Jareun Krung Review - Lincoln Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The key descriptor for this casual neighborhood spot in Lincoln Park is industrial-chic—it's all blonde wood, hanging plants, and basket lights. But the best word for their Thai food is underwhelming. Spring rolls are innocuous while salty chicken wings taste mostly of oil. Pork belly pieces are so small and over-fried they may as well be bacon bits. Other items, like the watery, too-sweet green curry, or the flavorless drunken noodles made with spaghetti and more oil, keep the disappointments coming. But, the panang curry and fruit-forward mocktails are decent enough, and at least the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service live up to the “good vibes only” sign on the wall. Jareun Krung shouldn't be your first pick in the area—backup plan only." - Veda Kilaru

Great service! Cute new restaurant! Great authentic spicy thai food! Loved the spicy crab thai curry, the flank strak pad sew and duck bao bun

The ambience in here is great, very warm and cozy. Menu items are very creative and the flavors were delicious. The drinks were a little too sweet for my liking. While all our dishes were great I would highly recommend the duck curry (has a little kick to it) and shrimp salad.

Charoen Krung by Sathon Thai is a gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm ambiance and a sense of authenticity. The menu is thoughtfully crafted, featuring dishes that beautifully balance traditional Thai flavors with a modern twist. Each dish we tried was flavorful, and expertly presented. The Pad Thai was perfectly seasoned, and the Tom Yum fried rice had just the right amount of kick! The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure every part of our dining experience was enjoyable. If you’re looking for an authentic Thai experience, Charoen Krung is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Charoen Krung By Sathorn is a standout Thai restaurant that gives traditional cuisine a luxurious twist. Each dish creatively combines classic and modern Thai flavors, creating a unique experience. The presentation is detailed and artistic while still keeping true Thai flavors. The food tasted amazing, and the beautiful presentation added to the enjoyment. I’ll definitely be back—it’s a new standard for modern Thai dining.

Had a great time here. Service food and atmosphere were all good Went for late lunch and had the Duck Slider for starters, River Prawn Pad Thai, mixed vegetables and Khao Soi for mains, and the Coconut Ice cream for dessert. The duck sliders were good, only critique I have is that they shouldn't put sauce underneath the bun. Both mains and dessert were excellent. I also had the Lychee Bliss which tasted like canned lychee syrup (👎). Luckily I had the bright idea to order soda water and make something worthy out of it.

Google
Surprised and delighted by this special little spot! We stumbled across this restaurant after the wait was too long at our first choice. I'm so glad we did! Dinner here was lovely. The environment was incredibly cute and cozy and romantic, but classy. The food was excellent. I had a crab curry that was incredibly well priced for the value, size, and quality. Truly so delicious. We also tried a couple of other dishes that were excellent, and the cocktails were creative and thoughtful. The house old fashioned was really excellent. Across every menu item, flavor was incredible. I'll definitely be back for dinner with friends or another date night.

The attention to detail is a gentle flavored dance that supports the natural notes the main part of each dish. Service was excellent as well.

Yelp
This is an awesome place, though I wasn't sure it would be when we arrived. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, but it took forever to take our drink order and even longer for us to receive our drinks. They eventually were served, but two of us received ours first and then the other two members of our party had to wait another 10 minutes or so. We were there almost 40 minutes before everyone finally had a cocktail. Mine was very good (the Kinnaree), but unfortunately it was kind of on the warm side by the time I got to enjoy it due to the extended serving process. I didn't have high hopes after the cocktail fiasco, but after that service was much improved and the food was EPIC! Our table shared a bunch of Thai tapas and two entrees. Every single thing I tasted was great: no duds! Some highlights for me were the spicy pork bites, chicken satay, jeeb-koong, and crab cake, but everything was fantastic. We enjoyed some wine with dinner and actually ordered seconds of several tapas for dessert as we loved it so much. I would definitely go back here in spite of the drink issue: just be prepared to wait if the place is busy.

Yelp
Food was overall quite good, ambiance was nice although it was pretty loud and it wasn't full, big vegetarian menu and the drinks were interesting and delicious! Pad Thai tofu was really good! The flavor was correct and the noodles weren't dry. Eggplant salad was a little bland, we asked for it less spicy and it was completely mild. The ratio of eggplant to cucumber was so low, should have been called cucumber salad. Liked the dill! Red curry tofu we asked for same level of spicy as the salad and I would calll it medium level. It was curry with tofu and a couple pieces of cooked pineapple, wish there were so other veggies and no pineapple. Flavor of curry was good! Service was good though we needed to ask for water twice bc it was never refilled

Yelp
Stop by for a quick snack and drink on a Friday afternoon. It was quiet at that time of day but they had great happy hour specials. Many $7 cocktails and wine options. We also tried the Thai Coffee which was great. Egg rolls came with a great presentation and tasted great. Service was quick with it not being too busy.

Yelp
Ridiculously tasty and outstandingly cute! I loved this restaurant which is always a joy when you just stumble across a place and it turns out to be excellent. The food was so flavorful and fresh and quality. The crab curry specifically was so special and unique. While this place is a little more expensive than many Thai restaurants, it's super worth it. This food is very elevated and the vibe and environment is lovely. Perfect for a date night or friends night out. Cozy, cute, romantic, not cheesy at all. Service was friendly and attentive and we didn't feel rushed. Seriously such a delightful surprise and perfect for a cold Chicago night where a cozy curry is the perfect fit.

Yelp
An underrated gem in the city! The setting is intimate and the servers are friendly and attentive. We tried the duck curry and beef khao soi (coconut curry egg noodles) - both were delicious with the right amount of spice. The meats were tender and flavorful. Their menu has lots of specialty dishes, would love to go back and try more. Probably my favorite Thai place in Chicago so far. It's a more upscale place, around $30-40 per person.

Yelp
This new gem just opened in 2024, and after one visit, it quickly became a go-to spot for me. The experience here is absolutely delightful--from the beautifully presented, flavorful food to the attentive (but never overbearing) service, everything about this place feels thoughtfully done. The drinks? Fun and delicious. The atmosphere? Perfect for a girls' night, date night, or just treating yourself to amazing Thai food. We started with the Organic Crispy Taro, and WOW--light, crispy, and paired perfectly with their house special peanut sauce. It was the kind of appetizer that gets everyone at the table immediately excited for the meal ahead. For mains, I was beyond satisfied with: Khao Soi - A Northern Thai specialty, this aromatic coconut curry noodle soup is packed with layers of flavor. The egg noodles, crispy toppings, and perfectly balanced broth make it comfort food at its finest. Kapow Tofu & Mushroom - A must-try for vegetarians! The fried tofu and mushrooms are perfectly stir-fried with Thai basil, garlic, bell pepper, and chili, giving it just the right amount of heat. Pad Thai Tofu - Classic, flavorful, and everything you want from a well-executed Pad Thai--tamarind sauce, crispy tofu, crunchy peanuts, and fresh bean sprouts. Red Curry Tofu - Their homemade red curry paste makes all the difference. Creamy, bold, and served with just the right mix of veggies and tofu. I love when a new spot instantly becomes a favorite, and Charoen Krung by Sathorn nailed it. I can't wait to keep going back! If you love Thai food, put this on your must-visit list ASAP.

Yelp
Fantastic new addition to the Depaul/Lincoln Park area. The menu is concise and filled with authentic Thai cuisine. I'd (strongly) recommend the prawn pad thai and the basil beef. The vibe is definitely more upscale so this is a fantastic spot for date night or bringing some people visiting the city. I'd say prepare to spend around $40-$45 per person and a bit more if you want a cocktail/beer. Make sure to ask your server for cocktail suggestions, they have amazing options! For beer enjoyers, they have a classic Thai beer that is perfect to sip on! We will definitely be back for the "Grand Opening" in a couple weeks :-)

Yelp
Okay, but seriously--this place is a gem. I popped in on a whim and was not expecting to be blown away like this. The vibe is super chic but still cozy, with a really cool mix of modern and Thai-inspired decor. It just feels like a spot you'd want to settle into for a great meal and drinks. Speaking of drinks--both cocktails I had were so good. Like, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and just exactly what you want in a solid cocktail. Definitely not an afterthought here. And the duck bao sliders?? Phenomenal. The duck was tender, the bao was soft and pillowy, and the flavors just hit. Plus, they looked gorgeous--like, almost too pretty to eat (but obviously, I did). Honestly, this was such an unexpected find, and I'm already planning to go back and try more. If you're into upscale Thai food and killer cocktails, this spot is 100% worth checking out.

Yelp
We recently tried Charoen Krung by Sathorn for a date night. Everything we ordered was good, it just was too expensive for what it was.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Charoen Krung by Sathorn! The food was very tasty, although a bit expensive for the portion size. The staff was friendly and very attentive, however it was fairly empty inside which was odd. The place itself is very cute! Overall it was a good experience. We ordered three appetizers, two entrees, and a bottle of wine to split among three people and it ended up being about $200.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Ive been twice and it was amazing food and drinks both times. I can't wait to go back! The service is really good also!

Yelp
We've eaten here a few times, and it's been a delightful experience every time. Upscale, delicious Thai food, served with a smile. They have some great signature cocktails too. #AroiMaak
