"Texas Links at Jax BBQ: It seemed there was disappointment around every corner when I visited barbecue newcomer Jax, located behind the Port Authority in Hell’s Kitchen. Served with what tasted like bottled blue cheese dressing, the item called Texas links turned out to be plain old Italian pork sausage instead of the real Texas hot links I’d hoped for, or even the more common beef links of Central Texas. As a former Dallasite who depended on hot links for my high school lunches, it was an emotional disappointment in addition to a culinary one. They didn’t even taste like smoke. Management must have figured that no real Texan would ever wander into the place. The ribs and pulled pork — smothered in a sickly sweet barbecue sauce — were equally off." - Robert Sietsema

"Jax B-B-Q is a new barbecue restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC, offering smoked meats cooked on-site using white oak, cherry, and birch woods. The menu includes Memphis-style ribs, smoked meat specials, Southern-inspired starters, and desserts. The restaurant also features a bar with retro chrome stools and an extensive list of tequilas." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

In my opinion this place should be renamed Jax BBQ and Burgers. There are more burger options to choose from versus BBQ. The brisket sandwich and coleslaw were good along with the service, but there are a lot of things that need to be added or changed. I ordered a side of waffle fries and the fries were regular fries (will admit they were good), there was no BBQ sauces on the table or to order from, the Bourbon options were limited and the music was too loud. Hopefully this place figures it out because it's always great to see a restaurant succeed.

A friendly staff and a lovely decor. Tasted food, excellent bbq thanks to their own smoker. I have been disappointed by the size of the portions... but delighted however (well cooked meat, excellent French fries). Great value.

The brisket was excellent. Cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce. Same goes for the pulled pork. Loved the mac and cheese. The menu has lots of burger vs the bbq selection so I'll be returning to sample some burgers.

Pulled pork, turkey burger, mac n cheese and yams were tasty, brisket was ok. The wings tasted smoked and in the dimm light looked disgusting burned. The "baked" beans tasted more like under cooked bean soup with bacon chunks. Sides were small and lacking in ... how about some corn bread or buscuits? Cute hole in the wall, great music, very friendly staff. Prices were great for city prices. Beer selection was meh ok.

Lunched with a friend. I had the pulled pork sandwich (topped with good coleslaw and pickles). The pulled pork was chunky and delicious, the best I've had in NYC and I've been here a long time. Had a side order of excellent fries, too. Friend had a bowl of chili with sour cream on the side. and gave it a big thumbs up. Nice, casual place that looks like its been there forever. (Our waitperson said its been open two months.) Friendly, excellent service. We'll be back.

Food tasted really good, but everything was surprisingly saucy, even the "dry rub". Portions were also small. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered pulled pork and brisket platters. French fries were amazing. Meats we're well cooked, fatty bits melted away. Overall I enjoyed the experience, I just felt the portion size was a little small for the value.

The food was amazing. Whoever the chef is knows good eating. The decorum meets the expectations for the food. The owner and his wonderful staff are very friendly and thoughtful. They almost make you feel as if your eating at home but instead of eating alone you have the best company and if you drink the Best frozen margeritas ever. Your Local neighborhood food critique. It truly is hard for me to say someplace has amazing food but I had no problem saying it tonight.
