Houston Restaurants Seriously Step Up Sanitization as Coronavirus Fears Empty Dining Rooms - Eater Houston

"Some restaurants have taken less effective, and more inflammatory, measures to combat the spread of coronavirus. According to Houstonia, Houston-born chain Jenni’s Noodle House has announced via social media that anyone 'coughing or sneezing' at any of its locations will be asked to leave." - Amy McCarthy

A very cute and quaint family owned restaurant. It was opened during the snow storm and served us some nice warm food! I got the Thai tea, curry, and disco dumplings and it was to die for! I have never been here before until today - but I will definitely come back! The hospitality and warmth that is felt from the family was unbeatable.

The service was nice, I believe our waiter’s name was Mena (blonde woman). She was very sweet, attentive, and fun! ❤️ We had high expectations for the food as it was owned by a Vietnamese family, however our expectations were not met but I think some of these flaws can be fixed. I ordered the “Lemongrass beef” and my friend ordered the “Super pork” (and beef). I found that the lemongrass beef bowl did not have lemongrass flavor at all. I also found that the fish sauce was lacking in flavor and all of the cucumbers and lettuce in my bowl were extremely bitter. I think the fish sauce could have used more sugar to it (I am unsure if any sugar was used at all as it was that bland). As for the super pork bowl, it lacked flavor. The beef and pork was tough, stringy, and very dry. The rice was very soggy. I was not aware that the beef was an extra $3- otherwise I would have not gotten it. Especially since it was very dry. Overall, both of these bowls were lacking in flavor, the protein was dry, and the greens were all bitter. I have a feeling that they use the same protein for both the non-broth foods and broth foods- but this doesn’t work out for the dish for non broth foods because it’s dry. We were both not able to finish our food. We hope that these changes are able to be made as we have a lot of hope for this restaurant !

Best Vietnamese food in town! Love their beef pho and chicken curry.

My recent visit to Jenni's Noodle House left me with mixed feelings. The restaurant is decent, but there are a few areas that could use some improvement. Firstly, their menu prices need to be updated online to avoid any surprises for customers. It's important to have accurate pricing information. I also noticed that some of the young cashiers could benefit from better training to ensure a smoother and more efficient customer experience. As for the food, it was okay but didn't quite live up to my expectations. It's possible that there's room for improvement in the quality and flavor of the dishes. In summary, Jenni's Noodle House has potential, but there are some areas that require attention, including menu pricing and staff training. While the food was decent, there's room for improvement to make it a more memorable dining experience.

Google
This place had delicious food and good service but now has become over priced and underserved! Charging 30 bucks a plate yet still no where to sit the restaurant and no parking outside. They’re literally still have a hole in the wall and keep charging folks CRAZY prices. 🎤 drop after today not again!

Google
I was impressed with the service I got when I visited this place. The lady in charge was so kind and helpful, tried to make us feel so welcomed and taken care of. She was smiling all the time which I loved. Food was ok, we had Pho and curry dishes, but because of how good this lady made us feel we will definetely go back to this place. The place was nice, not that big but cozy.

Google
I ordered this through Uber Eats, but other than that, how it arrived is terrible, the presentation is very salty and the chicken has a terrible texture, it doesn't smell appetizing, I ordered it because I'm sick and what's not better than soup? But this soup is terrible. I don't recommend it.

Yelp
Employee on the phone was extremely rude. I called to ask if they were open during Storm Enzo and he hung up on me. I was in the middle of asking a question and was interrupted by the ending of the phone call on his end. Food was mediocre, nothing special. No need to eat here but I guess it helps out in a pinch.

Yelp
Long story short. The food here is inedible. Thai tea: incredibly over-sweetened Dumplings: tasted frozen and over steamed to mush Spring rolls: tiny sad shrimp. No bean sprouts. Dipping sauce tasted like pure soy sauce Stir me crazy noodles: rice noodles were tough and undercooked. Beef dry and stringy. A couple of pea shoots and bamboo shoots. Sauce tasted like pure soy sauce. I didn't even bother asking for something else just so I could get out of there. Service was fine. At some point I overheard from that the owner spends most of their time in Austin. It shows. I recommend having a long discussion with whoever is preparing the food in the kitchen.

Yelp
Great service. Great Food. The place was empty and I was worried that it wouldn't be good. I was so wrong. We were honored to get served by one of the owners. I think his name was Scott. He was so cool, pleasant, and hospitable. His place was clean and with just a few tables. They had a little gift shop. The best thing was the food. It was delicious. I highly recommend this place in Houston because it was just great all around.

Yelp
I normally don't dine in because I don't live close by but I always order to go ... hands down The Best Chicken Pho, Shrimp spring rolls and tres leches in town!

Yelp

Yelp
This is mostly a takeout place. It's very basic inside and has not been remodeled for a very long time. The girl who works at the counter was absolutely charming and a plus to business. However, the food was expensive for what you got. I got some vegetables and with three shrimp added it was $16. It had a little bit of broccoli and lots of lettuce and some thinly size, carrots, and mushrooms. The ingredients were fresh, but they charged way too much for mostly lettuce salad with three medium size shrimp. In Houston, which is becoming a major food hub, competition is stiffed, and there is much better choices. I will not return there. I would recommend LAU Vietnamese restaurant, which is just down the street for much better quality and ingredients for the same price

Yelp
I'm confused by the good reviews. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. There are so many better restaurants in Houston that deserve your money. I didn't have high expectations but was at least hoping for a satisfying weekend cheat meal. My fiancé and I have been caring for a newborn and eating microwaveable dinners all week long. A chance to pig out on some good take-out, right? Wrong. The food was so disappointing. I ordered the Mighty Wonton and it was probably the worst wonton soup I've ever had. The container was full of lettuce... who puts lettuce in soup??? I maneuvered around the soggy and slimy bits of lettuce to get to the wontons, which were rubbery and flavorless. It didn't get any better -- the pork strips were also rubbery and the noodles were tough and stringy. I also tried the Disco Dumplings and they were only a little bit better. A few had a strip of extra dough on top, as if they weren't properly removed from the original dough mold or something. Not much flavor, mushy filling. I was excited to see that they served boba however was quickly disappointed. Sadly, it was the worst boba tea I've ever had. The taro milk tea tasted super watered down, like taro water. The tapioca kept getting stuck in the straw. It's hard to believe that they think it's okay to sell such inferior food products. Giving a star for really friendly customer service -- the dude who took our phone order was very nice.

Yelp
This is 10$ worth of fried rice!? This is zero bites taken. The 20th location is less of a rip off. Yall should be ashamed.
google avatar

Alexis P.

Yelp
I never disappointed of the food, environment and the service in this particular location. Ask Roger (Rogelio) for recommendations and he will happily answer it. Try the limeade! The food is super delicious... I specially like their crispy tofu dishes.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
How can this place have such a low rating? I love the food here. So delicious and satisfying, and the service is unparalleled. I come here everytime I'm in town. I got the art car curry which packs a punch. I didn't want tofu so they substituted broccoli for me ^.^ no rice and substituted soba noodles. I absolutely love the dream rolls, ginger chicken, and Scotty steak salad. They have the BEST peanut sauce! I could literally drink a liter of that goodness!

Timothy R.

Yelp
Super chill laid back Noodle House here in Montrose, food was BURSTING with flavor!! Perfect crispy fried dumplings and savory chicken rice noodles. Great portions and delicious freshly made in house limeade! Thank you Scott for giving me a warming experience, can't wait to bring my friends (:

Yelp
Please don't waste your money. Taste terrible, vegges are so old. I order flat noodles. It is not as the same as the picture. Different noodle.
google avatar

Mitchelle'l S.

Yelp
I've had the Vegan Miso Ramen twice, and it was excellent both times.. However, this time it was EXTREMELY watered down, had no flavor, ands was definitely missing the miso.. This was a waste of money.. Had I eaten at the establishment instead of Door Dashing this order, I absolutely would've sent it back..
google avatar

Tony B.

Yelp
Portion size went dow. Price went up. Quality isn't as good. Used to love this place, not anymore. Sad
google avatar

Christa A.

Yelp
Ordered ginger chicken for $15 and it barely had any noodles. For this price and lack of food - absolutely not. I took it to go and noticed they charged a $0.75 to-go fee once I got home. Are you serious? Never going back here, totally not worth it.

Irene G.

Yelp
the worst noodles restaurant ive ever tried. They're spoon are not clean. they're wanton soup is just like water added with salt. yucky taste chicken curry and tofu noodles the worst taste of noodles ive ever tried. I ended up throwing the whole orders worth of $60 Don't waste your money to this fucking dirty restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
VEGAN OPTIONS that do not suck. This place is awesome if you're vegan. There are quite. Few options on the menu for vegans and additionally they have vegan desserts. Jenni is a real person btw, I verified myself. She cooks in the back. Definitely will be back as long as I'm still vegan. Thanks Jenni!
google avatar

Kiran A.

Yelp
Since when is this considered a dumpling?! Used to be proper dumplings, I haven't been in ages and surprised they changed the shape, texture to look like this. All five of them did, and they didn't taste great.
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
Nice ambition for a tiny place in a strop mall. Boba is soft and tres leches cake was gooey and good. It's so good that they guarantee it in fact! The dumplings and egg rolls are divine.
google avatar

Becca S.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from Jenni's Noodle House, and this is the $9 Vietnamese eggrolls. Five tiny eggrolls with two measly pieces of lettuce, not enough for all of them, and barely any carrots or filling. For the cost of their food, this is ridiculous.

Lara N.

Yelp
my daughter & I order 2 different types of noodle soup and the noodles were the same in both bowls: soggy and bad this place put the shame in Vietnamese. I don't know how this place survive among a slew of good Viet restaurants in Houston
google avatar

Becky S.

Yelp
Don't bother. I ordered shrimp spring rolls, Edamome, and pork dumplings. Received 5 pork egg rolls and the dumplings, e Edamame. Told the expediter, crickets. The waitress came, crickets. Sauces were like water, order was wrong. 4 customers in the place. REALLY?
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Love Jenni's! The art car curry and dream rolls are my favorite dishes. The gluten free jalapeño ginger soy is so amazing. I could drink an entire cup of it! It's so addicting! I love how vegan and gluten free friendly Jenni's is! The only thing that would make this place better is that on third-party services such as Uber Eats and DoorDash that you could specify wanting a gluten-free substitution instead of calling the restaurant after placing an order.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
Jenni's has good food, a laid-back vibe, and a nice clean store but the prices have gotten very high - like $20 per entre. In my opinion, that's way too expensive for the type of food they serve. If you go into the Shepherd location, parking is a disaster but if you use a food delivery service, wait times are considerably longer than average. This place used to be a staple of mine but for the prices now, there are more convenient options.

Pablo o.

Yelp
had Art Car Curry, sub chicken for tofu. it was bad....chicken tasted stale and tough, the rice appeared to be mushy and not fresh. small portion. I had not been in a year or more and now I will not return. food has deteriorated imho.
google avatar

Yelp
Jennis is perfect for those hungover Sunday when your glued to the couch and your fighting for your life. The pho not only melts away your scaries but it also sooths the covid cough away from the vape you have been Ihauling. Also the DOCTOR PEPPER SLAPS. Like slaps just trust me on that one.

Montana M.

Yelp
I came here solo for a quick bite to go, ordered the taro tea and disco dumplings (2) ct. I waited about 20 minutes for 2 inch dumplings legit they were so tiny and cold. The taro tea was watery and had at least 1700g of sugar in it. I was very confused and disappointed. Will not be back

Andi M.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE Jenni's Noodle House and I've been going here religiously for years. I was driving back into Houston tonight and saw on google maps that the location on Shepherd was open until 10 so I placed my order around 8:45 and showed up at 9:25 and the whole restaurant was dark. I walked in and was met with some irritation by the hosts and was confused because the staff has ALWAYS been so friendly. I asked if they closed at 10 (because that's what google maps had said) and they informed me they closed at 9:00. I'm very grateful that they waited for me to get there to get my food and feel terrible I made them wait so long past closing!! So for the staff at this location I want to give a formal thanks and apology for showing up so late!

Dani V.

Yelp
Literally a hair in my soup. Spoke to the manager and the guy was nothing but rude and said that no one in the back has dark hair. I show up to the place and bring the soup and see that the people in the back who are in the kitchen all have black hair? He didn't offer to refund me or fix the issue. This place is ridiculous and not worth it at all.

Yelp
I was starving one night this past week and i was all BBQ-ed out from gallivanting around Houston. I chose Jenni's since i was craving some noods. I used Uber eats to order which was super easy and my food was delivered still piping hot (the best). I went with the peanut udon noodles with crispy tofu and the veggie disco dumplings. the peanut noodles weren't super peanut-y but they were amazing. Its more of a sesame oil and ginger and scallion type noodle, but i inhaled it. If you are craving sesame noodles this will not cut it, but i would still order them again in a heartbeat. The disco dumplings were BOGO and i was still taking a meat break so i went with veggie. these were some of the best friend dumplings i've had! i cannot wait to try the pork and chicken. disco dumplings are awesome. This is a solid place and i can't wait to try more things off their menu!
google avatar

Mallory W.

Yelp
Food is unfortunately sub par. The inside is kind of weird too. Didn't meet my expectations.

Molly D.

Yelp
This is a literal hole in the wall with trash service and food. Highly over priced with crazy small portions. They should literally be embarrassed. I ordered a noodle dish and I kid you not, there were literally 7 noodles and the remainder was lettuce. I tried to stir the dish thinking there would be noodles on the bottom and there was just more lettuce! When I showed the Hispanic man working he literally said that's how many are supposed to come in the dish and there's nothing he can do for me. I literally handed him the dish back and left. He was quite rude as well. Hell nah!
google avatar

Jason N.

Yelp
Tried this hidden gem out. The Udon Know Me Chicken was good. Like the sauce. Get the chili oil to add some heat.
google avatar

Raeesa H.

Yelp
We got food delivered from Jenni's noodle house via Uber Eats. The food was packaged well, they were missing utensils and napkins, however. I got the spicy shrimp soup ( you can choose the level of spicyness and I went for the highest, kill me now). It was SPICY! I can handle spice and I didn't think it would be that spicy but my lips were burning the entire time I was drinking the soup. The flavor was amazing and the soup had a tamarind base and came with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and four giant pieces of shrimp along with a cup of sticky rice. I would order this again but less spicy next time. I thoroughly enjoyed this soup even though it took me an hour to finish it (reasonable as the cup of soup was about a liter and it was super spicy. I got the hubby the steak salad which he enjoyed but thought was bland. And my cousin got the salt and pepper shrimp with rice. We also got steamed edemame but clearly the soup was the star of the show.
google avatar

Ashlee V.

Yelp
Meh. The food was okay. Not bad but nothing to rave about. Add in the ridiculously high prices for what they are serving and giving this restaurant 3 stars is generous.
google avatar

Jahaida B.

Yelp
Not my favorite, " needs flavor " to expensive for soup and checked in in case i get stomachache. I feel meat taste like if it is not fresh. Made my friend taste it. She said the same. Was going to have surgery " so I have not eaten. .
google avatar

Ally H.

Yelp
Very nice and attentive staff. Everything we tried was very good. The names of the dishes are cute. The servings are a good size as well. Definitely will try again.
google avatar

Anna T.

Yelp
Firstly the staff here are great, super helpful and welcoming. The place is spotless which is always a plus. Tip for you: do not come here if you're craving greasy Chinese food (like I was). I really wanted a sweet and garlicky and spicy kick in the taste buds but that's not the kind of food they have here. I would classify this as healthy Asian fusion. I got rice noodles with chicken in a light peanut sauce and also a chicken, pork and shrimp fried rice to go. The rice was ok, not super salty or oily but I was not a big fan of the bamboo shoots in the fries rice (gave it a kinda fermented flavor.) They have plenty of vegetarian options as well. The sauces are light and you can get an extra side of veggies for just $3. If you're on the healthier, lighter side of life I think their dishes would appeal to you more. Not strong flavors and I do find it bland for what I was in the mood for but it could be perfect for someone who has sensitive taste buds. I also saw they have a bubble tea happy hour (I think from 2-6$ where u get $1 off. How cool is that!
google avatar

Symone B.

Yelp
I love noodles. My husband and I have been curious about this place so I decided to give them a try, and....... I was disappointed. I got the egg rolls... which were standard and I ordered the stir me crazy with chicken at a level 2 spice level. The stir me crazy drove me sane. The flavor left much to be desired. I felt like I was looking for something more in those noodles and I couldn't figure out what it was. I wish the sauce had more body, kept stirring my noodles trying to get the flavors but they seemed really muted. The spice level was on point though. Like, I thought I liked it hot, I actually coughed. I never cough. The spice was so on point I sneezed all the way down Alabama. A level 2 doesn't seem like much, but it is. It's a burning spice that will get the tip of your tongue and lips really good. My sinuses feel free. For that I thank you Jenni's Noodle house!!!! I can breathe. So I'd give this meal a 3. It was okay. If it wasn't spicy, the stars might be lower. Side note:::: I overheard the curry being ordered several times so I think if I decided to try Jenni again I will go for the curry.
google avatar

Trish C.

Yelp
I don't know what happened to this place. It used to be great. The last 3 times we went the food kind of sucked. VermicellI that was 90% lettuce. Soups that taste like mop water. Just awful. We paid $40 for a bowl of vermicelli and a bowl of soup. Both were terrible. Insane. The staff is nice and the place is VERY clean. Other than that, not much to celebrate.
google avatar

Jonathan N.

Yelp
Total rip off. I spent $23 on curry soup and high fructose syrup. Save your $$$ and make the drive to Chinatown. The staff are friendly.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
I ordered the flat noodles and they came out under cooked and tough and soooo bland! It was as though they didn't even put sauce in the dish. Also flat noodles are supposed to be soft! Then another time I ordered the Udon know me noodles and it tasted delicious. Then I came back the following week to order the same thing, and the noodles tasted bland! And like they forgot the sauce. I got tired of the inconsistent flavor of the dishes. So I will not be coming back.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
The Stir Me Crazy Pork was delicious, but it was a small portion for $15. I love their "teaser" options as someone who likes to try a bit of everything.
google avatar

Jenni C.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Jenni's Noodle House but it definitely won't be my last. Thanks to the other review that shared Jenni's love of spicy food, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the Combo Pho. The broth was incredibly flavorful and tasty. When I ordered, I shared that it was my first time there and I wanted it as spicy as they could make it. They offered to bring the level up sauce on the side rather than add it directly to the pho so I could spice it up to my preference. When it came out, I tasted it to be sure where it was at before adding anything. They hadn't put any spice in it yet, so I was able to truly appreciate the savory broth. I added a full container of level sauce, a half container of bean paste, and a dash of soy sauce. It was starting to get warmer. I requested another container of level sauce - their homemade chili sauce -- and a bit of sriracha. Perfect! The meatballs and beef were plentiful without being too much. The noodles were delectable and the heat was just right. SOOOO GOOD. I will definitely be back. Oh and all this for under $15!
google avatar

Keisha R.

Yelp
I've had about 5 dishes here and they're consistently good. The fried rice, curry, udon noodle bowl, shrimp noodle bowl are all good. The fresh spring rolls are good too. Staff is always friendly and courteous. I will continue to come back. Try it!
google avatar

Lucy T.

Yelp
Let's start with parking, the place is located in a very narrow strip shared with a few other businesses. So, parking could be limited if it's busy. Next, when you go in, the register is towards the back right. Grab a menu, decide what you want, order it, and help yourself to drinks and seating. So, I tried this place out for the first time since the gf likes their chicken soup here. I ordered their inferno chicken curry, she order the snow pea chicken with a side of chicken broth, and a seaweed salad and egg rolls to share. The food to me was okay. It did not wow me. The curry was a bit too watery for me. It was spicy which was good but a little bland. I wasn't impressed with the curry. The seaweed salad is mainly cucumber, which I knew from yelpers but I wanted some anyways. I mean you can't really mess it but but I wished it had more flavor to it. I tasted the snow pea chicken, it was okay. The egg rolls were average. Overall the staff were friendly, service was fast, and food was okay, not to die for. Maybe you can find a good dish here but so far, this place isn't a must go back for me. But after saying all that, who knows, maybe you will love this place!!
google avatar

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
YUM! I might like this location better than the Post Oak location. It's a lot smaller but the food tastes better IMO. I got the Lemongrass Chicken Vermicelli Bowl and it was delicious!!! I would have liked a little more chicken and less lettuce but it was still good! I also had very little vermicelli so will definitely be ordering extra next time. The parking is kind of a challenge if you turn in the wrong way..it's a small lot with awkward spots that are super close to each other and it's usually filled because it shares a lot with other businesses. We found a sponsor pretty easily but I can imagine it could get pretty full.

Susan D.

Yelp
I've been coming to Jennis since they were on 45 south. It was great when they moved to the heights where I live. The last couple of visits have not been great. Tonight I got the pork vermicelli bowl. They don't have lemongrass slices of pork. It's dried out tiny pieces of pork. Sad to say as close as they are I won't use them as a fall back for dinner anymore. Terrible experience tonight. Great staff though.

Yelp
I Wanted to check this place out because I've been driving by it for the last couple of months. I walked in to place my order and the guy that was at the counter taking orders had a puppy in his hand. Dude..... you work at a restaurant your puppy belongs at home!
