Where to Eat and Drink Near the Kennedy Center | Eater DC

"Located inside the Melrose Hotel, Jardenea’s menu follows the farm-to-table model of sourcing and seasonal cooking. Expect a series of meats, seafood, and vegetable dishes, from shareable appetizers to center-plate entrees. That’s all in addition to a lengthy wine list and carefully crafted cocktails, including a stiff barrel-aged Manhattan. A pre-theater menu is offered from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the lounge area features its own snack and drink specials." - Travis Mitchell

Google
The service was nice. Didn't know the restaurant existed until I saw 2 people sitting at the table.. my fault for not doing proper research. Both bartenders were great each night. I went to the bar. I enjoyed the double shots of greygoose and cranberry alongside the yummy lambchops(cooked medium) pureed sweet potatoes and vegetables everything cooked to absolute perfection. For breakfast, I had the crab egg Benedict. The manager Carlos was an awesome down to earth host going to each customer, making sure everyone was fine . He was pleasant to talk to. I have been to several restaurants in D.C., probably the first time I was personally greeted by the manager . Thanks for the pleasant memories..

The food and drinks were pretty good. Most portions are a bit small. Sides are separate. For the price I would’ve liked a bit more. I left a little hungry. Maybe people go for the experience. I don’t know. The servers were nice. The food came quickly. Drinks took a while but the bartender was a bit busy.

I had a very pleasant experience here. I stumbled in the Melrose because of the heavy rainfall and there was a beautiful and well organized bar calling out to me. I couldn’t help but take a seat at the counter and order an Old Fashioned while watching the US Open semifinals. The amazing bartender served me the most delicious Old Fashioned beverage I have ever had. To top things off, she used a classical large ice cube so that it would not overwater the drink down. She meticulously prepped the garnish and even gently burned a star anise spice to elevate the flavours. Last but not least, she included this delicious alcoholic cherry that gave this Old Fashioned drink a 3 dimensional experience. I highly recommend this bar and bartender!

Service was great! Momo was a very attentive server and was super accommodating. The seasonal soup— leek and potato soup was superb! The food was also very affordable compared to other restaurants in Georgetown

Google
Food looked/sounded good on the menu. The ambiance was good; it wasn’t truly like a 4 star restaurant though. The service was awful. 2 tables got serviced before us and we sat for around 10 minutes before getting any attention. I guess we didn’t fit the “profile” of this place. We left and went to Circa and had a blast instead

Google
Places like this is why restaurants within hotels have a bad rep. Also I didn’t listen to my own advice if a place is empty there is good reason why. subpar food. I did the restaurant week menu: squash soup was the highlight, smooth, flavorful and comforting. Cod was ok, needed more seasoning. Forgettable. Spiced cake had chocolate sauce and mixed berries. I didn’t think the sauce and berries belonged. Cake was like blah. Great service though - thanks Omar Scammed out of $85

Google
This review is for Jardenea Lounge. There is no Happy Hour. We didn't actually eat here, but came in for the Happy Hour that was advertised on the webpage. They have a new chef and new staff and the prices are pretty high for standard drinks and bites. The chef did mention they are working on putting something together, but there is no Happy Hour as indicated on several online sources. The lounge area is pretty small and again, this review does not reflect the food or the restaurant.

Yelp
Wonderful little restaurant in at The Melrose near the Kennedy Center in DC! This restaurant is super quiet, small but intimate they have a nice menu that has some delicious options for you and the family! We all went with chicken and potatoes! The meal came out quickly and was just beautiful with the nice sauce around the chicken that was just delicious! You will love to come try this restaurant when you're in the DC area!

Yelp
Two meals - two diverse experiences in terms of food quality and taste. The risotto I tried at dinner was near to perfect as was the wine. Their breakfast the following morning was a case of more quantity than quality - the egg dish was too dry and salty and did not seem to have been freshly prepared.

Yelp
The food was excellent. Definitely try the Creme Brule it was fantastic. The restaurant is in the Melrose hotel. It will be on the right as you enter the hotel, a bit hard to see.

Yelp
Service was great. Our waiter was exceptional. Salad was delicious, but that's where it ended. Menu was quite a bit different than posted on website. Steaks were over cooked and lamb was so so. All was overpriced.

Yelp
Giving this a very tepid 4 because service was excellent and coffee just right (plus a whole pot left on the table for me :). The ambiance was also very nice, perfect spot for a meeting or to take your time over a meal. The breakfast was very meh - my business colleague and I both ordered the avocado toast. Cold toast with thick slices of avocado (not mashed), some tomato and a room temp poached/ over easy egg atop, with a drizzle of balsamic something - I like balsamic, but it kind of ruined the whole dish. Especially on cold toast. It was a very generous portion, two big slices with above mentioned ingredients. I ate the eggs and some of the avocado and tomatoes and called it a morning. This dish got rave reviews from others and maybe it was an off day for chef, or I'm used to a different style of avocado toast being from CA. Again, kudos for service and I had a lovely stay at the Melrose.

Yelp
I don't want to give this place a bad review because the service was excellent. The servers were attentive and kind and they deserve a lot of good credit. We went here for breakfast because we were staying at the hotel and wanted to give it a chance. The food was very basic but incredibly overpriced. I'm still in shock at how expensive it was for a very simple meal of toast, yogurt, bacon, and oatmeal.

Yelp
Tried this place on my birthday. Started with an excellent salad. It was pretty much downhill after that. I ordered the lamb medium well. It came back overcooked on outside and raw on the inside. They took it back and brought it fully overcooked and I couldn't eat it. The guy offered me a free fruit drink which was cool, however it would have been more appropriate to remove the lamb from my bill. That part of my birthday was not good. Oh well, making another year is a blessing.

Yelp
We enjoyed our breakfast at Jardenea. But more than the food was the service. We felt cared for as we were facing some of the most difficult times in our lives. Our granddaughter was here being treated for a very serious illness, PANDAS, and the employees of the hotel as well as this restaurant went out of their way to comfort us. I will never forget it! I look forward to the day when we can return to enjoy Georgetown and all it has to offer. For now, this hotel was our welcome mat to the city. Thank you!

Yelp
We arrived at the Melrose Georgetown Hotel later than we anticipated, and we had tickets for something that started in less than 90 minutes. We spoke to Concierge to see if they had any recommendations for a bite to eat and they suggested Jardena because it was located right in the hotel. They were so accommodating... they even had a ride waiting for us as soon as we were done eating. After we explained to our waiter that we were in a bit of a hurry, he was quick in getting everything out to us and his service was impeccable. The bread they served was very good, with three different options for spreading/dipping and the meals were top notch as well. Very flavorful & yummy!! We were so glad that we ate here. On our next visit to DC, we will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Staying at this hotel and didn't want to go find a restaurant in the hurricane. We got all of the happy hour items. Brussel sprouts were amazing! Chicken wings were good too. I also really loves the orzo lobster Mac and cheese, but it's just orzo.... no noodles. Definitely not the same as Mac and cheese but surprisingly good. Less filling. I was still hungry after sharing all of this so I ordered the bay crab soup. My server also brought me these amazing cheesy rolls without me even asking. It was soooooooooo good! I'm from CA and have a high expectation for seafood. This was amazing. I practically licked the bowl. The rolls were to die for. The pomegranate martini was equally amazing. Not too sweet, which I love. I told friends in the area to pop in for happy hour ($7) drinks and food and that soup!!!!!! Great service too.

Yelp
I had a nice meal here with a few friends. Food was tasty and the service was excellent -- share the rack of wild boar and the snapper (a bit tough) with one of our party with each of us getting the prix fixe 3-course meal which somewhat offset the otherwise elevated price point for meal. The arugula and goat cheese salad was tasty, and we all shared in the two desserts that came with -- chocolate lava cake and creme brulee. That we were allowed to get five separate checks was also a plus. There were only a few diners present, but the fact that it was quiet enough that conversation was easy, and we did not have to shout to hear each other, was also a huge plus.

Yelp
Had a work lunch today and very mixed reviews. Soft shell crab appetizer is delicious. Two small crispy soft shell crabs with wilted spinach. I would NOT recommend getting the lobster rolls. They are drenched in mayo to the point I couldn't taste any lobster. The homemade chips were very tasty. There are 3 small sliders and 2 of us ordered it and everyone tried a little, all 6 sliders were picked at but not eaten. They should remove this item from the menu. The service was just so-so. We had a group of 9 people and we were constantly looking for a server for something.

Yelp
For various reasons, we decided to do thanksgiving out this year versus at home. That was actually tough because so many restaurants were closed for thanksgiving. I ran across this place and was pleasantly surprised that for a restaurant inside a hotel, it was farm to table with great options for everyone in the family. (We were eight, with some vegetarians, some gluten free, some vegan, some didn't care) For thanksgiving they had a traditional turkey plate, but we all ordered off their special menu for the day. I had the crab bisque and the lemon risotto. Others had the salmon, crab cakes, sea bass, and pork tenderloins. So we pretty much covered everything on the menu. The bisque was a little salty, but everyone seemed to enjoy everything on the menu. The staff was attentive (we made reservations, but when we got there we seated ourselves as there does not seem to be a host to receive and sit you) and very nice. They had some very nice cocktails as well. All in all I would say this is a worthwhile place and given that they were open on thanksgiving deserves some credit. I am not sure that this was the A team cooking or serving, given the day, so will need to go back to see how different it is on a regular day. BTW - the hotel was not too shabby.

Yelp
Let me revise my review; after three separate meals, I initially wasn't impressed with the food. I found it to be lacking, however, Patrick Knott, Executive Sous Chef, made a sincere effort to demonstrate culinary excellence. Knott updated a menu offering to fit my taste by preparing a crusted sole and sunflower seed risotto. The sole was expertly seasoned and cooked perfectly. The risotto was balanced and savoury--a contemporary comfort food. I'm thoroughly impressed with Knott's superior service, client interaction, and deep culinary interest; these characteristics combined with his humble demeanour ultimately transformed a negative dining impression into a positive and memorable dining experience. Because of Chef Knott, I look forward to dining here during my future visits to DC.

Yelp
What a fantastic and comfortable dining experience! We were staying in the hotel and has heard good things about the restaurant but had not tried it! One evening, we had retired to our room early for a nap and woke for a late dinner. We went downstairs and found the staff to be delightfully friendly and accommodating! We were seated immediately and offered an array of appetizers from which we selected the Chilled Peach Soup! What a deliciously refreshing soup for such a hot day. For our entrée, we both selected the Hawaiian Sea Bass. It was light with just the right amount of sweet flavor for a hot summers evening. Enjoy!

Yelp
Located inside Melrose Hotel, Jardenea is a well hidden farm-to-table restaurant that is both comfortable and modern at the same time. I was looking for a restaurant that I had not tried before, was within walking distance of the Foggy Bottom metro, and quiet enough where I could talk with my companions and Jardenea definitely fit the bill. Thank you to all of the Yelpers whose rave reviews led me here. As soon as I sat down, our server stopped by with a basket of bread. When the third diner sat down, she stopped by with even more bread. Finally! A restaurant who understands that carbs is the way to a guest's house. The lunch menu is pretty basic: flat breads, salads, sandwiches and pasta. I opted for the un-diet friendly wild salmon with fettucine. The size portion was perfect, the sauce was creamy and fresh, and the fried capers added a great texture. In fact, I am going to start requesting fried capers on EVERYTHING from now on. I never was a fan of regular capers, but this was heaven. My dining partner got the spiced ahi tuna served with grilled pineapple, lettuce and Macademia nuts. The presentation was spectacular but it came out a little bit overcooked. For lunch, it was a pretty solid if not a little bit boring. I'd love to come back for their full dinner menu where they have more exciting options. Also, worker bees: check out their 5,5,5 happy hour with $5 drinks, appetizers, and $5 off dinner entrees.

Yelp
Pretty decent restaurant for lunch, but by no means a brunch place. A fellow Yelpie friend and I visited for Sunday lunch and were hoping to have brunch / breakfast options as well, but were only given the lunch menu, which had disappointingly fewer options than most other restaurants. The restaurant is a bit hard to find at first. It's located in the Melrose Hotel in Foggy Bottom and there aren't many signs pointing to the restaurant, but if you walk past the tables on the right side when you first walk in, you'll find this hidden restaurant. The vibe was somewhat classy and was spacious. But it was confusing because there were no signs or a hostess stand or anything. We walked in and a waitress seated us. Service was decent and they filled our waters a lot, but they didn't really indicate whether the sandwiches we ordered would come with fries (and the menu didn't indicate that either). It would have been nice to be able to ask to substitute for a side salad instead of fries. Also, our food took quite a while to be ready. 25 minutes for two sandwiches when they didn't have many other customers. They didn't even bring out complimentary bread or anything else. I ordered the Grilled Free Range Chicken Club sandwich (toasted ciabatta, ripe avocado, Applewood bacon, and chipotle mayonnaise). My sandwich automatically came with fries, which were actually quite delicious. The sandwich was filling and tasty, but not extraordinary. My friend ordered the Roasted Turkey Breast Panini (rosemary focaccia, cranberry aioli, baby brie cheese, and hydro bibb lettuce). She said it was filling but she couldn't find where the cranberry aioli was in her sandwich. Overall, decent place, but not a restaurant I'd be wanting to visit too often. Service was slightly off and the food wasn't extremely impressive.

Yelp
We came here because it was near our Kennedy Center show. We we're disappointed when we saw it was in a Hotel. We were overly impressed with the decor, the food and incredible service. Our server Derek was charming, helpful and kowledgeble. We couldn't hope for a better experience. A pure 5 stars. Wife had the best sole she ever had. I had a very nice lamb with unbelievably good cous cous. Warm beat soup and fois gras were superb as well. Great mixed drinks too.

Yelp
3.5 stars (4 stars if only rating the food) Service The service was pretty good, but I felt like our server kept trying to push us to order more... Maybe it was his tone? Maybe it just seemed like he was being really persistent? I don't know. Location/Atmosphere And the location was not great--literally the lobby of the Melrose. We felt the cold draft from the lobby door all night. And for some reason, even though it was almost empty (there probably was no need for us to make a reservation), it was super loud. Either a) all the people that ate there are obnoxious or b) the acoustics were just really bad. I mean, in the middle of our meal there was a huge group of men in business suits chattering loudly as they passed us... And finally the bathroom was all the way outside into the hotel lobby and downstairs. Kinda awkward. The Food Their raisin bread came warm and delicious. Mmm was hard not to eat the basket of them Cherry Glen Farms Goat Cheese Salad with Shaved Beets and Baby Arugula, Marcona Almonds (I declined the Orange Blossom Honey Vinaigrette) - pretty good. The arugula wasn't bitter at all, the beets were cooked just right, and I loved the refreshing presentation (I feel like it's almost always cubed). In this dish they were sliced with the creamy (not too strong) goat cheese smashed between slices. And I love Marcona almonds, which was a great addition to the dish. Pistachio crusted Atlantic Salmon with Braised endive and roasted brussel sprouts - pistachio crusted anything. Gimme gimme gimme!! So... I actually am allergic to orange so I asked for a swap out of the sauce, and I wasn't a huge fan of the onion base that it came on. The salmon was really good though, as were the brussel sprouts and tomatoes. Chef's choice: Chocolate torte-very rich, but pretty delicious. Loved loved loved the hazelnuts. And the creme and chocolate 'wafer' (it was all chocolate) set it all off. I might come back for the food--one of the few restaurant week places where I actually had trouble deciding what I wanted! But honestly, the location isn't great, and the environment itself isn't conducive to a classy sit-down meal at this price... Definitely tell me when the chef goes somewhere else!!
google avatar

Yelp
Started with butternup squash bisque...not great. Kinda watery and really lacked flavor. The salmon was delicious though. The sauce that they used as light and creamy, salmon was cooked perfectly and the potatoes and veggies made the dish pretty filling. Service was okay and the ambience was average which drives this to a 3-star spot. Good solid choice though if you're in the area.

Yelp
Three friends and I made our way to Jardenea for Restaurant Week, for which Jardenea offered an unusually diverse menu (unlike some places that only offer their lowest-cost items or provide a mere 2-3 options per course). On a Saturday at lunch time, only two other tables were occupied--the place was nearly empty. It's strange that the restaurant has no clear front entrance; when you walk into the Melrose Hotel, you are greeted by a small lounge area that leads back to the front desk. To your right, through a lounge area, is an open...breezeway...with no sign or marking that Jardenea is there. After a bit of shuffling, we located the awkwardly invisible entrance and were seated. As an appetizer, I ordered the Autumn Artisan Mixed Greens Salad, which was nicely done and presented. The toasted black walnuts added just the right amount of crunch, and the milled apple cider vinaigrette was a refreshing spin on a typical dressing. My companions ordered the Jumbo Blue Crab Cake, which they all raved about. Entree time! I followed my salad up with the beef sliders, which both my friend (who also ordered them) and I found far too dry. The beef had been overcooked, but it was not tough. I do have to give kudos to the fries, which were just excellent. Another friend ordered the Grilled Chicken Range Chicken Club (odd dish name), which benefited from a good dose of avocado and not the measly drop of avocado that many restaurants offer. When dessert time had arrived, the waitress brought over three dark chocolate cake slices--although none of us had ordered them. Being an unusual mix of non-chocolate lovers, and being under the impression that there were at least two options, we inquired whether another option was available. The waitress returned shortly and offered a hazelnut cake as an alternative, to which everyone readily agreed. This was my first encounter with a hazelnut cake, and I was definitely pleased. Notwithstanding the thin layers of chocolate (purely personal preference), it was a decadent-but-not-too-rich dessert that was a fine finish to the meal. On the service front, the waiter and waitress, who came in sort of a tag team, were responsive when they could be found. Altogether, we had a very pleasant experience at Jardenea. The place would do well to somehow mark its entrance so as not to send patrons calling on the front desk, but does a solid job of bringing nice spins on everyday dishes.

Yelp
Vegetarian perspective. Excellent location in Foggy bottom and easy to secure reservations for a larger group. Staff were excellent, doting, and accommodating since our group had a small baby/high chair needs. The food was really excellent, a few veggie options here and there but the ones they had were great! I opted for the summer greens salad which was an AMAZING volume (see pic) with mediocre dressing. They did not have the fiddleheads that night (sad face) but instead I ordered a cheese plate ($4 per cheese, $12 total) for my main and it was so generous in serving and excellent quality cheese! I only could eat 1/3 of it and the rest my table scarfed down. The bread (a key part of how I judge a restaurant) was all around amazing! We requested more and they put a loaf fresh in the oven for us, and it came out steaming and delicious. An all around really lovely night dining. The only drawback is that the restaurant is eerily empty, which is a downer for ambiance though all the decor is nice! I have no idea why since all the reviews are so great and we had a really nice experience. Yelpers- get your bums there!

Yelp
I picked Jardenea for breakfast with three busy friends this morning specifically because of its location, its menu and its offering of a tasty waffle too. One of my guests had a special preference I hoped to offer. The food was actually quite good, and felt the choice was solid. However, I was sorely disappointed by the very poor service. Given we were dining at a hotel with business visitors and others, it stands to reason that we did not have the luxury to idle over our meal. We had significant difficulty getting seated at a near empty restaurant, and to keeping our waiter's attention was near impossible. I wandered all the way to the kitchen at one time to find a living soul to help us. When served waffles, I also immediately requested our waiter to provide butter with them too. I gave up after 15 minutes and simply ate the waffle without butter, and of course he then showed up with our request. We were flummoxed by the poor and inattentive service. There was simply no desire to offer prompt, courteous and appropriate service.

Yelp
Absolutely great place to have excellent food, excellent service and conduct business meetings. Special thank you to Derek for being an excellent job of taking care of us. Try the goat cheese and beets salad and the lamb shank, or just have the shank as it is huge and delicious. We will be back.

Yelp
We decided to dine at Jardenea for a pre-theater meal prior to a performance of Hamilton at the Kennedy Center. We'd already been to some of the other restaurants in that area for the same reason (Marcel's, Dish + Drinks, Blue Duck Tavern) and thought something new was in order. First, going into the Melrose Hotel, it is not completely obvious where the restaurant is. You have to turn right immediately after coming in the doors and there is no noticeable host station to go to. Nonetheless, we were greeted immediately and brought to sit down in a nice two person table along the wall inside. It was a touch hot outside, but there was some outdoor seating as well that we could have chose. We got the prix fixe theater menu, which was a three course meal from special selections on the menu. For our first course, my wife had the cream of crab soup, which was delicious with a few lump crab hush puppies in the center of the bowl. I had the crab cake which came on a bed of apple cider braised collard greens. I cannot begin to tell you how delicious the collard greens were, and I'm absolutely going to try to make some at home. For the main course, my wife had cherry wood smoked duck which was served on two huge onion and thyme pancakes. I had the filet mignon, which came with white truffle Dauphinoise potatoes and haricot verts. Both entrees were ridiculously good, and given the large first course, we were stuffed by the end. But not too stuffed to eat our desserts, a lava cake for her and caramel creme brulee for me. With the dinner, I also had an espresso martini, which surprisingly had enough caffeine to get me through the show. Best part: this whole meal set us back $44 a person, which given the area and the quality of food was an absolute steal. If you have time to do a pre-theater meal, or happen to be staying at the hotel, do not miss this incredible restaurant.

Yelp
I had no idea what to expect at this restaurant, as it's in a hotel and it was recommended by a friend. Less than 24 hours later, I'm going over this meal in my mind and I am still in absolute awe. Everything about this meal was fantastic. My date ordered the Brussels sprouts, and I'm thinking, no way, I hate Brussels sprouts. These were absolutely out of this world! They were fried to perfection, crispy, with goat cheese (I believe) in the middle, incredible! We had the sea bass and the filet mignon, and we both split it, and they were both mind blowing. The sea bass melted in my mouth, and the filet was perfect. The best was saved for last, dark chocolate lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream. It was absolutely decadent. Also the waiter was fantastic, a super cool guy from the Netherlands. I can't wait to go back to this restaurant, it's now at the top of my list for places to eat in DC!

Maybe they were having an off night, but this is how my meal came out : charred. The salad course was tasty.

Yelp
This past Saturday we were determined to visit a few of the hotel bars bookmarked on Yelp. Started off at the Park Hyatt and made our way here. We literally ran into the Melrose hotel to escape the rain and try out the different libations. I loved the friendly greeting of "welcome back!" by the doormen. They had a fun menu with drinks ranging from a Moscow mule to a My Monkey (just fun to say the name). We also ordered the naan hummus appetizer which was interesting-- it was blended vegetables instead of blended garbanzos. They ran out of seats inside the dining area and so we were sat in the lounge area- which was fine by us. Loved the clean, modern look to the hotel and if in the area, I would definitely check it out for their drinks and apps.

Yelp
My husband and I went during DC Restaurant Week and dinner was beyond my expectations. We did have some trouble finding it originally because the restaurant entrance was not well marked. But we had a great meal and our waiter was really attentive. We both got mixed drinks, that was ok. I could take it or leave it. For the food though, I would definitely return. I got a soft shell crab appetizer and a steak for my main. My husband got crab bisque, steak and we split a chocolate cake dessert. Not going to lie the appetizers were too salty. My husband agrees that someone went too heavy on the salt. But our main entrees (steaks with brussel sprouts and truffle mashed potatoes) was so good. The steak was cooked exactly at the temperature we ordered with delicious flavor throughout and with a light char. The sides were also equally delightful. We were both really happy with our food. Also the portions were huge, hence why I didn't end up getting dessert.

Yelp
Surprisingly great! We went for a Sunday dinner, and the place was essentially empty. Not to worry, just meant we got great service! Pros: - Food was delicious, barring one exception. - Theater Prix Fix is a good deal- 44 dollars for a three course meal. - Bread was excellent - Lobster BLT salad was very good - Smoked duck w/savory pancake entree was excellent! Cons - A la carte menu seems a bit overpriced, and prix fix options are only about 66% of the full menu. - Sole stuffed with lobster was not good at all- texture was way off. Avoid! Context matters, here. All in all, I'd say this is a perfect theater dinner spot, and it's an excellent spot if you have a group with some picky eaters- most of the food is well-crafted but "normal." (Man, there is no way to say that without sounding snobby). Just... don't get the sole.

Yelp
I went here for dinner during DC Restaurant Week in August, and it was simply fantastic, one of the best meals I've had in ages. It is located in the Melrose Georgetown Hotel, a short walk away from Foggy Bottom Metro. The hotel lobby is gorgeous very modern, but not cold. They have excellent happy hour deals, and their signature cocktails are definitely worth stopping in for (and for $5, they are one of the best kept secrets around). Most places during RW offer new dishes not normally on their menu to offset the cost, but Jardenea offered the same dishes as what was on their normal menu, which I appreciate because I get to sample what their normal fare is, not what they created specifically for RW. I ordered an amazing appetizer of chilled peach soup that had a cinnamon cream with a slice of peach that had been bruleed. It was a bit sweet for a starter, but really good, and creative, I don't think you'd find this dish anywhere else in DC. For my main course, I had a seared duck breast with a savory fig & rosemary bread pudding, which, if I am honest I ordered for the bread pudding and it did not disappoint. The duck was so tender, and perfectly cooked, its probably some of the best duck I've ever had. I highly suggest this restaurant and I will definitely be returning for their full price menu.

Yelp
I went for lunch at Jardenea and did not have any expectations before going there. I was just hungry and in the area. I was seated immediately since there was not much of a crowd yet, at around 11:30 am. The server was very pleasant and attentive. The ambiance of the place and decor were interesting, though the music was a tad bit loud for me. I ordered crab bisque and pork belly. Both of them were excellent, and I should say that the pork belly was the best I ever had. They were a bit pricy, but not super fancy kinda expensive, I remember paying around $10 for the bisque and $14 for the pork. I came out feeling satisfied with the quality of the food and the service and I was so glad that I stumbled upon this gem.

Yelp
I was only here for happy hour but if the appetizers and drinks are any indication of the quality of the food, call me impressed. I came here on a Friday during cherry blossoms so it was more crowded than usual with tourists/stuffy older types and the bartender got a little flustered but it still was a nice experience. The happy hour is served at the bar on the left of the hotel entrance- unmarked. The happy hour is mon-fri, 5-7pm with $5 drinks, $5 soups and appetizers, and $5 off entrees. This is definitely one of the nicer happy hour deals I've seen from a fancier restaurant. I ordered the tamarind margarita, asparagus bisque, and potato wedges with bacon and blue cheese. My friend ordered the pomegranate martini and Maryland-style chicken wings that came with ranch. Everything we ordered I would get again. The portions weren't large but they weren't small either, just right. The potato wedges were perfectly crispy and the toppings were delicious. The chicken wings were probably the best wings I've had in the DC area thus far, perfectly moist and tender, with a homemade-tasting ranch. The soup was creamy but light and refreshing. And the drinks were handcrafted- normally the types that would cost $15 at a nice bar. I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Jardenea is located in the Melrose Georgetown Hotel, off of Pennsylvania Avenue. The restaurant takes pride in offering a menu using ingredients from sustainable farms, fisheries, foragers, and artisans, maintaining a good relationship with local farms. A breakfast/lunch/dinner/lounge/dessert menus are offered, and a group of us came here to try out their dinner options. I really liked how they broke down the menu, labeling each plates as being 'Kettle to Table,' 'Garden to Table,' 'Sea to Table,' etc. We ordered: Kettle Seared Duroc Pork Belly (Chapel's creamery bue cheese, date puree, baby arugula, and aged balsamic glaze; the pork belly had the right amount of fat, making it juicy and flavorful, and the date puree and the balsamic glaze gave it a nice sweet note); Cherry Glen Farms Goat Cheese Salad (shaved beets, baby arugula, marcona almonds, and dressed in an orange blossom honey vinaigrette; I love orange blossom, so having this to dress the greens made it nice and refreshing); Maine Lobster Pappardelle (fresh English peas, cipollini onions, roasted fennel, blistered tomato and tarragon; while the lobster chunks were fresh, the tarragon seemed to be slightly overpowering); Citrus Brined Duroc Pork Chop (roasted garnet yams, cipollini puree, wilted mustard greens, and a pomegranate demi; the pork was a medium well, but make sure you request the specific temperature you would like - I personally like my meats cooked all the way through, especially pork and poultry!); and, the Grass Fed Filet of Beef (with white truffle dauphinoise potatoes, haricot vert beans, and a shallot demi-glaze; I love haricot vert, and these had a nice little snap; the white truffle potatoes were decadent and would be pleasing for any truffle lover). For dessert, we shared a Caramel Creme Brulee (topped with fresh berries) and a Chocolate Mousse Profiteroles (with crusted candied pecans and bitter caramel - this just made it a sweet tooth-satisfying ending to the meal). I liked the hotel interior, as it was modern and chic, with tufted sofas, glossy flooring, and a quiet vibe. +located inside the Melrose +reservations accepted +farm-to-table-oriented menus

Yelp
Meh... not impressed is my takeaway from Jardenea. I was excited to try Jardenea and had picked it off a long list of other restaurants that a fellow Yelper and I were deciding between to go to on a Sunday morning. This restaurant is located within the Melrose Hotel when you walk in and it is to the right. There is no signage and we actually had to wait in line at the check-in desk to ask where the restaurant was. Part of the restaurant looks like it is just couches in the lobby, but then as you walk in a little further, there is another section that is slightly partitioned off. Note they do not have brunch! When we arrived the server asked us whether we wanted the breakfast or lunch menu. We said both, however when we sat down and started looking over the menu, we were only given the lunch menu. When I asked for the breakfast menu, she came back a few minutes later and told me that there would only be one thing I could order off the breakfast menu. I wasn't interested in that particular dish, so I ended up ordering off the lunch menu. We had already placed our orders when the woman who first showed us to our table came over to take our order. That pretty much sums up the service we experienced at this restaurant, which was not accommodating and very disjointed and the restaurant was practically empty. There weren't a lot of options on the menu, so I settled on the Roasted Turkey Breast Pannini. It's sad when the fries are the best part of the meal! The fries were very tasty and the sandwich was all right, but it mainly just tasted like turkey with brie. I was unsure whether they had even put the cranberry aioli on my sandwich. In the end, the disjointed service and just ok food made me wish we had picked somewhere else off our list!

Yelp
The Melrose Hotel has done a beautiful job of renovating and creating a delicious farm-to-table restaurant. My review is of the preview dinner, so some items may vary from the current menu. Starters: - Fruit and nut salad with pomegranate dressing was a really good mixture of textures and favors. I really like the pepitas, cranberries, cherries, sultanas and spiced walnuts. Every mouthful was chock full of nuts (and fruit!). (Note to self: if making this at home add some goat or blue cheese, just my opinion) - Blue Crab Bisque was good and had a nice kick to it. I generally wouldn't order soup but this had nice flavor and warms the heart on a cold night. Mains: - Most DC restaurants have rockfish on the menu. What I liked about this dish were the blue corn grits. - Cast Iron Seared 1855 Filet of Beef with white truffle pommes dauphine. I haven't taken French since high school but what's not to love about fried mashed potatoes, and mixing it with choux makes it awesome. Dessert: Pumpkin Creme Brule - As a creme brule it was perfect but as a pumpkin creme brule it was a little disappointing because the pumpkin was at the bottom and not mixed. It was a good finish to the menu though.

Yelp
Phenomenal!! Had a salad and crab bisque and both were miles above my expectations. A nice glass of Sauvignon blanc and I'm good to go. Did I mention their bread is also delicious? And my waiter was absolutely delightful.

Yelp
The restaurant is in the front of the Melrose Hotel. When you enter go immediately to your right toward the dining tables. The mood was quiet and classy and the staff was attentive. We went for breakfast with our two boys. The menu was great. Traditional breakfast favorites with some add IBS to make a little more special. Kids had pancakes and waffles. Perfect. I had eggs Benedict with salmon. It was done very well with home fries like potato chips. My wife had an omelette to order. Food came out in good time and seemed fresh. All in all the food was great and just what we were looking for, for our first day in the city. Only downside is price. For the four of us it was a hundred bucks with tip. Won't be doing that every day but we did expect it to be expensive for being in DC and in a hotel. So I was not surprised.

Yelp
I subtracted one star due to ambiance. While the restaurant decor looked great, I could barely hear my bf speaking from across the table because they were having this huge company happy hour in the bar area. After an hour, most of the people had left and then we could finally hear that there was music playing in the restaurant! The food was impressive. I had the pappardelle carbonara (not exactly the name but basically) which was phenomenal. Probably the creamiest (and most caloric...) pasta dish I've ever had. But so good! My boyfriend had the cider marinated pork, which was also delicious but not quite as delicious as mine. We shared the ice cream trio, which was great. Cocktails were very alcoholic. Too strong for me. And I chose the one that sounded the sweetest and least alcoholic... Pretty expensive but worth it. I would consider it again for a celebratory dinner of some kind.

Yelp
While staying at The Melrose hotel I decided to take advantage of eating at lobby bar that is part of the restaurant. And I must say I am very pleased with the food, and while everyone around me t small plates I decided to satisfy my burger craving ... the burger was simple, but very good. All was very fresh, and tasted like a back yard bbq burger. Didn't love the fries but maybe for the better... saved some calories and got a glass of red wine.

Yelp
#84 DELICIOUS! Located in the Melrose Hotel off the Foggy Bottom metro, a friend and I decided to have our Pre-Thanksgiving dinner here as the reviews we're selling us. You know how you have those hotels that have restaurants that people (even if they're not staying there), JUST go to? Or is that just in Vegas? And then you just have those restaurants that you go to because you're a customer at the hotel? Well, this seemed like one of those hotels that you generally go to because you're a customer at the hotel. We got surprising looks that we decided to have dinner there even if we weren't staying there. The restaurant was fairly empty (though it was fairly early for dinner 6PM) but did start to trickle in customers later in the night. So now given that premise, THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! HATS OFF TO THE CHEF! I'm glad we landed ourselves our Thanksgiving dinner here. What I ordered: - Seabass - cooked to perfection and left my mouth watering. - Crab Bisque- not too thick but definitely not watery and was SO GOOD. - The Smores dessert was actually just okay. Not bad but I personally didn't love it. I prefer the real thing. Not quite sure what it was that didn't make me rave about it. I would totally recommend this place if you're staying at the hotel or even just walking by and looking for something within a quarter mile radius!;p

Yelp
Made reservations for dinner before heading to see a show at nearby Kennedy center. The restaurant is tucked away into the hotel and hard to find. Menu is simple and leaves a bit to be desired. Service is painfully slow. So slow we couldn't finish our dinner because we were going to miss our show. Just imagine waiting 20 minutes to order drinks (we ended up ordering drinks and our meals at the same time). We would have easily had another round of drinks if the servers ever came around. When my steak finally arrived the plate was burning hot (an indication that it was been sitting in the window for a good while) and the steak has been more medium than the medium rare I ordered (probably due to sitting under a lamp). With that said, the food was tasty and on par with expectations. It's the lousy, slow servers that ruined this place.

Yelp
A hidden gem? We were having a terrible time finding a highly rated place for dinner, we were on foot and calling ahead to restaurants all along the way back to our hotel. When we called Jardenea, they said they would have a table waiting and they did! Waiter was extra helpful running to the bar to inquire whether they stocked or could make our fave drink. I am gluten free and they brought out a basket of very edible gluten free bread, a nice, rare touch! I ordered the Brussels sprouts as my main- excellent and my man ordered the scallops an reports that they were perfectly done. Dessert was warmed Frangelico. We would come back and we would recommend!

Yelp
Breakfast at Jardenea was perfection. From the service to the food. Omelet with spinach, bacon, tomato and Swiss was delish. We even ordered again the following day. The blueberry pancakes are the best we have ever had...forgot to get a picture...however, they were the freshest blueberries. Alem and Maria were attentive and courteous. We can't wait to come back.

Yelp
This was easily the best restaurant experience I have had in DC yet. Everything about it was perfect... the food, the ambiance, and especially the service. Moreover, the portions are huge and the prices reasonable. They start off your meal with two complimentary breads, a standard white one and a unique and lovely raisin one. Definitely have some of the raisin bread but make sure to save room for dessert because the chocolate lava cake is fantastically delightful. I ordered the Bell and Evans BBQ Chicken Roulade and everything about it was awesome. The presentation was beautiful, the chicken couldn't have been softer, and the stuffing, combined with a piece of chicken, mac & cheese and bbq sauce couldn't have made for a better bite. The service though is what really put the place over the top. We had the nicest and most passionate waiter. You truly felt like he cared wholeheartedly about your experience. And the way in which he described each entree was so in-depth and appetizing that it was hard too resist ordering everything he recommended. I can't imagine someone not enjoying dinner at Jardenea...

Yelp
Lots of hits and misses when we ate here. First off it's in a hotel and there's no sign saying where the restaurant is. But once you're inside you forget you're in a hotel. The food was either excellent or mediocre. I ordered the chicken and biscuits and it was very tasty. The biscuits were stuffed in the middle of the chicken medallions; it sounds weird but it was delicious. The salmon wasn't very good but the duck was also very good. The grits served with the scallops were a little different but the scallops themselves were great. The wine menu was good according to my friends, the beer selection was abysmal, and the 8 oz Coke I ordered was $4.50. That's not a joke. The waiter did present it like a nice fine wine which didn't make sense until I saw the check. Lastly the bottle was room temperature. I know that's a lot of complaining but there was a lot to complain about in that sense. I just didn't understand why they don't use the bar across the way in the hotel. The service was good and the ambiance was okay. It's also pretty quiet even on a weekend for dinner so it's good for groups. Heard it was a new-ish restaurant so they will have to go through some growing pains. They should also edit the menu as the font changes throughout and there are some spacing issues with it. I'd come back if I got a raise and were in the area again.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the lobby of a beautiful hotel! We came here for lunch specifically because of the Yelp reviews. I am learning that some of y'all have no idea what you're talking about! The food was extremely overpriced. It was ok and I did enjoy my meal But the prices had me checking my bank account! The atmosphere is quite frou-frou which really isn't my taste. But if it's yours and you don't mind spending money on location, this is the place for you. I won't be returning.
