Joe Biden’s Campaign Spent Over $10,000 on Ice Cream | Eater

"An upscale artisanal ice cream company credited with pushing premium pricing past the $10-per-pint mark and known for adventurous flavors like sweet curry, basil honey pine nut, and salted caramel. The company's James Beard Award–winning founder, Jeni Britton Bauer, is a prominent supporter of the Democratic nominee and hosted the then-vice president at its Columbus, Ohio headquarters in 2016 for a press conference about wages. During the current campaign, the presumptive nominee has spent more than $10,000 on its ice cream—mostly in $70–$77 increments that suggest about five pints per order—to distribute as FEC-allowed, nominal-value gifts to donors. Its Ohio roots and high-end image, plus high-profile political fans, have helped make it both a foodie icon and a small talking point in swing-state politics." - Caleb Pershan

How Did Ice Cream Get So Expensive? | Eater

"An originator of the ultra-premium movement whose early Columbus, Ohio shop introduced inventive, chef-driven flavors (Sweet Curry, Basil Honey Pine Nut, El Rey single-origin chocolate, Salty Caramel) and helped normalize $10+ pints; the company emphasizes flavor-driven craftsmanship, has pursued dairy and pasteurization control at times, is certified as a B-Corp, and prices specialty flavors higher while experimenting with tiered pricing." - Charlotte Druckman

Google
Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams in the Short North is a must-stop for anyone craving unique and delicious ice cream. What really stood out during my visit was the exceptional service. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making the sampling process a joy. They offered generous samples, answered questions with enthusiasm, and provided thoughtful recommendations. Their patience and genuine warmth created a welcoming atmosphere, making it easy to navigate all the flavors. While Jeni's is known for its ice cream, the positive and attentive service from the staff truly elevated the experience.

Google
One thing about me is if I’m in a state that has a Jeni’s, I will make it a point to stop by. It’s a must. I always get my almond brittle butter ice cream and it never disappoints. The flavor is rich and creamy, with that sweet and slightly nutty crunch that makes it unforgettable. And their waffle cone? Absolute perfection! It’s crisp, buttery, and the perfect match for their ice cream. I’ve loved Jeni’s for years, and every visit reminds me why. The quality is always consistent, the flavors are creative and bold, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. Whether it’s a quick treat on a hot day or a little indulgence after dinner, Jeni’s always hits the spot. This is one of those places I’ll keep coming back to, no matter where I am.

Google
First time in Columbus, OH and I was advised to stop by Jeni's for ice cream. This was the best suggestion. This place had great customer service and a variety of ice cream to pick from. Jeni's even lets you sample every ice cream they have with no pressure to buy any. If you're near a Jeni's ice cream, definitely stop by and grab some

Google
So many choices for ice cream. Very nice delicious flavors. Staff seemed extremely knowledgeable about the descriptions of each flavor. I was disappointed that they only offered ice cream cones and bowls. No other type of desserts like shakes exedra. There is a bathroom there you can use. We were very pleased that they had free tap water available in the dining room. That was super helpful since we had been walking around outside in the heat for 3 hours downtown. As expected, the prices were extremely high.

My husband and I stopped in Columbus on the way to Southern Ohio. I was really wanting to find some good dairy and citrus free ice cream as I have some severe allergies. Emma answered all my questions. She pulled out the ingredients binder and walked me through everything from the cooking spray to the cone to the ice cream. She then grabbed a fresh unopened tub so that I didn't have to worry about cross contamination. She washed her hands several times and wore gloves. Her attention to detail was wonderful. The Texas Sheet Cake Dairy Free ice cream was delicious! My husband had Buttercream Birthday cake and loved it! All this to say, if we ever find ourselves back in Columbus, we will definitely be back for more!

Google
The homemade waffle cones are fantastic. Unique, delicious ice-cream flavors! I got the gooey butter cake—it was full of delicious chunks of cake.

Google
Unique flavors that somehow just work! We had had pints of Jeni’s from the grocery store but were thrilled for the opportunity to try ice cream from the scoop shop itself and we were not disappointed! We shared the ice cream flight which comes with 10 scoops of 10 different flavors and waffle cone pieces on the side. Each flavor was unique and offered something different. My favorite was the “everything bagel” which was a savory ice cream and very different from anything I’d had before. My wife’s favorite was the honey vanilla bean. All the ice creams were soft, creamy and not overly sweet. Some of the best ice cream we’ve had! Hope to see them open a shop in Kansas City someday!

Google
Jeni's ice cream is always top tier but I want to shine a spotlight on an employee. Rhen was amazing. I was having a lot of anxiety because it was a hot weekend and there was a lot of people. Rhen was very nice and patient. It was really nice to not feel like I was being shuffled through. Their customer service was on point. Thanks for a great experience!

Yelp
Service was super friendly and welcoming. And the ambiance is your typical neighborhood ice cream shop, super inviting and nostalgic. I needed some caffeine and was in the mood for some ice cream after failing two exams back to back, so I found myself at jeni's ordering an affogato. The fine folks at jeni's usually recommend you get the affogato with the brown butter almond brittle, and who am I to say otherwise. They poured maybe 3-4 oz of dark, concentrated cold brew over two scoops of ice cream and off I went to my precariously parked car to scarf it down. Initially I thought that the ratio of ice cream to coffee was a little too much and I thought it would have been better with espresso as opposed to cold brew but I ate a spoonful and it all made sense. The smoothness and slight bitterness of the cold brew played perfectly with the ice cream and there were bits of almonds and brittle in every bite to add textural variation. At the end you're left with this nice little latte situation to top it off. Super fun and interesting experience, would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and I love the "standard" which is 2 small scoops of 2 flavors for 6.50 that is not California prices and it keeps me coming back each day for more! The salted peanut butter and goey cake together was delightful. Service was fast and friendly and felt bubbly and fun just like the interior of this shop. Loved every minute and every bite

Yelp
This is such a fun spot to go to. They have some of the most unique ice cream flavors I've seen with combinations that work really well together. The staff was super friendly and patient with me as I asked questions about the flavors and tasted multiple. My favorite I tried was the brambleberry crisp. I loved the textures and fruit flavor mixed into the ice cream. I sat on the patio and it felt like I was almost at the beach. I enjoyed the decor they had as well as the ample seating area outside. I will definitely be back here when I make another Mason trip.
google avatar

Ranjitha A.

Yelp
Ordered peanut butter flavored icecream and it was amazingly. Service was good. Ambiance was lovely and cute. Will definitely recommend it to my friends.
google avatar

Yelp
We came on a Saturday afternoon and the line was pretty long but it went by quickly. The servers were super nice and offered samples even though there was a line. Flavors were amazing as always, especially the tropical bloom (spring flavor). There isn't any seating next to the stand but there is plenty of comfortable seating upstairs of Short North market.
google avatar

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
Amazing selection of gourmet ice creams. They advertise their cookie dough as some of their best ice cream and I have to agree. Creamy and full of cookie dough - some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Lovely seating area in the back where we enjoyed our ice cream. Great service. Ask to taste flavors before you select your ice cream. They have small tasting spoons. 5/5. Will be back! Thanks for having me.
google avatar

Jacqueline D.

Yelp
So many creative flavors so little time! I sampled at least 4-5 flavors before I decided to get a signature bowl that allows you to get 3. The shop was completely empty when I came in so service was quick. Pretty straight forward, nothing that stood out but no complaints.
google avatar

Peter T.

Yelp
Have had Jenis many times it it never fails. My usual favorites are the Brambleberry Crisp, Coffee with Cream and Sugar, and the Wildberry Lavendar. Today I got two scoops, which contains one of my favorites - Bramberry Crisp, and a new flavor - Bastani Sonnati. The new flavor is basically a balance of saffron, rose water, and pistachio. Not a super strong taste, but still refreshing! Service is always great as they ask you what flavors you would like to try.
google avatar

Eve R.

Yelp
Such a cute location. Walked around the SN and atopped in to try the new special with Bastani Sonnati, Brambleberry crisp, and brown butter almond brickle in a waffle cup. Chef's kiss of complimentary flavors! Staff was super friendly and helpful despite the long line. Everything was working smoothly and with kindness!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
SO GOOD! I loved every bite of this icecream and cone! Definitely higher price tag but a perfect treat! Loved the coffee flavour.

Jane S.

Yelp
Charlie in short north jenis is awesome!!! I went in with friends not going to get anything and he made all the flavors sound so good I left with two pints
google avatar

Jess F.

Yelp
Walked in on a random Wednesday in February with a group of 10. They were so nice to us, didn't rush, and let us sample any kids we wanted. Great selection and service. I really liked that they would do 1/2 scoops.
google avatar

Rochelle J.

Yelp
Amazing vegan ice cream! I had the lemon bar ice cream and it was just like the dessert as it's named after. So creamy so lemony and just to write amount of sweetness. I would definitely return to this place when I get back here.
google avatar

Sarah H.

Yelp
GF, Dairy Free, and Vegan options. Quality and simple ingredients. Nice portions for price!
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
Came in here today with my wife and mother-in-law to get some ice cream and had an amazing time! If you're like me and the other 99% of Americans who love ice cream, you NEED to try Jeni's ice cream. I've had plenty of ice cream in the past and this is definitely the best I've ever had. The staff was super friendly and environment was so welcoming. The only downside was that there was nowhere to park and my father-in-law had to stay in the car while we ran in. Definitely come to this location when you're in the area next!
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Can't say enough about the overall quality and selection of flavors. Do yourself a flavor, and if in the area stop. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
Overall a good place to get ice cream. I like that they use local partners for their coffee. The flavors are quite unconventional and portions are small but I like the decor and atmosphere. Service was good, it was refreshing in this day and age to be greeted by someone that enjoys their job. The waffle bowl was a nice addition but tasted again a little unconventional, like salted caramel, which personally isn't my preference but was still good.
google avatar

Yelp
I always make a trip to Jeni's whenever I'm back in Ohio because it's my absolute favorite ice cream. We had a chance to try two of their limited flavors boozy eggnog and white chocolate peppermint in a waffle cone bowl. The bowl became a little hard to eat at the end so I would recommend just getting a waffle cone wedge. All of their flavors are great and you truly can't go wrong with any of them. Some of my favorites being gooey butter cake and brambleberry crisp They have some other locations through out the Midwest as well and would highly recommend making a trip if you're near a location.
google avatar

Joanne T.

Yelp
So happy Jeni's has fun dairy-free ice cream. The Texas sheet cake is rich and you can't even tell it is dairy-free. Friendly service and clean establishment.
google avatar

Samantha K.

Yelp
Jeni's is easily the best ice cream spot in Columbus! The aroma alone makes it nearly impossible to not stop in when walking down the street. It's always fun sampling the unique flavors, and nearly impossible to pick when it comes time to order. Today I went with Gooey Butter Cake and Brambleberry Crisp which were both decadent, creamy, and delicious. I love how the cups come with a waffle cone piece, too.
google avatar

Macey T.

Yelp
Jeni's has to be my favorite ice cream place around. They have a wide variety of flavors that are exchanged and switched around by season. I like this factor, I can always try something new. They allow you to sample flavors and the prices are decent. Staff is so helpful and always friendly!
google avatar

Angie M.

Yelp
Get the flight. Get the sodi pop. Don't question the dinosaurs you may see snacking on ice cream the day before Halloween.
google avatar

Tien L.

Yelp
I was in Columbus for three days for a conference and I came to Jeni's at least once a day. I tried several of their flavors and each one was divine. Jeni's has the waffle bowl which I have never seen before. Game changer. Ice cream will never be the same again.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
After dinner at Lincoln Social Rooftop, my family and I went to Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream in Short North. The wait wasn't too bad. My parents shared a bowl of Honey Vanilla Bean and Frose. My brother enjoyed Honey Vanilla Bean on a Waffle Cone. My sister in law enjoyed Salted Licorice. I enjoyed a bowl of Wildberry Lavender and Frose.
google avatar

Ivan S.

Yelp
Jeni's is high quaintly ice cream with amazing flavor options! Highly recommend visiting Jeni's when you can
google avatar

Yuk L.

Yelp
Let's see three visits in two days. I am a fan. I was stoked that this shop was a short walk from my hotel. I've been a fan from as far as Boston when my friend found Jeni's Brambleberry Crisp in a specialty food store.
google avatar

Emma J.

Yelp
Jeni's is my favorite ice cream shop. This location has a great selection to have scooped there or to take pints home. There are plenty of places to stop for food or shopping in Short North, and there's a good amount of parking too. Brambleberry crisp and Brown butter almond brittle are my classic order, they never disappoint!
google avatar

Darren W.

Yelp
Great late night snack and stopped by because who says no to ice cream? Nice location situated in Short North, friendly team members, light and refreshing flavors, and all the samples you want... Don't go too crazy! Went with a single order, or up to 2 flavors, of Honey Vanilla Bean and limited edition Wedding Cake. It was a masterful combination with both flavors and even included 2 free pieces of waffle cone. Visiting a physical Jeni's location is a must when in Columbus, and you get to learn about its ice cream while snacking on it.
google avatar

Gregory G.

Yelp
Very good, love the ice cream and the options for people that like the fruitier ice cream flavors. Good environment and nice people. I'd say with no competition around they should maybe bring a couple more sherbet flavors but thats coming from someone that's not as crazy about the typical flavors of ice cream. My wife loved hers and I thought hers was great too. Hard to create boundaries for customers but they also act a little strange here, just seems like they don't think they'll have time to look while ordering or something lol.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Jeni's is premium ice cream, rich with flavor. They are now allowing you to come inside to order (previously, you had to order by the window due to the pandemic) but still currently no seating. This may change shortly as they do have seating in the back, and restrictions are loosening up. I've tried most all flavors and will say that many are very RICH. The Texas sheet cake ice cream is potently chocolate. My favorites are the gooey butter cake, brown butter almond brittle, and salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks. The first two are very sweet, and the peanut butter is more mild. I typically get a waffle cone when I come in. Note that they are made in store and have a strong butter flavor to them. They're unlike most any waffle cones I have had. They also offer birthday cones. So, go and enjoy a scoop on your special day if you're nearby!
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Yallllll this ice cream is bussssin'!!!! They ain't playing no games here! Do you need to go after pay day because it's so expensive? Yes Should you care? No. This is the definition of treat yo' self! They have fun unique flavors and I promise you if you try their ooey gooey butter cake flavor on their homemade Waffle cone you will have an out of body experience.
google avatar

Jayme H.

Yelp
Ice cream is my comfort food, the one item in my fridge I always grab for. Whether I'm happy, or stressed, or trying to survive a pandemic... it's always there. Better yet, this location of Jeni's Ice Cream has always BEEN THERE! Between the pint of peanut butter and chocolate flecks that was delivered to help me get through a crazy presidential debate, to the wildberry lavender scoops I randomly grab while on long walks down High St., I know I can count on Jeni's when I need it the most. Especially in this somewhat alternate universe, that is 2020! While I'm always eager to spread the word on Jeni's, I'm here updating this review to share with you all the updates they've made to help keep you safe and healthy. For starters, the experience is one hundred percent contactless. You actually never step foot in the scoop shop. They have a plastic barrier set up at the door and this is where you will order and pay for your treat. As always, the personality of the staff is hard to miss. Their positivity, lively spirit, and love for ice cream is still clearly evident. They are happy to serve ice cream and spread smiles. You pick your ice cream order up around the corner at the entrance on Lincoln St. It's actually the cutest thing ever. They made a little window-like structure to keep things safe. From that point, enjoy! While samples are a no-go and the shop is off limits for now, the experience is still splendid. The ice cream is also as good as ever and you can't go wrong with any flavor. For me, if I could give Jeni's a sixth star, I would. Anytime a company's values align with my own AND they have insanely high quality products that taste this good, I'll gladly give them my money.

Yelp
First time at Jeni's and it was spectacular! Love the vanilla honey and the staff was outstanding with recommendations and allowing us to sample! Enjoyed our ice cream to go back in our hotel.
google avatar

Adam K.

Yelp
Really cute layout, clean and simple. Service was good took a little bit because they have such unique flavors that you have to try them. They are all good and they are very generous to allow you to try whatever you ask.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
Amazing as always! This was our first time trying this location and they could not have been more friendly. It is small but has some seating options. We tried the flight. (See pics). It was 10 different flavors of ice cream for $20, which hubby and I split. They were out of two flavors, which we swapped out for strawberry and some other (nutty flavored ice cream). My personal favorites were the dark chocolate and berry lavender. I love rich, in-your-face flavors and both of these are like that. They have some lighter flavored ice creams too like their honey vanilla. My hubby really liked the rainbow flavored ice cream, which was really fruity. The PB with chocolate flakes was also REALLY good. We really liked ALL the flavors and we love that Jeni's always has unique flavors and a wide variety. We love Jeni's Ice Cream and will definitely be back!
google avatar

Ya Y.

Yelp
I can't help to try this limited time release flavor - everything bagel. It definitely tasted like the everything bagel. Very interesting and unique. I also got the gooey butter cake one, and I think I still prefer sweet ice cream more haha. But they were all very tasty!
google avatar

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Some work colleagues gifted me a 3-month subscription to the Pint Club and my quick reaction is... wow! I hadn't heard of Jeni's before which was likely one of the reasons they chose it. I love ice cream and I've tried premium ice cream all of the US. Jeni's ranks. Jeni's packages the ice cream so well that it arrived still frozen even though FedEx delayed it for three days. And I live in CA so it's not like they could rely on cold weather. Oh, and they shipped real spoons to eat it with. Major props. Of course, you're here to read about the ice cream... Brandied Banana Brûlée: Jeni's calls it as banana foster mixed with creme brûlée and that's a perfect description. Clearly made with real bananas and not the flavoring that most places do. To top it off, there's apple brandy added. Phenomenal. 94 points. Buttercream Birthday Cake: Buttercream ice cream with sponge cake pieces and blue + pink funfetti sprinkles. It really does taste like birthday cake. I'm not a buttercream fan so this was my least fav BUT... my wife loved this and it was her favorite. 80 points (without the spousal override). Brown Butter Almond Brittle: Buttercream ice cream with pockets of almond brittle. It's sweet, salty, and crunchy all at the same time. Remember how I said I didn't like buttercream? Umm, this changes my mind. 86 points. Blackout Chocolate Cake: The inner lining says OMFG. 'Nuff said? Chocolate cake pieces with fudge AND chocolate chips in dark chocolate ice cream. Dense and rich but not too sweet. As chocolate should be. 93 points. Coffee With Cream & Sugar: One of the few coffee ice creams I've ever had which smelled & tasted like good coffee. That's because they steep coffee grounds directly into the cream, instead of just adding coffee concentrate or flavoring. 92 points. Goat Cheese With Red Cherry: Likely the most surprising of the 12 flavors I tried. This is like a cherry cheesecake -- a really good cheesecake but the cherries are off. There's not enough of them and they don't have enough tartness. I would really like to the goat cheese base with some other fruit. 86 points. I had 6 more flavors which varied from amazing to just ok. Jeni's ice cream is pricy but, except for the occasional miss, top notch.

Yelp
Great service and even better ice cream! Loved getting three small scoops was definitely a great treat

Yelp
A must stop! Ice cream is relevant any time of the year, especially at Jeni's. Unique ice cream flavors that are smooth and refreshing. I went with one kiddy scoop of brambleberry crisp and one kiddy scoop of gooey butter cake. I got a cup and was pleasantly surprised to see you also get a complimentary corner of a cone. Perfect addition with the ice cream. The ice cream was creamy and fresh. You could taste all the flavors and all the textures in the ice cream. Price was about $5 plus tax - so a little pricey but the quality is great. Staff were friendly and efficient. I asked for about 3 different samples - the worker did not seemed annoyed and gladly gave me samples to try. I also love the metal sample spoons - much more eco friendly! There is a seating area in the back of the store to enjoy your ice cream. A long community style table, bench, and bar top seating. I also love the provided water cooler - always need water to wash down ice cream. Tips - 1) Get two kiddy scoops to equal a single scoop. I was able to get two different flavors at a smaller portion size. 2) try as many samples as you like - no shame!

Yelp
Delicious Not too sweet I ordered chocolate and wildberry lavender Everything have their own favor Love it
google avatar

Yelp
On a chilly night there is nothing better than some delicious ice cream! Not only was the ice cream creamy and delicious the flavors were immaculate! A lot if the time pumpkin flavor ice cream can taste artificial but this was just like taking a bite of pumpkin cake. The brown butter almond brittle change my life outlook on brittle. Usually I'm not a fan because it gets stuck in your teeth but after the taster I had to have more. The brown butter based compliments the nutty flavor of the almond brittle and omg it is happiness in your mouth. Highly recommend making a stop here for a sweet treat!
google avatar

Andrea U.

Yelp
The flavors look obscene & our scoops were so delicious. There was a line outside & a line to get a seat. It was is difficult everything looked so good; unfortunate we couldn't sample anything today. The shop was beautifully decorated and they even had gift cookbooks and syrups for sale. This is the original and now it's a chain.
google avatar

Mallory H.

Yelp
One of my fav ice cream spots in Columbus!! A lot of people complain about it being too expensive and small portions but I think the portions are perfect! You get what you want without leaving grossly full. The flavors always hit!! Gooey butter cake is my personal fav
google avatar

Arah K.

Yelp
Jeni's is the best I've cream I've had in the Columbus area. While you can sometimes find their pints of Wildberry Crisp and other flavors and local groceries, this Short North location is not to be missed for their delightful waffle cones that you can smell all the way down high street! I recommend their more experimental flavors - cherry and cheese was incredible - as well as their vegan options which were wonderfully inclusive for my food allergic friends.
google avatar

Christy P.

Yelp
I should have written this review a long time ago because now I forgot which flavors I got. One was a seasonal and the other they have a lot. I remember both being so yummy. I couldn't stop eating even though it was cold outside. I had the two half scoops and a waffle cone. Next time I'm back in town I'll definitely come back! So good!
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
There are few times in life where the ice cream takes you from one dream to the next begging you to come back ...and try something new! ..Imma stick with the usual kind of gal when it comes to ice cream; I enjoy the vanilla cone dipped in cherry at DQ and Black Rasberry chip at Graeters buuuuutttttt at Jeni's I LOVE the brambleberry crisp, darkest chocolate, Cherry, salted caramel, coffee, ..are you getting the picture here?!! Once I brought friends here from Australia visiting. Naturally they asked which is my favorite.. I couldn't decide, so they said "guess we'll just have to try them all then".. and we did! (It was a slower night). They have the most unusual flavors and mixes that all make sense and don't bring about confusion. Ice cream should never confuse you. Each location used to offer different flavors now with everything going on in our world I'm not so sure. Be prepared for waiting!! There is always some sort of line so be ready! It'll be worth it if it's your first time or just passing by. Follow them online she just did a very limited Dolly Parton ice cream launch this summer. Sold out within seconds. Cotton Candy was apart of it. Summer. Rain. Fall. Winter. Spring. Ice cream is good for the soul all year round.

Lexie C.

Yelp
Overall the ice cream was amazing. So many different options. Upon arrival I was very overwhelmed since never going before and the line was decent size but moving quickly. The staff rushed me (understandably just trying to get through the line) but I felt like I didn't really get to fully appreciate the experience or flavors. Overall a nice location but not worth eating there. Just take it to go.

Yelp
I've heard of Jeni's before because I've watched several YouTubers who have advertised their products, but I didn't know it originated from Columbus. I made sure that I had to visit a Jeni's location while in town and boy was that one of my best decisions of the year. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is without a doubt the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. I got to sample multiple flavors, too many to recall, thanks to the friendly worker behind the counter. I decided that a scoop of ooey gooey butter cake would be the perfect way to end my long day of traveling. The best way to describe the flavor is pure euphoria. It felt like I had won the lottery for my taste buds. I've never had an actual slice of ooey gooey butter cake, but I already have my doubts that it can't beat this ice cream. I just remembered that Whole Foods sells Jeni's ice cream so i'm going to end this review here and go satisfy my craving!

Yelp
Always a must stop when you pass a Jeni's! The ice cream is so delicious and tasty. Even got a waffle cone to eat my ice cream with.
