Great food! Friendly staff! Just wipe down tables a bit and sweep. Tasty food and affordable!

My first experience included a BBQ, bacon, cheddar chicken with pepper jack cheese on a butter bun. My drink of choice was a banana shake that was a home run. Highly recommend visiting here if you are hungry and want something tasty.

I ordered through Grub Hub and this will be the last time. I ordered a large fry with ketchup and black pepper. The good part was they were crinkle fries. Bad part: they didn’t have the decency to put ketchup on all the fries, only about 5 of them which all of them were on top. The black pepper? Yea on 1-2 fries. Not ok. How can you be ok with sending out fries like that. Sure you can argue it’s only fries but it’s fries someone wanted, it’s fries that show how you care about an order going out of the door, that’s an order that represents the restaurant. An order that makes a customer write a bad review and say never again.

Burger was one of the best I've had🫡 Also with that ooold school music. Great place

II went there a few times very nice and clean the Hispanic man older cook he bad for business attitude NASTY for whatever reason I DON'T understand Y they keep him 💯 I ask for fries to be crispy he gets mad and he throws the food I ask for a simple hot dog he cannot follow directions Of No relish and mustard on it never fails he keep putting it on there it has an attitude 😏 other than that everyone else is very nice and the manager had to go show him not once but twice how to make a hot dog that's sad. He just need to find another job

I ordered a strawberry chicken field salad for the first time and it was very big but what bothered me was the very small salad dressing and they wanted me to pay for another dressing and it was over a dollar for it and I didn't want to charge my card it to my card so my point was is that if you are selling a very healthy portion salad then give a bigger size dressing not a 4 oz. One. I work in the food industry and that's how I know it should be. But the management was understanding when I explained this to him. So the salad was amazing!!

Absolutely DELISH!!! Janson's did not disappoint! Great service… diner feel atmosphere and sandwiches made to perfection! I tried the Salmon Sandwich & it was amazing… very well seasoned, moist, & quite delicious… the aioli sauce and vinaigrette both simply just add to this already amazing sandwich. Will definitely order again… if you enjoy eating salmon you may want to order two. Not large enough to share but just enough to share a little taste. Two Thumbs up on this masterpiece! I also ordered the Italian Beef & Italian Sausage combo dipped…w/mustard and sweet peppers; another great choice! Quite flavorful and absolutely delicious… will definitely return & those two are a definite must order.

I've given this 5 starts just so the owners get to see this. I traveled from Madison to Chicago on 05/28/2025 just to have the pulled pork everything. I ended up getting a dry sandwich with 2 slices of pickles on top. No sauce, no coleslaw, Nothing! Not even a fork! Unfortunately, I was far away when I realized this and could not drive back. What a disappointment! Definitely never going here again!!

Great Milkshakes we got a banana, and the pineapple and both were yummy. They use real fruit which is always a plus.

Oh my god they fell off so bad or they got a new cook in this shit is nasty and the meat is big as hell. bogus. I really want my money back.

One of the best turkey burgers I have had in a while. The strawberry shake with fresh strawberries was delicious. If back in the Chicagoland area will definitely eat again.

ZERO STARS!!!!! So dissatisfied and disappointed. Ordered the veggie burger as I have numerous times over the last 6 years plus in person and via delivery . The quality has decreased significantly. The last several times I have had poor quality fries and sloppy burgers. I ask for for fries no salt and well done. They come soggy and sometimes with salt. The mistake I made was asking after I placed the order if they could cook the fries so as to not be soggy because I forgot to say it at first. He said the order had not been made yet so no problem. The fries that I received were hard, greasy, and tasted like fish. I removed some items from the veggie burger because I don't eat dairy. I added relish and mustard. I got the veggie burger with relish and mustard but avocado that I asked that they put on the side was missing and the onion and salsa was not on the veggie burger. I called and was told I had to come back today to get the food remade. I explained I was home with two children and did not want to have to drive all the way back over there. I guess they were afraid I was lying so I asked for a manager. Someone got on who I don't believe was a manager and said that they understood, but I have to come back over today fora remake. The attitude was so condescending and uncaring. It made me feel very uncomfortable. I explained that one of the children was eating the hotdog. And this whole thing seems so complicated because the order should've been done right the first time. I said I would not be returning to the establishment and again the person on the phone said they understand. They didn't care about my repeat business. The upside is there are only a few places that I will eat at because of dietary restrictions. So this is saving me money. The downside is they don't care about repeat customers. Hopefully, they continue to treat all customers this way and go out of business. I don't want to feel that they only treat CERTAIN customers this way.

Best beef sandwich I've had in a while - it's legit! Great prices too for the M-F lunch specials

$20.50 for a small cheese fry taco chili cheese dog, which was messed up because they listen to simple instructions, chili cheese, dog only celery, salt, again this place is so overrated and overpriced. Don't waste your money. and again, why can't you offer Oscar Meyer wieners instead of all these hotdogs you were the only hotdog stand in the hotdog stand capital of the world that offered Oscar Meyer wieners this place is gone so downhill.

A southside staple! Janson's was pretty much exactly how I expected it to be. Walk in to order and then grab a table outside or eat in the car. Everyone else who was in there was ordering milkshakes, so I impulsively ordered a strawberry one. Wow. It must have been at least a decade since I've had a strawberry milkshake. It was rich, creamy, (nostalgic) and delicious! They don't skimp on the whip cream either. I also grabbed a chicago dog and fries. These didn't blow me away quite like the milkshake, but I still enjoyed both. I imagine if I lived in the area, I would visit Janson's pretty regularly due to how quick and efficient the staff it. Our order was ready in about 5 minutes despite the decent number of customers in the (tiny) shop. Overall, definitely recommend giving the milkshakes a try if you are in the neighborhood! It's another cute spot that is frozen in time and brings you back to the 60s.

If you want to take a trip back in time and enjoy some good food with a delicious milkshake, check this place out if you haven't already. I really enjoy the music they play as well. Great place on Western.

I absolutely love the salmon sandwich! So yummy. They have great fries and the brownies are delightful! Great fast food and staple restaurant in Evergreen Park!

Jansons is under rated for their ceasar salad. Romaine was healthy. Chicken was freshly grilled. Dressing was good and it came with a ton of cheese. No complaints!

This place looks real classic and I have heard great things. But it was really underwhelming. Chili was like greasy water. It had no flavor whatsoever. Yes they have Vienna dogs but who doesn't? I guess if you like fries totally submerged in artificial cheese though, this place doesn't skimp. Honestly the chili just ruined it for me.

They have good food. The burgers and onion rings are my favorite. The shakes are great.

Today my mother went into Jason's for a meal. She has been going to this establishment for the last 20 years. She had a question for the owner and he refused to come out and answer. The store was not crowed! The clerk came back and said "he will not come out to speak with you". Extremely disappointed and will NOT be going back...

Not much to say about Jansons. I came here to try their Italian beef. It was fairly priced, ordered my usually beef dipped with hot peppers. The beef had a good flavor, they definitely don't skimp you their peppers either. A very generous portion of giardiniera. The bread didn't hold up as I would have liked it to, but still not a big deal. My wife ordered their burgers and fries, but both weren't anything special. Overall I had higher expectations for Jansons. It just looked like a joint that would serve unforgettable food. At the end of the day, there are hundreds of these joints all over the city. Would I still come back? Most likely.

Shame on me for waiting till I had a complaint before reviewing this place; I've enjoyed it for years and thought I had rated it before. So bad news first: The onion rings. Don't bother. The darling girl said they're good but nope, guess I should have known better than to ask someone working there though they've steered me right before. They are frozen Ore-Idas, same as Burger King. Not even sure they're real onions since all the same size and shape. And $3.50 for like 8 of them. AND $.55 if you want any dipping sauce! Ridiculous. Just don't. Go to Popeyes or Portillos. I want my money back. Now the good news: THE SHAKES. Strawberry Banana. Skip the whipped cream; it's gilding the lily. Trust me. Best shakes in town. Next: PULLED PORK SANDWICH. I had no idea how good their Bbq is, but it's great. Tried the rib sandwich also; it's very good too but pulled pork edged it out. And it's huge! Comes with coke slaw on the side. Get it. Just get fries instead of onion rings. Glad Jansons is still around. Try it.

Like I previously stated it used to be good and now borderline sucks. Gold Coast prices for pretty much the burbs. The tiny cups of cheese for the cheese fry don't even last the full fry even if you are a little conservative with the cheese. Seriously though why would someone be conservative with the cheese...it's a CHEESE FRY" for god sakes. I understand you put in some money updating the place but come on.

They went and changed their tacos. Damn shame... New shells don't cut it, the use of salsa don't cut it; the update just don't cut it. No bother to explain myself, because only the true fans if the Jansen's taco will get where I'm coming from. The update fails; in order to appease foodies you ruined something unique and special to Jansen's.

UPDATE AND UPGRADE: finally after a couple of times they get the order right after saying "light sauce". Salmon sandwich is delicious. Third time I've been there. Two times I ordered the Salmon sandwich, easy on the sauce because I knew from the first time they put too much sauce on it. It's a good sandwich but unnecessarily way to heavy on the sauce. (See pic) You don't need all that sauce. It makes the sandwich soggy and not enjoyable. If I hold it in my hand to long I have sauce running down the side of my Since they can't seem to get the order right, I'll pass.

I don't know..... just wasn't what I was hoping for. Came in for the first time and went with the philly steak sandwich only to be very saddened by my experience. The steak portion wasn't too decent and it was dry/flavorless. I added ketchup to my sandwich hoping I could turn things around but no luck. The fries were ok though. Friendly service. Decent seating area.

The sockeye salmon sandwich is amazing! It's a bit pricey, especially since it doesn't come with fries, but it is really tasty. The shakes are also amazing and my husband loves their Italian beefs.

It looks like a really cute old retro spot when you pull up. I went inside and the worker who rang up my order was extremely helpful. It was my first time and I had no idea was Janson's drive in was popular for. There were many deals for certain days of the week. I went with the cheese fries and also a Philly cheesesteak. The cheese fries were probably some of the best cheese fries I had since I've moved to Chicago. The cheesesteak however was okay but it had a weird aftertaste. I may go back again and try. Overall the service was great, the employees were helpful and the fries were delicious.

Best family owned restaurant in town!!! I always get the chocolate banana shake whenever I go there. Their salads and burgers are perfect.

This place is a regular haunt for me when I want a quick sandwich and fries. They have always been quite consistent. On my visit today, found a new younger crew in the front of the store. The young man making the shakes was about 9 or 10 years old, dressed in the same Janson's garb as the rest of the crew. He began complaining about all that he was doing and hoisted himself onto the serving counter for a rest. When I made mention of the uncleanliness of this behavior one of the adults picked up the containers off the counter, wiped the counter, and replaced the same containers back. The young man returned to hoist himself again, this time corrected by the staff. Good, legal aged, staff must be getting harder to secure. This one needs additional training if he is to stay.

Jansons is a friendly place that has good food and a great atmosphere! Everything I've ordered thus far has been good and I have never had any problems when I have been there.

The service & the atmosphere was good, very friendly customer service. The smoothies weren't the best, VERY watery as soon as I received it ( I got the mango and wild berry ). The avocado burger I ordered wasn't good at all to me, it was very dry but my boyfriend liked his bacon cheeseburger. Not a complaint but just ppl know, the barbecue sauces aren't free, it's $1 per sauce.

Neat place. Went here often growing up. They were closed for a few years and pleased they reopened. Went with a chili cheese dog. Tasty and has poppy seed bun. Also with an Italian Beef not dipped because I was wearing a sweater I love. Got an Oreo shake that was absolutely scrumptious! Some seating outside and seating area in another room from where you order.

I ordered 2 cheeseburgers with everything and fries. I have NEVER tasted a hamburger that taste like a bad hotdog. I don't know what kinda meat is used for the burgers but it's not good at all. I have ordered burgers from here years ago and they didn't taste like this. UGH!!!! Never again I'm done

OMG - The salmon sandwich/salad are both to die for. Awesome taste. So delicious and worth every penny. 5 stars rating for the salmon duo.

Service was above and beyond! My job decided to cater Janson's for lunch today and they were quick and diligent. They even put each individuals name on a bag so that we knew who's was who's. Highly recommend this establishment!

Old time fast food surviving amongst a jungle of franchise eateries, got to appreciate relics like this. Hats off also to the nearby Rainbow Cone for surviving the influx. This was my first visit to Janson's and although not overly impressed I did enjoy the Pulled Pork Sandwich. I little pricier than I expected at $7.99 but it is a substantial sandwich, I could not finish it. I did not use it, but it was nice that extra sauce was included, loved the pickles which were a nice addition to the sandwich. The exceptional bun was also substantial, worked well at attempting to contain the massive amount of pulled pork. Nothing special about the french fried potatoes, however they were very good. Of course I had to order the notorious Banana Milkshake which was spectacular, get this. If I lived in the area I'm sure I would visit often, an extensive menu that I would love to explore. The chalkboards are cool as well as the building's vintage diner architecture.

SOLID If I only had one word to describe this place that is the one I would use. Anytime I go here there are usually cops eating (which is how you know it is good). Everything is good but I usually get a milkshake and/or the beef and cheddar on a croissant

I went in for a pick-up for Door Dash, completely disappointed. I have never been there before. I had no clue how their pick-up service worked. I was completely ignored first off...then I didn't know they gave your order separately. The young man working the counter was completely rude. Gave me one bag...then handed me another bag by a different part of the counter. So I thought that was it so I proceeded to leave...he come running out to me saying there was more! Well get it together and hand it to me all at once geez! And the attitude from this young man was completely uncalled for! Good food or NOT I wouldn't ever go in and eat due to the attitude given!

I live down the street from here and this is a go to spot. Always consistent. Food never disappoints. My favorite hot dog in the area.

I used to come here before COVID a few times and it was always great. Sadly I came In the other night and the service was horrible. The cashier was very rude and entitled. She was the only worker not wearing a hat and kept playing with her hair while passing out food without gloves. Food was good but those girls need some serious training. Talking rudely about customers and rolling their eye's while others are still in the building isn't a good look. Not much management or discipline. When I arrived home I was missing an entire burger and fry. I tried calling the restaurant back but nobody answered. Won't be returning anytime soon

Vanilla shake is absolutely delicious!!!!! I ordered a rg.chili, chili cheese fries, bacon burger, 2 shakes.....I will be back. Ps All their food is good if I could I would live in this place and EAT EAT EAT!!!!

The food was good, but the fresh banana shake was just as fantastic as when I was a child. It is still the best shake on the planet.

Always a great place. I usually get cheese dogs but the burgers and gyro is good too. The shakes are great. But due to lactose intolerance I haven't been able to enjoy this place as often. I also drive for Grubhub and this place is weird. It's the only restaurant I've seen that requires you to bring the delivery bag in the restaurant. I guess it's to prevent giving food to the wrong people, but paying attention better would solve that issue. I prefer to leave my bag in the car. Still, great food.

My first time here and I was VERY happy I tried it! I saw it on an episode of Chicago's Best and had to give it a go! The food was quick and reasonably priced. A small parking lot but, people were coming in and out so it flowed well. The staff were friendly as well! I will be back!

You know a place has to be good if there are tons of squad cars outside... yes/no/maybe? Happened across this place because it was open late had bright lights and said tacos. Sadly, they had 1 taco which was beef and deep fried.. Such a bummer, but I refocused on sammiches. I ended up with the grilled charbroiled chicken sammich with fries. This combo was the ultimate perfection! The chicken had the right taste of broil and juicy and those fries were hot and crisp! They are known for their milkshakes, which I need to go back for! The flavors looked unreal! I need to try my hand at those cheese fries too! As an aside, which I didn't know at the time, you can order any sammich and ask for beef, chicken, or portabello.. BONUS! A little expensive for a "quick" place, but good value and open late relative to surrounding places.

I have enjoyed Janson's as a Beverly resident for years. Their food was terrific, across the menu. Janson's became my go-to cheeseburger. That all changed on Friday. I went there about 4 pm after a gym visit. I ordered a cheeseburger, rare, as they package burgers in a styrofoam box, so it keeps cooking. The elderly nice attendant turned in my order, same as has happened dozens of times. A dark haired guy told her "no rare." I was perplexed and explained I always had the same order. I then shrugged and asked for medium rare. The same guy barked "no medium rare." Again perplexed and I thought of getting my money back and going elsewhere, but I had to be home for a Zoom business call so I plead them to leave it juicy. Two minutes later I was handed my bag of food. I went home, opened my food and bit into the burger. It was a dry hockey puck with no flavor. It hit me, The refusal to make my burger to order and the speed I got my burger means that jerk had someone take a pre-cooked burger, throw it on the griddle and melted some cheese on it. FOR 7 DOLLARS! My dog ate it, but she will eat anything. Do not go to Janson's for a burger unless your dog is hungry and you have 7 dollars to waste.

Jason's has always been a great place to stop and eat. Their shakes are especially good. However, the quality of their food has really taken a dive lately. The food really has not tasted very good, that is if they can even fill out the order correctly. In addition, the last shake I ordered had a banana that had barely been blended, so the shake was full of chunks of banana.

12/08/2019: Am revising my review with regards to their cheeseburgers. Something has gone wrong with the quality of this menu item. The most recent three times I have ordered one, the meat has had a weird, almost grainy texture with an unpleasant mouthfeel. I'm not going to order them anymore, which is a shame because it used to be one of the best cheeseburger options in the neighborhood.

This place is good.. definitely surprised me that's for sure! We stuck to basics.. Hot Dogs/ Polish/ Double Chesseburgers and they were all great. They use good ingredients and they dress everything the "Chicago Way".. no ketchup on the dogs here folks! Bright green relish on the dogs & polish to boot.. the only way to fly. They have a huge menu & the service is very good... decent dining room adjacent with clean bathrooms! Must stop in the Beverly area.. get dat did

I just had Janson's for the first time. I got a Capri-Chicken, fry, and large drink that totaled to 14.85. It was a little expensive for "fast food " which is why I gave it 4 stars but it was really good and the staff is very friendly. They helped me through the menu And was very patient with me. I would definitely go back and try something else. I do recommend trying this restaurant at least once.

They always give me ny order exactly right. I'm a regular here! One time they messed up with the soup a few weeks ago. It was horrible! Maybe I shouldn't have soup in summer -Lol...But I was sick! Hawei, you know me, I gotta tell the truth. But I still love you guys. Your favorite customer, Lee

I was hoping my dinner a few weeks ago was going to be good I saw the crowd there. Have not had rib tips in awhile so ordered from here. I did not care for them sauce was too spicy for my liking. I rarely eat fries but had a taste for them. The fries were covered by the tips and sauce and they looked like they would have been good fries if they were on the side. Was very disappointed with the tips they were more shredded than whole and cut very small. $18.00 for them was kind of high too.

I've been coming here since there reopening and have never really looked at the prices. The food is decent for a little greasy spoon with neighbor history due to the longevity in the area under the old owner. I have never really looked at our bill until tonight. My son ordered a BBQ bacon burger, fry and a shake. I decided to get a fry too. $18 and change!!!! The burger is almost $8!!!! I don't think a burger from Epic is that much!!! The New York Strip sandwich is $2 more......that odd for a burger that is not hand pressed from fresh meat. My thoughts, Jansens prices are consumer driven based on analytics from what the average customer orders and inflating the price . I really enjoyed the idea that the new owners "wanted to breathe new life" into this establishment founded in 1960. This is straight from their website! This will be our last time at Jansen's. I don't see the loyalty to this restaurant's legacy or the customers they serve.
