The 10 Best Cheesesteaks In Philly, Ranked - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Jaxx Steaks in Dickinson Narrows offers something most spots on this list don't: a place where you can sit back with a few beers, eat a cheesesteak, and stare at some Philly-themed chalk art. While they do have a few steak options here, including one that’s topped with broccoli rabe like a roast pork hybrid, the regular steak is the best. That’s because of how toasty the bread gets, and the way the blend of onions and super thinly sliced beef complements gooey provolone or American." - candis mclean, alison kessler

The 14 Best Roast Pork Sandwiches In Philadelphia - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"At Jaxx Steaks in Dickinson Narrows, every sandwich is solid, especially those on their soft Italian rolls. But it’s the roast pork that we could consume in 20 seconds or less if you timed us. Here’s the deal: tender cuts of pork, bits of sharp provolone sprinkled all over, and a cup of oniony broth to drench the entire sandwich. It’s gorgeous." - candis mclean

Jaxx Steaks - Review - Dickinson Narrows - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"This Dickinson Narrows spot offers you something not every sandwich spot on this list does: a place where you can sit back, eat a cheesesteak, have a few drinks, and stare at some Philly-themed chalk art on its walls. While they do have a few steak options here, including one that’s topped with broccoli rabe like it’s a roast pork hybrid, the regular steak is still the best. That’s because of how toasty the bread gets, the way the blend of onions, cheese, and super thinly-sliced beef becomes a true showcase of gooey cheddar. Since they have plenty of local beers in bottles and on tap, it’s like they know the best duo–outside of water ice on a sunny day–is an ice-cold beer and a cheesesteak." - Candis R. McLean

Google
This is the real deal a Philly cheese steak. The steak meat, provolone cheese, and the roll. Oh my goodness. The best I have ever tasted. Reasonable prices with an amazing atmosphere. The server was knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. When in Philly check them out.

Google
I opted for spring rolls, they were hot crispy & oily. I decided to do take out because there was a woman who had her dog lying on the outside patio table. Because of this and the fact that parking is super difficult, I won't be returning.

Google
Everyone seems to be reviewing the cheesesteak but don’t sleep on the roast pork sandwich — the balance of flavors with the broccoli rabe and sharp provolone is perfect, as is the bread. Shatteringly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Great patio, friendly staff, 10/10.

This place has everything you want in a neighborhood bar—an awesome patio for summer hangouts and a cozy indoor space perfect for any season. The beer selection is top-notch, and the vibe is always on point. A must-visit spot for good drinks and great times!

Google
We were recommended this place from a local bartender and he wasn't wrong. You want a good cheese steak, this was the place. We ordered up the Me 19, cheese steak with fried onions and long hots, which came on a sesame bread. The provolone was melted throughout the steak, instead of not melted and just there. I'm just saying Jim's might need to take note. Service was great as well, I would give a shout out to our bartender but I forgot her name. Next time we are back we will be stopping in, in the meantime we will be telling everyone to give it a try.

Beer selection is massive and great outdoor seating area which is dog friendly. The cheesesteak had a great portion of meat. Pizza and Fries were avg, will try the burger next time.

My wife and I drove down to Philly for a day trip and stumbled across Jaxx's, and we we're glad we did. First off, Jennifer was amazing. She was attentive and helped in picking our order. Of course, we ordered a Philly cheese steak, and it was delicious. The bread was toasted with that slight crunch. The meat was not tough or dry and was more than enough for the sandwich. My only negative was that the fries were not true, cajun fries. Just regular crinkle fries with some cajun spices sprinkled over them. I only ate half of my sandwich, my wife only ate half of a half. We took the rest home and had it for dinner. I recommend eating at Jaxx's, you won't be disappointed. Also, they had a nice arrangement of tv's, so we were able to watch the Olympics.

Google
Decent cheesesteak. I like mine with more cheese and a non seasame roll but these are minor quibbles. Meat was tender and juicy. Staff is funny and friendly. Bar is very dog friendly. Absurdly good beer selection. Local bar vibes, very nice casual place.

Yelp
I visited Jaxx with some friends as part of a cheesesteak comparison crawl in South Philadelphia. We shared a couple of cheesesteaks and enjoyed a few drinks on their patio outside. I enjoyed a frozen slushie (they offer several flavors, but I tried the lime margarita, which was really refreshing). We also had a couple of beers from their very extensive beer collection inside. The outside seating was covered and had several TVs playings sports, making it a very comfortable place to enjoy a meal or drinks. The service was a great, too. The cheesesteaks were a bit of a letdown. The roll was great (loved the texture and the sesame seeds). However, there was hardly any cheese on our cheesesteak (more of a steak sandwich), leaving it dry and not too flavorful. One of the best things about a chopped (vs ribbon) cheesesteak is the way the cheese gets distributed throughout the meat. But our cheesesteak at Jaxx didn't have enough cheese to allow that to happen. Overall, still a fun place to enjoy a drink and their patio!

Yelp
We were in our way to another Philly cheese steak place when the taxi driver told us about Jaxx. He said "you can't leave Philly without trying the number one voted Philly cheese steak place". So we told him ok change destination! This place didn't disappoint not one bit. The steak was so good, the bread was perfectly toasted, the cheese sauce was just the right compliment, and the hot peppers was hot! Thank goodness I don't live in Philly because I'd be here every day! The fun part about this place is they have a bar connected to it where they sell all kinds of craft beer! The bartender was also amazing, she was one of the kindest souls I've ever met! Lastly I want to give a shout out to the owner. He came to talk to us and he was just so down to earth, so genuine, and just an up upstanding guy! It's because of him I will never forget this place!

Yelp
Located in a small neighborhood in Philly, you'll find Jaxx's. It's small so we ended up sitting outside on the patio. They had outside warmers and were able to turn them on for us. Ordering food was confusing because they have a second bar in the back and the kitchen and I was first told by the bartender at the front bar that I would need to order in the back but a woman in the back said she we would come outside to take our order. I won't fault them since it was Thursday night football and they started to get busy. I ordered the Me 19 cheesesteak with cheese whiz, provolone, mushrooms and the long hots on the side. It was messy but super yummy. I got a side of fries that were extra well done but I wasn't made at iit. They had a couple of fridges filled with local craft beer. I got the Yuzu ginger cider which paired well with my meal. I tried the slushees and they were strong but delicious. I recommend the pineapple cherry mixture. I would definitely be back. Heads up, there's only street parking so parking could be hard to find.

Yelp
This was my last stop for the night to watch most of the Phillies Game five NCLS championship series this past Saturday. South Philly Neighborhood bar with lots of outside sitting that is perfect if you're coming with large parties. They have a giant screen to watch the game and you can walk straight into their entrance to the place at the first bar they have or second bar further back in the place to get beers and take them out to your outside seating area. I was having such a good time that I even bought a slushie and asked for four cups so I could give some to fellow Phillies fans at the bar as I was in such a good mood with the Phillies hitting up the Diamondbacks this night. They do not serve hard liquor, shots, etc. as this is a beer bar, only other option than beer is slushies. Food Menu has ample options and looks like what you would want when looking for pub food. I would come back, but this location is not close to me, and what I saved in money on cocktails went straight to my Lyft fair for the ride back to the suburbs. As always people SYOY!!!

Yelp
You can get good food here, you can also make so-so choices. The best that I've had: cheese steak with long hots, and their appetizer sampler that includes chicken tenders, fries, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks. They fry things PERFECTLY, I've never had fried food with such a perfectly dry surface, yet cooked nicely inside. A roast beef sandwich I had was just ok, the beast that gave itself up for the meal was having a bad day, I think. It happens. Pizza also only OK. (Seems to happen a lot in Philly.) The bad one, I had last night. Nachos. Dry overcooked chicken, came out cold, just unpleasant to eat. Even the jalapenos weren't hot. I like the people who work at this place at the bar, but the menu is a bit of a minefield. I dislike having limited (good) options at a restaurant!

Yelp
Very good basics. Enjoyed the Caesar salad and the cheese steaks! Convenient and quick takeout turn around.

Yelp
As soon as we arrived in Philadelphia we wanted to try a cheesesteak and came across this place. Everything on their menu was resonably priced and customer service was outstanding. We had cheesesteaks, roast pork, roast beef and french fries which were all delicious. I definitely recommend giving this spot a try!

Yelp
Great Browns Backers Location. Cheese Steaks were delicious, we had both a chicken and a steak. Must visit if in Philly.

Yelp
We came here during New Year's Day, appreciated that it was open. The vibe on the inside is fun, chill sports bar energy. The food was subpar, we got a burger and a BLT. The BLT was on basic white toast and pretty unremarkable for its $8/9 price. The burger followed suit. The service was fine, we didn't interact with the bartenders just the kitchen counter. I would come back here to drink.

Yelp
Had a couple beers on a bad day. The gal behind the bar was a delight. Jennifer made sure my drinks never emptied and provided some delightful company.

Yelp
Seems like the upgraded their cooks and it really shows in the food! Extra care in the food preparation is back! the new tacos are a phenomenal addition and the pizza is lightyears better. Great bar pie. As always, great place to watch the phillies while drinking a few guinness drafts and petting a few neighborhood dogs.

Yelp
Amazing staff, great vibes, excellent craft beer selection. Had a great time watching PSU embarrass SMU here.

Yelp
The staff that runs this establishment are very friendly and you can tell they appreciate their success in this establishment. All kinds of bears are offered here for your taste buds. The food was pretty good and from the Cheesesteak to the Seasoned Fries. My only Minus 1 Star was because the Cheesesteak was on the small side for a large, but It was plenty of food nonetheless.

Yelp
My first time at Jaxx and it was amazing!! I came on a Sunday. The service was top notch, drinks were delicious/ strong, and the food was phenominal!! I ordered the cheesesteak, fries, onion rings and had a peach long island slushie. OMG everything was great. Everyone was so friendly. I truly love this place and it is a must try if you have not been here. I only leave honest reviews and trust me this place is the truth!!

Yelp
Was back in Philly after many years with some friends from Western PA. Decided to show them what a real cheesesteak was like and found Jaxx on a list of best steaks in Philly. We chose Jaxx over others because we wanted to sit down and have some beer. Good choice! This jawn is conveniently located near the river in South Philly. Jaxx dining room has two bars and an ample amount of seating around them. Also, the room had lots of natural light. A fun seating area. If it had been nice, there was good seating outside too. Our waitress was awesome. She handled our big group with ease. Beer options were very nice. Could buy cans and bring them to our table. Would have been nice to have a few more local options. But still, plenty to choose from. Had some wings and fries. Nicely done. Tasty and well cooked. Now for the main event - the cheesesteaks. Meat quality and quantity was awesome. Not as many onions as I would have liked. Mushrooms were the canned variety. And the odd part, seeded buns. So, while it was tasty, I'd say not a classic steak sandwich. Still; we had a great time, enjoyed the food; and I'd return without hesitation.

Yelp
I worked with Joe from Jaxx steaks to plan an engagement party in their taproom and it was better than i ever could have imagined! He was great and worked with me for whatever we needed throughout the whole process. The food was absolutely incredible, the bar service was great and was always fully stocked with whatever we needed. Great atmosphere with the garage doors open on a beautiful night and the phillies game on too!! Could not recommend Jaxx enough!

Yelp
This is my favorite cheesesteak in Philly! The seeded roll makes the whole thing! The staff are super friendly but if you're looking for takeout just know that they aren't the best at answering the phone. If you are dining in, you can grab drinks at the attached bottle shop (they have alcoholic slushies!) or you can actually sit in the bottle shop or outside. Also a great place to watch the game.

Julie D.

Yelp
This place is the best in South Philly for delicious food & drinks with friends! The service is awesome, food is incredible, and the vibes are perfect. Sit outside, or inside, feel the crisp Spring/Summer breeze and watch our Philly teams win! Oh, and do not forget to try their awesome slushies!!! :)

Yelp
To say I'm disappointed and disheartened by what I witnessed to night is an understatement. My family are frequent visitors to this establishment, but no more. Tonight they were "raffling" off chances for Taylor Swift tickets. Some people were charged $30 just for the chance (I paid 2 for $60), other people were told they had to spend $30 to get a chance, and friends of the owner were handed free tickets "because he can do what he wants". Well, guess who one? The person who had the wad of tickets and just so happened to be the owner's friend. I found it strange that my name had to be on the ticket and I had to be there to claim the prize. No names were announced- just numbers on the ticket. Shitty move on their part leaving people with a worse taste in their mouths about Jaxx than the ticket waiting times for TS.

Yelp
Spent a long weekend in fab Philly and enjoyed a steak Sammie everyday and Jaxx's sandwich was the absolute best! The place offers a great beer selection and several places to chill and watch a game while eating to your heart's content.

Yelp
I almost exclusively order take out from here because I live across the street. Staff is always very friendly. Steaks are good size and loaded. South sauce is something that I get cravings for randomly which tells you how good it is. I like their pizzas a lot and I'm kinda picky about them. Prices are fair. I feel like a lot of positive energy came with the name change and always bring my friends here when they are visiting from out of the city.
