The Ultimate Guide to Dining and Drinking in Fredericksburg, Texas | Eater Austin

"Family-owned orchard and agritourism spot where visitors can pick seasonal fruits—strawberries, blackberries, peaches, and pumpkins—participate in live-music events and a five-acre fall corn maze, and dine at an on-site Tex‑Mex barbecue restaurant serving margaritas, nachos, and highly recommended brisket tacos; note that peach-picking often requires a $5 reservation ticket." - Brittany Britto Garley

Super cute farm with great peaches and really good peach ice cream. We ate peach ice cream at 3-4 places over the weekend and this was by far the best. A little disappointed that we weren’t able to do the pick your own option but strawberry season had just ended and there were no options for peach picking the Saturday that we went out. Picked up some peaches to take home with us though and they are divine!

Google
Peach Picking Season! if you on back roads and not the main road be sure to not take the private entrance in the back(if you turn on a dirt road you are not in the right spot). Everyone was very friendly and timely. Cute items and produce around the shop I ended up getting a shirt too :) can’t wait for blackberries and strawberries soon

Jenschke Orchards is a must-visit gem in Fredericksburg, especially during peach season. The experience of picking your own fresh, sun-ripened peaches straight from the tree is both relaxing and rewarding. The orchards are beautifully maintained, with plenty of trees loaded with sweet, juicy fruit. The staff is incredibly welcoming and helpful, offering tips on the best peaches to pick and sharing the orchard’s history. It’s a peaceful and family-friendly spot, perfect for a summer outing with kids or a quiet morning stroll with scenic Hill Country views. In addition to peach picking, their farm store offers a great selection of homemade jams, baked goods, and local treats that are hard to resist. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Fredericksburg, Jenschke Orchards delivers an authentic Texas Hill Country experience that combines nature, flavor, and hospitality. Don’t forget your camera—the orchard is picture-perfect!

Google
We come down every summer just to get peaches from Jenschke and are never disappointed! The peaches are so juicy and sweet—I get goosebumps every time I try them, they are THAT good. We haven’t been able to pick peaches in a few years but that doesn’t stop us from coming down to grab the ones in the store. Peach cobbler is a must try also and we never leave without that as well! Definitely give the winery a try too—we had a glass of the peach wine and it was fantastic. See y’all next summer!

We visited Jenschke Orchards with the intention of picking fresh peaches, but it turned out that the season hadn’t quite begun. Peach picking wasn’t available during our visit, and while it’s unclear whether picking is restricted only early in the season or throughout, the peaches being sold were also still a bit underripe—firmer and less juicy than what we remembered from last year’s harvest. Still, the visit wasn’t without highlights. Our kids enjoyed picking strawberries and blackberries, which were available and in good condition. The farm itself is incredibly charming, with a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere that makes for a relaxing family outing. There’s also wine tasting on-site, and a BBQ area for those looking to make a full day of it. While we missed out on the peaches this time, we’re already planning to return during peak peach season. It’s a place with a lot of potential when the timing is right, and a lovely spot to enjoy some countryside charm.

Google
We went here on July 5 to get some peaches and ice cream. Overall both were average - ice cream did not have much peach flavor and the peaches did not taste great either (note: I am writing this after taking them home and letting them ripen - still a meh taste we tried a 1/16 bushel) The shop had a good selection of stuff. We did not try to wine room nor go into the farm so I don’t have feedback on that There was decent outdoor area

Google
Absolutely fantastic experience!! The nicest people on the planet!! We had a blast picking peaches, strawberries, and blackberries. The staff made it such an enjoyable experience. Thank you so much...

Google
We had the best time picking strawberries and blackberries, the fields are dog friendly and our mini dachshund had fun walking around. The berries were delicious and even though I felt like we picked waaay too much we finished them all 😅

Yelp
Been here like 6 times now - I always come looking for peach cobbler and ice cream, and they always have it. I honestly refuse to get my Fredericksburg peach cobbler anywhere else at this point. This last time I came they only had cinnamon ice cream; it was good but my favorite to date is still their lavender ice cream it is just the LOVELIEST thing on their delicious cobbler! I don't know what they put in it to make it so good, but it's a winner. Interestingly this last time I went a couple weeks ago, I found they had opened their own wine tasting room - that was new. It was cute in there, they had some couches, a Christmas tree/holiday decor, and a flat screen with the football game on. The ambiance was very chill~ Thanks for always being around Jenschke - please keep the cobbler and lavender ice cream stocked!

Yelp
This is one of my absolute favorite places to visit year round. We come here to pick strawberries, blackberry, wild flowers, the maze and this year was our first time picking peaches! We love all the family activities they offer me and my son to make memories. I always recommend them for any friends visiting Fredericksburg.

Yelp
Big sign outside saying "Peach Ice cream"...we were on the hunt for it!! I thought it would be handscooped, but it was just containers pre-packed in a cooler. They were not very peachy and a little icy. I ate the whole thing, but wouldn't repeat here.

Yelp
The PEACH COBBLER here. Y'all when I say run to get some dessert here, Run! Their peach cobbler came out so fresh and hot (and topped with some ice cream) and was some of the best peach cobbler I've had! It's a lot sweeter than typical peach cobbler though as a heads up(which I liked). Their peach ice cream was also a hit with our group and super tasty!! You can tell was super fresh. I love that you could also buy fresh peaches there and they had super cute souvenirs to get as well! Souvenirs were more boutique prices but prices for the desserts were pretty reasonable! This was a perfect stop right across from some good Tex Mex as well to end our trip. They have a lot of outdoor seating to sit at as well. Highly recommend and would definitely stop back in if in town again!

Yelp
They have the best peach ice cream and peach cobbler here. In addition, they have the cutest merchandise to pick from. There's a fun table with swings, as chairs, outside. That is so fun!
google avatar

Yelp
Peach ice cream was on our mind and this was just the spot to get a tiny treat. They had other flavors as well. Super cool place- the store had all the pickles, salad as, dips, lotions, honey- etc. I hit the jackpot to gather up some treats for my family. They have another little store on the grounds but we did not have time to check it out- we were on our way back to Dallas. Nice spot for all the things- clean bathrooms- a little walk outside of the store but all good!

Yelp
Terrible customer service and extremely rude employees. We bought tickets for u-pick privileges. ($5 per person) Online it appears you are purchasing a 30-minute window. We arrived 5 minutes into our window. Employee told us we missed the shuttle. I tried to kindly explain the confusion created by their own online system (see photo). I wasn't asking for a refund or exception, just trying to explain why we thought we had more time. This woman started literally screaming at me and followed me out to the parking lot saying she "doesn't get paid enough to deal with people like me." She had to be restrained by another employer. Completely inappropriate and unhinged.

Yelp
We were here for strawberry picking and it was such a fun experience! Highly recommend it for any reason that you're in Fredricksburg!

Yelp
This is a great family farm :) we loved the wildflowers! Gorgeous and flourishing even in 90 degree heat. Their peach cobbler and salsas were good too. Worth the stop!

Nick ..

Yelp
Was disappointed when we got home and many of the peaches in the container were green and unripe. They have signs all over saying don't touch the peaches so it's hard to know if the prepackage container you are buying has ripe peaches. My recommendation is avoid the prepackaged peaches in the store and only buy from the u pick em so you know what you're getting. Or go elsewhere.

Yelp
My daughters favorite food just happens to be Strawberries and I noticed a friend on Facebook picking Strawberries with their family here and knew instantly we totally had to go. I was a blown away by how fast and easy it is to get in the fields and check out with your berries. I cant say enough good things, take your family here pick some fruit and have a great time. I certainly cant wait to go back.

Yelp
Yes, went for pumpkin patch it was quite fun. I did notice they had already pulled quite a few pumpkins I'm assuming for commercial sale so the ones we had available weren't as bountiful. However, it was still a bunch of fun. I would like to see more signage for instruction on what we can pick and can't. For example supposedly we could pick apples but, we didn't see any instructions to do so. Ideally we could just ask the staff. But, we had already enough fun with pumpkins we didn't bother with it. Yelp
If you are wanting an authentic pumpkin patch then Jenschke Orchards is your place. I take my daughter every year to get her pumpkin there.

Stephanie G.

Yelp
We did the Pumpkin picking, corn maze, fall festival last week as a group with kids from 2-18 and everyone really had a blast. It felt like a fall party. Such a nice friendly staff. I can't say enough nice things about the place. Would highly recommend it.

Stacy O.

Yelp
Our homeschool group went for a field trip and it was the best experience! The staff were kind and easy to work with. The kids did not want to leave. The corn pool and the bouncy pillow were the favorites. The teens had fun finding their way through the maze. We had such a great time and we just want to say "Thank You Jenschke Orchards!!"

Yelp
This particular review is for the new LeRoys Tex-Mex restaurant here at the orchard. We loved it!! Its a cute little space with very friendly service from Hallie and good food and wine. We only had the chip and dip trio but based on how good all three dips are I assume the other items are just as good. We were told the daily special (carnitas enchiladas) was really good. We also had peach cobbler OF COURSE. I had a glass of house Sauvignon Blanc and hubby had a local Altstadt brew. Both great. Definitely come in and try them out. It's become a local favorite so that's saying a lot.

Yelp
Jenschke Orchards was the perfect family outing! I heard about this place from a friend and saw some pictures of her pictures. I knew immediately I needed to take my little one. She loves strawberries and that is what is currently in season to pick. As the seasons change the crop to pick does as well. It's free to pick and then you pay for what you pick by the pound. The strawberries seemed inexpensive and we filled up 2 small boxes. My child loved doing this so much. It was worth every minute and we've decided as a family we are definitely coming back. When we checked out they had fresh strawberry cobbler and strawberry and vanilla ice cream! It was a must have for us. So we sat outside on the bench and consumed ever bit - the strawberry cobbler topped with strawberry ice cream was my favorite! If you are looking for a nice, quick, fun family outing for everyone this is the spot!
google avatar

Chelsea B.

Yelp
Cute place for families to visit! They had a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, corn maze and other fun activities. They also have a BBQ place and little store with a bunch of peach goodies and other homemade items. Highly recommend their peach cider and ice cream!

Christy D.

Yelp
I visited with my daughter and grandson last week. The employee named Tony was so amazing and helpful! He is great with kids and made sure that we knew about all of the activities to do. Thank you Tony!!! Pumpkins, peach ice cream and a crazy fun corn pit.

Yelp
Awesome dog-friendly and family-friendly activity. We have been both peach-picking (now requires reservations) and strawberry-picking here. The fruit is delicious, and both experiences were tons of fun, though it was a pretty hot and sunny day when we picked strawberries this year. It is still Texas, so don't forget to wear sunscreen and perhaps a hat! FYI dogs are allowed in the picking areas, but not on the tractor nor inside the store. Luckily there is shade and picnic tables in front of the store where dogs can rest and the people can enjoy the peach ice cream. Yum!

Yelp
Brought our toddler, had a blast picking blackberries, and then enjoyed some ice cream. Very family-friendly!

Yelp
On my way back from Fredericksburg we saw many signs for farms selling peaches and a wuick research showed that this is a great location to buy farm fresh peaches. Pulling in Jenschke, they have a decent sized parking and the interiors were very clean. I loved that they were encouraging social distancing inside the store with clear markings for patrons to stand about 6 ft apart. They have fresh peaches, tomatoes, preserves, honey and even candles (??) I couldn't buy peaches because they were selling them in bulk. Not sure how many lbs, but I cannot possibly eat 10 peaches. Would have loved to try their peaches if they sold in smaller bulk. I did get their peach ice cream and it was delicious! They couldn't accommodate us for peach picking and asked us to make reservations online before coming in.

Reuben R.

Yelp
We called one day early to buy peaches in bulk and we were told arrive at 9 am to insure getting any peaches but we could buy as much as available. The next day we showed up at 9am and we were told they were going to limit what we bought, this was totally different from our conversation on the phone. We were not happy but decided to try picking blackberries and strawberries. This turned out also to be not as good. They had plenty of blackberries but they were sour. The strawberry patches were over picked and chocked with weeds. Most were rotting or very small. This place uses the low supply of peaches to draw customers to buy other items at the store and/or gets you to pick fruit. We priced many of the items they had and all were over priced including the peaches. Classic tourist trap. Highly recommend to stay away from this bait and switch scam artist.
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
We stopped by this weekend to pick strawberries. Great place, I'm sure much more exciting later in the year when all their activities are up and in full swing.
google avatar

Eduardo L.

Yelp
Best peach cobbler ever! Peach ice cream is delish. Make reservations to pick peaches. Bring cash. Lots of goodies.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Dropped by here to pick peaches and were the very last group out. They were very kind and took us all out and gave us ample time to roam through the trees to gather what we could in the few rows that the specified. Downside of going late is that most of the peaches are picked through leaving mostly smaller peaches with a lot of black spots (fungal infection). While the black spots are pretty yucky looking - these are superficial, so you can still peel them and eat the peaches (still sweet and tasty). We managed to gather a small bundle of pretty good peaches (small but crazy sweet). It's fun, but rather hot in the summer. They also do have peaches and a few other fruits and veggies in the shop if you'd prefer not to go all the way out and pick yourself.
google avatar

Yelp
This was the best Ice cream I've had in my life.... idk how they did that but dang that's good !!! Came to pick fruits but got here too late. Ice cream made up for it and their peach cider is 5 stars as well. Will definitely be back

Yelp
This place is awesome. Honestly, you'll like everything about this place!! The family that runs the place are really nice and friendly. They alternate the fruits that are pick your own depending on the season. So far, we have done pick your own peaches in 2018, and fairly recently, went to do some pick your own strawberries. Let me tell you, our family had an awesome experience both times we went. Strawberries were much juicer than store bought and pretty good size. The peaches, well, I'm lost for words. I'm 99% sure the peaches we picked were the best tasting we have ever had. Waaaaaay better than the store, and you can eat peaches while you pick them! The prices are usually close to what they're going for at the store, maybe just a bit higher. But it's worth it to get this awesome experience. If you have kids, they'll definitely enjoy the place and have fun.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome place to pick seasonal fruits! It's really easy to schedule a time to come in. Just go on their website and reserve a spot. No need for an entry fee; you just go, pick your fruit for an unlimited time and pay for your fruit. Their fields are also dog friendly, however, the dog is not allowed to get on the tractor due to safety concerns. Luckily, the tractor driver was kind enough to go at a pace where I could keep up as I walked behind it with my dog. Another thing you have to try is their cobbler and ice cream. In true Fredericksburg fashion, I got the peach ice cream and cobbler and ate them together. It was so delicious. The peach ice cream was light in peach flavor but the ice cream itself was so creamy, it perfectly matched the cobbler, which also had a subtle peach flavor paired with hints of cinnamon. I greatly enjoyed my experience here and can't wait to return for more cobbler, ice cream and fruits!

Yelp
I love this place. Went there 2 years ago with my dad and will go this year when my mom and dad will visit SA..... must go to place for family fun and kids summer holidays. Try not to go on a very hot day because then you won't enjoy it so much due to heat.
google avatar

Hugo V.

Yelp
Spectacular place! We got to pick our own strawberries and they were delicious, not like the store bought ones. We also got peach cobbler jar, and a few other things. All were delicious. Employees were very nice and courteous. Happy to support places like this one.
google avatar

Kinsley B.

Yelp
The first time we went we picked peaches. It was very fun for our family but there was one thing I wasn't very happy about... There wasn't a lot of good peaches for us to pick and wasn't much peaches left on the trees after we picked them. Things to know: They allow dogs just not inside, They sell more then just peaches, and be careful how much peaches you pick because they are around $3 a pound.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Looks like based off our last visit, Jenschke is now the go to orchard for pick your own around Fredericksburg. On this trip everyone was very helpful and attentive. We had an outstanding time! Highly recommend it if you are in the area.
google avatar

Tuan L.

Yelp
If you do anything when you stop here, at minimum you must get their peach ice cream. While the peach flavor is subtle the real star is the cream itself. It's unapologetically rich and creamy. The taste of the cream my wife uttered is like it came straight from the cow. You can taste the pureness of the cows milk.
google avatar

Fiorela M.

Yelp
Glad to be out of the house and visiting a pumpkin patch with my toddler. Best soft serve ice creams! My one complaint is that no employee was wearing masks for COVID pandemic.
google avatar

Yelp
What a find! An over enthusiasm for The Peaches song when I was younger and a great fondness for all sorts of jam has resulted in, perhaps, an over romanticised idea of what peach picking should be - But these guys delivered for sure! We pulled off the road and were greeted by cheerful children who handed us boxes and whistled for the tractor pulled hayride to drive us from car park to the orchards - where we were given clear instructions and let loose. It was day two of the memorial day weekend and the pickings weren't as abundant as I'm sure they would have been had we made it down the day before - but adults and six year olds alike had a very merry time filling our box and eating (and eating, and eating..!) An aesthetically beautiful set up, great staff and a bonus hay ride - would have been even more perfect with riper fruit and somewhere to wash off the sticky fingers afterwards but you can't have everything. A very happy, delicious, child friendly addition to our wine tasting / Fredericksburg day.

Yelp
The folks at Jenschke Orchards are running a wonderful operation, and our family had such a fun time picking peaches here yesterday morning. One of us used to go apple picking as a kid in the Northeast every fall, so this place hits all of those nostalgia notes. We knew it was going to be hot--boy was it HOT as hell--so we got there right when they opened at 10:00 am. It was already getting busy--definitely recommend getting there as early as possible. First of all, you get to ride out to the orchard in a tractor! Our daughter was beside herself with excitement, so if you're going with a toddler, extra fun bonus. While we were cordoned off to a certain section for picking, there were still a ton of peaches for everybody and it never felt overly crowded. We only managed to stay out there for 30-45 minutes since it was getting close to 100 degrees, but all of us had such a blast picking (and sampling) the fruit. Peaches are ripe and succulent! We ended up getting almost 30 lbs (!) of peaches, and at $2.50/pound, it came out to more than we were expecting to pay, but we were more than happy to support this local business. Oh, and everybody we encountered was lovely and friendly. We even bought our kiddo a t-shirt since we were in such a peachy spirit. One final note: we *highly* recommend trying their soft serve ice cream. We got the strawberry/peach swirl--made with their own fruit, natch--and it was completely natural-tasting, not too sweet, and perfect as a cool snack after coming in from the heat. All in all, we don't have enough nice things to say about Jenschke, and are already looking forward to next spring when we can return for strawberries.
google avatar

Crystal K.

Yelp
Amazing strawberries! Great prices and super nice family that runs it. Worth your drive! Try the strawberry ice cream!!!
google avatar

Nina H.

Yelp
Such a fun experience. We came out on a Sunday morning to pick our own peaches. A tractor drives you to the row of peaches being picked and back when you are done. Peaches were $2.50 a pound, Junegold were what we picked in mid-May but the varietal changes from time to time. They say eat as many free peaches as you want while picking, just don't waste peaches. Very friendly place, lots of parking, good old fashioned family fun. Also would be a fun place to stop on a date to gather some peaches for a picnic, etc. We will definitely be back. Fun to be nearby this Texas Hill country gem.
google avatar

Anne D.

Yelp
I watched as this farm let a women wearing her mask around her neck, go inside and shop for produce! She leaned over every produce, touched several things she did not buy, things that other people will eat, all without her mask on her face and the staff said nothing! What good is an order if businesses do not abide?!

Yelp
Disappointed this year. We happened by this orchard last year and stopped in. We had the best time. We were able to walk around the pumpkin patch, cut our own pumpkins, play in the corn pit.....we probably spent a couple hours here. This year, we drove from New Braunfels especially to come here. We were charged $10 per person just to drive through the gate. The pumpkin patch is completely gone. There is a corn maze that has rows planted so far apart, you can see almost completely through to the other side. You are forced to park on the other side of the corn maze and then walk a ridiculously far distance to the corn pit. No way anyone could access it if they had any kind of difficulty walking. The corn pit is fun but not worth $10. And I think it is silly to make all adults pay when they aren't participating. I feel like they are getting greedy. We won't be back and I wouldn't recommend to anyone anymore.

Natalie B.

Yelp
I was so horrified by the way we were just treated at Jenschke Orchards. I called yesterday and was told by a really friendly gentleman that they did not have any peaches at the orchard but they did have blackberries and strawberries. We drove over two hours and there was an incredibly rude and patronizing woman who told us they had run out of blackberries at noon and we should have come in the morning (we were not told this yesterday). She spoke through her teeth and had the most condescending tone I have heard in ages. Shame on her, please get some better customer service next time and let us down gently.
google avatar

Jeff Z.

Yelp
Very nice family orchard. I went in asking for the seconds to make wine with and the owner was nice enough to give me what he had for nothing. Just asked that I come back sometime. I bought $20 of #1s on the spot and they are great as well.
google avatar

Hannah A.

Yelp
We went out to pick our own peaches and blackberries today, and the Jenschke family made it a fun, comfortable, inviting experience. You'll get a warm welcome and feel like family from the moment you arrive. The stand has a very fresh selection if you don't have time to pick your own or if the orchards are closed. Peaches and blackberries were in beautiful shape, and the family is eager to share their knowledge of the best picking spots. Call or email ahead to inquire about pick-your-own dates; they vary based on the crop. You'll get a quick response from one of the Jenschke family members. Overall, it's a charming Hill Country experience. Well-worth the trip!

Patricia C.

Yelp
Selection was okay. Could be because we came in the afternoon. Workers not very friendly.
google avatar

Carolyn N.

Yelp
I believe this may be one of a few remaining u-pick orchards along this 290 corridor, many are getting squeezed out by wine. They also sell picked fruit (our choice) and the first crop of freestones had just arrived (6.19.14). My 1/16th bushel was delicious and not enough! The woman that waited on us gave us a sample and said the rains made for a great peach crop, I knew I should have gone one size larger :)

M H.

Yelp
Wow absolutely the best peaches I've had in my life. So flavorful and juicy! We did pick-your-own today and the type was red globe. Reasonable per pound price and all you can eat as you're out in the orchard picking - amazing! The store had peach cider, which we never had before, peach ice cream, peach cobbler, and a bunch of other canned peach goods including candles and hand soap. Very well run establishment and the only pick-your-own peach orchard I was able to find online in the area. We will definitely come again - something we heard many families exclaim as they reveled in the rows and rows of peach trees.
