"Miami-born and Jamaica-raised Tony O’Neil opened Jamrock as a cottage business out of his house during the early days of the COVID pandemic. Now he’s selling jerk chicken, tilapia sandwiches, shrimp po’ boys, and so much more throughout the area, including catering events and at his First Street restaurant." - Justine Jones, Alex Lodner

"Chef Tony O’Neil dishes up densely flavorful jerk chicken wings, loaded smoked gouda mac and cheese, and cornmeal-crusted catfish po’ boys at his new(ish) Duluth restaurant Jamrock, which he recently relocated from across the port in Superior. Order a plate of the jumbo carnival shrimp, sauteed with ample jerk seasoning and served with a bright mango chutney, for the table." - Justine Jones, Alex Lodner, Joy Summers

I had the opportunity to visit Jamrock for the first time last night! Myself, my boyfriend, and a friend of ours stopped in at shortly after 8PM, and were happy to hear we were still in time to order takeout. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was immediately very calming and relaxing with beautiful artwork and lovely seating options. I enjoyed the fact that it was somewhat dark inside, rather than sickly bright with tons of lighting - for someone like myself with sensory problems, it was very enjoyable even just while we waited for our food. I ordered the daily special of jerk chicken tacos with corn bowl. It was absolutely incredible!!! From the first bite, I was in love with it. The flavors were phenomenal (the sauce that comes with the tacos is a MUST), the meat was tender and juicy, the shells were still in great shape despite a drive home, and the corn was delicious. My boyfriend had the jerk chicken gouda mac and cheese, and said it was great! There wasn't a noodle left in the bowl by the time he was done. Our friend had the same meal as myself, and he agreed that it was fantastic. Overall, it was phenomenal. I will definitely be enjoying meals from here again. And as somebody with Celiac disease, I can confidently say that I enjoyed my meal with zero negative aftereffects, which is always a great experience. 10/10, Jamrock. Thank you!

I already know how good the food is but I had to share how gorgeous my food looked. This was my first time sitting down at the new location and they didn’t disappoint. I ordered the steak over Gouda Mac and cheese. Everything was cooked to perfection, the vibe inside was chill,it was very clean and comfortable.Of course I’ll be back.💪🥂

Google
My wife and I got the curried goat, oxtails, and a summer rum punch. We ate outside - the weather was perfect, and just loved the food. Seriously tender meat with a delightful slow burn heat level. The drink was fun - licorice and candies for decorations. Chef Tony and his team absolutely know what they are doing. We'll be back! Thank you for the amazing food!

Google
Gem of a place! My jerk shrimp and smoked Gouda Mac was absolutely delicious, service was great, menu is super fresh/changes with seasonal ingredients. Feel so lucky to have this spot in Duluth.

Google
We’re visiting the area and most of the other restaurants were generic American burgers, steakhouses and pizza. This place looked different so we wanted to try. We arrived right around 6pm on a Friday night. We got a family dinner for $45 that probably could’ve served 5 people. Everything was delicious! The greens (and I’m not a huge “greens” person) were my favorite! The ribs, mac’n’cheese and yams were amazing. Would definitely recommend.

Google
Just amazing food. Every single bite just has so many flavors - everything we’ve had has been fantastic. The current style of service with just one or two meals each night allows such attention to detail that you won’t find anywhere else. If you’re looking for something unique in the Twin Ports, this is the place!

Google
We got jerk chicken, curry chicken, side was mac n cheese, beef patties, and coco bread. The chicken were dry, no flavors. The mac n cheese was disgusting, tasted like sour cream over noodles with burned cheese on the top. The Beef patties are patties from the dollar tree ( i bought some from there, looks, taste, and texture are the same), and the coco bread was chewy like it was heated in the microwave and was from the grocery store and its not even coco bread. Too expensive for what it is. Nothing taste like what it's supposed to. Probably the worse food I've ever had. Sorry, not worth it.

Google
Unfortunately, I have to be honest. Coming from the south, I'm used to not trusting any Caribbean food restaurants in the North. I was very hopeful. I saw the rating of 4.4 on Google , and it is deceiving. The atmosphere, decor, and service are great. However, I came for grilled wings and a beef patty. Half of the menu was missing. Then we ordered the coconut bread and the Jerk Chicken Gouda Mac and Cheese. That's what I ordered, but I received warmed up ciabatta bread with some sour butter dip and day old food. What I should have recognized was that it did not smell like food was cooking and no customers. Usually, that's the mom and pop type. Oh, I'm about to eat real food vibes. NOPE. The cheese was not cheesing. It was dry, and so was the chicken that had the flavor, but not fresh. My boss ended up eating more than me, and her stomach was hurting but the end of the night. My I knew first bite...THAT AINT IT. I was told by the waiter to vome.back when the owner is available. So sad. I live so far away, and the owner should make sure his food is consistent no matter when it is served.

Yelp
Had the jerk chicken with rice last night. Chicken was juicy and had great flavor, the rice soaked in all the juices from the chicken and they were dynamite together. The Mac and cheese is also excellent. The food came up quickly and service was great.

Yelp
Food was either overcooked, too salty, or not seasoned enough. Also we didn't know that all the menu items are not available every day. They only have a set list and they let you know, so you should probably call in before going. Parking isn't too bad. Atmosphere is well put together and there is a bar next door for drinks! Service was alright. There was only one chef so food took a LONG time.

Yelp
So it's Duluth, MN ....not exactly the bedrock of cultural diversity, so having a Jamaican restaurant is kind of impressive...I just wished the food was as impressive. We started off with patties and coco bread...the patties were definitely frozen and warmed up. It wasn't even flaky, it was chewy. The coco bread was NOT coco bread...I think it was a roll one can buy from Costco. Half of the menu items were unavailable, like cabbage and the curries (no chicken or goat curry). I opted for the boil and my friend the ox tail with Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was very good. Creamy and baked....it needed a little seasoning but overall a 7 out of 10. The ox tail was flavorful and tender. The only downside was the browning sauce was VERY salty...which pared well with the bed of rice and Mac and cheese...but stood out when ate alone. The most disappointing was the "seafood boil". I get it, it's northern Minnesota, but ummm . The "boil" came with steak...I asked for medium, it came well done. Good flavor just chewy. The garlic Parmesan sauce was good but was lukewarm. The whole bag that the food came in was lukewarm with the crab legs cold. The shrimp was very much cocktail shrimp, it had no flavor and was waaaay over cooked. I ate one cluster of crab legs...it was cold and didn't have any flavor...the boil was disappointing. Overall I'll rate the experience 5.5 outta 10.

Yelp
What a very cool experience eating at Jamrock. Thanks to Yelpsters, we found this treasure on the 4th of July. Due to the holiday, they were only offering a BarBQue platter, but it did not disappoint. On this platter was ribs, sausage, jerk chicken, baked yam, smoked Gouda Mac and cheese, collard greens, and baked beans. It was enough to feed a small army and was delicious. The service was great and we enjoyed visiting with the staff. Of course, there was great music playing and for a few minutes I thought I was in Jamaica, not Duluth!

Yelp
The food was so, so, so incredibly good! We had the jerk chicken and jerk pork with cornbread, island fries, mac'n'cheese, and plantains. Everything was seasoned perfectly, was bursting in flavors, and cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and juicy. The only minor thing to nag about is that the fries were not crispy and very oily. The restaurant has a very cool ambiance. Service was friendly. I will be back for sure!

Yelp
Carnival shrimp, rice and seasoned fries. Shrimp was EXCELLENT! Rice was a bit hard and tasteless. Fries were great. One dinner could feed 4 people. Coco bread was phenomenal. Crispy crust and soft center and tasty garlic butter. Highly recommend this place. Staff is friendly. A lot of items they were out of but lots to choose from. We will be back.

Yelp
Excellent food & service. I crave their jerk chicken at least once a week. The mixture of the chicken rice & coleslaw was fantastic. I would have never thought to put that combination together.

Sakinah M.

Yelp
Beautiful down to earth place to eat in Duluth. Love the vibe. The staff is awesome. The food was delicious especially the cabbage. Only wish they would offer some festival.

Al B.

Yelp
Its either Shut down or has strange unposted hours. Called-up, got an answering machine which did not state the business name. Walk over and it looked shut down or out of business. No hours of Operation on the door. 9/24 DONOT GO BY THE POSTED HOURS. Too bad seemed really nice, in an otherwise decrepit area.

Jeff B.

Yelp
Good food, the jerk chicken was great. a real Caribbean vibe. Friendly, good service. That part of Duluth looks tough, but Jamrock is great.

Pearl Z.

Yelp
Went here twice in my week long trip to Duluth. Definitely get the jerk chicken and the macaroni. Everything was seasoned to perfection. They do tend to run out of some of the items by the end of the day though so make sure you get there earlier if you want to try a particular dish

True R.

Yelp
A must stop if your in the area, especially if you love Jamaican & Caribbean food! So flavorful and cooked to perfection. Had the oxtails and the meat fell right off the bone. The mac and cheese was delicious, and the rice was perfect.

Note F.

Yelp
Food was delicious, the decor was cool and the waitress was wonderful. I got the jerk chicken sandwich and it was to die for!

Elaine P.

Yelp
Fantastic! Delicious jerk chicken, very moist and flavorful. Mac and cheese and bread great starters...will definitely be back to try more of the menu'

Eve R.

Yelp
We enjoyed the ambiance created by the large scale graffiti on the walls and the colorful light globes. The service was relaxed due to only two people working and a steady stream of take out customers but we weren't in a rush. We tried the jerk shrimp entree with collards and the jerk chicken sandwich. The shrimp was well flavored and the collards had kick and zing. The sandwich was okay, the bread was pretty bland. I wanted to like the food more but probably wouldn't make an effort to go back.

Jamie O.

Yelp
I have been cheering on Chef Tony from across the Lake for a minute and finally got to try when the deep fried lobster dinner was announced for today! There are no words for how good this was! Giant lobster tail, generous portion of jerk shrimp, garlic asparagus, and cheese biscuits..... Come on! So. Crazy. Good. I fear I will be eating here everyday they are open moving forward.

Mike T.

Yelp
Ordered delivery cause the food was supposed to be good. Got a jerk chicken sandwich with no jerk sauce, on what was definitely not coco bread. 100% bland, completely dry as a bone. Fries on the other hand were soggy on the outside, but raw in the middle, such that the overwhelming flavor was raw potato. Ordered 2 chicken patties, got 2 beef. They at least had a bit of flavor, but were limp and soggy. 0/10, not a single piece of my meal was enjoyable, which was super disappointing because I adore Jamaican food. Just didn't actually get anything that resembled it.

Yelp
It's EXTREMELY hard to find a good restaurant in Duluth and this might the best best out of 2 (phoholic)! Y'all are a diamond in the rough. Great food. Jerk chicken slaps. Good people. By far the best food in downtown and it's not even close I'm sorry.

Kirk A.

Yelp
Good food but slow service with 1 waitress. Need to add one more waitress then it would be great!

Suzanne J.

Yelp
I've been watching all the buzz about Chef Tony's food all summer long from 85 miles away. Finally got the opportunity to grab some takeout and was blown away! Tonight he was serving his Crab Legs, corn, rice and a cheesy biscuit. It was mind blowing. The corn on the cob was the best I've had! EVER! The rice was killer too. The best part were the crab legs. I didn't have any kind of tool for cracking open the legs so I just dove in with my hands. Cracking those legs open like a ravenous wolf on a three legged lamb or something. Crab meat flying everywhere. I had to wipe it off my glasses. I think I even scared the dogs a little. LOL. Anyway... it was the best meal I've had in a very long time. Totally impressed. Go there early or you risk missing out.

Yelp
Delicious jerk chicken! The sides are awesome as well. Mac n cheese was a great compliment to the chicken and green beans. Warm and chill atmosphere with friendly service. Definite yes for locals and visitors!

Bryn M.

Yelp
Jamrock just opened up in downtown Duluth and we had dinner there tonight. Cute little hole in the wall with excellent music and a casual, laid back vibe. My mister had curry goat and I had jerk shrimp. We shared sides: fried plantains and garlic butter green beans, as well as chicken patties for our apps. It was a TON of food and so delicious! Only thing we were a little taken aback was a slight discrepancy in the prices on two items between what was on the menu and what we were actually charged. We didn't worry about it, because we feel we got our money's worth and we don't like quibbling over such things, and we just assume it was a start-up snafu. This is our new go-to restaurant for when we don't want to cook, though. Yum yum.

Marty K.

Yelp
The food looks awesome..haven't tried it but the owner opts to delete all negative messages from his facebook page and bars them from his page.

Consumer O.

Yelp
Heard about this place but never been here before they ran out of food. Got here early to stand in line. No menu, price or even an explanation of what their entree was. Charged 60$+ for 2 styrofoam containers of raw pasta Alfredo and a small dried out jerk chicken breast. Horrible and overpriced. Dinning room only had a couple tables occupied by single dinners. Way overpriced. No ambiance. Lukewarm food. More ego than talent here. Counter guy was nice. That was the only positive. Side note have lived in Jamaica. Knows what good food is.

Celeste B.

Yelp
Wonderful food! The loaded Mac and cheese with shrimp was amazing! The jerk chicken was insanely tender and flavorful. Great portions as well. Highly, highly recommend!

Carol A.

Yelp
We loved their signature Jamaican bone-in jerk chicken with Gouda mac and cheese, plus we had the street corn! Our taste buds were so delighted!

Kendra W.

Yelp
A delicious locally owned and operated carribean restaurant! Gives wonderful flavors and even vetter vibes! I've been eating from chef Tony sense he was out selling plates on 1st st during bar close all the way through the opening of his restaurant on 1st st! I've never been disappointed by his food and I've eaten there many many times! The food is always on point!

Joanne D.

Yelp
If I can give a Negative star I would. The food is tasteless and unseasoned by caribbean standards. Do not waste you time or money. That is the only so called caribbean restaurant in this area. These people are clueless as to what good caribbean food taste like. The food was horrible, it went straight to the trash. "The jerk chicken and rice"

Davis W.

Yelp
Good and service was wonderful. Very kind employees that really made the place cool and relaxing. The food was great and had some delicious Caribbean flavor. I got the chicken sandwich and it was good just lacking a bit of flavor. Overall, I will definitely be back to try more of their menu.

Christy L.

Yelp
Friends. I don't even know where to start. This is not something you will find everywhere. What first intrigues me is the concept of a dish of the day, it's ready at 1600, come and get some ASAP because, when it's gone, it's gone and if you miss it, you're gonna be sorry like I was last Friday at 1730. So, saw on the menu today it was going to be a ribeye smothered burrito with home made chips and pico. Um yah, I planned my whole day around getting there at 4 pm, and Jamrock, you did not disappoint. The "two-fisted" burrito was just that, except I cut mine with a fork and knife because I just like to roll like that. Inside that burrito was more than half steak, cooked perfectly. The rest was some rice with veggies, and maybe beans (I'm sorry, I was really focused on that steak), the top had really the most flavorful cheese sauce I've had and some jerk sauce. Just the right amount of smoky heat, without setting your mouth ablaze. Also in that box was a healthy serving of home made tortilla chips topped with sour cream and a mango pico. The mango balanced perfectly with the cilantro and white onion. This is an experience. Check the menu, make it your most important activity of the day, get there when they open and order an extra plate because tomorrow, when you are thinking about how freaking amazing that was, you'll be thanking yourself you have another. We do!!!

Lynda B.

Yelp
Finally got my butt across the water to try this out. Oh wow. So good! Had the seafood boil type dinner with extra legs. We didn't have our tools with us so had to just go all in with our hands. I look back and say it was part of the fun. I great excuse to taste the jerk sauce over and over, 10 fingers at a time. Can't wait until our next opportunity to head on over and try again.

Sharon L.

Yelp
The menu is varying daily and brings both southern and island flavors to the Midwest. Is is such a refreshing change from the usual bland bar fare at most restaurants around here. The jerk chicken is as good or better than the chicken I've had on regular trips to Jamaica! I have eaten his food probably 20 times and it has been outstanding every time! Everything from jerk chicken Alfredo to seafood boil to oxtails to snapper to wings, just delicious! Tony's food has flavor, something sorely lacking around here!

Britt N.

Yelp
10/10 So good! Chefs choice was Tiger Prawns and grits and it was amazing and made me miss the islands. So glad we found this place while driving through.

Jamie G.

Yelp
Awesome shrimp and grits. Portion size was huge. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were huge, fresh and plentiful. The fried okra was amazing and I got it steamed from delivery. Still ate them. All. Corn bread was probably the best I've ever had and I lived in Atlanta for years. Can't wait to try whats next!

Jeff H.

Yelp
Fantastic Jamaican/Caribbean food! I had the Jamrock bacon burger, smoked pork ribs and mac & cheese. All three were spicy and awesome. A little pricy but worth it. Super friendly service. Only about 4 indoor tables and a few outside so is mainly a take-out place, so don't be surprised if you see a line outside; it was pretty speedy. A great local option by a small-business owner. I'll definitely be making this place a regular dinner option.

Jean B.

Yelp
OH MY GOD!! This food is amazing. I am on round two and I still have half of it left. Thank you thank you thank you Chef Tony! Wow what an amazing combination of tastes. I love the new hot sauce but I'm very happy I ordered it on the side. can't wait to order more Jamaican food.

Pamela C.

Yelp
It's dangerous to drive back to Lakeside in Duluth from picking up an order. The aroma is intoxicating!! We get two orders, not because we can eat them both in one sitting, but because they're that good. The Rasta pasta is amazing. Real flavor, real heat. This is hard to come by in these parts. (I'm not from around here.) The stuffed salmon is sublime. Congrats on your move, we'll be visiting you there as well!
