Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Review - Lakeview - Chicago - The Infatuation

"We’re glad Jeni’s has so many locations in Chicago, since the ice cream here is outstanding. It’s rich and creamy, with excellent mix-ins (plus, everything is made from scratch). On top of all that, the people behind the counter are incredibly patient - they will stand there while you try every single flavor without acting as annoyed as they have every right to be." - Adrian Kane

Even though it’s a small place and can get hectic the staff are so patient yet efficient. We had a food allergy in the group and were safely able to accommodate to that individual as well. Flavors are great and unique. Not a heavy or dense-feeling ice cream, in fact it had kind of a gummy froyo like consistency. LOVED IT! Yes they have a diary free option

Google
I first tried Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in Cali at a Yelp Event and I was hooked. So glad I stumbled across this location while in Chicago. Let's jump right into this review. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is known for its innovative and unique flavors, smooth texture, and high-quality ingredients, particularly grass-fed milk and dairy. Jeni's is living up to their motto of unforgettable flavors. This location is large and has beautiful spaces to eat ice cream, indoor and outdoor. The outdoor seating is perfect and picturesque for those warmer nights. I was greeted when I entered and assisted quickly on my ice cream order. I ordered the Strawberry Shortcake Parfait $9.00 - a happy marriage of two opposites-attract ice creams: subtly tart Strawberry Buttermilk and decadently sweet Gooey Butter Cake. Layered between real strawberry sauce and whipped cream. EPICALLY DELICIOUS! Two words - PULL UP! Jeni's is waiting to satisfy your ice cream desires.

Google
Good ice cream, lots of flavors to choose from. They make the waffle cones fresh on the spot. They also let you try the flavors before deciding. Staff was pleasant as well.

Google
Good gravy this is good ice cream! I like that they give you samples, not all the samples I tried were good, but the one I landed on was absolutely excellent. The scoops are on the small side, but because it’s so rich, you probably only need a small serving. Get the strawberry pretzel one and skip lunch and breakfast that day.

Google
I came to Jenis Ice Cream yesterday and it was such a great experience. The girl working was the sweetest person ever, so kind and welcoming. She made the visit even better. The ice cream was amazing too, so rich and full of flavor. I will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Google
The ice cream here is very delicious with a unique flavor. The staff is extremely friendly, and the place has a special atmosphere that makes you feel happy.

Google
This location is such a scenic opportunity. You can take photos of the city, you, and your group while waiting in line for your ice cream. They get you in and out, so if you’re in a deep conversation while grabbing ice cream, the line should be quick. I will never pass on getting Jen’s and this location made it so easy to grab it and continue on with my day. Looks like Jeni’s is expanding into other merch and such and I’m all for it. They have seasonal flavors so be sure to ask staff what will be leaving soon. I did notice the different locations of Jeni’s have different operation hours so make sure you pay attention to that.

Google
This place has such great flavors that usually don’t see anywhere else. The ice cream is creamy and they have plenty of toppings inside.

Yelp
Jeni's never disappoints and this one is a spot I frequent throughout the summer. Recently they introduced a new cosmic line which has groovy flavors like Cosmic Bloom or Nebula Berry. I tried both of those and they taste amazing, but tonight I went for the seasonal strawberry buttercream and one of my favorite flavors lemon blueberry. If you need a citrusy fruity refreshing combo, this is definitely one to try. Other personal favorites include gooey butter cake, brown butter almond brittle, and bramble berry crisp. The service is also always super friendly and helpful and they give great recommendations. This is a must stop for hot Chicago summers, or any time of year really. If you are in need of a sweet treat and are in the area, be sure to give Jeni's a try.

Yelp
There's no denying that Jeni's has some of the best ice cream in town! This location is conveniently located between River North and Gold Coast. The space is very small with limited indoor seating, so keep that in mind if the weather is bad. It's right in a park though with plenty of tables and benches. All of the staff here is beyond friendly and will let you sample as many flavors as you want!

Yelp
Very good ice cream but the selection of flavors doesn't really compete with other places nearby. Kurimu is nearby and fantastic.

Yelp
We are from California, and I was planning to go in this brand to taste the different flavors. Surprised me I could tried in Chicago. First, this location is cute, pleasant. The service is really nice, friendly. And, the ice cream is outstanding. Not cheap but it is worth. They have package for mother's day, I think your mom deserves them!

Yelp
This was one of the most amazing ice cream places I've been to in Chicago in a long time. All the ice cream is homemade, the waffles are made fresh. The service was good. The ambiance wasa great vibe. A good place to get your ice cream and chill. Definitely a place that I recognize.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Jeni's ice cream has been a stop for me every time I've visited Chicago (which would be... twice.) It seems like one of the best ice cream shops in the area, if you're looking for some more unique flavors. FOOD // The ice cream is pricey for the size of the scoops - it's currently at $7 for the standard size (up to 2 scoops - see photo) - so I'd say it's more of a once-in-a-while treat. I ended up getting the Darkest Chocolate and the Brambleberry Crisp. Loved the Darkest Chocolate - it was super chocolate-y and bittersweet, which was a perfect dessert after the giant dinner we'd just consumed. I'd definitely get this again. The Brambleberry Crisp wasn't bad, but it didn't knock my socks off. It was a bit too sweet by the end of the scoop. Many of their other flavors also sounded super sweet to me (e.g. all the candy and cake-inspired flavors). SERVICE // I always appreciate getting to sample the flavors before picking which one to commit to. The staff member helping me was friendly and efficient. We ran here to make it after dinner and made it in a few minutes before they closed. They still helped us out even though we ended up going a little past closing time. AMBIANCE// Convenient location to visit from Magnificent Mile. I love all the windows in the storefront, which help make the space feel very open. The cobblestone area right outside had plenty of tables and chairs that were filled with groups chatting while enjoying their ice cream.

Yelp
Line was out the door, basically to the sidewalk. I waited around 15-20 min. They were just about to close and made it in before the lights were shut. My companion convinced me to get 3 scoops because "it was a good deal." Was it? It was only $.70 more. It was but their scoops are pretty small. They had no cones left but gave us extra wafers. It was alright but not as good as an actual cone. The flavors we got were Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks, Brambleberry Crisp, and Brown Butter Almond Brittle. The best one was the peanut butter. There is seating inside and outside. Overall, a good way to spend an evening in Downtown Chicago.

Yelp
Stopped in for an ice cream fix and liked the ice cream a lot. The service was friendly and helpful

Yelp
Run don't walk to your nearest Jeni's!!! If there is one thing you need to know it is DO NOT skip out on the waffle cone bowl. It melts in your mouth & it seriously so amazing. I'm obsessed. I loooovvee all of Jeni's unique flavors you can't find anywhere else. My favorite so far has been salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks. They rotate every few weeks which flavors are pints only, so don't be discouraged if you can't try a certain flavor in a bowl/cone because if you go back again in a few weeks it will most likely be available. There is normally a line out the door, but the service is great! They keep the line moving quickly. I have never waited for more than 10ish minutes.
google avatar

Yelp
Who doesn't love an ice cream stop at Jeni's? This location is nestled within the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago. Ther interior has a few chairs, but not enough during a rainy weekend. It was definitely very crowded with customers and many people were standing inside. Regardless, the brambleberry crisp is my go-to flavor and it tasted delicious in the cold weather. The brown butter almond brittle was a little too sweet for my palate. But you bet I still finished both scoops!

Orla G.

Yelp
I LOVED molly, grace, and riley's service. They were so helpful with explaining flavors and samples. 15/10 would revisit only for their service.
google avatar

Yelp
What a cute, cozy little ice cream shop! I've tried Jeni's pints before but had never been in a retail location. Don't think about the economics and enjoy the experience and smell. The server was patient and let us sample multiple flavors. I enjoyed whatever flavors I ordered but do wish they had MORE flavors. I didn't enjoy the affogato.
google avatar

Monica N.

Yelp
It's always a treat to grab Jeni's! This specific space is super cute. They have a fireplace on the inside and plenty of seating on the outside for the summertime! The space is nuzzled in a little triangle section surrounded by all the fancy shops. The service is always quick and the staff here are so friendly. They're super patient when it comes to ice-cream tastings and never get overwhelmed no matter how big the line is. My favorite ice-cream is: brambleberry crisp, peanut butter chip, and almond brittle. They always have season flavors so keep an eye out. Tip: - download the jenis app for rewards and free ice-cream scoop on your birthday! - a serving is two scoops regardless of flavor you choose so always get two different flavors for more delicious goodness. - they have vegan flavors!
google avatar

Yelp
I love Jeni's! I was surprised and happy to see that they opened in this location! It used to be a tea place! The inside has a working fireplace and seating. While the outside has adequate and shaded seating in an actual park setting! Perfect for summer! Location is in between the Mag Mile area and the Gold Coast! Not only is the location special and unique-there is a scoop station inside as well as a self service freezer for pints "to go!" Will return again in the summer!!!

Yelp
Who doesn't want a little Jeni's ice cream in the afternoon? Jeni's ice cream is so creamy and delicious and this is a great location to stop in and grab a seat to relax as you enjoy. However, my one complaint is regarding the variety of ice cream options. In the summer, I tend to prefer fruity and light flavors but for some reason, all of the fruity flavors were "pint only" so I couldn't try them in a cone. I still enjoyed the milkiest chocolate and brambleberry flavors that I got, but it would have been great to see a few more options on a 90 degree day.

Yelp
A great place with great ice cream. The flavors are unique and it's such a creamy ice cream that you will love them. This location has indoor and outdoor seating. Fun for all. In a great location. Parking is very tough so don't drive here.
google avatar

Yelp
Located in Wabash near Chicago Avenue, this intimate ice cream shop houses free tastings and really good ice cream. The waffle cones are addictive and the smell is amazing. I tried three creamy vanilla, chocolate, and salted caramel flavors. On a hot day, this dessert will definitely perk you up.

Yelp
While visiting Chicago I'm so glad that I discovered this place! I'm a big fan of Jeni's Ice Cream. I discovered Jeni's Ice Cream in the Denver area. They're usually sold at Whole Foods Market. The only downside is that they don't feature new flavors. They're usually the same flavors at every WFM I've been to so visiting here was a real treat! I selected Mexican Hot Chocolate in a Waffle Cone. I stayed away from flavors that I could purchase in a pint at WFM in Denver. The Mexican Hot Chocolate but not as good other flavors I've had in the past. I wish they had Jeni's Ice Cream stores in the metro Denver area. I visited this store after having my last dinner in Chicago. I like how this is situated on a street corner. The interior is very clean and there is a fair amount of places to sit at while enjoying your ice cream. There is also a nice seating area outside. The evening I visited wasn't good for sitting outside as it was raining. I recommend checking this Jeni's location out. Especially if you're a fan of her ice cream. They also sell pints of ice cream so if you're out of town visiting Chicago, you may purchase a pint and bring it back to your hotel room for storing in the freezer. Hope you enjoy your visit!

Yelp
I got my free birthday scoop here last year and they are really so generous with what they give you. I also love that they allow you to get free samples (as all ice cream places should, in my opinion). The salty caramel was so delicious. I also liked the honey vanilla bean and gooey butter cake flavors.

Yelp
Great ambience really welcoming vibe Service is great friendly and helpful nice attitude Ice cream is top notch the double dough is absolutely tasty almost addicting.

Yelp
Absolutely love all Jeni's Ice Cream locations but this may be my favorite one so far. It is quite unique with its greenhouse type building. As soon as I walked in I was able to be taken care of, no line at all to my surprise since this is located in such a busy area. There were many patrons sitting at the available outdoor seating area. While I was enjoying my ice cream, I observed a long-term health facility making a little field trip to here where all of the elderly patrons were served their ice cream and sat at many of the outdoor tables tables. It is quite wheelchair friendly. LOVE LOVE LOVE JENI'S ICE CREAM super splendid indeed! also, jeni's ice cream has great marketing. the first time i had jeni's was during a time they were handing out free scoops - it seems like they do quite frequently in the summer. i'm glad to have had such a wonderful experience for the free and decided it was so good that i needed to come back to spend my money!!

Yelp
Here's what you need to know: the Ice cream is terrific, but expensive. Location / ambiance in the park is beyond excellent. Service is apathetic and transactional. Rotating flavors and some classics/originals are offered at Jeni's that was made by a aroma/scent expert form Ohio. It's become quite the national sensation, and the locations they pick are absolutely top notch. Cost me $7/child and about 35 for a family of 4 to have ice cream
google avatar

Padma A.

Yelp
Great way to end the evening with Jeni's ice cream ... the staff is very polite and patient letting folks try the many flavors of the ice cream. We like coming here whenever in the area.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Free ice cream samples! Quick and nice service as always. When in doubt, go for the gooey butter cake because it never disappoints. My favorite flavors are the wedding cake (seasonal), golden nectar (seasonal) and the gooey butter cake.
google avatar

Bernie C.

Yelp
This Jeni's location would have been rated higher by me if we were solely rating on aesthetics, locations and convenience. However, this store does not have a lot of flavors on site, and there is limited space for customers to sit and enjoy their ice cream. Regardless, I have had good experiences purchasing Jeni's here, and will certainly return in Spring/Summer 2023.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
What's not to love about Jeni's? Absolutely delightful ice cream - every single flavor. This new location of Jeni's is adorable with friendly employees and lots of room to sit on benches outside. Not much of a line today, but even if there had been, it moved extremely quickly. Today, I got 3 scoops in a waffle bowl: Brambleberry Crisp, Gooey Butter Cake, and Golden Nectar! And I could not tell you which flavor was my favorite because all 3 were phenomenal. I had tried the Brambleberry Crisp before at a different location, but this was my first time trying the other 2 flavors. The waffle bowls (and cones) were made fresh there too and added even more flavor.
google avatar

Senitra G.

Yelp
Who doesn't need midweek treat! I took an afternoon stroll to Jeni's to check out their cool flavors. I was greeted upon entry and the smell of freshly made waffle cones teased my nose and tastebuds. Cheyenne was very helpful and knew the right questions to ask so that you could recommend options. Per, her recommendation I went with Brown Butter Almond Brittle (seasonal flavor) and Golden Nectar. What a perfect combination and my tastebuds did somersaults. I bought the Bombastix Sundae Cone for my daughter (don't judge me but I also bout me some more of the Brown Butter Almond Brittle ) Overall delicious ice creams, awesome customer service (Cheyenne is a rock star with the recommendations and customer service). Perfect addition to the neighborhood!
google avatar

Betsy M.

Yelp
Super fast service--don't be intimidated by the line, it moves fast! Inventive flavors and a whimsical atmosphere with a gorgeous outdoor area to eat your ice cream under the stars.
google avatar

Alexandra Y.

Yelp
This place is just pretty average. I think it's overhyped for what it is. The Brambleberry crisp really didn't have that much flavor but the gooey butter cake was delicious. Definitely take advantage of sampling a few. This location is super cute so that's a plus
google avatar

Krupa S.

Yelp
Love the flavors here. The lavender ice cream with the dark chocolate go so well together. Again, being from CA, we have our fair share of delicious ice cream, this place is one of my favorites. Also got the pistachio macaron pint and it was so good!! Definitely here frequently over the summer months!
google avatar

Evelyn J.

Yelp
Anyone visiting Chicago needs to try Jeni's ice cream. It's the best ice cream in town. There's always a line to order but worth the wait. They have many flavors to choose from. You can enjoy your ice cream while you walk the beautiful streets of Chicago.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Came by here while we were just walking around Chicago exploring and thankfully we stopped by. We loved the location with the park as well. Walked and saw all the amazing flavors they had and wow there was too many to choose from. I like it how they let you choose two ice creams for a cup. We were able to try four flavors which each one was delicious and amazing. The Staff here is very nice and courteous and we told them we will be back and gladly we did. Came here the very next day lol
google avatar

Blake M.

Yelp
For $15 for two ice creams it needs to be special and Spectacular. It's not. Everyone who works there is friendly. This is zero reflection of the staff. It's a reflection of product. Which is average and over priced. Listeria outbreak they had is at least under control finally after a few years.
google avatar

Kaelyn R.

Yelp
Visiting Chicago and my friend took me to this spot! We both a scoop of the brambleberry crisp and I tried another scoop of the lavender. The lavender was not too overpowering or soapy like most artificial flavorings and was subtly sweet. Seems like this was one of the newer locations in the city and despite the cold there was still a line out the door.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
I knew I was in a great place for ice cream the second I opened the doors and smelled the waffle cones being made! The service here was fantastic and each employee was willingly to let me try multiple flavors. My three flavors were bombastix sundae cone, wedding cake and gooey butter cake. All three flavors were very good but the gooey butter cake was the standout. I really enjoyed the unique flavors Jeni's offered. I can't wait to return.
google avatar

Dante M.

Yelp
After dinner in the city, we decided to stop by Jeni's because my brother had never been there before! I first tried it in Philly, then in Pittsburgh, and now I had to take my brother here because of how much I loved it! We decided to split a triple scoop of biscuits with the boss (their Ted Lasso inspired), the ooey gooey (one of my staples), and the bramble berry crips (my all time favorite)! It was delicious, and my brother loved their ice cream as well! He was already talking about going back the next time I was in town!
google avatar

Karla M.

Yelp
Probably one of the best ice creams I've ever had. Just like their napkins say, you can really tell that they put in so much work into crafting unique and delicious flavors. Each bite/lick melts in your mouth and leaves a lasting taste making you want more. As you walk towards the store, you get hit with the sweet smell of their waffle cones. They're light and sweet but also have a hint of saltiness. I really do like that they let you try any flavor you'd like before you make a decision on which one you'd like for a full scoop. It assures you that you won't regret the flavor you get. I also like that you can pick up to two flavors for the standard size. It ends up being two small scoops which is just enough. I ultimately went with gooey and because of their strong creamy and caramel flavors. I did enjoy the rainbow because of its passionfruit taste and tangy aftertaste but I prefer creamy rather than fruity ice cream flavors.
google avatar

Shervani P.

Yelp
Love a good Jeni's visit! This new location in Connors Park is so cute and perfect for a summer treat. I got one of their seasonal flavors Golden Nectar with the classic Brambleberry Crisp. They were sadly out of my favorite Wildberry Lavender, but just a reason to visit again soon! Highly recommend treating yourself to Jeni's to try some of their unique flavors!
google avatar

Tanya V.

Yelp
Cute place in DT Chicago ....great choices -my girls loved it. So did my grand. Big servings
google avatar

Claire L.

Yelp
Finally! Jeni's has opened a location in the Gold Coast/Streeterville area, in the middle of Connors Park. I love the boutique feel of the new shop, and it's great having this so close by. There are so many different flavors (I tried the cold brew coconut cream and darkest chocolate flavors), and you can get them in a freshly made waffle cone or bowl. Will definitely be back to try more!
google avatar

Tony S.

Yelp
Awesome ice cream!!! The highest quality. But you will pay for it. Worth it? Mos Def!
google avatar

Faith H.

Yelp
Omg the best. Obviously Jeni's is one of the best ice cream places ever but this location is so stinkin cute. The whole place is like a little bubble and the set up is just adorable. I had no idea they sold stuff like bags, spoons, sprinkles, etc. The person that helped my friend and I when we went, Adam, is also amazing. He was so patient as he let me and my friend try like 10 samples of the ice cream because I was so indecisive. He was even encouraging letting me know it's okay to try them since he wants the customers to get the ice cream they like best. WHAT A SWEET GUY! I really believe businesses succeed when they have good workers and already great places like Jeni's is made better by great people like Adam.
google avatar

Emma M.

Yelp
Genuinely the best ice cream I have ever had. I ordered a scoop of the Sweet Potato Marshmallow Brûlée and a scoop of the Boston Creme Pie and both were to die for! I wish I could take this place home with me.
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
The vanilla honey ice cream was delish. The waffle cone has a distinct saltiness that balanced out the sweet ice cream. Be prepared to bring a hoodie or sweater if you're sitting inside as the AC is too cold. Have a friend save a seat while you line up for ice cream. I would have taken a photo of my dessert if I didn't scarf it down so quickly.
google avatar

Himadri V.

Yelp
A boon for everyone! They have vegan options too and by the way, they are as good as the dairy options. If you are a chocolate lover, their darkest chocolate is absolutely unbeatable! The vegan version is Texas sheetcake which contains brownie pieces. So good!
google avatar

Deb D.

Yelp
Awesome ice cream in a cute and walkable area of the city. I love visiting the different Jeni's locations around the city. This new location has been a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The ice cream is off the charts amazing, and the ample outdoor seating is perfect on a warm day. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
Really pretty and nice place. Delicious ice cream. I would say the inside is quite small but it's nicely designed and the line was pretty short on a weekday evening. Service was really good too I'd say they work efficientlyZ
google avatar

Aditi K.

Yelp
Very tasty ice cream. We tried the chocolate flavor pint. Very soft and creamy in texture.
google avatar

Tyler T.

Yelp
Average at best. Hopes where really high and we went way out of the way to try this.
google avatar

Viki H.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly and the ice cream was amazing! They let you try any of them and their special (three half scoops) is perfect for trying new flavors or enjoying your favs! Reasonably priced, and a very cute shop.
