The Best Donuts In SF - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"You’re at this old-school Mission institution for gooey, overstuffed, jam- and cream-filled desserts. While the donuts decidedly have a classic feel, fun combinations like chocolate raspberry jam, mango jam, and orange vanilla cream make this place stand out. Their old fashioned and classic donuts tend to be on the chewier side (and not in a good way), but the way the jelly and cream literally fill your mouth with joy more than makes up for it. Grab some extra napkins—you’re likely going to splat some jelly on your shirt. And bring cash. " - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway, Ricky Rodriguez

13 Gloriously Golden Doughnut Shops in San Francisco

"The Jelly Donut, that deep-fried institution on 24th and South Van Ness, reopened after a long two-year closure in July 2021, due to both a retrofit and the pandemic. The family-run shop dates back to 1987, and now the siblings and aunties are back behind the counter, serving classic cruellers and old fashioneds 24/7." - Lauren Saria, Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff

San Francisco Restaurant Reopenings as Coronavirus Restrictions Lift - Eater SF

"It’s been two years since the smell of freshly fried dough filled the air at the Jelly Donut, but the family-run doughnut shop reopened in late June, Mission Local reports. The shop closed in August 2019 for “renovations and seismic retrofitting,” with its reopening further delayed by the pandemic." - Becky Duffett

These doughnuts are delicious! I woke up one day craving an apple fritter, and the ones here are amazing. I love the neighborhood vibe, and the owner is so kind. The prices are so reasonable too. Will be back!

Google
This is my favourite place to come in the morning on my way out of the city. It’s insanely affordable, the coffee station is no-frills but just what you need, the donuts are fun and absolutely delicious, and the people are 10/10. They’re kind, funny, generous people and this donut shop is a total vibe. Even if it’s out of your way you should head to the Mission.

Google
literally run by the sweetest people ever. the donuts are just amazing as well. I went every single day I was in town. well priced too

Cristina Gattari

Google
Small place, if you don't know it, you might miss it. The owners are very kind. And what can I say about the donuts ? wonderful!! We are the eight Italians who invaded your shop yesterday 🤗 Thanks, see you soon!

Google
Jelly Donut is the best. Can't get enough of the wonderful fillings they offer and super fun toppings. This trip we got 2 dozen donuts for the last day of school and there were a big hit as always. Come for the prices and come back again and again for the neighborhood vibe and friendliness of the staff. One pro tip- carry cash or come before 2 to Venmo the owner. No electronic payments in the afternoon when the older generation of the family takes the shift.

Google
Okay, here’s the qualification to my review, I like traditional doughnuts. The fancy $7 a pop doughnuts, trying to be something else just irritate me. That said, Jelly Donut is my new favorite doughnut place in all of California. Primo’s down in LA… excellent. Bob’s in SF is excellent, except when it isn’t. And yes, I’ve tried so, so, so many doughnut places across North America. But Jelly Donut is my new fav. Why? Jelly Donut doughnuts are crunchy on the outside, soft, flavorful, and light on the inside. They’ve got all the standard kind of doughnuts, and a few slight variations like a guava jelly doughnut (outstanding). And… they’re also inexpensive, to the point you’ll think you’ve been under charged. What a gem of a place!

What a lovely donut shop in the heart of the mission and what made it more special was the delightful woman Terry helping me. I was so indecisive and she was patient and kind!

Google
We stumbled across this lovely shop on our last day in San Francisco. We were surprised (and subsequently delighted) to be given a free mini strawberry glazed ring donut with our order of a glazed guava jelly donut, by the kind and friendly person serving at the counter. Both donuts were absolutely delicious! Run, don't walk, to Jelly Donut 🍩 ☺️

Yelp
These guys are the best. Good regular donuts, jelly donuts, and vibes. They are warm to everyone that comes in. It's a local place with good people. If in the area worth stoping by and grabbing a mango or raspberry jelly donut plus what ever you regularly order :).

Yelp
The Jelly Donut shop on 24th st. is a delightful treasure that promises a taste of nostalgic sweetness. My first visit had me seeing a rainbow of bright, colorful jelly-filled donuts & eclair varieties being the standout stars, praiseworthy for their perfect balance of sweetness and generous filling. The friendly staff and quick service adds to their charm, being so kind as to toss in a few free donut holes with my guava jelly filled donut. Overall, a creative lassortment of unique flavors nestled in an old school donut hole making delectable treats that keep locals and visitors alike coming back for more.

Yelp
Good donuts, friendly service, cheap prices. Can't complain! Its cash only but it looks like they take Venmo or cash app as well if you're in a bind
google avatar

Yelp
The maple old fashioned feels like such a luxurious treat but it's only $1.25! I have yet to try other items because it's just so perfect. I love the woman behind the counter who's just so chill and always says "hey mama". I will just have to try more donuts for research! P.S. if you're nice they always throw in an extra treat
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy get there early! Hot chocolate and coffee. But if you like donut holes get there early they'll be gone before 10 AM sometimes..

Yelp
Tuesday through Friday morning I get my coffee nice and hot. My donuts are good nice and hot employees are nice. I can't complain when is crowded and busy you have the lady serving the donuts you have the guy in the back making the donuts but he's multitask he would jump from the back, and come out and help in the front to get the customers in and out fast what you have here is Batman " Batgirl at the end of the day they are a team brothers and sister which they only have one Day off and that's Monday. They have so many different variety of donuts and pastries that they make from scratch and they are so good my favorites are the old-fashioned cinnamon sugar old-fashioned maple I love it is so fresh and the old-fashioned crumb cake in the coffee is nice hot and you can just smell the aroma, make your day bright every time I come I bring somebody with me. This is the best place to get your jelly donuts and coffee in the conversation is really good. Love the family. Jelly donut is the place to bring your family and friends.

Yelp
The lady running the shop was super friendly and kind. I saw the guava jelly donut and had to get it. She saw me eyeing the blueberry donuts and offered one for free, but I opted to pay for it. The guava donut was delicious and bursting with flavor. The blueberry donut I warmed up and ate later and it was so good. Cute small interior. Love the generosity in this city.

Yelp
Love their donuts especially the old fashioned ones They are always so friendly and always throw in free donuts holes

Roy W.

Yelp
Delicious donuts are made fresh daily on location & you can't beat the very good prices!..., the staff are friendly & courteous... Panda is one of them & she is as sweet as the donuts. One thing that's important to remember is it's a cash only business. This is my spot, I don't buy donuts anywhere else.

Yelp
Nice shop and found parking on 24th. Arrived Mid Afternoon and ordered their in stock selection of filled donuts 5 Fruit & 2 Custard the cost $14 but the woman / owner on duty added 2 cake donuts. She was nice and friendly. The donuts were spot on and with fruits fillings Apple Pineapple Mango Guava etc , and the Custards being oh so yummy. Yelp
Have walked by so many times and finally stopped in, I was so happy I did because I now have my go to donut spot. The Jelly Donut is a Mission Neighborhood staple and they have been serving up fresh flavors and all the classics for years. I loved the guava jelly and the blueberry twist was incredible. I always have to get an old fashioned and it hit the spot. Don't forget it's Cash only, there's also an ATM if needed. Pro tip: Victor is awesome, ask him what new flavors he's been working on! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I love this place! I love how friendly and humble they are. I remember my dad would bring me here as a kid all the time. I will never forget Jennifer and how amazing she was. Their donuts are super tasty and prices are especially good for the quality donut. They never judge and even go the extra mile to give free donuts to your order. A super humbling moment I watched was the female employee saw a homeless woman standing outside the donut shop, she made a coffee and a bag of donuts. She then walked out of the donut shop and handed it to the woman. She said "here! Enjoy your day!" It was the sweetest, nicest things I had witnessed in a long time especially with how harsh the world has become. Super humbli

Yelp
Great, cash only spot to grab some donuts in the mission. I came pretty close to the closing, but they still had a variety of their cakes and cruller donuts. I really liked the blueberry and strawberry glaze on the crullers (weren't too sweet and nice flavor). Moreover, the lady who helped me decide was so nice and friendly! She even threw in an extra donut with my half dozen ($7) which was super nice of her. I'll definitely have to come back to try more of their selection since the cream and jelly filled donuts sound super yummy from other reviews!
google avatar

Yelp
I love a classic donut spot. No frills, great classic donuts, great prices, friendly staff.

Yelp
Just move to nearby area and stumbled upon this donut shop. I love donuts so had to give it a try! The gentlemen working was so kind and gave suggestions. I love filled donuts so knew I had to try those. They had different fillings mango, guava, raspberry, pineapple, coconut cream, and so many more. They also had either glazed, powdered or chocolate top. I loved them and thought the donut itself was very delicious. The shop also has many other types of donuts (frosted, sprinkles, etc). I will definitely be coming here a lot and highly recommend!

Yelp
Friendly, fast and affordable. Kiddos (and staff) at my son's end of summer camp party loved them. Bring cash!

Yelp
Best donuts I have had in years! Service was fast and efficient. Ambiance is basic, maybe a little dirty, but no issues for takeout. I would get donuts here again for certain!
google avatar

Yelp
Never buy donuts. Popped in to grab a dozen for work. Didn't even pick them out, just asked for a general assortment. They're so good several people at work asked where they came from, will be back!
google avatar

Helen L.

Yelp
I asked why they were closed one day around 6 pm. She said they might have sold out their donuts. That's incredible to sell out. Well, today it was about 2 pm. Plenty. But incredible to see an array of colorful old fashion donuts. There were blueberries glaze, strawberries, cinnamon, no glaze, chocolate, and sugar glaze. Oh my. Loved the colors. I got a dozen and treated people at work. Food does make people happy. The nice lady threw in some napkins inside the box, what a thoughtful thing to do! I was carrying the box i one hand and the other hand to eat mango filled donut. I was as happy as Homer Simpson.

Yelp
I have to be honest and admit I didn't give this corner donut shop much thought in all the years I've passed by it. With all the panaderias nearby and Dynamo Donuts down the street, I didn't see a reason to try it. But then I read an online article in March about the owner, Chanrith Pak, passing away, and I was touched by her story. She fled Cambodia in the 1980's and built a donut dynasty only to be left with this one shop. She was devoted to her customers, and if anyone was short on money, she'd still make sure no one left empty-handed. Chanrith had to shutter her shop for two years during the pandemic and only recently reopened last summer. Now her two grown children are running the shop, and I believe it was her daughter Kannyka who served me. The selection was everything you'd expect, and the presentation was immaculate. For $1.25 each, I figured I could afford two - at least price wise, calorie wise not so much. I went for a plain Old Fashioned and a cake one with Coconut icing. Kannya was very friendly, and I was on my merry way to eat them at Dolores Park. When I opened the bag, I saw she slipped in a second Old-Fashioned (photo). That's the level of generosity for which her mother gained local renown. It was nice to see her carry on the tradition. Goodwill matters. DONUTS - 4.5 stars...tasty familiar donuts, rightfully prepared AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...remodeled inside with the donuts temptingly displayed SERVICE - 5 stars...five stars doesn't seem like enough TOTAL - 5 stars...Chanrith would be proud RELATED - Exploring the Mission? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2NHtst6

I had a couple of donuts here. The owner was nice, and the donuts were tasty and cheap.

Yelp
I just have to share my experience at The Jelly Donut on Mission San FranciscoIt's super easy to spot with its bright blue storefront on the corner of 24th and South Van Ness Ave. The girl who was selling them was so nice, making the experience even better. They have a great variety of donuts in different styles, from filled with jelly and custard to old fashioned. I picked the mango jelly and another type (honestly can't remember the name) One thing to note is that they only accept cash, but don't worry, Vaymo works like a charm. Overall, if you're a donut lover like me, definitely check out The Jelly Donut!

Yelp
I was staying in Bernal Heights, and I wanted donuts. I love donuts, and, for the most part, the East Coast does not quite do yeast donuts right. Whatever. I took my son, and we rolled up on Jelly Donut and walked out with a dozen classic donuts: old fashioned, longjohns, raised glaze, chocolate cake, jelly donut (obviously). We brought them back to a house with five people and within half an hour, all the donuts were gone. Even the adult who said he didn't really like pastries ate two. We ended up going three days in a row, and there were practically tears when we said we were heading back to NYC. They're serious about their donuts, and they are the friendliest, sweetest people. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We love this place!! Friendly people!! A++!! My coworker and I usually go there early in the morning to get some donuts for everyone else. Their donuts are fresh and so delicious!! They are very, very generous with giving more donuts than we ordered! I LOVE IT!! The inside of the shop is nice and clean. I only wish they had the French crewlers early in the morning. That's my favorite!!

Yelp
Came here today (March 16th, 2023) while on my way to Grocery Outlet nearby. I had previously looked up this local donut shop but didn't know how close it was to the BART station (walking distance). The donut shop is right at the corner of South Van Ness and 24th street, it's a super cozy little shop. I went in and decided to purchase some donuts because my kids had been wanting some custard and jelly filled donuts and sadly our local Safeway didn't have them. I believe I was helped by the owner of this donut shop. She is very friendly, attentive, and kind hearted. She answered every question I had when I asked about the different types of donut. At one point a homeless man came in and she even gave him a donut free of charge. The donuts are fresh looking and delicious. Definitely come and give these donuts a try for yourself.

Yelp
$ CASH ONLY $ Blueberry cream filled donut was sooooo good! Strong blueberry flavor. Lots of filling. Donut itself not too chewy. Glaze Mango filled donut was also really good. Bit on the sweeter side. Lots of filling. Mango chunks in the filling! Both was $4 total. The sweet lady also threw in an extra donut. Will definitely stop by here more often.
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
Small donut shop with friendly service. Be warned that they only take cash, no card but they do take Venmo. I got a plain apple fritter and a custard filled maple glazed donut. The worker was really nice and gave an extra cinnamon sugar cake donut for me to try. Both the custard filled maple glazed donut and cinnamon sugar cake donut were really good. I would skip the plain apple fritter. I didn't realize the plain apple fritter would be plain plain. I thought it would be a regular one with glaze but there was actually nothing, literally plain. It was barely sweet and didn't have that many apple pieces inside but that was partly my fault for not knowing.

Yelp
Scrumptious, yummy donuts with delicious fillings priced right at at cute little spot run by a lovely, cheerful fella. Hit it up!

Yelp
I can't believe it's taken me this long to finally step into this place and thankfully this business did not disappoint. They were closed for a while due to the building undergoing seismic renovations but it's great to see them back in business. First of all, when you walk in, the smell is heavenly. You're encompassed in the lovely comforting scent of donuts galore. It's hard to describe the smell but you just want to inhale it in. Has a candle been made that smells like donuts because I would totally buy that. The space is pretty tiny. They had maybe two seats by the window which are usually empty but would make for amazing people watching since this donut shop sits right on 24th Ave. There were two people in front of me in line so it gave me time to ponder my options. It was after work on a weekday but I still saw all the typical donuts one would expect from a donut shop ie. crullers, jelly-filled, cake donuts so the pickings were not bad considering it was close to 5PM. The woman at the front counter was a pure delight! Her smile was sunshine personified. I ordered two cake donuts to go and she sweetly stuck a third donut in my bag for free. I thought I was getting special treatment but after reading a few other reviews, it sounds like they give out freebies on the regular. Donuts were delicious and soft and didn't hold up too badly when I had one the following day. Cash only establishment but saw they also take Venmo and Zelle.

Yelp
Delicious donuts! Wonderful display of a great variety of donuts. We got an assorted dozen donuts all of which were so good. Quick and friendly service. Will be our new go to spot for donuts!

Yelp
The Jelly Donut came on my radar when my brother and I were looking for a place to get some fast eats before hitting the road to San Simeon. After whipping out Yelp, I discovered that The Jelly Donut was not far; doughnuts seemed like the perfect vacation breakfast, so we made our way over to check them out. The Jelly Donut is no frills - they have a variety of doughnut types to choose from, as well as coffee (a natural combination). I decided to go with two doughnuts - the glazed and the cruller. The glazed was great - right amount of sweetness, soft and pillowy - really everything I wanted in a classic glazed. The cruller was better than I expected - I normally don't find them to be anything special, but this one was cakier than normal and had excellent flavor - so good and so fresh, it was one of the best crullers I've ever had. Service was fast and friendly, and overall I'm glad we stopped here before heading out of the city. This is definitely a place to return to when I make my way back to SF.

Rodil H.

Yelp
Awesome place to get your donut fix.. not fancy, but a 5 star for quality, selection and the owner who helps you. I live in Pacifica and this is my go to place to get a donut. It's worth the drive and looking for parking. You won't be disappointed..
google avatar

Ivan V.

Yelp
Overpriced, smaller doughnuts and never open during its posted signs. Excuses abound by the the daughter who works in the am. Why it's never open: "we're a mom and pop store". No wonder target and other large chain stores run them out of business. The son who took over for the father after it closed for renovation during the COVID shuttering doesn't make enough doughnuts and sometimes the place sells out before 3 pm. Smh

Yelp
We saw The Jelly Donut on a website and saw they were ranked #7 in the states. Before heading back to the airport, we stopped by to grab some donuts. For ambiance, it's a small shop with limited seating - it's definitely a grab & go kind of place. At 11:15am, they had a wide variety of donuts. We got the mango jelly filled donut (I love mangos) and a strawberry sprinkle donut. The guy at the counter was also super nice & friendly - making jokes along the way. He even gave us 2 extra donuts - cinnamon crunch and blueberry glaze. The cinnamon crunch donut was AMAZING. We loved the mango and strawberry but the cinnamon crunch donut was stellar. So happy we stopped by here! Definitely one of the best donuts we've had.

Yelp
Great price, friendly and amazing people working here. If you haven't been here already you are definitely missing out.
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
Stumbled upon The Jelly Donut on a slow Sunday afternoon. I had been craving donuts for a while and from the display they looked promising. I really don't care for cakey donuts, nor super soft donuts. Their donut hit the spot, I ordered a regular glaze and a chocolate glaze. The donut was soft with a chew, and not sickly sweet. All in all a very competent and affordable. Note: the shop is cash only
google avatar

Caleb S.

Yelp
Stumbled here on our walk back from gorging on burritos and tacos in the Mission District. Easily the best donuts I've had in ages. The person helping us was so friendly, and we got some amazing recommendations between the blueberry glaze, strawberry glaze and an orange vanilla crème filled donut. Cash only, but super affordable. Can't recommend this enough.
google avatar

Kuda C.

Yelp
Go here with a game plan of the donut you want or you will walk out with more donuts do you need everything looks amazing. Everything is fresh and the customer service is top-notch. I would not recommend this place if you are trying to get rid of your man boobs.

Sonia C.

Yelp
This is the best donut spot around! So fresh and delicious! Amazing variety. Panda and the crew are all super cool. Definitely recommend this spot!
google avatar

Susan O.

Yelp
I went here today after some how missing out for the entire 30 years I've been in the Mission.(not saying they've been here that long -not sure) I heard they give little freebies. So I went. But the best freebie was the absolutely delightful, the refreshing gracious, down to earth nice, friendly, no bullshit interaction I had with the owner/worker. It was the kind interaction that gives me faith in humanity, I'm feeling so touched by her innate kindness, I feel kinda giddy! And the donuts were fucking delicious!
google avatar

Travis S.

Yelp
I love going here. It's an occasional treat to myself. They're all so kind. It's people from the community, and you can feel how much pride they take in their business being an integral part of that community as well. It's always busy. A major stop for blue-collared workers. A lot of the customers are locals in the area. It gives it a very familiar, homey feel that you just don't get at non-family owned businesses. The donuts are amazing. I recommend the raspberry filled, but honestly they're all so good. They even have blueberry flavored donuts. Whenever I go in, I get an extra donut for free. So, I definitely make sure to always leave them with a tip for their excellent service. You should too. Keep ma and pa shops open!
google avatar

Mellissa B.

Yelp
Best donuts in town. We love coming here before school. Located near BART. Gotta try the jelly filled of course. And all the others are just as yummy. The shop is family run. The second Gen running the shop now are so friendly and kind. Classic and unique flavors. Great reasonable prices. We don't go anywhere else for donuts in the city!

Rachel E.

Yelp
Best donuts in the city!!!! Came in at 6:10 am to get them fresh!! Costumer service 10/10
google avatar

Yelp
Great donut shop. Solid donuts at a good price, and the coffee is also quality, a concern for some shops. The owners are also amazing and the location is pretty quiet for the Mission. This is my place!

Yelp
The best donuts everrrrrr. I got them fresh at 6 am, they were the swirl ones (French style). I got chocolate and I INHALED it. It was soooo fresh and fluffy. Definitely recommend!! Sorry no pics I ate it too fast.
