As a native Texan who knows the 100+ differences between Mexican food and Tex-Mex …. I’ve found a legit Tex-Mex. Where to start? Unlimited chips and salsa that’s not greasy and salsa is fresh (it would be incredible if heated - I will ask them to microwave it for me next time.) 😇 The queso (white) is exactly how it’s supposed to be. Same with the cheese and onion enchiladas. Perfect. Refried beans. Perfect. The waitstaff is also Texan so the hospitality is exactly as you’d expect expect (no offense New Yorkers). Purposeful energy and happily serving their guests. Relaxed fun vibe with good music. I will be back often. 🎉

Me and my wife had an amazing afternoon at Javelina. It was Nat’l Margarita Day, so my wife made us reservations for us. Sitting with Kayla at the bar, and chatting with Micah while we ate and drank- they truly made us feel like family. I had carnitas tacos while my wife had the beef- both were delicious. Rice and Beans were correct- if you know what I mean. Washed that down with a prickly pear frozen margarita and some super fresh Modelo’s… Man, I bet my Saturday was better than yours… :)

I was walking by when this place caught my eye. The server was exceptionally kind and welcoming, which I especially appreciated as a deaf customer. I decided to try the steak quesadilla, having read favorable reviews, and it was just as good as advertised. The frozen margaritas were strong but delicious. This spot is definitely a great choice for brunch or a fun girls' outing.

Ordered tacos. It doesn’t say how many of them. Lady on the phone asked me if I want 2 or 3, I said 3… and she didn’t tell me the total. I came and she told me 27 for three tacos. I thought they will taste really great. Basic cheap tacos. For 28$. Don’t recommend the place at all. It wasn’t that good and overpriced

I really enjoyed my time everytime I step.in the environment. I highly recommend their happy hour weekly specials. Their queso and wings appetizer. Fajita entrée and brisket tacos! The owner and wait staff are the sweetest and I would definitely recommend!

Really Cute Tex Mex Spot! Popped in on impulse Tuesday 11/05/23! The food was good, I just expect a bit of spice somewhere in my meals from any restaurant that considers themselves to be Mexican cuisine or Mexican cuisine inspired. But the food was great, and tasty. What it may have lacked in spices, it definitely made up in taste. The bartender was nice, since I sat at the bar. Atmosphere was calm and social/chatty. Definitely will be back, and I was definitely satisfied.

Cozy spot on the UES! The Bob Armstrong queso was DELICIOUS. I was thinking about it for days after. I got the brisket taco and it came with jalapeño gravy which was really great but wasn't spicy at all. I want to try the sizzling platters next time, as the table overs smelled amazing.

Came here for dinner the other day and this place was fantastic. We had a really great experience with the tippler. The margaritas were phenomenal! This place also had the best enchiladas mole. Definitely 5 stars! Our steak and chicken fajitas were delicious and the chicken avocado soup had that homemade feel to it. But most of all our waiter Wyatt was an extremely helpful with all our questions and was always there if we needed anything! Definitely ask for him.

came here for a Monday night for happy hour (4-6pm). Solid service, complimentary salsa and chips, no wait. food came out quickly but I'd skip the fried cauliflower. My friend ordered the taquitos and red wine and she enjoyed it. My margaritas were nicely flavored and strong. (Mondays is mango!)

Saw reviews saying this place had the best queso in NYC. Being from Texas, I was suspicious but had to try it out. Honestly, the queso wasn't that great. I ordered the Queso Sampler. Here's my ranking of the quesos: 1) The Bob Armstrong (traditional), 2) the Traditional queso, 3) the White queso, and 4) the Habenero Queso. I wish they'd stick to one queso and make it very good vs. having so many options. The flour tortillas were good, and the chips and salsa are okay. I came back a separate time and ordered the Enchiladas de Tejas (cheese enchiladas). While it wasn't quite authentic Tex-Mex (especially the red chili gravy/chili con carne), they had a good flavor and hit the spot. The Mexican rice and refried beans could be better, but they tasted okay. All in all it's not amazing Tex-Mex, but if you're craving it, it'll hit the spot.

I am a frequent flyer at Javelina on the Upper East Side. I most recently visited this past Saturday along with 3 friends. We were delighted to have Micah as our server. She had previously only been at the bar whenever we had come in but we were always aware of her warm and welcoming energy. She was knowledgeable of the menu items (both food and drink) she even told us to come back for the Friday night steakhouse taco special. We were so grateful for the delicious food, good vibes and even better service. We had an amazing brunch! Thank you so much. We will definitely be back. Also, the queso was fantastic. I don't know if maybe they are known for their food but definitely not their drinks. I went for happy hour and only had the their wings and frozen margaritas. I also had a drink that they mix with sangria and margarita. The wings were okay. However, the margaritas tasted so bad I couldn't even drink it. I am a margarita kind of person so I was so disappointed. The drinks tasted like frozen cough syrup. The kind they forced you to drink as a kid when you were sick and you would hold your nose to try and not taste it. I asked the waitress to take them both back. Like I said maybe they are known for their food because the aroma of the food being served smelled delicious but get your drinks elsewhere.

When they say best queso in the city, they mean it! Some people we met at a bar close by actually suggested we come here when we said we were going to grab some food. We started with drinks, cava for my friend and I got a frozen prickly pear margarita with a floater. Funnily enough my waiter forgot my floater but someone else heard me joking about it with him and just brought me a shot that I poured into the drink. The margarita was delicious! With and without the floater haha. I would honestly come back for these alone. We shared the Queso Sampler; it came with a traditional queso, white queso, fried jalapeño queso and a larger bowl of Bob Armstrong queso. The obvious favorite was the bob armstrong, with the ground beef and some added guacamole we were in love. The white queso was my second favorite, absolutely delicious. Personally, I'm not a Smokey jalapeño fan so I would probably pass on that next time but people who like jalapeño will love this. Chips came out fresh and warm, were perfectly thin, but not thin enough to break in the queso. Can't wait to come back!

I have yet to try the food at Javelina (minus the gigantic bowl of complementary chips and salsa) but the drinks and service were absolutely fantastic. I went to the UES location to grab a drink at the bar and the bartender was very accommodating as to what type of mojito to get and whatnot (there's too many options what can I say). I went for the frozen mango mojito and it was really good. I also had another drink (forgot the name) but it was fruity and spicy, ie simply perfect. I will definitely be back for dinner!

This place was highly recommended by a travel nurse I met in Texas so I was excited to try it! When I arrived, the gracious host said the kitchen was closed even though the hours listed were until 10. We arrived shortly before 9 on a weekend night. He said he was sorry the hours were listed incorrectly and explained that they couldn't stay open late due to labor costs. He gave us a card for free queso next time we come back. I was disappointed but I returned with my family (we are from Texas). I arrived on Sunday after 3. When I came in, the place was pretty empty and the hostess was chatting with colleagues and had phone in hand and earbuds on as she greeted me. Fine, it's dead, I get it, no big deal. I was happy she could seat me even tho my family had not arrived yet. I asked my waiter for coffee and he said he would check if they had any. He came back and said he had cold coffee from earlier and would I like that. I said no thanks! And his response was "we are not making more coffee right now". Okay... I ordered a specialty queso and waited for my fam. We all ate and drank more. We had no complaints except that the fajitas only came with 4 tortillas even though it was a shared item. We finished our food and I hear a busser ask the manager if she wants a coffee. Then, she walks by our table with a fresh cup of hot coffee. Ok I'm leaving anyway so I run over to give my waiter the free queso card and he tells me he can't take it because it's only for a plain queso not the specialty one I ordered. I ask if he can just discount the queso and the manager, sipping on a tasty coffee, says no. I left the coupon on the table and we all agreed that we would not be coming back. What a disappointment

One of the best interactions I have had with the staff at a restaurant in a long time. I originally just came here to use my Autumn Tippler (Book to Redeem drinks all over the city), but just loved the vibe here. I sampled the queso that was not that spicy honestly and loved it. The drink was fantastic, prickly Pear Margarita with out the salt. Next time, I need to come back to try the true frozen version of this drink.

Got take away last night from here. Our food was actually cold, when I got it home. We had to heat in a the microwave. I ordered it online and went immediately there, and a waiter said it would be a few minutes. I waited about 15 more minutes and a waiter came out of the kitchen with food to go, so I asked if mine was there and he looked and said no. He went in the back and came back with it. I think it had been sitting there for a while. The food shouldn't have been as cold as it was. We received no chips or salsa. The food was okay not great. We won,t be back.

This is a great Tex Mex spot in the neighborhood. I really like to start with one of their quesos. The habanero and white quesos are my favorites. Their guac is also really good and made fresh. They let you choose the spice level, and I always go with the spicy. I can't come here without ordering a margarita. The frozen ones are delicious and actually quite potent. I usually order tacos here. I get 3 because if you order 3, you get rice and beans on the side. My favorites are the shrimp, crispy fish, and chicken. They come on flour tortillas which they make on site and taste very fresh. I've also had the mole enchiladas which are delicious. I love that they have a few tables out front. I always sit outside so I can bring my dog. There's an exciting new deal they have on Tuesdays for taco Tuesdays. If you buy 3 tacos you get a free frozen margarita. I will continue to frequent this place.

Was craving Mexican and headed to Javelinas. To drink we had a Diet Coke and unsweetened iced tea. For dinner we shared the Queso Sampler, Elotes (cut off the cobb), and chicken and shrimp fajitas. Patty was our server and she was energetic, attentive and overall had a great vibe! Our meal was delicious and the portions were generous. If you're in the UES looking for Mexican cuisine, head to Javelinas, they do not disappoint!

It's not a trip to NYC without stopping into Javelina for their awesome food and service. There is something about the place maybe it's the vintage Bob Ross videos playing over the bar instead of the mindless barrage of sports other places assault you with or maybe it's the smiling staff that does everything they can to make sure your meal is fantastic and trust it always is; I mean they take the time to roast their own tomatoes for their homemade salsa that's hands down my favorite in the city and I know because I asked Michael the GM if they ordered it from somewhere or actually prepared it fresh. I foolishly thought something that good came from a can that I could just order for myself at home. We love you Javelina and will be back soon, keep those chips warm for us. Hahaha.

Ordered deliver- nachos, veggie enchiladas, and fish tacos. Wow!!! Unbelievable flavors! My Mrs and I were impressed with the veggie enchiladas with mexican rice and black beans. The green enchilada sauce was so good and the veggies were perfectly cooked Al dente! The fish tacos were perfectly seasoned in a light batter and the corn tortillas were so airy. The undressed shredded cabbage was the perfect crunch and complement to the mango salsa that topped the tacos. As for the nachos- layers of tortilla, refries beans and cheese topped with sour cream, guac and salsa. Absolutely delicious. Our containers were practically licked clean! Looking forward to my next order.

The food and margaritas were good! Our server was very kind, but unfortunately the experience was ruined by the manager. My friend booked for 4 people not knowing we had 5. We were already seated and I told the manager that we were sorry for the mistake but we needed another chair. He rolled his eyes at me and said no. I asked if we could wait for another table and he said no. So I said then we need to leave. He then rolled his eyes and said I'll look for another chair- there were plenty. I went to my table and said the manager does not want to add another chair. He came up behind me and said she's wrong-- I'm looking for a chair. I advise the owners to hire one of their servers as the manager or at least teach the manager how to speak to customers.

Stay away unless you like being berated by a manager for asking simple questions. I live in the neighborhood and have been here a few times. There's nothing special about the food or drinks but my 74 year old mom and I stopped in around 6:15 on a Friday for the happy hour, not realizing it had ended at 6, not 7. We decided to stay anyway and ordered a glass of wine and a vodka soda. The vodka soda had zero carbonation, it looked like flat water, so we asked the waiter for a redo. He brought it and it was still flat, so I flagged the manager and said "I'm so sorry but this vodka soda is flat" and before I could say anything else he said "We opened a NEW bottle for you so I will go get it" and I said "that's not necessary" because she just wanted to switch to wine to make life easier anyway. He stomped away then came back and poured more water into her drink (that she didn't ask him to do) and then slammed the open mineral water bottle on the table and said "it's only flat now because it's open." I said "that's not how carbonation works if you just opened it... and mineral water isn't soda water or seltzer." He rolled his eyes and stormed off so we decided to just finish our drinks and leave quietly. I had asked for the check and it was sitting on our table, and I was discussing the weird experience with my mom, and I tapped the bottle of water he had left to show that there were no bubbles. I didn't even realize he was nearby, watching us, and this apparently incensed him because he stormed over again, picked up our check, and said "Your check has been taken care of, you can leave." So we did, happily, and won't be returning.

As a native Texas now living in NYC, this feels a bit like home. My go-to order is the chicken enchiladas. The tomatillo sauce is tangy, with a hint of heat. And the jalapeño rice is delicious. I would, however, stay away from the brisket. This isn't a BBQ spot, so the brisket is often too chewy. But this applies to Tex Mex in Texas as well; There are your BBQ spots and your Tex Mex spots, never combined. Lastly, the staff are super friendly. Got caught during a sudden thunderstorm and rode it out here, sipping on my drink waiting for the weather to clear.

I lovvvve Javelina! I'm also a huge queso girl so this place is right up my alley. The margaritas are so good and pack a punch most of the time. I usually get the mad dog queso orrr white queso with beef and black beans (I forgot the name on the menu, but it's delicious). Native Texan living in the Upper East Side, I have been trying to find Tex-Mex food for about a year. Tried Javelina today and can say this is some of the best food I've had! The Bob Armstrong Queso, the Tacos, the Fajitas, the Salsa.., nothing disappointed! The manager Michael and bartender Micah were so attentive and pleasant. Just an overall awesome experience, and it felt like "home." We will be regulars!

And on top of that a drunk trio of super entitled horrible women trying to look like they're in their 20s were cussing and acting inappropriately and one of them fell over her chair and they tried to chew out the restaurant staff! Michael handled this with so much professionalism and courtesy, it was truly breathtaking. I was getting worked up just as a bystander and he just *handled it*. Kudos! Made a reservation for five, but when we arrived they had messed up. Said they could only give us a table for four (even though they realized and admitted we made a rez for five). They sat us at a tiny four top and told us there was nothing else they could do. This even though there was a two-top right behind us that could have been combined to make our table suitable. We were told they needed this table for yet to materialize reservations. (That didn't show). Not sure I've ever been so faulted for a problem that the other party created. Really unfortunate start that was then met with not so great service and serviceable, at best, food. No reason to return to this place.

Had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful afternoon on the outdoor patio. Patty was our server and was INCREDIBLE- attentive without being annoying, and helpful in every way. The host Michael was engaging and welcoming, and truly made us feel like the most important people in the establishment. The food (tacos and queso sampler) was prepared to perfection, came out quickly, and exceeded expectations. And the drinks....wish we could have tried them all. Had a friend visiting and decided to bring her here for a casual dinner! This ended up being the longest dinner I've ever had in the city, nice because I was catching up with a friend but not typical for a Monday night. The staff was attentive and nice but I think they just needed more people to be working. We got drinks and guac to start and it was everything you would expect. For my main I got the fish tacos (when you get 3 tacos you also get rice and beans) and my friend got the steak fajitas. I think I would return for the happy hour deal but overall still a good place if you're in the mood for Mexican.

I truly believe the energy you put out is what you will receive especially when dining out in New York City. I want to highlight an amazing place that has a great atmosphere and superb customer service "Javelina" From the moment I walked in and was greeted. I had no plans to stay, but after being greeted and briefly meeting "Micah" the amazing bartender I had to have a seat and enjoy myself. To be in the company of good people is priceless. I could tell "Micah" is genuinely like this on a regular basis & It was refreshing. She had no idea that it was the anniversary of my Mothers passing. When I walked into Javelina it felt like I wasn't in New York City anymore. From what I saw the employees were happy to be at work and the staff was pleasant. I shared this with the manager because things start at the top and usually trickle down to the bottom. I can tell he plays a positive role in how the good things get done at Javelina. So, although I don't live close, and don't eat meat I will be taking the time out to come and visit you again soon. Whoever read this review, if you are in the area, stop in and say hello to Micah she's the BEST!!!

I would have rather had Taco Bell. This is some of the blandest, most overpriced tex-mex food I had. I tried the white queso, guacamole, chicken taquitos and chicken enchiladas. I'm someone who always takes home her leftovers, but I did not for this place. For reference, I'm Hispanic so I've had enough good tex-mex food, and I feel this place caters the food a little too much to the area. Anyway, after we left, my friend and I were left feeling sick and needed to find a bathroom quick. The biggest disappointment was the white chocolate tres leches - it was just normal tres leches with a few white chocolate shavings. It also wasn't moist enough. Shout-out to Patti, who was an extremely sweet waitress. She was the only good thing about this place.

I went here on a solo mama of 2 trip. I was blown away at the service from the start! The service staff welcomed me in from the rain with my stroller. Served chips, kids cup and coloring page. The enchiladas were really good, but the quesos were subpar at best. It was kinda disappointing because the reviews raved about the queso. But that was a breath of fresh air compared to the margs. They were horrible. There was way too much tequila, it was like trying to sip on a shot. It was so bad that after a few minutes you could see the tequila separate from the marg mix. So gross. Overall, wouldn't come back, but it wasn't the worst.

Stopped by here on a Friday night with some coworkers and although we didn't have a reservation we were lucky enough to get a table! My husband and I started with the guacamole and also got the tacos al pastor. The guacamole was alright, I ordered it spicy but it seems the pepper they chopped up was only at the bottom so the guacamole didn't taste spicy until we were almost done with it. The tacos al pastor we're actually quite good, served on flour tortillas which is why I knocked out one star (typically I prefer handmade corn tortillas) but the pork was really well seasoned and the rice and beans it was served with were very yummy. My friend got the vegetarian avocado tacos which were huge and good as well. One of my friends was a little upset they didn't have a lot of tequila options such as Don Julio but the servers were very friendly and overall we had a good time.
