JBGB's Review - Baltimore - The Infatuation

"Like any East Coast city with a large Italian immigrant population, Baltimore has opinions on pizza. And while old-school spots like continue to be local favorites, JBGB’s is the best of the newer pizzerias in town. The allium pie is a true standout—it’s creamy and oniony with a scallion bechamel that’s not too overpowering, along with seasonal specials like a roasted squash, fontina, and jowl bacon combo. Come for dinner and split a few pies, plus the double cheeseburger while you’re at it. At lunch, they turn into Butcher and the ‘Wich, a shop with a rotating menu of some of the city’s best sandwiches (the Italian Cold Cut forever has our heart)." - Michele Berry

On an overnight trip to Baltimore from D.C., the hotel (good neighbor) I stayed at recommended JBGB's as a good lunch/dinner spot. Naturally, I went and it did not disappoint. Here's my experience. 1) Food: The lunch menu is written on a parchment paper at the counter. You can't go wrong, but people often order the cheeseburger or the Italian Beef, which is what I got. It comes with amazingly spiced beef and cheese. The half is more than enough for lunch and costs $15. 2) Drinks: They have a fridge full of craft soda, water, beer, and Fanta. 3) Service: It's friendly and helpful. Stopping in for lunch, I was able to eat inside in their dining space. 4) Space: It's beautifully designed with shelves of products for sale. There's outdoor and indoor seating. 5) Area: There's easy street parking nearby and other local businesses in a true neighborhood.

We had no trouble getting a table at 6pm on a rainy Saturday evening. We also had an easy time securing street parking. Our server grabbed our drink order as soon as we took our seats. I’d highly recommend trying the garlic bread as an appetizer. One guest at our table exclaimed that JBGB’s garlic bread was “the best he ever had!” We ordered the reuben pizza, along with the bacon, egg, and cheese pizza, as our entrees. The reuben pizza arrived to our table slathered with Dijon mustard, rendering it barely palatable. The bacon, egg, and cheese pizza was greasy, but delicious. We asked for extra cheese on our pizzas. That request was either ignored or lost in translation. The pizzas arrived to our table steaming hot about five minutes apart (a good thing). The pizzas had a rather thin crust with a light, airy, flavorful dough. The outside edge of both pizzas were lightly burned. We probably won’t come back here again for the pizzas. I’d still recommend trying this place once for unique takes on pizza that you won’t find anywhere else. Also, come here if you are seeking a unique culinary adventure (who else has steak tartare on the menu)?

🚨 Best Burger in Baltimore Alert 🚨 That’s right, you heard it here first friends, JBGB’s burger constructed with two 4 oz. patties, mac sauce, lettuce, and pickles has solidified itself as Baltimore’s best burger in my book. A must have. But wait there’s more….located in Charles Village, JBGB’s is serving up delicious comfort favorites. With a butchery located next door, the menu is packed with protein options. Our group started with the Sausage pizza which was topped with fontina cheese, cherry peppers, white sauce and cooked in their wood fire oven. Then we shared the butchery torta which is a piece of bread cooked in the aforementioned oven, sliced open and stuffed full of charcuterie. If that wasn’t enough, the wagyu Denver steak was cooked perfectly and sliced thin but not too thin and drizzled with hollandaise - yum! The atmosphere is great with a come as you are vibe. The only thing was that there was little to no AC and were sat in front of the oven so it got a little warm, maybe visit on a non humid summer day or opt to sit outside when temps are comfortable.

We went to a wine festival and JBGB had a set up there. We decided to try the sausage and macaroni salad and it was absolutely amazing. For that very reason we decided to come to the actual restaurant and give them a try. Wow did they not disappoint! From the appetizers, to the pizza, to the entrees, everything was so delicious. Not to mention how attentive and friendly the staff were. We had such an amazing evening that we are now coming back with our friends and family that are visiting us from out of town. We are so proud to show them what a real Baltimore culinary experience is made of.

Very friendly staff. Have had pizza here several times. The pizza is so good. Last time we got the steak and subbed fries for potatoes. Loved the fries. The steak didn’t taste like too much but was cooked well. We have had several of the pizzas and they’re all good. Have had some really good and interesting drinks and some interesting drinks that we didn’t really care for. But nice to try new drinks.

You know a place is good when you cannot wait to leave the restaurant to let the world know how amazing of a culinary experience you’ve had !!!!!! But this place wasn’t just good it was INCREDIBLE… the wine list, the cocktails, pizza and mains… there wasn’t something we did not enjoy every single bite!! Not to mention the service was out of this world, we were truly made to feel like royalty!! (Must have the B.E.C pizza, the burgers and Ice-cream sandwich!!! )Cannot wait to come back! Will definitely be dreaming about this place all the way from NYC!

I give 5 stars when I can’t think of how my night could’ve been any better. I’m not sure what part of B’More this is but it was nice and quiet. We parked on the same street (for free) as the restaurant. They have outdoor seating but we sat inside for air conditioning on a hot day. The food tasted really good and fresh. The people making the salads and pizza are visible from your table. She looked like she made my salad with love and man did it taste like it!! It had seasonal ingredients so it was perfect. Sadly, I had to share with hubby 😬. We also got a pizza to go because people rave about it. Yeah, worth the hype. Service and food delivery were on the slower side, but it’s like that everywhere since the pandemic so it didn’t bother me. Note: The bathroom is shared with other business and had no soap or sanitizer. Not JBGB’s fault. Still 5 stars because I’m always packing hand sanitizer.

They are fantastic! The burger is one of the best in Baltimore. Really all their meats are superb! The pizzas are also excellent and definitely big enough for 2 or 3 people. Their wine and cocktail lists are also impressive. I will be going back.
