The Jersey Shore’s Best Ice Cream Spots | Eater Philly

"With its flagship location on the mainland in Northfield and its newest spot in Brigantine, ice cream aficionados have multiple locations to choose from with Jersey Cow Ice Cream. Try the fresh blueberry ice cream on a waffle cone or opt for a cup of the mint Oreo, the latter of which offers a vegan option for non-dairy dessert seekers." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Google
The best Ice Cream I have ever had in my life. It’s popular so it gets full quickly. They only have a small parking lot.

Dave Holleran

Google
Yes, yes and absolutely yes!!! My grown son invited me along with him and my DIL! They have been raving about it but ya know how that goes. So glad I went finally. I got “The Barn” and let me tell you something, only had to order the child size and it was huge!! If you want to experience the most delicious, creamy but hard scoop ice cream like way back when….. go.go.go. Well go, you are still reading this so enjoy😊

Google
LOVE the ice cream here! Both the soft serve and hard ice cream are delicious. Just a PSA, the “kiddie” size is NOT kiddie size at all 😂 you definitely get your money’s worth. They also sell pints to take home (for both hard ice cream and soft serve). Service is friendly too!

Google
The homemade ice cream is awesome and the servers friendly. A little hard to read the digital menus. QR codes on napkin dispensers would have made it easier had we noticed them before we ordered.

Five of us went here on a Tuesday night. It wasn’t crowded, and the parking lot seemed pretty empty. I got an affogato (double espressos with a scoop of vanilla ice cream), and I was very impressed! The espresso and ice cream were perfectly balanced—not too sweet or bitter. My partner got monster cookies with Ube ice cream combined. SO delicious! I was especially impressed with their Ube ice cream. Having traveled in Asia and being familiar with Ube flavor, I can confidently say they nailed it. Two others in my family got lavender and pistachio ice cream (not pictured). I tasted both, and they were amazing! The flavors were rich and authentic. Overall, the food here is incredibly fresh and authentic. Highly recommend! The only downside was that the fire in the front weren’t heated enough to keep us warm tonight.

Google
Always a great experience here with so many flavors to choose from! Vegan, gluten free, they have it all. Never a bad experience here, well worth the stop when you’re in the area!

Google
super super yummy and huge portions, got the blueberry lavender and coffee ice cream, workers were super nice!

Osama Malik

Google
Good ice cream and lots of different flavours on the menu. I had two scoops of black sesame and pumpkin cheesecake. The quantities are pretty massive so I would recommend ordering less than you think you want. They’re also very efficient, especially when a large line forms.

Yelp
This iCE CREAM is super creamy and immediately became very popular with the locals & many summer visitors headed to Absecon Island. On ANY night you will find it filled with lines of excited folks waiting to order their favorite cone. I loved mine!! But for my fear of derailing my diet I'd be there every day! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Can't review the one in Brigantine since it isn't up yet but had to post! Some of the most legit ice cream and fairly priced down at Brigantine shore. It was $6.88 for 2 scoops and you see the portion of those scoops are solid. No inside area to sit down but the service was very smooth between efficiency and friendliness. Will be back next time down!

Yelp
Great location and definitely stands out. I had the pleasure in meeting the Owners. I was invited to meet up with them at their first location. I was pleasantly surprised by the design of Jersey Cow. It has a great atmosphere and the vibes are welcoming. I was fascinated. Walked up the counter and the friendly staff were eager to greet me. The ice cream looked amazing and people were truly marveling over their treat. Ice cream was delicious! Definitely recommend a visit.

Yelp
Good and fresh ice cream at a reasonable price! Customer service is always quick and they have nice clean outdoor seating.

Yelp
No matter what your preference is for flavors, Jersey cow has them ALL & seasonal ones too! Whether you're in the mood for Hard Ice Cream, Soft Serve, Water Ice, or an amazing Waffle or Brownie Sundae, your sweet tooth will not be disappointed! I love that it's all homemade & they are open everyday from 12-10pm year round (if you can handle cold treats in the winter like me). During the summer, they'll have extended hours & longer lines but it goes by very quickly. Now if only they'll offer online ordering & delivery, because I'm an addict of this place! The Pandan Waffle Sundae with Oreo Cookies & Cream & Ube ice cream is an absolute favorite of mine. I also love the Barn, Rocky Road, & their Cookie Butter which is a seasonal flavor. Go check em out if you haven't yet! They also offer ice cream cakes & pies which I haven't tried yet, but definitely will soon.

Yelp
Imaginative and delicious flavors! Our favorite local ice cream spot. They do incredible ice cream and soft serve. Have been back more times than I care to admit. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Yum!!! First timers, had a hard time choosing. Finally decided to get 2 different scoops in a cup, pistachio and the honey lavender for me. My kid had a scoop of cookie butter & honey lavender. Great unique flavors. Tasted fresh, homemade. My only suggestion would be, OFFER AN ICE CREAM FLIGHT! I'd pay $10-$12 for 4 small scoops, in separate plastic cups...

Yelp
Cough, sneezing and scooping don't mix. EWWWW. Won't be back. Maybe employees should be taught better hygiene protocols.
google avatar

Andrea O.

Yelp
The line was long on 4th of July, but moved quickly! I tested the black sesame seed ice, it was delicious! We had the chocolate banana, maple walnut, and butter pecan. Creamy, excellent ice cream!
google avatar

Tulshi P.

Yelp
Loved the sea salt caramel pretzel flavor. They make all of their flavors to perfection. I sampled the honey lavender but decided to pass on it for the sea salt caramel pretzel. The quantity is great for the price. They have some outdoor seating and they are open in the winter as well which is nice to have. I will definitely be back in the spring and summer to try more flavors!
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
I like the Cow because it's open and brightly light. The servers have a good system to keep the lines moving. They have vegan and gluten free and a good selection of flavors both hard and soft served. The only thing I can suggest is they have to get Peanut Brittle Crunch Coat Ice Cream Topping. It's my favorite part of the ice cream cone experience.
google avatar

Artemis K.

Yelp
I love going to this place , the first time I went was great and very friendly ! I always get a sundae and it taste great! And I love going at night time and eating over there
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
One of the best ice cream I had in the shore. This place is open in the middle of the winter and there is a reason!
google avatar

Rogina D.

Yelp
Jersey Cow is one of the best icecream spots in south jersey. The service is pretty fast. There's seating areas outside but I would just eat my icecream in the car lol I love how they have so many options for ice cream. My favorite is the ube ice cream!
google avatar

Susan E.

Yelp
Always open, clean, friendly & homemade, fresh ingredients. Expect to pay ten dollars for an ice cream, but also expect to not even be able to finish half of it. They are generous with their portions and their ice cream is the best in the area. Recommend this ice cream parlor for EHT/ Northfield- You wont be disappointed.

Yelp
I will definitely be returning. I ordered soft serve cone with sprinkles a kiddie size and it was more than enough. (I still didn't eat it all) My boyfriend ordered the brownie with salted caramel pretzel ice cream. He really enjoyed that combination. To me the brownie was very rich but good. I don't need a lot of sweets, so a bite was just enough for me. And yes, the brownie is served warm. He also ordered a scoop of mango, which was really delightful. The mango still had that authentic sherbet taste while still giving a sweet creamy soft-serve feel. Great fast service! Affordable prices! Great ice cream! The place was chill plenty of seating although we sat in the car and ate ours.place was packed and too many bugs.

Yelp
When I saw the overdesigned trendy facade I was not feeling this place, but after driving some 23min out of my way (each way, so 46min total), and craving mint chip ice cream, I went for it. Withstanding a very long line, we got three ice cream cups, in an intense chocolate flavor, a chocolate banana and my mint chip. All were delicious! Extremely good ice cream. Worth the detour and the wait. I'm picky about mint chip but chocolate/mint ratio was spot on, creamy ice cream but not too gooey-creamy, just exactly as desired! Other flavors were reported hits as well. When your child falls silent from eating, you know it's delicious!

Yelp
We came at 3pm on a Saturday and despite it being cold - the place was hopping. Two windows were open but there was one main line. The place was super clean and staff was very friendly. When exiting - you can leave from behind the building. Everyone in our party of 5 enjoyed there ice cream. We all agreed the "hard ice cream" was better than the soft serve - flavor wise. Two ppl could not get the paper off there cones. Portion to price is fair. We will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Great ice cream. An absolute no brainer to stop here. Some of the best I've had in NJ.
google avatar

Yelp
Jersey Cow is my favorite ice cream place in the area. Their homemade ice cream is amazing and the people that work there are always so nice. I ordered an ice cream pie for my mom's birthday and it came out amazing!! Soo good!!!! For the pie, we got Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel, but their Cookie Butter flavor is my personal favorite!
google avatar

Emily C.

Yelp
I probably venture here once a week. It's always crowded but they make sure the line moves quickly. Everyone I've encountered that works here is so nice and helpful! Their homemade ice cream is delicious and it's good portions for the price.

Yelp
My husband recently came across Jersey Cow Ice Cream and insisted we stop by on a cold March day. I expected the stand to be empty, but it was packed - I can't even image what a summer day would look like here. I opted for a chocolate milkshake, it was thick and delicious. Looking for to stopping by again to try out some of their more unique flavors.

Yelp
My wife and I got sick after eating their Mounds flavor ice cream. I posted a review and they responded to contact them via email. I did send an email and have yet to hear back from them. Needless to say, I won't be going back and will not contact them again for any reason.
google avatar

Yelp
They launched Ube flavored ice cream on rotation Jan 2023 and definitely get yourself a pint. A scoop here and a scoop there just isn't enough!! Need the whole pint!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! Compared to other local joints Jersey Cow sets the bar too high for them. So many delicious flavors and the service is friendly. A must try if you're in the area!! You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by with a craving for something sweet. So glad we did stop by. Family had the black sesame, flutternutter, the barn, pistachio, cookie monster, mint choclate chip, honey lavender, and chocolate ice creams. Soooo good. Will definitely stop by again the next time we're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious homemade ice cream with unique flavors. I was excited to try the black sesame and it was very good. Very cute decor and nice that they had a heater in the center. It's winter and will only get colder...I think more beaters would be a good idea. I'm from California and was cold waiting in the line to order.
google avatar

Madison L.

Yelp
My new favorite ice cream spot. The ice cream is all homemade and super creamy. They have extremely unique flavors and you can sample if you can't decide. My favorites are the barn, the peanut butter and jelly, and nutty nana. There's always a line at night but it typically moves very quick. The prices are reasonable and the service is great.

Joann H.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this ice cream is amazing a little pricey but it is so worth it. The service is spot on.. mIt gets very busy but it's worth the wait it won't disappoint
google avatar

Jenna D.

Yelp
I get the same thing everytime I go: tiger blood gelati. It's a coconut/watermelon water ice with vanilla ice cream, stacked. The prices are a little expensive. For example, they charge an extra dollar for a squirt of whipped cream. If you get a large milkshake, I believe it is, you can choose from soft or hard ice cream but if you choose hard ice cream, a vanilla shake ends up costing you $10!! Parking lot is small and a little chaotic. I always park across the street on the side of Tilton Market. Every time I go, there's one long line but that's because it's so good! They normally have three windows open so the line moves a lot faster than you would think. Great place to take your family and friends and hang out for a little bit. Busy traffic in the Main Street there and a little loud, but still fun overall.
google avatar

Noah M.

Yelp
I thought my ex-wife Cherie was the only Jersey Cow, but this one won't leave you for a sign twirler from Hoboken. When I took a spoonful of that luxurious salted caramel pretzel ice cream, I understood exactly what all the hype was about. I felt joy for the first time since my firstborn son was sucked into a pipe on a pacific oil rig operated by Chevron. They said he didn't suffer. There is no delta p at Jersey Cow. 5 stars

Kimberly N.

Yelp
i love this place! reasonable prices, open year round, and the ice cream itself is fantastic. my family has ordered ice cream cakes from here a few times and have never been disappointed!! they're amazing! my ONE, HUGE, GLARING COMPLAINT: they have only TWO vegan flavors that don't rotate: Salted Caramel and Blueberry Lavender. neither of these flavors make for a decent sundae or milkshake or are even very crowded pleasing imo???? I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around why they don't offer the classics as permanent flavors. At the very least you should have vanilla and chocolate (then i could order a banana split!! or a classic sundae!). and please I am begging you to make the vegan mint a permanent flavor!! Even when it is a "rotating" flavor it sells out!!! the number of times i have come in for a vegan mint milkshake and been turned away because the mint was sold out is frankly comical at this point. Please Jersey Cow, I want to give you my money for vegan mint ice cream!!
google avatar

Eli X.

Yelp
Place was super cute, super packed during the weekends, but service was still great. Vegan ice cream flavors were much appreciated. The lavender blue berry is not too heavy on the blueberry which was amazing. The vegan oreos ice cream was also super good. Textures were really creamy for being vegan!

Yelp
In my opinion jersey cow has the best ice cream in the area! I am an absolute seen for brownie sundaes and there's is the freaking best I can only eat about half of it and then I freeze it and eat it sometime later and it's still so good! I love their soft serve, the hard ice cream and their water ice is freaking phenomenal.
google avatar

Pimwee S.

Yelp
Flavorful ice cream and nice portion. I had blueberry lavender and Ube flavors which were both amazing. Very nice service.

Robert B.

Yelp
gave two stars because the peoples I was with liked it. I did not ordered a banana milkshake it was horrible didn't taste anything like banana couldn't even stomach it. the prices were outrageous I will never go there again they should be ashamed
google avatar

Gail F.

Yelp
Was hoping for better quality ice cream but once we tasted it, it wasn't what we had hoped for. Much better quality around the area. No tables were available around the side of the building (it was crowded) so we tried to sit on the ledge near the fountain but the speaker was blasting Pitbull which wasn't the more relaxed, ice-cream eating experience we are used to. Customer service was sub-par as well. No eye contact whatsoever and not one smile. Oh well. One and done.
google avatar

Ngoc T.

Yelp
Great ice cream. I love how there's flavors you can't find elsewhere like ube, black sesame, and matcha. Pandan waffle adds a nice touch and flavorful to the ice cream. Service does take a while when it is packed and there are lines. Ambiance is chill, there's music outside when you are waiting in line.
google avatar

Emily K.

Yelp
Huge fan of jersey cow, their quality and prices are excellent The only complaint myself and my family has is there NEEDS to be more vanilla extract in the soft serve or other vanilla based ice creams. There is no robust vanilla flavor, it's a bit bland. Would be a game changer if this was improved!
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Their ice cream is too sweet! Where is the old fashioned ice cream that won't give me diabetes? I just want creamy ice CREAM. Not super sweet ice cream that I can't finish because I've been overloaded with sugar. It's not even satisfying. I thought at first: Wow. A2 milk. Jersey cows. Must be rich creamy milk. Nope. Just good looking modern place with sugary milk and flavors, and probably fillers like xanthan gum or guar gum or gellan gum etc. to make up for the lack of cream, which is what makes iced CREAM thick. Because the fat solidifies and whips into thick, creamy ice cream. Please change your recipe and use cream, not skim milk and pure sugar and fillers. Please. Or I will open up my own shop.
google avatar

Mel S.

Yelp
Best (non dairy) ice cream ever. Very fun flavors. Definitely a treat worth driving out for! The parking lot is small, so you may have to find a street parking spot on a hot, busy day.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place. Great unique flavors never the same boring thing something for everyone. They also have vegan and very special things. This is very amazing for people that can't have ice cream traditionally. They also take credit cards. I find so many ice cream parlors that don't take credit cards are just like trying to hide some thing. These people are very honest, friendly and warm and really care about the customers. They are open even in the winter which is very nice they have heaters outside and it is just a beautiful, well-kept place. It is always very clean and the staff is very friendly and the ice cream is so good and the portions are so large their waffle Sunday is no way that one person can eat that alone at least I couldn't and it was so delicious. I can't say enough about this place how good it is. It's a Moscow you have to try it. Enjoy.
google avatar

Salvator M.

Yelp
The ice cream at jersey cow is like no other. The prices aren't bad for the portions they give you also. Hands down the best ice cream around.
google avatar

Robin Y.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try jersey cow and finally stopped there tonight after a movie. It was around 10pm and the place was packed with a line onto the sidewalk, but it moved pretty quickly. The prices are definitely higher than I expected, but the portions are also huge. I got the blueberry cheesecake flavor and it was very good- lots of blueberries, perfect creamy texture, with a more subtle cheesecake flavor. You can tell it's homemade. The person with me got a kiddie size soft serve waffle cone and it was a lot so I can't imagine what the large looks like. They have some unique rotating flavors that seem really interesting so I'm looking forward to trying something new next time. They also have gluten free and vegan options beyond the expected basic flavors. The building itself is an old school ice cream stand but with a modern style. There's a fountain out front that you can sit around, benches on the side, and they have music playing which I think makes it a fun atmosphere for late night ice cream.
google avatar

Jill G.

Yelp
AMAZING ICE CREAM!!! Homemade and a decent price. I would rather spend the extra money in gas to drive just to go to Jersey Cow!
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
Simply the best ice cream that I've ever had! All home made with a variety of unique flavors. Don't let the lines fool you, they move quickly. You won't believe that the vegan options are vegan!
google avatar

Mia B.

Yelp
The service here is lovely, the workers are very polite and professional. I asked my two year old cousin what she wanted to order and she said "blue!". The woman who was taking our order suggested the cookie monster ice cream which was vanilla ice cream dyed blue. I felt that was very kind and a great suggestion! The ice cream here is very delicious and there is a wide variety of flavors. The atmosphere of this ice cream place is very modern and clean. There are heaters around the building which is perfect for an outside ice cream shop in the winter. Unfortunately there is no inside seating so be aware of that when you come here. I have been here twice so far and I will definitely be back!

Aida B.

Yelp
I had a vanilla milkshake and it was the smoothest and richest shake I've ever had!! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Bryn W.

Yelp
First off, ice cream is very good. I bought 4 pints of Cookie Monster, Chocolate, Butter Pecan, and Mint Chocolate Chip. Everyone in my family really liked every flavor. My issue was the service. I was there around 3 pm on Tuesday. I was 4th in line and there were two people working. Working is probably an overstatement as one was serving and the other chatting with friends at the side door. I waited 10-15 minutes to finally get service, meanwhile 4 more people had arrived after me and were also waiting. The second employee finally decided to chip in and open a second window. I'm a very patient person but this lack of service bugged me enough to come to Yelp to write about it. This was not a situation where the employees were overwhelmed, for if it were I would more than understand. This was both laziness and poor customer service and for a brand new establishment I was astonished how the second employee failed to act for so long. Customers behind me started some chatter about it as well. Ice cream - 4.8 stars. Service - 0 stars.
