Jakarta Munch

We got the daily special of beef stew, and it was so filling and warming for a cold day. The rice was also seasoned, which was a good touch. Really delicious, and I recommend it.

I’ve been in NYC for over a year, and I recently came across Jakarta Munch. The owner, Andre, is incredibly friendly and goes above and beyond with customer service. The food is outstanding, offering a “tastes like home” experience. It’s a fantastic spot for Indonesian natives like myself looking for flavors that bring back memories of home.

I rather liked this chicken soup for the Indonesian, Singaporean, American, & international soul. I left the broth separate to use as a dip, in tandem w/ some relatively mild chili sauce from the counter. It's a shame I don't have a greater familiarity w/ Indonesian cuisine, despite my ancestors coming from the nearby Philippines. So I might have to come back!

Indonesian noodle soup has always been my ultimate comfort food, and I’m so glad I found it here. The flavors instantly take me back to Indonesia. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic Indonesian cuisine!

Authentic Indonesian food. I got chicken noodle and ice coconut; portion was bigger than the normal Indonesian portion. Price wise, it’s very reasonable. Chilies sauce however wasn’t spicy at all.

Incredible food from the sweetest people. Indonesian cuisine isn’t always easy to come by and while they are a small business, they have spread themselves throughout to city quite well. I always look forward to their flavorful dishes that fill me up, but aren’t heavy on my stomach.

This is a good place for an introduction to Indonesian food. The person attending the place is really friendly and helpful to answer questions. My partnet and I tried the grilled chicken and coconut rice. The chicken was well cooked and seasoned. They provided the sweet soy sauce, it was a great condiment to pair with the chicken. The coconut rice and the fried onions topping was really delicious, paired well with the chicken as well. Generous portion for the price point.

The Javanese roast chicken was incredible! Delicious and generously portioned. Make sure you have it with their chilli sauce!

SERVICE - located inside the urban hawker food court in midtown - server was friendly and good at providing suggestions for dishes - can ask for take out or dine in - food served very quickly - good spot for casual lunch or dinner - seating available inside hall - restroom available downstairs MENU - build your own Indonesian inspired rice bowls - vegan and gluten free options available - average price ($17 per bowl) FOOD - rice bowl with spicy curry and tofu (7/10): i decided to go with the spicy curry instead of the signature curry as this one had more lemongrass. The bowl is generously filled with tofu which I definitely appreciated. The curry sauce is very flavorful and you can tell it is freshly made as there are small bits of lemongrass mixed in. I would have liked it to be more liquid so that it could mix into the rice better. While I did like the salad on the side for a bit of brightness, I think having vegetables that are more typically found in Indonesian cooking would have made it a better meal. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! It is a great option for a quick yet flavorful meal.

This place is a food hall specializing in Singaporean and Indonesian cuisine, and I was impressed with the overall experience. The space is vibrant and inviting, with plenty of seating to accommodate groups or solo diners. The lively atmosphere and diverse stalls make it a great spot for anyone craving authentic Southeast Asian flavors. I wasn't too hungry this time, so I decided to try the Chicken Wonton Tacos from the Jakarta Munch stall. These little bites were a delightful mix of textures and flavors. The wonton shell was perfectly crisp, providing a satisfying crunch that paired well with the fresh cabbage slaw. The chicken filling was tangy, savory, and well-seasoned, striking a balance that made each bite incredibly tasty. This was just a small taste of what the food hall has to offer, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to explore the other stalls.

Decided to try this spot out in the Urban Hawker food court. Did the build-your-own rice bowl ($15) and chose the coconut rice (+$1), chicken and tofu as protein (costs extra to choose multiple protein) and spicy gulai. I just had them top it off with all the free toppings as this was my first time. Overall this was a very hearty, flavorful, and delicious meal. I personally have never been to Indonesia, but this is what I would envision Indonesian street food would be.

Yummy yummy yummy! The guy at the register recommended a rice bowl to me. Get the spicy tumeric rice bowl with Tofu and chicken. It's a lot of food and I have a little bit for leftovers tomorrow. Thanks!

Hubby ordered a chicken bowl from Jakarta and he was not impressed. I took a bite of his dish and it definitely fell flat from my delicious hainan chicken. Overall love the urban hawker, however this was not their best dish.

We ordered the Nasi Kuning Turmeric with chicken and spicy balado! I thought the dish was ok. It had way too much rice and not enough protein or veggies! It took a while for them to prepare. The food hall has tons of seating!

I was trying to find dinner for less than $20 (crazy, I know) and this place has a rice bowl for $15. I surprisingly really enjoyed the taste. I got the turmeric curry sauce with chicken and added all the free sides. The guy at the counter was also very friendly.

Excellent restaurant Indonesian in the urban Hawker area of multiple restaurants in New York. You can order various plates and customize bowls based on rice and berries proteins from tofu, chicken beef mushroom they can also make your bowls and or plates, vegan friendly or gluten-free. Very flavorful sauces. I got the bowl made with jasmine rice, tofu with the salad and sauces, It was delicious. They numerous choices of scratch made Indonesian sauces (flavorful aromatic to spicy). Service was excellent as the chef made any accommodations that you might want from vegan they can substitute tempeh for any of the chicken beef protein options, they have various sauces and seasonings that are very Indonesian and flavorful. They have other specialty plates such as Gado Gado, roast chicken or another Indonesian plate. Located in the Urban Hawker conglomeration of 12+ restaurant choices. Open air seating and great cuisine choices!

Jakarta Munch is located inside Urban Hawker. Hubby ordered gado gado (Indonesian salad). However, he was disappointed as it didn't taste authentic at all. It was more like Americanized peanut salad. Usually, gado gado doesn't contain carrot, corn, and kale. The peanut sauce lacked of bold sweet flavor. Hopefully, other menu is more authentic.

Honestly I quite liked this place. As everyone said, it is quite pricey. But it's not just Jakarta Munch but the entire Urban venue here. The drink and platter I got totaled to about $27 total. The drink itself I do wish were bigger considering the price but it was still tasty. A bit floral and super refreshing. The chicken itself, very moist. A bit of a crisp skin and a slight char. With the sauce drizzled over it gave the chicken a wonderful sweet and salty contrast. The rice was fragrant and overall the dish itself was well worth the price. Service could not have been sweeter. Until I try others in that area, I would recommend Jakarta!

Urban Hawker is an amazing Asian food hall on 50th street. I think it took me an hour to choose between foods from every nationality group in Asia. I chose Jakarta Munch since I've never had Indonesian food before. I ordered a jasmine rice bowl with turmeric curry tofu. I enjoyed the dish, but the flavors were average versus super exciting. The worker was friendly & the meal was prepared in a couple minutes. Jakarta Munch gets a 3, but the food hall is a huge 5.

Urban Hawker is tough -- items are significantly marked up & nothing I've had the 4(?) times I've visited has been good. Jakarta Munch is same tier as the other spots, which is to say, mediocre. For almost $22, I got the Mie Ayam Jamur noodle soup, which turned out to be instant ramen-esque noodles in a one-dimensional broth with toppings. Very underwhelming, although the portion size was sufficient. Service was friendly. I continue to be disappointed by Urban Hawker & will now voice my disapproval the next time a group of friends suggests on going.

It's One of the stalls inside Urban Hawker Was feeling something light and decided to try the Indonesia Rice and Salad bowl! The staff was nice and happy to make recommendations Got the Spicy Balado Bowl with Nasi Kuning (Turmeric Herbs Rice) & Ground Beef. I'm not a huge fan of rice in general, but I did enjoy the flavor and texture of their rice - the turmeric herbs give the rice a hearty taste with a kick and the rice has a fun texture that kinda resembles couscous (for the lack of better description/comparison lol)

Stumbled upon this hidden gem in midtown bc i'm always lookin for something new & delicious! this joint did not disappoint a tiny bit--the flavors are soo there. i'm a huge fan of anything curry especially if it's on the mild side. i honestly don't think Indonesian cuisine gets enough loving--check this joint out!! ahh and throw on some of their spicy hot sauce called sambal onto your order--so delectable. Fyi it's located inside a food court which is quite lovely all in itself

I ordered the chicken thigh and rice plate. The chicken was roasted nicely, not dry at all. The portion size is good and presentation was good. The service was friendly and honest with her suggestions. This place is located in a building with decor set like a food court, but kinda feels like you are sitting outside in a hawker style environment. The busyness is a nice setting if you enjoy busy places.

Great, kind, hardworking people but man the food was lacking :( I got the coconut rice/spring mix base with savoy opor and tofu. The curry itself was okay. The hot sauce on the side was extremely mild. The chips in the bowl were soggy and the tofu was dry and hard to eat. Maybe I came on an off day!

Nice portions and delicious food, better to get a bowl to share because it's so much. Love trying all the food at the Singapore market

Love coming here on my lunch break. Always made to order and fresh from the pan. Good portions for as well! My favorite is the build your own bowl with chicken, rice, and opor sauce. Definitely recommend the roasted chicken plate as well. Worth the wait every time!

One of the stalls in Urban Hawker - you can build your own bowl. I'll say that it's quite flavorful and keeps you full. Plenty of protein and the staff were very attentive.

This was my first time at the Urban Hawker food hall. Admittedly it was super hard to choose among the vendors! Everything looks terrific but as a vegetarian it was a challenge. Jakarta Munch drew me in with its vegan options. I choose the beyond meat and the fancy coconut rice (which I paid extra for and was not really fancy other than a few coconut shavings). The meat was in chunks in a decent sauce which frankly was the only bad part in that their was not enough of it-the dish was dry. The sides were literally plain lettuce and plain cabbage. Add a drink and a tip and you are nearly at $25. It was good but not great! Lucky there are so many yummy options that I will be back to try another!

3.5 stars. Decent Indonesian food. If you live in Manhattan, you don't have much of a choice for some Indonesian food. If you don't feel like traveling to Queens (Elmhurst/Woodside for some great authentic Indonesian food) or Brooklyn then this place is worth trying.

Ordered the spicy gulai with coconut rice and chicken. The dish had so much flavor and the chicken was nice and tender. I got all of the toppings besides the fried anchovies and added their spicy sauce they keep in a bottle on the counter. It is not inexpensive, but it is a good portion and similar to prices of other vendors in the market.

Tasty Indonesian rice and salad bowls. I recommend the coconut rice. Could have used more vegetables. Tacos were alright, but very hard to eat. They fall apart after the first bite Servings are small - I had a bowl and tacos for lunch. Bowl might be enough for a light appetite but tacos definitely wouldn't be enough. Service was friendly and quick. Located inside Urban Hawker near Times Square between 50th and 51st.

Good food. Fast service. A bit pricey, but I enjoyed it. I got the chicken bowl with spicy sauce and fried garlic with shallots. I would come here again.

the take out box is tiny compared to the eat in option. when i said they didnt put all the toppings they didnt seem to care.
