Jerry's Roast Pork - Review - Financial District - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Philly-style sandwiches have landed in Embarcadero Center, thanks to the team behind nearbyRosalind Bakery. Of course there are garlic roast pork hoagies, but this casual takeout spot also has Roman-style pizzas and seasonally changing salads." - Julia Chen

Rosalind Bakery Gets Into the Roast Pork Sandwich Business in San Francisco with Jerry’s Roast Pork | Eater SF

"East Coast transplants and sandwich fans, take note: a garlic roast pork–focused sandwich shop from Rosalind Bakery founder Matthew Kosoy is landing at the Embarcadero. Inspired by Philadelphia stalwarts like John’s Roast Pork, Tommy Dinic’s, and Tony Luke’s, the signature sandwich is a three-day affair—brined on day one, roasted on day two, then cured overnight so the fat congeals before being sliced thin and simmered in a house jus to build deep flavor. Kosoy bakes the semolina- and sesame-laced hoagie rolls in-house, modeled after the now-closed Sarcone’s Deli, and stacks the sandwich with broccoli pesto, “crumbly, super sharp” provolone, and a broccoli raab/broccolini combo roasted in garlic and olive oil with a touch of red pepper—very South Philly-Italian, where bitter, spicy greens meet salty-sweet pork and funky cheese. The opening menu stays tight with just two sandwiches (including a highly seasonal vegetarian option), a seasonal salad, and three to four Roman- and grandma-style pizzas—think soppressata with hot honey, a tomato pie, and an Embarcadero Special tied to that week’s Ferry Building farmers market—plus pastries, bread, and drip coffee. Named for Kosoy’s grandfather and aiming to help revive downtown as a sandwich destination, the shop opens Tuesdays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m." - Dianne de Guzman

Amazing! A truly great Philly-style roast pork sandwich that stands up to the best of them. An incredibly welcome addition to Downtown and SF!

Yelp
I love when a place has a very narrow specialty, so it can focus and do it well. Not huge portions, but quite delicious. Also very random assortment of pizza and apparently an obligatory salad. Though only the items with roast pork were notable to me. Garlic Roast Pork Sandwich: I've read their pork take 3 days to make and I can totally tell a lot of care went into it. It's so much better than typical pulled pork since it's got almost roast beef like texture, but the taste is all pork goodness and nice marinade. I was skeptical about the broccolini, but it actually worked very well against the intense pork and crispy sesame bread. Great texture with everything together. Also nice cheese. EMP Special Slice: It was like the roast pork sandwich, but on pizza. Nice slices of roast pork. Gooey sliced provolone cheese. Some high personality greens to counter the richness. Plus a layer of tomato sauce, not found on the sandwich. Definitely a fan. Tomato Slice: Kinda basic. Borderline feels like focaccia. It's alright, but do yourself a favor and spend a few bucks more on topping. Grandma Slice: After having the EMP Special, this also felt kinda basic. I think they used provolone, so it tasted different than what I was expecting. It was lacking the magic ingredient: roast pork! Soppressata Slice: Ok, this had pork, but not the special kind made in-house. It was pepperoni adjacent, but not a good as the classic pepperoni.

Yelp
I arrived at 1:25pm, and just in time, it turns out: most of their items weren't available due to running out of ingredients for the day, and shortly after I got my order, I saw the staff place a "sold out" sign on the door. Staff looked minimal (two employees) but were friendly and really pleasant. The pork here was great! I got the salad, and it was a good portion with plenty of pork (maybe top 40% of the bowl was just pork!) and not an excessive amount of dressing (the bottom of the bowl only had a small amount of liquid at the bottom when I finished). The pork was impressive, with a good mix of sweet and savory and good texture. The salad veggies were fresh and crisp. Mixed greens, sliced bell peppers, all made for a great salad. The store itself is pretty large and a lot of standing area with a few chairs/tables. There's plenty more chairs and tables to eat at littered around Embarcadero Center if the shop is filled. There are disposable fork/knives and napkins available at the counter. I'm excited to try their sandwiches (what I originally wanted to get). They also have pizza options too. I'll have to keep in mind that I have to go earlier, before they run out of ingredients.

Yelp
Pros: pork is very good, service is solid, price reasonable Cons: not a great selection (two types of sandwich, a few pizza options, and a salad are all that's on the menu), but most of all, the sandwich wasn't that great (bread was just ok, not enough pork, and did not like the toppings of broccolini and garlic, and didn't even really like the cheese much) Maybe that's how traditional roast pork sandwiches are made, but I'd love an option to put toppings like lettuce, tomato, etc. on it, or at least be told what's on it and be able to opt out of that. I don't mind broccoli or huge chunks of garlic -- just not on my sandwich. I would go back and give it another shot though, especially if there was some flexibility on toppings, and I'll update my review accordingly.

Yelp
So glad to see a new lunch option open in the area. Jerry's Roast Pork is located at the former Andersen Bakery on the Lobby Level (technically the second floor) of Two Embarcadero Center, at the top of the escalator. Today, 11/04/2025, is opening day. I get there at 12:40pm and as a I'm approaching the place, I can see it's empty except for two employees behind the counter. I reach the door and greeted with the sign: "Sold out. We will be back tomorrow." They just opened at 11am,Perhaps they underestimated how well business would be on Day 1. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to try something of theirs. Currently, their operating hours are Tuesday-Thursday from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

Yelp
The bad reviews on here are from morons, hateful losers and/or uncultured, non-sandwich savvy heathens. Roast pork is one of the great sandwiches of America (better than cheesesteaks, which I also love) and this a great rendition - clearly done with care and talent. Bread holds up well, pork is perfect, cheese compliments nicely and one of the better broccoli rabe's I've had. Easily best I've had on the west coast and it's hard to find in the city. And it's only $14.

Yelp
The sandwich was absolutely delicious and the people who work there were lovely. Can't beat that. Look forward to them sticking around for a long time.

Yelp
Great concept, went a week after initial launch. Ordered two roast pork sandwiches only because they were out of everything else we wanted to try and it was only 11:30 AM ‍. Wish the sandwiches were hotter, cheese wasn't melted and pork needed more juice. The Embarcadero 2 place doesn't sell drinks. Not the easiest place to find, didn't know they also have a place in Embarcadero 4.

Yelp
I was excited to try the pork sandwich but couldn't taste the pork because of all the extreme garlic broccoli rabe. I like the idea of having some actual vegetable with my sandwich but it completely overwhelmed the poor pork. It could have been anything in there with the rabe.

Yelp
Wanted to check this place out for awhile so I had a chance. Was on the neighborhood and went around once they opened at 11.Order then waited 15-20 min for my sandwich while everyone else who came after me got theirs and when I asked what's going on they said they never got my order which I placed at front counter. Was hardly anyone in there and I wasted half my lunch waiting for my food.Sandwich was good but not waiting 15-20 min good.

Yelp
It's a take on Tommy Dinic's in Philly, Slow Roasted Pork with Garic Broccoli Rabe and Provolone Cheese. It's a Really Good Sandwich , I'm glad the Sandwich made it to California. Dinic's was Crowned Best Sandwich in America 2013.. by Travel Channel.
