"An American culinary leader now associated with an eponymous spate of awards, James Beard lived in this multilevel townhouse from 1973 until his death in 1985—he came out as a gay man in 1981. The foundation that bears his name now owns the space, which houses a professional kitchen for chefs and has converted his bedroom (look at the ceiling for mirrors) and library into a dining space.
