This shop was my first experience with Jeni’s Ice Cream and by far the gold standard for a wonderful scoop experience. There’s a ton of unique flavors, every one of them as intense and creamy as the last. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly, eager to give tastes so you can find your new favorite. My go to is a regular size Sea Salt Caramel and Salted Peanut Butter on a waffle cone, and holy cow it’s good. There’s a few benches outside, a counter with stools on the first floor, and a whole second floor of tables and chairs. It’s an absolute must to give it a try.

I stopped by Jeni’s earlier this week, and it was perfect timing for some ice cream with this hot weather we’ve been having! Honestly, I’m surprised I haven’t stumbled across this location sooner since I used to work right up the street off of 14th St. Anyway, I digress. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with the BEAUTIFUL aroma of freshly made waffle cones! Apparently, the waffle cones and bowls are made in-house daily, which adds a nice touch of freshness. The workers were truly amazing! They were super friendly and let me sample a few flavors before making my final decision. I opted for two seasonal flavors: the Burnt Orange Creamsicle and the Double Dough in a waffle bowl. The place was very clean, and the vibes were beautiful. The interior had a charming and welcoming atmosphere that made the whole experience even better. Honestly, this is top-tier ice cream. The flavors were packed with intensity, and it has a quality that resembles Ben and Jerry’s but is somehow WAY better! The Burnt Orange Creamsicle had a perfect balance of citrus and creaminess, while the Double Dough was an indulgent delight with chunks of cookie dough. I will definitely be coming back very soon! If you haven’t checked out Jeni’s yet, you’re missing out on some seriously amazing ice cream.

Of all the ice cream places I've been, I think this is the best I've had, at least in North America. That's all I can say. Service is good although there was a line and I assume there is always a line. Place was a fun atmosphere, perfect for ice cream. There is seating up stairs but we did not take advantage of it.

Not so standard 3 "half" scoops.. sooo BIG!! Snow Cone, one of the hot summer spins collection, is so refreshing, a twist of blue brambleberry, watermelon, and pink lemonade sorbets. Grambleberry Crisp and Wildberry Lavender on a buttercrisp cone. It was a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Very friendly staff, and I love the sitting area on the second floor. You can find dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan options as well. This is my happy place!

Really tasty ice cream with incredibly creative flavors and combinations. Their burnt orange and their berry crumble are some of the tastiest ice creams I've ever had. They move through lines quickly and there's a nice seating area upstairs that usually has a couple open seats. Only downside is that it's pretty expensive -- $8 for just 1 medium sized scoop. Even for DC that's pretty bad. Definitely worth trying though!

Jeni's has become less than Splendid over the years. I first went to Jeni's in Chicago about 6 or so years ago. I remember being so impressed by the innovative flavors and delicious cones, but now paying $8 for overly sweet ice cream just isn't my jam. The location was great, they had plenty of seating both downstairs and upstairs. I appreciated the free water (which was needed due to cleanse the palate from the sugar). As for their flavors they still have the classics, darkest chocolate and brambleberry crisp were always my favorites. However, the brambleberry wasn't as tart as I remember and they skimped on the crisp. I tried some of their innovative flavors like sweet potato marshmallow praline (classic thanksgiving flavor) and bay leaf cheesecake (inventive but gross tbh); and just one taste was enough I can't image eating a whole scoop. My sister got the gooey butter cake, which was a little too gooey. The employee couldn't really scoop it; I'm not sure if it had gotten too warm but it was basically soup. I'm surprised he even served it to us... Overall, I hate to say it but Jeni's has gotten too commercial for my liking. Probs will avoid this place in favor of a local spot where possible!

For a very busy location on U Street, this Jeni's knows how to MOVE. The service was sooooo quick. I loved all the seating upstairs and outside. The Bastani sonnati tasted like India - saffron, rose, and pistachio! I don't even like pistachio but this was delish. The supermoon tasted just like cereal milk!

I've been to Jeni's a few times and I also get their pints at the grocery store. Jeni's makes excellent, super premium ice cream. I'm a big Ben & Jerry's fan, but I have to admit that Jeni's tastes richer, creamier, and more premium. And it is definitely better than another well known DC ice cream shop. On my recent visit, I got three flavors: Double Dough, Brown Butter Almond Brittle, and Gooey Butter Cake. Double Dough has chocolate chip cookie dough swirled into a buttery brown sugar custard. Normally, I'm not a big fan of cookie dough ice cream because I find the vanilla base boring and the chunks too infrequent. I was a big fan of this flavor because of the brown sugar custard base and soft chunks. Almond Brittle had brown butter almond candy crushed into buttercream ice cream. It was good and tasted true to its description. Gooey Butter Cake is a classic Jeni's flavor and has cream cheese ice cream layered with crumbles of vanilla cake and a swirl of caramel-butterscotch sauce. It's an amazing flavor. Service was good but it was little hard to understand my server. I visited in the evening and it seems they ran out of some flavors, so there was less variety than I expected.

Being my 1st time ever having Jeni's, I was able to sample the 1s that I wanted in my waffle bowl so that was a +plus+. This is a small shop. It wasn't too busy which I personally liked because if there is too large of a crowd then I'll bypass an establishment because of that. I have never been a large crowd person. I could smell the ice cream when we pulled up to park the vehicle. That ice cream was absolutely mouth-watering delicious! Highly recommended! 5 Stars. Ugh, Jeni's is just SO good. Every time I go, I never cease to be impressed by the creativity and quality behind their flavors. I love that there's so many seasonal options and that they let you taste flavors before buying. Some of my faves are Boston cream pie, salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks, and gooey butter cake. While the line is often to the door, service is pretty quick. There's some cute seating upstairs and a bench or two outside, or you can walk around and window shop while eating your scoops.

They serve quality ice cream in a variety of unique flavors - arguably one of the best in the District! The 14th street location was beautifully decorated in the style of their new Punk Stargonaut flavors collection. Loved the vividly colored balloons that complimented the white brick interior! My personal favorite Jeni's flavor is the Darkest Chocolate, a smooth dark chocolate blend packed with fair trade cocoa. If you are a chocolate lover, Darkest will be the flavor for you! My friend and I split a waffle cone trio and got it with Darkest Chocolate, Fluffernutter Pie (Peanut Butter, Vanilla Marshmallow, and Oat Pie Crust Pieces), and Brambleberry Crisp (Oat Streusel and Brambleberry Crisp). I applauded my friend for choosing such a great trio of flavors! This was a lovely blend of chocolate, fruity jams, and solid crust/crisp pieces woven perfectly in a high-quality vanilla ice cream. Delectable! The service at Jeni's has always been so positive in my experience! Their staff is always so kind and are very helpful if you want to sample any of their flavors. If you are in need of a post-dinner sweet treat or late night snack, look no further!

Ice cream is so rich and delicious. Luckily we got in just before a very long line formed. They allowed us to try a few different flavors before committing to the 3 I selected: Darkest Chocolate, Wildberry Lavender and Coffee with Cream and Sugar. The ice cream was SO GOOD! Jeni's never misses. The END! No seriously, this is my favorite ice cream place in all of DC/VA. I almost can't help myself but to stop by if I'm in the area. I came here on a date with a friend who had never had Jeni's before and absolutely was sleeping on their waffle cones! This location is frequently packed because it's right next to the popular U Street. We had to wait in a long, but fast moving line. I already knew what I wanted and ordered. I ordered a regular bowl with waffle cone of Jeni's Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream. This flavor is impeccable, can't be beat! My friend got a kids scoop. In reality, I needed a kids scoop. It was soo much ice cream and it is VERY sweet. I finished mine out of pure gluttony. Afterwards I sat in my shame LOL. I will absolutely go back and i will probably remember I only need a kids scoop. Lastly, seating is always a little scarce at Jeni's but people typically depart from their seats when finished with their ice cream so others can sit.

So came in for ice cream and workers ignored me. Was the only customer and they both walked out. Only the one worker even asked why I was taking pictures, really!! It is called yelp. So the guy filling out paperwork just walked past me to the back and then the girl just went to the back and looked through the window in the door. Weird people here. One word: DIVINE Jeni's is probably one of the best once cream places I've ever been to! The ice cream itself is DELICIOUS. Silky smooth, creamy, flavorful with a fragrant aroma, and it doesn't have any ice particles or taste overly artificial. The flavors here are pretty unique. I tried 5 flavors (all delicious) and had such a hard time choosing. Ultimately went with the pineapple upside down cake (so good and goey with cake pieces and cherries ) and the goey butter cake batter (also amazing, packed with flavor, and has butter cake pieces in it ). Truly one of the best ice creams I've ever had. My only complaint is that the ice cream tasted slightly salty which I wasn't a huge fan of. Apart from the ice cream, the decor here is so cute and "instagrammable". The seating is spacious and airy with real plants and interesting photos to browse.

The quality of the ice cream is fabulous-I love the Butter Cake, Chocolate Blackout, and Texas Sheet Cake. However, my main complaint with Jeni's is that literally over half of the menu is only available as a pint-doesn't that defeat the purpose of a scoop shop? I also feel like the shops would benefit by having some toppings (hot fudge, brownies, etc) as if they're going to have such limited flavors, may as well be able to jazz it up a little! Overall, fabulous ice cream, not so fabulous options. Please make more flavors available by the scoop!

The staff here are absolutely lovely! Super welcoming and quick with orders, the store was clean and had a cute black and white 60s theme. I got a single scoop of wildberry lavender in a waffle cone, the ice cream itself is wonderful but the cone is aggressively buttery which rather messes up the flavor balance. Overall I definitely recommend but be aware it's a little pricy for ice cream! 8.5/10 if I came back I'd definitely get a regular cone next time.

The equations of Jeni's: * Start with a small, well-lit, clean store. * Add a number of handcrafted, intriguingly unique flavors. * Subtract the hassle of figuring out which flavors are dairy-free or otherwise altered from the standard ice cream. * Subtract the fact that ice cream is repeated in FOUR different cases - but not perfectly repeated, there are a couple of changes from case to case. Really confusing. * Add friendly service that patiently explains what you might have on hand. * Add storemade waffle cones (worth the price, nice and fresh and crisp) * Add giant portions - I got two scoops in my cone and I feel like it was 3 scoops' worth of ice cream in the end. Flavors are named for what they are. Hot Toddy texture looked thrown off by the whiskey so I went for... was it brambleberry? A little lacking in berry but clearly handmade... and was it brown butter almond? because the pecan is dairy free? but this one was a little odd in texture with the crumble in it. Overall, Jeni's is an invite to explore and see which flavors strike you, except your favorite flavor is not going to have the amount of dairy you seek, and then confusion... but then ice cream. In the end, ice cream cures all.

I've tried Jeni's pints from grocery stores several times now and I looovee their ice cream so when I came to visit D.C., I knew that I had to visit their storefront! It's in a fairly busy area so street parking wasn't very convenient here. They have 2 levels, downstairs where you order with a few counter seatings by the window and upstairs which has several tables. The staff was very nice! There were about 3 staff members and 1 cashier when we went so each of them were helping customers which sped up the line. When I came, it was still fairly empty but then it got super packed with a line out the door by the time I left. I'm pretty indecisive so I asked to sample several flavors and the staff was very friendly so he wasn't bothered by it. Their flavors are unique and there's a good assortment of them! I ended up getting 3 scoops - peaches and cream, salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks, and Texas sheet cake. They were all delicious, super creamy and had plenty of toppings in each of them. If I had a Jeni's storefront near me, I'd probably be going every day.

I love Jeni's. This Jeni's is conveniently located. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.I was really excited about trying their advertised sweet potato seasonal flavor--but it was sold out! (That's the only reason why my review is 4 stars instead of 5!) But despite that, they had some new choices...which is one of the best parts about Jeni's. I love Jeni's! This is one of my go-to ice cream places in DC. Always delicious and there are so many great flavors. This location has a lot of seating upstairs but there can be a long line on the weekends or a hot day. A little on the pricier side but not too bad. I think I would have given this spot 5 stars if I had chosen the right flavors, but I ended up panic-choosing which never ends up well for me haha. I had this spot noted as one I wanted to try after hearing some great things about it, so I was super happy to see that I was near it one day. There was quite a long line but it moved relatively quickly, and we were helped soon. They have all their flavors listed on the menu on the wall, but one thing to note is that the staff member who serves you will be from one of the few "sides." Because of this, I only saw the flavors in the case in front of us and thought that these were the only ones available that day. I didn't realize that the other sides had more flavors that were listed on the menu. I wasn't sure what to get, so just ended up choosing the gooey butter cake and darkest chocolate. I'm a huge chocolate fan, so this one was a safe option. It had a nice texture, really creamy, and a perfect chocolate flavor. The gooey butter cake, however, wasn't for me. I can definitely see how people would enjoy it but I didn't realize it was a cream cheese base and I'm just not a person who likes that. I ended up having to give it to someone else. The waffle cone piece it came with was also really good though! Overall, definitely some high quality ice cream. I would certainly come back to try more of the flavors that I hopefully enjoy more, but I can tell the quality is there!

This place has all kinds of interesting and unique looking flavors, but I just wanted the most simple flavors they had. I ordered a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of vanilla. Sometimes it just works out better when you keep things simple, right? Well, I'm glad I did because the chocolate was the best chocolate ice cream that I ever had. No exaggeration. When I return to DC, I would be more than happy to come back for a scoop of chocolate ice cream! Another perk to this place was the pleasant smell of freshly made waffle cones.

Amazing amazing ice cream. I moved from Chicago and I was so glad to see that DC has Jeni's! All of their flavors are amazing, but I got the trio or darkest chocolate, salted peanut butter with chocolate flecks, and honey vanilla bean. You can try samples as well and I tried the everything but the bagel. It surprisingly worked and was such a unique flavor. Literally tasted like Trader Joe's everything but the bagel. Their customer service is also unmatched, and all the of the employees are so happy and excited that it is infectious.

Genuinely the best ice cream I've ever had - the ooey gooey butter cake I'm a waffle cone, omg I'm drooling! I was sad they don't do milkshakes, but I got this on a recommendation and it didn't disappoint! I cannot wait to go back! There was a long line but it was worth the wait!!!

Jenni's really made my birthday special. I went with the Everything Bagel and Gooey Butter Cake on a waffle cone really hit the fucking spot. The 4 people working on May 28, 2023 were friendly and kind and I hope they get a promotion, whether at this job or in life! Was having a rough bday but Jeni and her crew made it a bit brighter. I'm usually not a huge fan of ice cream (is that embarrassing to admit?) but I love Jeni's. Never had a bad flavor and I'm always down to try something new, whereas I typically stick to vanilla everywhere else. Most recent trip I tried the Lemon Berry Parfait, which was the perfect blend of fruity, tart flavor with a distinct creamy taste. I also love the Brambleberry Crisp. Be warned: there is always a line out the door, and sometimes down the block. This place gives Van Leeuwin a run for their money - I'll withhold judgement until I can try their new DC locations. In the meantime, Jeni's reigns supreme.

In no way am I a sweets person, but the ice cream at this place was FABULOUS!!! Here are the deets: Pros: --they use reusable sample spoons (great for the environment!) --plenty of room to sit inside. There is also an enclosed sitting area upstairs --restrooms are nice and clean --the staff is friendly and helpful --lots of interesting and non-traditional flavors --they also have sherbert --they use recyclable bowls Cons: --it is a bit pricey, but worth it for a treat every once in a while. --there isn't much street parking Overall: I would absolutely recommend and visit again.

TLDR: Exciting yet balanced flavors and dreamy textures makes this the best ice cream I've ever had. Wow. This was, without a doubt, the best American ice cream I've ever had. That's coming from someone who eats ice cream almost every day (I know it's a terrible habit but it's my guilty pleasure). The flavors were exciting, making me feel like I was trying something new, which doesn't happen often in the ice cream world. Yet, they felt so carefully crafted. Nothing was too in-your-face weird and the sweetness was perfect. Even flavors that seemed like they might be too sweet, managed to balance with sour or savoriness. The ice cream itself is wonderfully creamy. Even my wife, who doesn't prefer American ice cream, was in love. To top it all off, the waffle bowl was fresh, crisp and slightly salty, complementing it all instead of adding more sugar. I could not recommend Jeni's more!

You can't go wrong with Jeni's ice cream. I never realized how popular and busy this place is on the weekend! The line was very long but definitely worth the wait. I really liked how friendly the staff was. I liked how you can try out different flavors before choosing, especially since there are so many flavors to choose from! I ended up with scoops of Texan sheet cake, Sweet Cream Biscuits & Peach Jam, and Brown Butter Almond Brittle. The combination sounds really wild but I really enjoyed each flavor!
