"Jarana is right next to the Aventura Mall, but thankfully you don’t have to step foot inside to eat at this Peruvian restaurant. They make very good versions of classics like chicken causa and chaufa topped with a runny shrimp omelet. But they also have a few good Nikkei dishes like crisp tuna wantacos (basically taco shells made of wantons). The portions are filling, but order the picarones with sweet fig syrup no matter how full you are. The colorful restaurant has a giant abstract mural made out of chains and enough beautiful textile patterns to make you forget there’s a Hot Topic filled with angsty teens just a short walk away." - mariana trabanino, ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"This Aventura newcomer, part of celebrated Chef Gastón Acurio’s portfolio, will be celebrating its first Thanksgiving Peruvian-style. Featuring a special ‘Giving Back’ Thanksgiving menu (available through Nov. 30), the prix-fixe experience donates a portion of proceeds to the Pachacútec Culinary Institute, a cooking school in Peru founded by Acurio for underprivileged students. Highlights include pastel de choclo y carne—an aji amarillo and Peruvian corn cake filled with beef; piernita de pavo horneada y locro, a turkey leg marinated in Peruvian spices with squash stew; and pumpkin tres leches. Price: $50 per person." - Alona Martinez
"Jarana is technically in the Aventura Mall, but thankfully you don’t have to step foot inside to eat here. It’s the sister restaurant of La Mar, but a lot more casual than its sibling. "Renowned chef Gaston Acurio, best known for La Mar Miami and numerous establishments across South and North America, has introduced Jarana. The restaurant features modern Peruvian cuisine and a pisco bar, offering classics like ceviches, Nikkei dishes, and entrees such as lomo saltado. The menu ranges from small bites to large shared dishes, including a 32oz bone-in cowboy steak and whole-fried snapper with sweet and spicy Nikkei sauce, all served in a bright, colorful, lively, family-friendly atmosphere." - Eater Staff
