Koreatown’s Jun Won Restaurant Is Closing This Week Due to the Pandemic | Eater LA

"A beloved Koreatown homestyle restaurant founded by Jung Ye Jun and operated with her son Jeff Jun, I consider Jun Won one of the neighborhood’s most cherished and longest-running traditional Korean spots: it occupied 8th Street for over twenty years before reopening in a new location along Western Avenue in 2016, and even ran a banchan store on 8th Street that closed a few years ago despite producing some of the city’s best prepared Korean dishes. After 26 years in business, Jeff announced on Instagram that the restaurant will be closing due to the pandemic and its economic fallout; Won told Eater that much of Jun Won’s menu—larger-format dishes like braised short ribs, bossam, and spicy braised black cod—simply don’t travel well for takeout, its semi-hidden strip-mall location made outdoor dining impractical, and the indoor dining room has been closed since the March stay-at-home order. While the price point was reasonable for the quality, the time-intensive preparation of many dishes made them less accessible during the crisis. Fans have the rest of the week to call in and pick up meals, and Mama Los Angeles will be taking preorders via Instagram to help the restaurant’s final week of service." - Matthew Kang
