Koreatown’s Jun Won Restaurant Is Closing This Week Due to the Pandemic | Eater LA

"A beloved Koreatown homestyle restaurant founded by Jung Ye Jun and operated with her son Jeff Jun, I consider Jun Won one of the neighborhood’s most cherished and longest-running traditional Korean spots: it occupied 8th Street for over twenty years before reopening in a new location along Western Avenue in 2016, and even ran a banchan store on 8th Street that closed a few years ago despite producing some of the city’s best prepared Korean dishes. After 26 years in business, Jeff announced on Instagram that the restaurant will be closing due to the pandemic and its economic fallout; Won told Eater that much of Jun Won’s menu—larger-format dishes like braised short ribs, bossam, and spicy braised black cod—simply don’t travel well for takeout, its semi-hidden strip-mall location made outdoor dining impractical, and the indoor dining room has been closed since the March stay-at-home order. While the price point was reasonable for the quality, the time-intensive preparation of many dishes made them less accessible during the crisis. Fans have the rest of the week to call in and pick up meals, and Mama Los Angeles will be taking preorders via Instagram to help the restaurant’s final week of service." - Matthew Kang

I have been coming here since I was a kid (in my 30s now) , my Korean family’s go-to for Korean Chinese. I love this place, nostalgic and food always hits. The staff are always nice but you come here for the food not for the service as it is at any old school Korean restaurant. Their jampong, fried rice, jajangmyun, and tangsuyuk are my favorite.

Google
Amazing food. Must try the JaJiang noodles and spicy soup which has 'wok hey' or smokey flavor that makes it fantastic. Lots of Korean on my 2 consecutive visits, makes it even more authentic! Would be awesome if they serve zero sugar Soju! :)

Google
It's a good restaurant to eat Korean-Chinese food like jja jang noodle, jjam bong and tank su yuk. The place was clean, and the food came so quickly. I would like to go here again.

Google
Jang Won is a solid choice for Korean cuisine in Annandale. The service was excellent—attentive, friendly, and quick, which made the dining experience even better. The menu has a great variety of traditional dishes, and the flavors were tasty and well-prepared. I liked their seafood noodles and beef bibimbap the most. The food portion was large. The atmosphere is cozy and clean. The place could get a bit noisy when busy. Would definitely return.

Google
The best Korean-style seafood noodles and Korean jajangmyeon in the entire DMV! The lunch prices are super reasonable for the quality.

Tummy cells were satisfied!!! Family was happy! We will be back when we are in the area again! yummmmm

Google
Honestly the best jjanjangmyeon in the area. The sauce has much better and stronger flavor than other places nearby. Eating at the restaurant is great, take out is fine but NEVER EVER order delivery. It’ll take way too long and the food will be room temperature and soggier which is a risk you take with delivery but it seemed like there was a large gap between when the food was ready and the delivery started. I also requested extra kimchi in multiple ways since I ordered a lot of food for a large group and they gave me no kimchi and one small thing of radish/onions which was really disappointing

Google
My all-time favorite Korean-style Chinese restaurant in DMV. Food is consistently good, excellent quality with superb taste, very generous portions, reasonable price, and attentive service from the staff. The delicious Korean staples are Jja-jang-myon (black bean noodles) and Ttang-su-yuk (Fried pork with sweet sauce). Steam dumplings and Yang-Jang-pi (seafood and vegetables with mustard sauce) are tasty. The decor needs to be updated and feels a bit old. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Well... I have enjoyed their black bean noodle, spicy seafood noodle, and fried pork nuggets. On top of that, I love their excellent customer service and the owner's thoughtful care fo their customers. Come and support this local business. Food quality: 5/5 Food Price: 5/5 Customer Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Cleaness: 5/5

Yelp
Food 3.5/5 Service 3/5 Location 4/5 Food was good, just on par for this area full of Korean food. The lower rating is because of the forced 20% gratuity that was not disclosed anywhere on the menu for parties 8 or higher. They also auto charge tip on tax which is not right..We learned of the auto tip when we got the bill, which is always a big no no for me. Food pricing is already pretty high for these types of food. The waitress got a few of our orders wrong. We also had to flag them down for things like refilling our waters. Parking lot is somewhat limited for the size of the restaurant and not in the best condition. We got a variety of food: Jia Jia Mian - this is a great dish, even the small came with a good portion of noodles Seafood noodle soup - also great, tons of flavor Seafood pancake - good, but felt it was a little too oily compared to others I've tried and pretty expensive too Khang Pung Sal - was eh would not specifically recommend Donkatsu - good, nice and crispy pork and large portion See pics for the food, which again was on par for the area but with all the aforementioned issues, I will be going elsewhere for my Korean fix.

Yelp
Jang Won Ban Jum might be my new place to get Korean-Chinese food. It's right across the street from the K-Market International plaza is so it's very easy to find. I came here on a tuesday afternoon and it was not busy at all! I got their Tang Bok Bap (63) dish. It's Half Tang Su Yuk (Sweet & Sour Pork) & Fried Rice. A match made in heaven for me. You get banchan, the kimchi was really good and I think the server knew that I was eating that a lot where I had refills of it 2-3 times? You also get cuts of onion, ginger and black bean sauce as well. The Tang Bok Bap was very delicious and I would even say enough to get you full for lunch or even dinner. I liked that the plate is split in half so you can mix your food if you wanted to try out new flavors or just prefer to eat things one side at a time. I will definitely come back here. I would love to try out their Jjajangmyun sometime!

Yelp
Came here for lunch as we were fixing our tires at tires plus and it's right next door. Super packed but was Easily seated. Very extensive menu, there is definitely something for you. We decided to get combo meals since I couldn't decide between them. Very great portion sizes and love the noodles in both dishes. I think I will try the fried pork and veggies combo next time with the jjam bong. I've gotten to go here before and have never been disappointed.

Yelp
This is my favorite spot in Annandale for Korean Chinese noodles. The parking is limited but the food is worth the trouble. The staff here are fast and friendly. The place can be loud when full but what you'd expect from a popular Asian joint. The food is made fresh to order. The jajangmyeon noodles are my favorite in the area with plenty of flavor. The tangsuk/ sweet and sour pork is crispy and one of the best in the area. The prices are reasonable and I would recommend this spot to check out.

Yelp
I was craving for Korean food, and I asked several friends for recommendations. They all said Jang Won! My girlfriend and I shared an order of Jajangmyeon and Jjamppong and tangsuyuk. All dishes felt authentic to us. Each dish brought its own distinct comfort and flavor, making our meal deeply satisfying. Highly recommend the Jjam ja myun, where you get the best of both Korean noodle dishes. The portions were also very generous even though the noodles were half portioned, and we were completely full at the end. The vibes of the restaurant felt traditional, and service was also very kind and sweet!

Yelp
The jajangmyeon was a bit underwhelming--bland and lacking depth--but their jjambbong more than makes up for it. I got the crab jjambbong and it was phenomenal: rich, spicy broth, generous seafood, and that hard-to-find wok hei flavor that gives it a smoky depth you usually only get from a good stir-fry. I've tried their other jjambbong varieties too, and they're just as solid. Service is respectful and kind, which makes the spicy seafood warmth hit even better. Definitely a jjambbong-first kind of spot.

Yelp
This place was suggested to me by a friend as one of their favorite Asian restaurants in the area. I would have to agree. The service was above and beyond accommodating. They never let our glasses be empty and were always ready to address us and the other customers in need of anything. We started with an order of the fried pork dumplings, which were so fresh and packed with meat. I ordered the Chicken Tang Su Yuk as my main meal. It comes out with the chicken plain and then the side of sauce which I appreciate because it helps keep the chicken crunchy until you want to consume it. The flavor was great. We also had a side of vegetable fried rice. The veggies and rice had a rich flavor and were not overly oily has many other places make fried rice. The venue was clean and tidy.

Yelp
Im surprised the rating here is so low! This is our go to place for jjajangmyun and donkatsu! The donkatsu is crisped to perfection everytime and is huge! My favorites noodle wise to order is the jjajangmyun and the jjampong! The jjampong has that fire taste from the wok that is amazing!! The noodles are chewy for both and the portions are generous. Protip: come for a weekday lunch before 230pm to save and get some discounts off of some of the main dishes!!

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday a little before noon and the restaurant was already busy!! Got seated immediately and ordered quickly which was nice as I needed to get to the airport by 02:30 pm. Staff was very friendly, polite and so nice. We got an order of the Mandoo which was crisp, chewy and juicy. I ordered the Szechuan Pork Gan Jajang, and Deedee ordered the Bulgogi Dupbap, both were excellent. Sadly mine could have used more noodles. Ambiance of the restaurant was on point and really appreciate that there wasn't any problem with parking as the lot was big and didn't appear to be shared with other businesses!

Yelp
Jangwon Banjum is hands down phenomenal! The food is incredibly authentic Korean-Chinese with a menu full of so many delicious options -- you truly can't go wrong no matter what you order. We started with the fried chicken drenched in sweet sauce that you can pour over yourself, and it was a fantastic appetizer. For my main, I had the chicken, shrimp, bokchoy, and noodle soup, and it was absolutely amazing -- so flavorful and comforting. Even as leftovers, it was still fantastic after being reheated! The service was efficient and straightforward, and attentive. We were seated in a side room, which was a nice touch for our larger group.

Yelp
This restaurant was very unsuspecting, but is serving up some great Korean comfort food! There are very few places that blew me away, but this place did exactly that. Almost every dish I tried was amazing. The noodles were the perfect chewy texture, the fried pork and squid had a great crunch/outer layer, and the spicy noodle broths were deep with seafood flavors. The Korean aunty was also very nice and helpful making sure my large group was taken care of. If you're unable to come in a large group to try everything, I would definitely try the Jjam Bbong, Ja Jang Myun and the Khan Pung Squid!

Yelp
Came here with my parents for late lunch and there were a good amount of people. We ordered the rajogi(?), tangsuyuk, jjampong, and the jjampong/fried rice combo. Everything came out hot and was good. I have had better, but the rajogi dish will bring me back as not all Korean-Chinese restaurants have that dish. Overall satisfied with the dining experience.

Yelp
We've ordered jjajangmyeon via Uber Eats twice now and are huge fans! The large dish is quite massive, and my husband and I could easily share one dish and barely finish it. The noodles have a great chewy texture to them and the sauce is so flavorful! I also LOVE that they have jjampong soup! This addresses the old-time dilemma of whether to order jjajangmyeon or jjampong because now you can have both! We also share the dumplings, which are always so crispy and delicious.

Yelp
Loved it here. I know there are so many options for Korean food in this area, so coming from S Jersey, it was a little overwhelming to pick just one place (we are so lacking with excellent Korean food options where we live). But I really wanted kkanpunggi so our friend chose this place. It was really delicious as well as the janangmyeon as well as this one mushroom dish we never had before (blanking on the name). We were SO happy. The service was great and the restaurant looked like a typical Korean restaurant and it was clean. I'd def go back the next time we visit!

Yelp
Annandale Jang Won is a hit or a miss. Sometimes the food is on point but it's not consistent lot of the times. Centerville is usually the spot to go to they never miss a beat. Koreans that know, know what I am exactly talking about. What I got today was kong-guksu(콩국수) it's a seasonal soybean noodle. It's perfect during extreme hot days. To people that haven't tried it it's little bland so they give you sea salt to season it. Best thing to do is if you eat kimchi pour some kimchi into the noodle and mix the soup and eat it. It's definitely perfect for hot days.

Yelp
Came here last week with a few friends! Love going to this casual homey feeling place. The service is super quick and the food here is so affordable at a huge portion. the spicy dumplings ($12) 4/5: great flavor, wish it was actually spicy. Nothing kimchi couldn't fix! Jajangmyeon ($10): 5/5 this is my fav spot to get it in town, everything from the noodles and sauce! Sweet and sour pork: (part of the $14 combo): 4/5 wish it was a little more cooked but flavor was there. They were so nice and let us stay longer to unbox our little toys. We loved it here and would def rec!

Yelp
My friends and I dined in this time. The quality was great. Portions are big! see pic of shrimp- the sauce was great but it makes it soggy after a while. portion was smaller than i expected for the shrimp too. Inside is very casual ambiance. There was also a party happening in the back corner. I appreciated the server letting us know, so she told us to get our order in as soon as we can before they started haha. Overall great food, I somehow enjoyed the experience of eating it as takeout better.

Yelp
Absolute comfort food and I'm not even Korean, the food is just THAT delicious. The food from Jang Won Ban is just so good and somehow seems like food your Asian mom/grandma/auntie made. There are a bunch of dishes and the portions are huuuge. The place definitely gets busy but we have never had to wait for a table or too long for service. The service is direct and fast and then kind of leaves you alone for the rest of your meal, which we totally don't mind! The restaurant is super casual and seems typical of more traditional Asian food places. There are no frills to the service or the restaurant, it is just good food, and that is what we are there for!

Yelp
Every single time we give Jang Won Ban Jum a try, we always regret it, knowing that our jajangmyun fix will never be satisfied from here. I think maybe there was one time out of all the visits we've had that was actually decent, but the last couple of visits finally made us realize that we've had enough. One visit, the server didn't write down the order correctly and ended up trying to blame us, stating that she had 'heard us' saying a combo meal, which never happened. I ended up canceling my order outright and chose not to eat. You'd think that would have been the last time, but being a sucker, we went back again for an early dinner; the tang soo yook was chewy (not in a good way) and seemed to have been fried in old oil; the beef inside was not seasoned, and it was super gristly and not good. The jajang noodles were watered down, while the noodles were overcooked and swollen. Not sure why there would ever be any inconsistency as they make their noodles in house (supposedly), and shouldn't there be a tried-and-true timer to cook the noodles perfectly al dente? Service is always fine, and the owner is always welcoming. This place is always packed, but I just can't ever understand why. I know this place is a favorite for most, but for me it's no dice. +overcooked noodles +watered down sauces +fried items cooked in old oil +friendly owner +tight and limited parking available

Yelp
I love the atmosphere of this place! Very chill but can get busy quick. The service was very friendly and not rushed at all. They came to check on us several times. The food is delicious! Everything we ordered was tasty. I especially enjoyed the spicy stir fried squid. The only downside is the lack of banchan but the ones that were included were good. I'll be coming back for sure!

Yelp
Jang Won Ban Jum is a great casual Korean-Chine restaurant. Their menu is very distinct from Chinese Chinese and American Chinese offerings. With multiple good Korean Chinese restaurants in the area, I used to rotate among them. Lately, however, I find myself back at this place every time. The differences are subtle but noticeable. As an example, the Jang Won Ban Jum at the Centreville location tends to make their plates like Jjajangmuyn sweeter. It is matter of preference, but I prefer how they make it at the Annadale location. Other Korean Chinese restaurants in the area have different strengths, and I have not found any bad Korean Chinese restaurant in the area. The reason I keep gravitating back to Jang Won is because of their JjamPong and Jjajangmyun. The basic staples of Korean Chinese casual food. I enjoy their other dishes as well, but it is important for me to like the basics first. With the trend of many Korean restaurants converting into a K-BBQ places with elevated prices, I am very happy that Jang Won is remaining a casual restaurant with reasonable prices. This place is perfect for my need for comfort food in a casual environment.

Yelp
One of the best seafood noodle places in town, & it's VERY hot spicy! I thought I can eat spicy foods, then tried the hot pepper spicy seafood noodle with my Korean friend....Barely walked out the restaurant straight! SPICY but it's really good!

Yelp
Our first visit was great! Food came out as ordered and efficient. However, the second time we visited-it was less than good. 1) we ordered fried potstickers. It was "fried" but the meat inside was frozen. When they brought it back, they didn't refill the ones we bit into initially, and it seemed like they just microwaved it. Yuck! 2) got the seafood noodles but it came out with chicken. We couldn't find anyone to help us replace it and I wasn't going to wait 20 more minutes to get it replaced. 3) no serves is available for water refills or bring over napkins. 4) then, we had to chase them down to get our check. It was just a waiting game at this restaurant. Probably not going to come back here again.

Yelp
I've heard great things about this authentic Korean Chinese restaurant, and it was up to its hype. Prices ares really good for the portions you get. I also can be picky about my jajangmyeon, but it tasted really good with little meat bits and soft noodles. I also loved the tangsuyuk, which was perfectly crispy and sweet with the sauce. What a satisfying meal. Staff were friendly and quick, and I loved the decor of this restaurant.

Yelp
Annandale is basically the Koreatown of the DMV (though Centreville might be able to claim the same title), so the area is already fairly saturated with tasty Korean food. Jang Won Ban Jum is a favorite among locals, which is definitely a sign of respect given the amount of Koreans in the area! The restaurant is located in a standalone building among a plethora of strip malls, and upon entering, it's a fairly large space with plenty of wooden tables, and colorful pictures of Chinese-Korean fusion food adorning the walls. At around 8pm on a Saturday night, the restaurant was about 3/4 full, and my party of three was able to get seated immediately (though we were warned in advance that the restaurant was going to close at 9pm - just something to keep in mind). The menu is extensive, with pages upon pages of classic Korean-style Chinese food, ranging from JJja-jang-myeon (black bean noodles) and Ttang-su-yuk (fried pork with sweet sauce) to more adventurous fare, such as Khan Pung Soft Crab (deep-fried softshell crab in a spicy garlic and chili sauce). For those that can't choose, they offer a variety of combos containing some of their more popular dishes, so you can get a half portion of each! They come out with small portions of banchan (Korean side dishes), which were kimchi (overly garlicky, but not too fermented) and pickled radish and onions (just sweet enough, and refreshing with our entrees!) - they are also more than happy to give you a refill if you ask. My brother and I were hungry, but my dad wasn't, so my brother ordered a medium portion of their Khan Pung Sal (deep fried boneless chicken & vegetables in garlic and chili sauce, $20.99 for medium) as well as a medium Jajang Myun (black bean noodles served with vegetables and pork, $10.99). The medium portion of the Khan Pung Sal was actually quite large, and my brother was able to split it with my dad. The chicken was expertly fried, with a crispy exterior of not-too-thick breading, and a juicy, moist interior. The sauce's spice level was perfect - just hot enough to make you sweat a little, but not overly so to overpower the taste of the chicken. It's also served with tiny cubed carrots and peas, and pairs nicely with rice. Additionally, the "medium" portion of Jajang Myun was actually huge, and they give you a lot of that addictive, savory black bean sauce replete with onions and diced pork - so much so that we debated asking for a bowl of rice to pair with the leftover bowl of sauce! The noodles were the perfect thickness and texture: chewy while soaking up all the flavors of the sauce. I opted for a Tang Jja Myun Combo, which is a half portion of their tang su yuk (sweet and sour deep fried pork) and jjajangmyun. It came in a huge two-compartment bowl, with generous pieces of crispy pork soaked in a sauce akin to General Tso's Chicken sauce, as well as a large portion of Jajang Myun noodles (seriously, I couldn't believe that this was a half portion of each - I finished my entire bowl, but I was absolutely stuffed!). Overall, this is a really great place in Annandale if you're craving Korean-style Chinese food: the portions are generous, the food is really tasty, and I think there's something for everyone. 5 stars from me!
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Updated review for Jangwon - The dumplings are a great appetizer! These are great if you don't want the extra large dishes (that are also pricy). The jjajangmyun is still great and so are the half and half options. I think this is the most solid Korean-Chinese place in the Annandale area.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of coming here with some regular visitors who helped us navigate a menu with lots of great choices. All of the fried chicken and pork dishes were phenomenal and seafood noodles were awesome with a light, savory broth. The fried dumplings were actually deep fried unlike Chinese style pot stickers. Authentic Korean / Chinese dining experience well suited to those not familiar with the cuisine .

Yelp
I honestly never would've never have thought to try this place if it weren't for my Korean friend and my Chinese recommended we try this place out. Funny enough, this place is Korean-Chinese fusion -- a combo I never thought about before if I'm being truly honest Here's what I liked: THE ENTREES Here, you'll truly experience a Korean-Chinese fusion in terms of the taste, textures, and flavors! We got the following: * jjajangmyun - black bean sauce with onions and small pieces of beef, topped with scallion, all on top of thick noodles. this was one of my favorites as it was super flavorful and eating this with the other dishes complemented each other really well. -- * jjampong- spicy seafood noodle soup; again thick noodles, SPICY seafood broth, small bits of baby octopus and mussels WOW was this spicy or what?! it wasn't too spicy that it was difficult to eat, but just enough to leave a nice simmer on your palate. I loved the baby octopus bits as it added a nice bite next to the noodles. __ * khan pung ki- spicy garlic fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce notes so... the flavor was on point but it COULD'VE been better. I wish they had kept the sauce on the said just like they did with the tangsuyuk so that the integrity of the crispiness wouldn't have been compromised. This also could been just a LITTLE bit spicer as I was expecting this to destroy my stomach but it was almost too mild to even consider it spicy __ * pork tangsuyuk- sweet and sour pork with the sweet and sour sauce with veggies on the side they did a really good job with this dish. because they kept the sauce on the side, the pork maintained its crunchiness. The taste of your typical Chinese sweet and sour dishes were there. However, if you're not too much of a fan of sweet and sour like me, you'll probably want to skip this dish. I still appreciated it for what it was!! __ THE SPACE my group got placed in a room with a bamboo sliding door that closed off behind us and it really made me feel like we were in Asia. It was especially good because we are very loud when we laugh, and we laughed a lot And here's what I thought could be better: THE APPETIZERS () Most Korean places in Annandale give you a wide variety of Korean appetizers, which are my favorite part of walking into a Korean restaurant. However, as my Gen Z friends called it, the appetizers were truly "mid" or mid-tier, nothing to be totally impressed about for those struggling to keep up with Gen Z slang (me too). All we got were two small servings of the following: kimchi, yellow daikon radish, and raw onion with a side of black bean sauce. They all tasted store bought and I guess I'm just not the type to eat raw onion (though it wasn't as harsh on the tastebuds as I thought it was going to be) Overall, if you're looking for Korean Chinese fusion, you know what you want, and you can pass up on the appetizers, you'll have a good experience!

Yelp
Sometimes a bowl of noodles is all it takes to make everything better. This was my first time checking out this restaurant. I was in the mood for something hot and filling so I ordered the Gan Jajang. Made with black bean sauce and seafood there was enough for two portions. I ended up taking half of it home. The prices were very reasonable and perfect for a quick late night meal.

Yelp
Great Korean Chinese restaurant. Huge portions and reasonable prices. I got the half spicy seafood and half black bean noodles. I could barely finish the Jjampong. We also got Tang Soo yuk (korean style sweet and sour pork). Crispy pork and the sauce was super thick and tasted great. Fast service. If you want to try Korean Chinese this is the place to go.

Yelp
solid spot. coming from nyc, the prices are music to my ears. $20 all in for jjamjjyun w tax and tip- and you get the best of both worlds! the service was extremely quick and the staff were kind. comfort food spot that's easy for quick seating on a weeknight

Yelp
Seeing the average rating of 3/5 on Yelp made me hesitant on checking Jang Won out, but one of my friends insisted that this was his family's go-to restaurant for Korean-Chinese cuisine. 10 of us came here for lunch this past Sunday and it was quite packed. Luckily, we were seated quickly despite having no reservations. I really enjoyed the kimchi here - not sure why, but my friends weren't eating much of it? That's fine by me because I can enjoy more of it. The kimchi isn't overly fermented and has a good crunch. I love the seasoning/marinade they used on it. Thankful that we were able to refill it a few times throughout the meal. TANG SU YUK (MEDIUM) - 18.99 You have the option to get pork or chicken so our table got a medium plate of each. The breading was delicious and perfectly crispy. I liked that it was on the blander side so that way the flavor of the meat can shine through. However, I felt like the chicken was pretty bland in terms of taste, so I had to smother lots of the sweet & sour sauce (which was tasty and thicccc) on it. I personally think the pork was much better and you can actually taste the pork! I would definitely recommend the pork tang su yuk here, but not the chicken (unless you don't eat pork!) COMBO: BOK JJA MYUN - 14.99 Apparently, the combos here are great because the portions are huge and you're able to sample multiple things. I'm glad I shared this with one of my friends because this stuffed us up really well. We got the combo with half fried rice (vegetarian) and half jjajangmyun. The fried rice was well seasoned - I liked that it was a bit more on the "bland" side (simple seasoning is good enough for me). It had good ingredients (peas, carrots, eggs, etc.) and you could actually taste individual grains of the rice (not too dry nor mushy). The jjajangmyun had lots of onions in the black bean sauce. The noodles were perfect in terms of texture (not too soggy or hard) and the black bean sauce was flavorful and tasty! A bit too much onions in here (probably like at least half an onion, lol) but that's OK. I'd probably come here with someone who speaks Korean - seems like they're a lot nicer to you if you're able to communicate with them in Korean. Overall, solid food for the price and again, the kimchi was delicious.

Yelp
Hey Jang Won Look, I admit, I am not from around here. Though I've had some incredibly good Korean/Chinese food in LA and in the Bay Area... I currently live in a place where Asian food is hard to come by... So... my rating might be a little (positively) skewed since... my appreciation for ANY Asian food has skyrocketed since I don't get enough of it anymore. Even "OK" food taste so good to me. Not to say yours was average... it was good! I was just so happy to eat at a legitimate Asian place that frankly, I inhaled your food like I was never going to eat it again. The dishes we tried were Seafood Jajangmyeon (yum), Tangsuiyuk (oh crispy, well done), and Khan Pung Shrimp (I dont normally order this as it's not my favorite but others did.. it was good for what it was). The food overall was good. The noodles were chewy which is how it should be done. Prices were reasonable. Service was good. Left so full and happy. Really hit the spot. If I had any constructive feedback... it would be to serve the individual jajangmyun first, and then bring out the shared dishes (ex. tangsuiyuk). That way we can eat our individual dishes and pick at the shared dishes. Both times I've been here the shared dishes came out first and were devoured while waiting for the individual dishes which took way longer. A lot of people weren't able to finish their own dish... so change up the order! Anyhow, glad to have met you. Friends brought me here one time, and the next time I brought my friends :) Alas, I don't live nearby so maybe some time in the future.

Yelp
Overall, they are a solid 4, but I'm bumping my rating higher because of the Mapo Tofu rice. Their Mapo Tofu rice has bits of beef that makes each bite super addicting. The sauce that comes with it is not overpowering and compliments the dish very well. My boyfriend loves their Jja Jang Myun (black bean sauce noodles) and Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour fried pork). We heard the Centreville location is better so we are excited to try. If you guys want solid Korean-Chinese food, Jang Won is a great place to try!

Yelp
This is my go to restaurant in Annandale! It's very consistent although I would say the food actually tastes better when you go during a rush like lunchtime. I go here once a week so I have tried many variations of their dishes and can vouch for all of them. The classics are the jajangmyun (black bean pork noodles) and jjambong (spicy seafood noodle soup). I love the volcano Jjambong for the heat but for those who don't like spicy food, I highly recommend the white seafood jjambong because it is flavorful in its own unique way. We also like the jangwon jajang which kinda tastes more lo-mein like than traditional jajangmyun. For appetizers, you gotta get the pork tang soo yuk (deep fried pork with sweet and sour sauce) or the chicken Kkanpungi (Korean pepper sauce wings) is delicious but has a mild peppery kick.

Yelp
I haven't been here in 5 years and its been way too long. Granted, I have a few other places that I like for Chinese Korean and this is probably the furthest away. Met a bunch of friends for dinner and we were seated quickly. Ordered a bunch of stuff to share: seafood pancake, dumplings, seafood jjam boong, jajang myun, pork Szechuan tang su yuk, and chicken tang su yuk. It was all very good and the portions are pretty large. Service was good, we found some foreign substance in one of our orders and they remade the dish. It took a while for it to come out, but it was freshly made (and hot!). Hopefully won't take another 5 years to come back, but this place is legit.

Yelp
Parking: so difficult! The lot is so tiny and crowded! Be careful going into the back, especially if there are cars behind you. It's almost impossible to get out if there are no spots! Honestly parking is a huge deal breaker for me lol Seating: there are more seats than parking spaces. So if you're able to find a parking spot, you'll find a seat. It can get quite crowded during peak hours. Food: the food is overall pretty good, but my whole table got our food late and it wasn't hot. Apparently this is the original Jangwon and they have a branch in centreville. I would go to the centreville one bc parking is so much better there! Bathroom: the bathrooms are near the front entrance. Price: it's pretty average. Some things may be more pricey, but that's usually bc it has seafood or it's a special. Service: unfortunately it was disappointing. The table next to us ordered later, but got their food first. So we asked and she brought out our food, but the egg was cold and the rice was slightly warm. So we all know our food was just sitting there for a long time ): not the best experience...

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service experienced right upon entry. We were seated right away for a party of 6 on a Tuesday evening around 6pm. There were a few open tables but within a few minutes it seemed the dinner rush occupied every table. The service was fast and very helpful. The taste was delicious and plentiful. Looking forward to returning and trying other items off their menu. Enjoy!

Yelp
Good Jjajang myun and pork Tangsuyuk. These are our absolute favorites here. We compare others to this one!

Yelp
Jang won is actually pretty good considering my daughter's picky taste buds. The servers are really nice to you will be quite surprised. The restaurant it self is pretty clean too even the bathrooms however the doors to the bathrooms do not lock.

Yelp
I was beyond surprised with their service and welcoming spirit. I felt like home eating here. The food was good I ordered 1 Jjajangmyeon and it was very good. If you want an authentic Korean/ Chinese food I would recommend coming here. Overall I loved it! And I would absolutely recommend it for a buddy!! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
The jampong had a really nice smoky flavor. The jjajjangmyun was decent. The ggangpoong shrimp was bad. Good flavor, but it was so soggy.

Yelp
I've been to the restaurant for dine-in and ordered online a few times, and the food and service has always been good. Online ordering was really easy- their website is clean and works well, and the food is always ready at the specified time. They've got a lot of great items on the menu, but you can't go wrong with the Jajangmyun- the sauce is delicious and the noodles have good texture. The Kkanpunggi (Khan Pung Ki on the menu), or deep fried chicken wings in a chili garlic sauce, are also a must-get. The wings are crispy and the sauce is really tasty- nice and garlic-y with a little kick to it. They are a bit sticky and messy though. I definitely will keep coming back- they do comfort food here really well!

Yelp
This restaurant was absolutely delicious! Everything came out so quickly and there was so much food. 4 people were able to split the gigantic spicy/sweet fried chicken dish! There was a lot of seafood in the noodles, and the broth was great! The jajiangmian was pretty standard for a Korean restaurant with a reasonable price point. It seems like they get a lot of takeout orders too, so I would recommend that as well if you're not comfortable eating in restaurants due to Covid! Servers were courteous and quick!

Yelp
Best Korean Chinese food in the area. I say this after having tried many of the Korean Chinese places around Annandale. The ones that focus on Korean Chinese are all pretty good, but Jang Won stands out. Definitely get the zhajiangmian, the noodles are cooked perfectly with a slight chew. The sauce has more depth compared to the standard bowl you find elsewhere, very hard to describe. The fried chicken - this was like 27$ (?) but it was worth it. One of the crunchiest fried chickens with a sauce that was nice mix of sweet salty and spicy (not too spicy). Enough to split amongst 3 ppl as a side. Honestly shocked that this place is rated sub 4/5. The service was fine, ambience fine as well. Food comes out super fast.

Yelp
I think this food was better than the regular Korean Chinese place I go to in md. The jjajangmyun is one of the best I've ever had and the tangsuyuk and kkamppungi were so good and crispy I have no complaints! One thing I don't like is when the servers watch you like they are your mother like she was walking up and down the tables and eyeing us down like a hawk. I mean I can't complain bc that is what you get with Korean servers especially as a Korean but I just don't love that kind of service. The seating was nice though the tables were well placed and the windows around the restaurant were cute. I'd go back maybe idk it was good

Yelp
Homely and cost Korean diner offering authentic food at an unbeatable price. We got the combo noodles and were stuffed to the brim. The food came really fast too and there is a cute Korean pastry shop close by which makes for a great stop for desserts if one still has stomach space for that after such a satisfying meal.

Yelp
While many Korean restaurants in Annandale and Northern VA have been going downhill, Jang Won has done a nice job of improving their food during the past few years. I come here mainly for their jjam pong/fried rice combo, but on my recent visit I decided to have their seasonal dish, kong-guksu (a cold noodle in soybean soup served in a cold soy milk broth) and tang-su-yuk (deep fried pork in sweet & sour sauce). Both dishes were excellent! Also, their kimchee is actually better than most Korean restaurants in Annandale. Service can be hit or miss. The few times I interacted with the owner, she's pretty rough around the edges. Many of the servers are very nice and attentive, and a few not so much.
