I have a confession, despite the wide love for this restaurant, my visit last week is the first time I have ever gone. But not my first time at Jerusalem Market! I live very close to their original location out toward Sedgefield, and it's always a tasty place to stop in for fresh food. I also have no shortage of great middle eastern and Mediterranean type foods near me, so going all the way to downtown to eat just isn't something I need to do. That said, I was meeting my pop for lunch in downtown, and we both decided to give this place a shot.
It's a great cafe downtown with an excellent location, situated on Elm street with several other choices. The food is made fresh to order, so unless you order something served cold, just keep in mind there's a 15-20 minute cook. This is not something I mind of course. I ordered the Armenian wrap, which is beef tenderloin with provolone, baba ghanouj, yogurt sauce and spices in one of their flatbreads. Comes with Z'atar chips, and I added a small cup of hummus for an upcharge. Personally. I'd like to see hummus come with those chips as part of the price, but it wasn't too bad. For a downtown cafe serving high quality food, prices here are reasonable.
The flavor was definitely on point! Texture was excellent too, from the doughy pull of the flatbread, to the creamy sauce and baba. It was great. The Za'tar chips were crispy and spiced nicely. Dipping in the hummus, great combo. I had water to drink, but keep in mind all other beverages are bottled or canned. Dad got a nice fresh salad, chunks of feta and a chicken kabob and also enjoyed it.
Overall, excellent healthy option downtown, a very nice cafe run by friendly people.
