Janitor’s Closet

This is the first "speakeasy" I've been to in Chicago that feels like it was designed to be a secret. Small, cozy space with no more than 15 patrons and a single bartender. Cocktails were elegantly presented and delicious - my personal favorite was the Cafe con Leche. Make sure to reserve ahead of time on Resy.

Janitor’s closet is a cool spot and a welcomed change of pace compared to the rest of the night life in the area. I enjoyed the craft cocktails, low lighting, and music. I also dug that the menu is printed on thick plexiglass that’s kind of in the shape of a record folder. I’d love to see the owners of this business open up other places.

Fantastic experience! Here’s why: 1) Music was well-chosen and at the perfect volume: could hear my friend perfectly and didn’t have to shout but it filtered out the details of neighboring conversations. 2) The space is small and cozy but I never felt cramped or like I was too close to anyone and there always seemed to be at least one spot open in case there was a need for a polite reshuffling as new couples and trios came and went. 3) The man behind the bar (and it’s very existence) is extremely passionate about this establishment and it shows in every single detail from the exquisite and adventurous cocktail menu to the tools, mop heads, and pegboard decor to the intimate “get to know one another” ambiance encouraged by the mixologist’s warm smile he seems to default to. Potential issues for patrons with disabilities or support needs: the lighting is extremely dim, the basement level is accessible by elevator but there are approximately three stairs just beyond the entrance, accessible bathrooms are on the same floor but almost at the other end of the building, *I would feel very comfortable asking for accommodations at this business*

Celebrated my birthday and had a reservation for two, but waited 40+ minutes for drinks. There were only 9 guests in total out of the 13 max capacity. 3/4ths had drinks already served so we figured we'd wait because we were already there. Eventually the bartender finished a personal conversation and had to ask us for our order again, so we decided to leave.

A group of friends were staying in the hotel on a Tuesday night, we wandered down to the closet. Bartender makes great cocktails, tiny place with a great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming back to this place.
