in the South Bay that serves authentic, traditional Korean food. Their sashimi, live abalone, and live octopus is always super fresh. We've eaten here several times and keep coming back for the great food and amazing service. The staff is so welcoming when we visit and helpful at answering any questions we have. The restaurant is casual but still a great place to impress family and friends with. Parking is easy since the plaza has a large private lot. I had the dolsot (hot stone) bibimbap and it was so good! The portion size was large enough for me to share some with my family and I was still satisfied with the amount I ate. They serve it with a different sauce than I usually see with bibimbap. This one was more brown than red so I'm guessing it had a soy bean paste base. I especially loved the crunchy rice at the bottom of the hot stone bowl.

Yelp
I came here for dinner through the recommendation of my boyfriend. I was a big fan of my experience at Jagalchi and loved the ambiance, food, and service. The vibe was very chill and homey and the dishes were comforting. It felt like I had visited a childhood's friends house and had joined their family dinner. We had a beef bone broth soup, steamed dumplings, and boiled pork. The boiled pork was served on an elaborate hot plate and was packed with flavor and came with pickled cabbage, bean paste, garlic, and jalapenos. The dumpling and soup were perfect for a chilly evening. Their variety of bonchon was also hearty and delicious!

Yelp
Very cozy, family-owned eatery-- dishes are made very authentically and with LOVE. This is the first Korean restaurant that I've noticed actually using gosari in their spicy beef stew. Neither Old Time Noodle nor Yuk Dae Jang add gosari in their stews and it kinda makes me sad because it's such a simple but delicious addition. Also, the rice served is heukmi bap aka "black rice" which is also a rarity! Service is fantastic and always friendly. Can't wait to be back

Yelp
This seems like a very authentic Korean restaurant so my review might reflect that The service was good, the lady who stranded us was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the bulgogi hot pot and it lacked flavor. My bowl tasted like zucchini and that was the only flavor My friend ordered the bibimbap and he said he enjoyed it The meat in the fried dumplings also lacked flavor. Looking at the other reviews it may have been an off night but I don't think we'll be back

Yelp
I'm on a Korean food streak. Y'all know LA is known for great Korean food. Jagalchi didn't disappoint. Try anything on the menu and it's good. Solid. No Banchan nickel and diming. Refills until your food arrives. Very efficient servers. Simple setting in a strip mall. No complaints. We were the only non Koreans. Wait one of two. The tables were full.

Yelp
[ food ]: 9/10 * Beef bulgogi: Super flavorful and presented well * Beef brisket soup: This soup almost felt like it healed my soul.It was cooked as if it was made by my grandma, with a lot of love and thought. * Panchan: I was very impressed with their panchan, specifically their kimchi and radish kimchi, usually korean spots have very sour or very bland kimchi. This place's kimchi was a perfect amount of sour and umami! [ service ]: 10/10 * The owner was serving us and she was extremely attentive, making sure that we never ran out of kimchi or water. In general she checked in a lot to make sure that we were enjoying our food [ ambiance ]: 9/10 * Cozy, comfy restaurant that was very clean but also welcoming

Yelp
There are so many dishes on the menu that it's hard to decide what to eat, but everything is very tasty! I especially like the Ox-born Broth Soup!

Yelp
Excellent food. When we returned from our Korea trip we craved good Korean food at home. Jagalchi has it. Quick service. Good portions and good quality.

Yelp
We went out to meet a friend for dinner. She recommended this place that her. It was not busy on a Friday night. I quickly put in our order : spicy beef soup, hot pot rice with bulgogi, cold noodle, dumpling rice cake soup, and lastly from halibut sashimi. Taste was on point and generous banchan. The owner was tentative and refilled banchans when we ran out . Will definitely come back again.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for Korean food and am always on the hunt to try new and delicious restaurants. Jagalchi has both Korean style sashimi, soups, and grilled meat here. I got trusty old galbi and it was so good. The meat was high quality and the dish came with soybean paste soup which I love as well. What we ate: No. 19 - Grilled Short Beef Rib No. 23 - Grilled Mackeral Both came with Bean Paste Soup! Service was amazing. The wait staff was so nice! The restaurant is also very family friendly. Yelp
I believe this was a case of not ordering the correct meal: beef short rib broth soup with brisket...was not what I was expecting Broth was light and milky. Limited rice noodles ..mild flavor If you like Hot (temp) soup this lovely restaurant will light your fire I believe the spicy beef soup would be a better selection for me Banchan was pretty standard Korean condiment - good nothing exceptional Easy parking and timely service I will be back to give it another try with different soup. Metal chopsticks always raise my dexterity level

Yelp
Eating here reminded me of having lunch with my parents. The two old couple running the restaurant were so kind, and the food tasted like home-cooking. The oxtail bone broth was rich and flavorful, but not too salty. The purple sticky rice was also tasty with the small dishes. The side dishes were less interesting, and some of the selections were quite salty. The K-Pop music video was an interesting distraction, and it added a layer of authenticity to the experience. I am glad that I had a chance to try this establishment with their soft opening on my last day working in Gardena. I will be starting at a new job in Lakewood next month.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. Try the pork ribs and cold noodles both cold and spicy.
google avatar

Mikey F.

Yelp
Food was delicious and generous. Price was reasonable too. Service was extremely fast. The place was clean and very welcoming.
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Delicious food. The ox tail broth was rich with a nice depth of flavor, not fatty and too oily. My favorite part was that it was served boiling hot as a stew should be. Banchan was point. There was no wait and service was impecable. Korean owned and run. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
Ambiance: it's a trendy comfort food place, which has replaced the former Korean noodles restaurant Service: very friendly and served food adequately Food: simple menu items Banchan - *** limited kinds, and they have tasty raw octopus Beef-bone broth soup w/ Rice Cake & Dumpling - *** average taste Boiled Pork Belly - **** soft and tender pork slices, tasty with pickled cabbage, recommend Price: reasonable prices and moderate portions, expect about $25 per person
google avatar

Yelp
Food, service, and vibes so immaculate that I had to write a review right after dinner. Jagalchi's currently soft opening, so come through before this spot becomes hella popular. We were welcomed and seated right away - they have a one page menu with all the Korean comfort food you could want. If you're a big soup person, definitely check this place out. For two people, we ordered the ox-bone broth soup w/ beef brisket (#3), beef-bone broth soup w/ rice cake & dumpling (#4), and an order of the boiled pork belly. Both of the soups came with a side of rice. For side dishes, they brought out kimchi, diced radish kimchi, octopus, green onion kimchi, and pickled onions. Everything we ordered and all the side dishes tasted exactly as expected. The soups were warm and comforting-- went really well with everything spicy. Sides were so good, we had to ask for more. Plenty of food for two people and we'll definitely be back again. Service was amazing!! Thank you Kay for taking care of us!

Yelp
Came here early on weekend. Place was quiet and clean. Got the Mixed Soup with rice and Pork with rice soup. The food came quickly. The banchan was okay. The meat is very tender. The broth reminds me of Jinsol Gukbap in Korea town. This definitely a more convenient and tasty alternative. We ended up taking extra home. The waitress was very nice. She knew we wanted to take the rice home. Most places I have to ask for containers for the rice.

Eve C.

Yelp
We ordered the #5 and #20 and they were both delicious. Our server was friendly and the banChan was plentiful. What an absolute hidden gem in the South Bay. (They also served an incredible squid banchan).
google avatar

Lindsay G.

Yelp
In less than an hour we ordered, got our food and ate everything! I enjoyed the spicy beef soup with brisket. If you enjoy some kick, I would recommend it. My boyfriend enjoyed the ox-bone broth. And we both ordered dumplings as well, I have to say the dumplings were my favorite part.
google avatar

Winona C.

Yelp
My husband and I have dined at Jagalchi twice, and both visits have been delightful :) We've especially grown fond of their boiled pork belly, bibimbap, and the wonderful assortment of banchan. The flavors are perfectly balanced. Imagine a slice of warm pork belly, topped with soybean dipping paste, fresh thinly sliced garlic, onion kimchi, sliced jalepeno for some added spice wrapped in pickled Napa cabbage...makes for a truly satisfying bite! The attention to detail in both food preparation and friendly service with a smile has made Jagalchi one of our new favorite spots for authentic Korean cuisine.
google avatar

Yelp
My belly is Extremely happy because this place. Staffs were nice and friendly, both server came back to check if we need somethings else like more side dishes and after i look behide for a second she straight to me and said Soju display are over there, more easy for you to see what we have. I love boiled pork belly soup. Pork are soft and tasty, will be more fun to eat with side dishes and kimchi. Also grilled pork ribs were well cooked and perfect seasoning. Dining space pretty clean and comfy, give a customer space between each table. Overall 10 out of 10. Will be back to try somethings else.

Yelp
I recently saw this new Korean restaurant open up in my area and I came with my family to try it out. I was in the mood for some hearty soup and this definitely hit the spot! We came on a Saturday night and we were the only customers. I hope more people find out about this spot sooner because they definitely deserve more business for the level of quality and service that they provide. I ordered the mixed soup with rice which had a mix of pork intestines and other meat. My brother ordered the spicy beef soup with brisket and I really enjoyed that when I tried it. I would order that the next time I come back. I think what makes this restaurant unique is that they give you fermented shrimp to flavor the soup. It added a whole new level of umami flavor to the broth and I absolutely loved it! We also ordered the steamed and fried dumplings which came with six pieces. I enjoyed the steamed dumplings the most and it came with a really delicious wasabi sauce to dip it with. The interior of the restaurant feels like a Korean pub - lots of tables and nice lighting. The parking lot can get busy during peak hours but there's also street parking available. I highly recommend bookmarking this spot to give it a try the next time you're in the mood for some hearty Korean food!

JA M.

Yelp
This place is mind blowing, it is very chaotic If you are not familiar with Korean delight, and it could be quasi overwhelming I'm not quite sure about this place yet Maybe it's too new for me to review

R Y.

Yelp
Great place for traditional Korean fare. I thought their pork soup was good but had a slight pork smell which took over the flavors. Aside from that, the grilled pork ribs were amazing. Nice char and flavor from the marinated. Normally, I'm used to the spicier marinade when ordering grilled pork ribs but these were a nice change of pace. Last, had the stone plate vegetable bibimbap which was a nice portion which plenty of toppings. Definitely love the scorched rice that forms on the bottom from the stone plate, giving that amazing crunch. Overall, I thought the food was good, the portions were generous, and the restaurant was nice and clean. Great place for family gatherings and will probably be back.
google avatar

Ivy K.

Yelp
Food and service was fantastic. Good place for sullungtang as it has become increasingly more scarce out there. Went with my mom and the service was friendly and cool.
google avatar

Duke C.

Yelp
Went with colleagues during lunch. Grabbed the last available table so it seems like it does get busy during prime time lunch hour! I went with the seolleongtang with brisket. Broth is a milky white and came with a decent amount of brisket. Comforting dish. Came salted already which was new to me so just added pepper and a bit of the kimchi juice to taste. Colleagues both got the Naju-style Beef Broth Bone soup. They both thought it was just average and both liked mine more. We also got the fried and steamed mandu. Steamed is definitely the way to go. With the meal, also came with a variety of kimchi, with the napa cabbage kimchi being my favorite. Super friendly service. Still in its soft opening stage so definitely want to come back and try a few of their other dishes and grilled items. Saw other tables ordering them and looked great!
google avatar

Mina B.

Yelp
Service is always good at this place. Always had lunch here for NAJU GOMTANG soup and HOT STONE BIBIMBAP which are both my favs. I've been wanting to try their (hwe) live halibut and it did not disappoint. Tasted sweet and fresh. Ambiance is cool with the lit up soju bottles as decoration. W

Yelp
I had a great time here at Jagalchi. The food is very authentic and fresh. The service is professional and calm. The ambiance is really nice too! 5 stars.
google avatar

Katelynn C.

Yelp
I cannot emphasize enough how amazing this restaurant is. My go to order is the #8 (pork soup) and the side dishes just remind me of my grandma's kimchi. Now that I am a med student, I only visit Socal to visit my family so this place is always a must-visit whenever I am in the area. The waitresses here treat my grandparents like family and the price is affordable. Jagalchi ranks top 3 Korean soup restaurants and they are just an honest to God great place to warm your stomach and soul. Will be back!!!
google avatar

Jin I.

Yelp
Finally a great restaurant with suyuk/gukbap(pork and rice soup) in the South Bay. I'm so happy I won't need to go all the way to Ktown anymore to get this. Service was great with our waiter constantly topping off our side dishes + food came out quickly.
google avatar

Daphne J.

Yelp
Came here at their soft opening and we were welcomed by their sweet staff :) The service was really good, it definitely felt like a nice ma and pa shop where the staff takes the time to get to know you and explain in detail what certain things are on the menu. I've personally never been, so I definitely had questions and they were very patient and took the time to answer any of my questions, The ambiance was super chill, a lot of the stuff in their menu are soups so it's definitely a place to go to on a cold night! The food itself was delicious, I'd definitely find myself back there for the food and the service!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Love the #1 beef soup. Very friendly and attentive service. I'm coming back soon and trying some other menu items.
google avatar

Cindy J.

Yelp
Always delicious! We've been coming here almost once a week since discovering it. Service is great, side dishes are delicious, and the menu is solid. Their bbq, soups, grilled fish, and rice dishes are all amazing. I look forward to trying their sushi menu, too!
google avatar

Evelyn A.

Yelp
The bulgogi was soo good! The service was also such a great experience. Everyone was super nice and helpful during our dine in experience. My kids loved the dumplings and also the beef soup.
google avatar

Sophia L.

Yelp
100% my favorite korean restaurant in the area and gardena has a lot of great korean spots i've had almost every one of their stews and my favorites are the spicy beef stew (with seafood even better) and the naju beef stew but you really can't go wrong with any of them. the side dishes are also amazing, i think they rotate but all their kimchis are amazing and remind me of smth my grandma would make. 10/10 comfort food and v filling! the service is great, the lady working there recognizes my family because we come in so often LMAO and they're very attentive, it's why it's a comfort spot for me
google avatar

Stevie L.

Yelp
I stumbled onto this Korean restaurant with my gf. We both loved the food. We had the spicy tofu hot pot. Tons of ingredients and flavors. The dumplings were perfect as well. This place blows BCD Tofu away in my humble opinion. Very friendly staff as well..Yum
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
I don't mind more korean soup options here in the South Bay, and this place is a nice addititheyseems they opened recently, as the menu has shifted a bit from some of the earlier pics, but pretty much the same overall and they were offering sashimi on a separate menu when I was there. Got the spicy beef brisket, fried dumplings, and pork belly gukbap. The dumplings (mandu) were the smaller type and not the usual korean deep fried versions. More like pan fried japanese gyoza. Not what I was looking for, but tasted good. The soups though were great and very richly flavored. Been to other places around like Jang Su Jang and Junju Sulungtang, and I liked the soups here a little better than the comparable versions elsewhere. Their options are more limited compared to the other places, but for what they serve it's solid. Looking forward to going back!
google avatar

Asia S.

Yelp
I went a bit early and they were very nice to seat us 10 minutes prior to their open hours. Small place but clean Food is authentic menus but it was a bit too salty but flavorless...But I am willing to try another time

John L.

Yelp
Possibly the best Korean restaurant in the South Bay. Great service. Good portions and quality meals.
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
Service is 5/5. Friendly and polite. Inside is cute and cozy. Disabled friendly. Broth of their soups are out of this world!! Super refreshing and flavorful. Good way to cool down during the summer heat. Highly recommend to anyone craving authentic delicious gukbap.
google avatar

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
Food here is great! The boiled pork belly is like bossam but the pork comes with broth and a flame is kept underneath to keep it hot. There's also special pickled cabbage you use to eat with the pork. I wish they would cut them into smaller pieces so I can wrap the pork belly with it. All the soups are also great and flavorful. Good selection of banchan as well. Staff are so friendly! A nice place for a meal.
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
I had the pork gukbap and it was delicious! I completely demolished my bowl. My fiancé had the gomtang and he loved it. Pretty reasonable prices and the food and side dishes are super YUMMY! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR SOUPS! Can't wait to go back and try their seafood too
google avatar

Yelp
AMAZING DWAEJI GUKBAP!! new favorite korean comfort food place in gardena seasoned very well & the pork was super tender!
